Mandela and Obama: Millions of Miles Apart

It’s always astonishing how funerals and memorial services can do two things to people. They make platform for public show and then they provide the opportunity for public speaking that knows no bounds in the hope that they will be remembered for eternity. Something that state funerals and public mourning have more than that is that the leaders, past and present, tend to flock to the ceremony in order to be viewed and counted amongst the solemn mourners and catch just a bit of the limelight.

Nelson Mandela died on December 5th and as the memorial service unravels today with leaders from around the world arriving in great exalted ceremony befitting in their belief to the high-status and rank, on the taxpayers’ money certain questions are raised as to the antagonistic difference between one man that fought for freedom and the others that have colluded to take the world’s freedom away.

Obama got a public tribune at the memorial service today in Johannesburg, South Africa. He didn’t just make a speech. He was on an international electoral roll and that in itself is unjustified and unbefitting in the situation. It ended up costing the taxpayer $5 million and seemed more like a personal tribute than a national one from the USA; a personal tribute to himself rather than to the great Mandela.

The flight came to a total cost of $180,000 per hour; fuel was included however. President Obama was accompanied by the First Lady. The Attorney General Eric Holder also went along and so did Susan Rice, the national security adviser. The speech given by Obama lasted 19 minutes.

Time and again Obama spoke of action and ideas. He talked of how actions are shaped by our ideas:

Mandela taught us the power of action, but he also taught us the power of ideas; the importance of reason and arguments; the need to study not only those who you agree with, but also those who you don’t agree with. He understood that ideas cannot be contained by prison walls, or extinguished by a sniper’s bullet.”

It is most fitting that Obama has spoken of studying not only those that we agree with but also those who we don’t agree with. Perhaps that’s why the President took along with Susan Rice. Studying is a euphemism for surveillance and so now we understand why the President has been watching us all and condoning the NSA’s actions.

It seems so strange that the President of the USA should speak of the need to put things down into law: “Mandela demonstrated that action and ideas are not enough. No matter how right, they must be chiseled into law and institutions.”

We have seen the same things with the self-righteous laws of the USA on the state surveillance of the NSA, Mr. Obama allowing anything to become possible. But, please do not compare yourself to the great man and the great actions that tried to free a nation from Apartheid.

It was no time to talk of yourself Mr. Obama. No time at all: “But I believe it should also prompt in each of us a time for self-reflection. With honesty, regardless of our station or our circumstance, we must ask: How well have I applied his lessons in my own life? It’s a question I ask myself, as a man and as a President.” Although, yes the question begs an answer.

Perhaps you must stop asking yourself the questions and start listening to the answers: “The questions we face today -- how to promote equality and justice; how to uphold freedom and human rights; how to end conflict and sectarian war -- these things do not have easy answers.” The answers may not be easy, but they are there already, Mr. Obama.

President Obama ended his speech today on this one idea: that Mandela “makes me want to be a better man”. You have the inkling in an answer there already.

Mandela fought effortlessly for recognition. He painstakingly refused to accept the situation of the South Africans that were considered to be second-class citizens because of the color of their skin. The freedom, the human rights he lived for, that he was imprisoned for, that he became President for are all a million miles away from those that the USA has taken away from the rest of the world in the name of their personal fight for security. It’s time that that stopped, but it’s also time for the self-praise in unfitting moments to come to an end.

Did Mandela, or did he not, engage in, promote, condone, and never renounce, violence against not only white oppressors, but also his fellow black countrymen?

Do not make the mistake of conflating today's mis-application and overuse of a word with it's more accurate and correct use. It will cause others to question your intelligence and/or motivations.

Mandela is another commie phony like Obama. Like most blacks, he thinks whitey is what is holding blacks back when it's IQ and too much testosterone. Blacks are at the bottom of every country for a good reason. Africa is a fourth world continent for a good reason: IQ.

It has been scientifically proven and suppressed.

However, Blacks raised as YTs can achieve as much as anyone else.

The lighter their skin, the moar intelligence genes they possess.

Likewiswe, YTs who become Wiggers sink to the lowest depths of thuggery.

On average, black Africans aren't any dumber or smarter than whites (don't worry, feel free to stop reading now). I'm sure if you would confer a black baby to white parents at birth, he would grow up "white" in all the meanings of the word, just as a white baby would grow into a "black" adult in the opposite case. Nothing to do with the colour of your skin or purely biological reasons.

The problem is most black Africans are essentially tribalists, which is why they so often suck at running a decent centralised political structure, our "white" political model. Whites have had centuries to evolve from small communities through city states and similarly small organised structures to a complex central state, whereas African tribes have been quite brutally confronted with an entirely new set of rules through colonisation. Once decolonised (an often chaotic process, which of course didn't exactly help things), the local rulers quickly returned to the habit of taking care of their own tribe first, with the intrests of the nation only coming second, if at all. In other words, it takes time to start thinking and acting nationally.  As for Mandela, all I can say is that in my view it takes a special kind of guy to be imprisoned all those years, come out if to become a president and then bring a message of reconciliation. Not many blacks or whites would match that.

