Security expert Bruce Schneier succinctly summed up the destruction of the American economy by the NSA’s surveillance yesterday:

Obama was the first president in a long, long time to cut back the budget of the ~Defense Industrial~ complex. His next step should be to completely disband the NSA because it is an evil old boy organization like all the rest of them rotten alphabet agencies.

A drop in the rise of the 'budget' isn't the same as a 'cut', and a temporary drop in funding isn't a 'cut', either.

Why do you keep making a false distinction between the MIC and the private tech sector? They are joined at the hip.
Moreover, what is not openly admitted is the primary reason companies like Cisco were given access to the Chinese market was so the Chinese could reverse engineer the technology themselves. Those days are numbered if not over. The Chinese now know how to build and code it all themselves.
And I'm sure the Chinese government is just dying to let Cisco install it's vision of an internet everywhere data collection system in Chinese home appliances. Don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
Now here is a big picture hint: Where do you think the bulk of Cisco's router factories are located and what is the nationality of all those workers?
The main thesis should be this: the only reason tech companies like Cisco and Google are allowed to invade our data privacy is they are an appendage of the US government. This is obviously not the case in China (they are not an appendage of the Chinese government, they are infiltrated by it). That is why Google is not in China and Cisco's sun is setting on the Chinese horizon.

The military industrial complex is following the pattern of the monetary system before it, that the powers of governments have been transferred to corporations. Since the residual degree to which there is still any democratic republic left in the USA is yet the biggest obstacle to a globally corporatized world, I think that these apparently backfiring out comes are not so much an accidental shooting in the foot, as a deliberate two for one gambit.
It will take quite a lot to destroy North Americans enough that they end up integrated into a globalized system on a par with Chinese, etc.. Making a profit from destroying democracy, and anything that might sustain any degree of democracy, appears to the ulterior goal, in order to create an overall system where the vast majority of people no longer have any power whatsoever left to control their fates. In my view, George Washington's well-researched articles tend to not present blatantly enough the degree to which there is probably malice aforethought regarding what is happening, rather than unintended consequences.

This is true. Silicon Valley is a corrupt hell hole. The whole venture capital, IPO and STanford buddies network with the govt is totally corrupt. They will also use the govt to harm foreign competitors including rigging court cases. The good news is Silicon Valley has shot themselves in the foot. They still love Obama in Silicon Valley and Redmond.
Companies will move some servers offshore if they can find reliable vendors who do not spy on them. There are very good programmers outside of the USA. SkyPe was done in various places in Europe including one of the Baltic countries - I think Latvia. Video games are done outside of the USA. Talent in the USA will be poached and leave California and Wash State. People will not trust American technolgy companies cause most of them love Obama and the corrupt Solicon Valley culture with MIC, Stanford, Berkley et al.
Google took over old Moffet Fields for their jets. They may have sicked the DOJ on MegaUp Load even though YouTube and Google steal all sorts of copyrighted content. They went after the guy who wrote PGP.
Oracle was started by See Eye Aye contract programmer Larry Ellison and you know who he wrote that for. They charge Uncle Sam insane amounts of money for their stuff.
All these companies feed at USA Inc. feeding trough and provide back doors and full access. In return they also get their stocks "pumped" by the markets and corrupt TV and the media.
We will see offshore hosting and data centers growing, better non-spy LINUX, possibly more private networks, hopefully secure hand held devices and more.
