the rich seldom need knee replacements, or back surgery, most of the costs of working class medicine is the nature of what working class people do to get by. the rich also have better food and are seldom obese, but if you burn 1000+ calories a day at the job, you need some way to replace that, along with alcohol to make the pain go away. (now you have meds which will do your liver much quicker) work will kill you as quickly as anything. my gfather was born in 1867, died 94 years later, and never had a job, just farming and ranching, never smoked or drank. at a time when health care was nonexistent. and always poor as dust. he went homesteading at age 65. i watch television and everyone lives in a city, why is that?

As I have said previously,  just because something has been inflated by a bubble, does not mean it is a bad idea. The corollary is, always tread carefully.

"In fact, Obamacare has so many systemic fatal flaws, inherent economic inefficiencies and pervasive procedural defects that the dangers have become quite evident, especially its implementation right in the midst of an intractable and deep recession.  It ever there was a time NOT to enact such an extremely unpopular law, this is it.  Therefore, many ask the question: Was this a planned social, economic and political cataclysm?"

I am truly amazed at the longevity of the elderly Chinese who basically rely primarily on herbal/dietary medicine and daily exercise. There is more than just a little to be said about this. Of course, our food industries are working very hard to change all of that.

We have the fattest poor population on earth. This does not mean they're well-nourished; it does mean that they are more susceptible to all of the conditions related to obesity. Type 2 Diabetes medication will be the driving force behind pharmecuticals along with the medications necessary to control other aspects of being obese. They are a veritable walking [for now] gold mine.

It is said "hard work never killed anybody". Not really true, maybe a little hard work never killed anybody, but chronic hard work, especially coupled with stress, that will kill everybody.

Oh the joy of raising children.  I know that some of you have been there and done that so you know what I am talking about.  We have an eight year old female(no problems) and an almost three year old son and does Mrs. M ever dote on him.   I just tried to play "zombies" with him and he got all scared and ran into his mother's crotch.  Mrs. M got all pissed at me because she said I was scaring him but I had not even touched him.

WTF?  Really?  Then she wonders why males are so destructive.  Does she ever mollycoddle our son and that is not a good thing.  He's male and so am I.  It is time for the father to take over in my opinion.  I play with my son all of the time and he likes to spend time with me and he is just fine usually as long as she is not around.  Males are males and that will never change.  Ever.

I am not the perfect father I guess.  It seems like mothers dote on their on their sons to me.  Mrs' M is extremely protective of our son.  Is this normal female behavior?  I think the kid needs to get his ass whooped within reason.  He needs to know who the boss is.  Am I wrong?

I was the hard ass of the household and Mr Miffed was the soft touch. Of course we had 2 girls so I wouldn't put up with ANY bullshit manipulation. I was tough but always fair. Once my eldest at 14 begged me to take her to San Diego to make a purchase I refused and told her I couldn't do it until the weekend. She flipped out and said she couldn't wait so long and if she got her own transportation could she go. I said that was acceptable to me. Two hours later my neighbor called me hysterically saying she just picked her up on the freeway hitch hiking and I had said it was ok. I learned to be a bit more careful after that. ;-)

My kids are 21 and 24 and very independent. I never coddled them and expected them to work hard, take initiative and do their best at any endeavor. When they were young,I gave them far more freedom then their peers because they showed me they could handle it. I was criticized by other parents for this many times for not keeping them "safe".

Though I didn't have a boy, I strongly feel it is right for you to encourage you little boy be such. I know in my heart I would do this. I also know it is hard for a man to say no to his wife so this won't be easy for you. My husband was a fabulous parent but he parented as a man and I respected his approach. Your wife must appreciate your approach and respect it. This may take some negotiation before it works. Sit her down and explain yourself and try to work out a plan that's reasonable. Believe me, parenting is much better if there is unison. Good luck.

There is no such thing as the "Perfect father", There is no such thing as the "Perfect Mother"

Do what you feel is best. Mrs M. is going to coddle "the baby" as she is doing what she believes is best.

It is a good thing that she "mollycoddles" your son. That is the female role. She is a female. You cannot change her. You married a female. Do not expect her to behave as a male.

But it is not the male role to "mollycoddle" your son.

Let Mrs. M do what Mrs. M is supposed to do. You do what you are supposed to do. Then be a peace with Mrs. M and be at peace with that.

Let Mrs. M know that you will not act as a female toward your children and that she needs to be at peace with that as she married a man...NOT a woman. If she expects you to behave as a female then that is unrealistic.

There is no "wrong" or "right" as long as you are not abusive nor neglectful. I do not believe that you are, nor will be, as you are genuine in your concern..

Your children will turn out fine. They will have two decent role models. Share this response with Mrs. M.

No snarky remark from me here. Good luck. They grow up too damned fast.  Enjoy your children while you can. They are wonderful.

Yes, you bring up some good points.  I never had a father so I would not know what one was from a child's point of view.  It is a little harder for me because I insisted that all the kids learn Russian.  The boy speaks almost perfect Russian and speaks exclusively in Russian,  I really do appreciate your thoughts.

I think you've hit the crux of the issue. Both my husband and I were primarily raised by our mothers. We have discovered we both have suffered because of this and have tried to make it different for our children. When you are raised by one parent you only have one perspective that is indoctrinated in your upbringing.

This is why I have an innate feeling having gay parents would be hard for children. So now you have 2 male or female perspectives instead of one? I had a collegue who was a Big Brother volunteer. He saw a little boy with 2 lesbian parents and told me some interesting stories. He was planning on relocating but put his plans on hold to help that little boy have some male bonding that was so desperately needed.

Men and women have equally valid parenting style and should be both respected. It seems to me only female parenting approaches today are valued and promulgated.

Off topic but this story just encapsulates so much that is wrong with the economy. There is irony here how Walmart is a retail welfare queen  collecting food for their employees who can't qualify for SNAP cards.

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2013/11/18/2960371/walmart-food-drive/

A Walmart in northeast Ohio is holding a holiday canned food drive — for its own underpaid employees. “Please Donate Food Items Here, so Associates in Need Can Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner,” a sign reads in the employee lounge of a Canton-area Walmart.

Kory Lundberg, a Walmart spokesman, says the drive is a positive thing. “This is part of the company’s culture to rally around associates and take care of them when they face extreme hardships,” he said. Indeed, Lundberg is correct that it’s commendable to make an effort to help out those who are in need, especially during the holidays.

Personal biased opinion. Both article and comments off point to the central issue.

Fact: Obamacare is an entitlement. ALL entitlements are statutory privileges created by a legislative body. legislative bodies can TAX the privileges it creates. Said taxes would fall within the classification of EXCISES. Justice Roberts was correct. The whole thing falls within the realm of the federal taxing power.

But wait. Who opened the door to the federal taxing power? Go back to the Social Security Act of 1936. The originating ACT of ALL entitlements. THE BASIS OF OBAMACARE. The feds create the ACT (tied to State police powers AKA unemployment/ old age insurance) and then the States sought federal permission to join the other States in the ACT through the federal COMPACT CLAUSE. The States then preempted for purposes of taxation and administrative control.

We live in a universe of cause and affect and the issue is not the taxing or commerce powers, but the direct actions of the State as it affects the CONTRACT CLAUSE. Under normal conditions, a persons labor is his property and what he earns (exchanges) for that property is also property. An even exchange. From a judicial perspective, no profit no gain, no (taxable) income. All that was BYPASSED when the fed obtained the power to tax the privilege and therefore apply an excise INDIRECTLY on the wage using said wage as a unit of measurement to calculate the tax. It also mooted the apportionionment clause as to direct taxation on property.

But back to the contract clause. The States cannot interefere with the obligation of contracts. And in most cases PAYMENT is the obligation. Funny thing about the power of taxation. Its an all or nothing proposition. If its a proper object of an excise, sky is the limit, courts cannot interfere. In other words, its not a question of amount, but one of POWER.

So the States could not apply its taxing powers against the obligation as it would entail the power to destroy. But now the States, being prohibited by the federal constitution from doing this, now somehow had the power to GIVE THE FEDS THE POWER TO DO THAT WHICH THEY THEMSELVES WERE PROHIBITED FROM DOING. And whereby effectively destroying the apportionment clause??? Can the States do this? Current Supreme court precedent says NO they cannot. But that case law has NEVER been applied to the subject matter at hand.

State/federal cooperative schemes can not rewrite, override, or moot written constitutions. We the people created them and only we the people can change them. Obama Care only exists because the States violated the federal constitution. THAT is the issue. Its the only issue. Everything else is but off point distraction.

Fact: Obamacare is an entitlement.

No its not. Its not even a tax.

An "entitlement" is paid for by government taxation on the user & remitted to the servicer. ObamaCare FORCES you to buy something from a corporation directly or pay a fine TO the government.

But of course, Roberts is an idiot and Obama is a fucking constitutional law professor, so here we are.

Tue, 11/19/2013 - 00:03 | 4168410 F em all but 6
F em all but 6's picture

Didnt say it was a tax. Said it falls under the taxing power and tried to explain why Roberts was correct. The so called fine is not a fine. It falls within the realm of an adjustment on deductions or an increase in the tax rate. Like the personal deduction. The legislature giveth and taketh away.

Like every other American, you do not understand "the system". I am one of the few that do. The SS Act is the absolute key to everything here. Just try to sign up for Obama care without an SS#. Cant do it. Try to file a 1040 without an SS#. Cant do it. Try to petition the US Tax court without an SS#. Cant do it. Yet, there is NO Statute that mandates that you must have the # to live and work in the US. The reason is that it is ALL voluntary. Why? Because it requires YOU to waive constitutional/judicial protections of Contract and property in exchange for what the courts would classify as extra ordinary protections paid for with money from the public treasury. The very basis of the privilege and thus the excise(s) tied to the privilege.

You have probably heard of the IRS phrase "voluntary compliance". Its very accurate and technically correct. YOU had to volunteer into the system by your application for benefits and protections. Once in, the terms of the privilege are mandatory including the application of summary siezure and forfiture laws AND fines/imprisionment for failing to adhere to the terms of the privilege.

Oh, another aspect of the so called fine. Within the system, the State/federal taxing authorities could take 100% of what you earn and leave you with nothing. As long as the wage is a proper object of an excise, the courts can not and will not interfere. EVER. So where, how, when they take it  matters not to the courts. As long as those similary situated are treated equally under the law, thats ALL that matters.

And please dont shoot the messenger. What you and I personally believe is irrelevant. What matters is what the judiciary believes. THIS is how they look at it and they have spelled this thing out in very clear terms.

"Didnt say it was a tax."

You said it was an entitlement. A tax is what pays for an entitlement. This law forces you to buy something from a private corporation to AVOID a fine/penalty from the government.

"Said it falls under the taxing power and tried to explain why Roberts was correct."

The court ruled on the narrow proposition of, does the Congress have the power to tax. Clearly it does, but a court can't uphold the actions of a legislature by suspending the laws of logic and nature unless it is upholding tyranny. This is the only law in the existence of mankind that directs a citizen to go to a private corporation to find out what their tax rate will be. Congress cannot delegate its power to tax to a corporation, legally.

"The so called fine is not a fine. It falls within the realm of an adjustment on deductions or an increase in the tax rate. Like the personal deduction. The legislature giveth and taketh away."

A corporation cannot dictate what a citizens tax rate will be (which is what ObamaCare does), no more than any "free" government can fine you for not asking that same corporation to tax you.

Its fraud, wrapped in the absurd, surrounded by kleptomania.

Accupuncture is called Voodoo under the ACA...Not that I ever got the nerve up to see an accupuncturist.

There was a time, however, that my problem required an operation. I was literally losing control of all my motor skills. It reuired an operation which I obtained in a private hospital in London. The procedure would have cost USD 80,000 in the US 10 years ago. I paid about USD 12,000, inclusive of four days in the hospital.

Now I have recently learned that the same procedure is considered a high margin procedure in the US and is being pushed unnecessarily by the cash flow hungry medical establishment, i.e., on patients who should first be trying other therapies etc. The worldwide numbers for spinal fushions are skewed heavily to the US.