Blacks in Africa have an average IQ of 70. In America it's 85, a full standard deviation below whites. It's only this high because of all the mixed breed kids that are the result of the raping of white women. To think that everyone is equally intelligenct is really stupid. There are mean differences in IQ between the races. Those translate into difference kinds of societies. Discussing this only gets you called a racist which is the response of those too dumb or too lazy to think.

" There are mean differences in IQ between the races. Those translate into difference kinds of societies. "

I would have turned it the other way :  " There are differences between societies. Those translate into differences in IQ. "

By the way, I'm not sure that, however you turn it, these are the real explanations of differences .

" negro monkeys had far more time to evolve from tribal society to civilization than the whiteys. "

And if some theories about the african origins of homo sapiens are true, those you call the whiteys are no more than a slight particular evolution of those you call the negro monkeys. So, we can say that in some way they did evolve to civilization.

By the way, may I remind you that Egypt is also an African country.

That, my fine broad-minded fellow, is where the climate comes in: if the climate is mild and sunny, providing food all year round, there's not much incentive to organise, whereas when you start migrating to an environment with harsher climatic conditions, you need to start planning and organising much more carefully in order to survive: shelter, food that needs to be stored for the barren winter months etc. And it all starts from there.

It works a bit like entitlements (apart from the moral aspect, that is): if you receive enough of those to get along just fine, what's the point in looking for a job?

" ... is where the climate comes in: if the climate is mild and sunny, providing food all year round, there's not much incentive to organise ... "

You may have some point here. But if you think about South East Asia, for example, you will realize that mild and sunny climate probably doesn't explain everything.

One thing that struck me, when I read it, is the fact that, apparently, there are sometimes more DNA differences between two African populations than between some African populations and the europeans.

I wonder if that could be part of an explanation for the fact that Africa seems to stay a "tribal continent" .

Leftists will always defend all actions and results based on intent. The fact that millions die and suffer is of little consequence if their intentions are pure. Conservatives are quite the opposite in that regardless of results, their intent is always evil, as they always want to know if it works and how much it costs. They want to let children, women, minorities, sick an old, die, whereas the progressives will put programs into action to ensure it happens....for their own good.

What did Mandela do?   He didn't end apathied in South Africa, the sanctions did that.  ALL of Madela's accomplishments were negative in that they were based on what he DIDN"T do.

1.)  He didn't wantonly murder people.  This is so unique among black African leaders that it warrants a Nobel Peace prize. (Yes thats racist. For the Nobel committee.)

2.)  He didn't use his political office to punish enemies.   He wasn't vindictive.

3,)  He seems to have tried to govern South Africa for the benefit of its citizens, not as a stage to advance his "legacy" by sweeping changes.

So he's seen as being nearly a saint just by doing what would have been considered normal behavior for a Victorian era prime minister.

Choomboy seems to think he is amazing.  Wonder why? (Hint: how many of the above aaply to Choomboy?)

Madela “makes me want to be a better man” says the light bringer as he prepares another drone kill list.   It is a "want" that will forever be unsatisfied.

Neither Mandela nor sanctions ended Apartheid - the Collapse of the Soviet Union did.

The collapse of the Soviet Union solved every festering communist insurgency in Southern Africa.  All were peacefully wound down in the early 1990's - because the Soviets were previously behind every one.   Mozambique, Namibia, Angola.  The end of the Soviets also allowed the Afrikaaners to negotiate a surrender of power without fear of being slaughtered in a foreign-sponsored Civil War.   Only Mugabe remained in power, but Jimmy Carter and the Brits gave that country over to him in the late 70's.

I disagree vehemently with this article.

Mandela: communist? Check.

Mandela: hated caucasians? Check.

Mandela: sought world attention on the stage of 'pity' upon those of a 'different race'? Check.

Mandela: promised his followers 'equality' and 'justice' and left his nation deep in racist divisions and opressions unheard of in history? Check.

I could go on about the reasons why the author of this article is incorrect about the differences between the commie Mandela and the commie Obama...I see that Obama called for 'government' agencies to fly Old Glory at 'half-staff' because of his MENTOR'S death...

Whites in S. Africa made the same mistake others have done of bringing in slaves to work the land. Eventually the slaves outbred the natives and you had a large population of uneducated and dumb people who took over the society and ran it into the ground. S. Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, is famous for raping babies so blacks can cure themselves of AIDs, one of the highest rates of AIDs, and is rapidly descending from first to third world status. Let blacks run S. Africa another 40 years and it will be like the rest of Africa.

i don't know much about mandela or his history, and frankly, i doubt that you know him well and can speak from experience either.

and, to be sure, to struggle for human dignity for all people is a noble thing and a benefit to society as a whole.

however, i have heard from others whom i respect that there was a much darker side to mandela, that is kept out of the media, and that is his role in actual terrorism, the mass bombings of civilian targets.

not to mention that SA rapidly grew into the rape and murder capital of the world soon after mandela took office.

he is not the saint that the media portrays him as, not the "great man" you think him to be, it seems.

i saw stefan molyneux discuss this topic yesterday:
