ah, great art.

Reminds me of a silly argument some fool in twitter had with me. Dared to call me a "rentier" while himself demanding a LAND VALUE TAX. On everything.

Everyone.

The Stupid was strong with that one. Statism is a disease. If nation states were meant to be they'd be stable & form without force just of their own economic accord. We'll see if that ever comes to be on its own... or maybe we won't.

Bro, you're gonna get a kick out of this

http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/femen-frauen-stoeren-weihnachtsgottesd...

She's cute and she's gutsy. Crazy enough to jump in front of the Cardinal in Cologne, Germany during "Holy" Mass on Christmas Eve.

20 y/o and full of activist energy. I'm too old to date her and my wife would probably object as well.

But man, what a girl. I see great potential in her future.

Fucking genius!

Not sure if you all have seen this but, alert alert!!

Two to three days until the impact of the new wave of radiation is to hit the US West Coast.

Five to six days until it hits the mid-west. Seven to nine days until this hits the east coast. Protect yourselves accordingly NOW!

How?

No fallout shelters.

I suppose one could stay indoors most of the next week.

Since there is no world-wide UN type emergency engineering effort happening, TPTB must know we are all Fucked.

Or, since no huge international effort is going on, we are all "OK."

My solution was to dump tons of concrete with lead flakes added in until the entire site was buried. Build a concrete plant near the site and rotate in a fleet of choppers with dump buckets 24/7 until it is covered.

Mon, 12/30/2013 - 13:57 | 4285743 MeelionDollerBogus
MeelionDollerBogus's picture

last I read on the topic the radiation was bad enough to kill every pilot who tries it & it's big enough it would take decades to carry over all that concrete in the air.

Know what I think might work? Heavy shelling. Except all the mortars, bullets, etc., to be smashed in, all be neutron moderating materials. Sadly one of those is silver. Yes, we all would like to see more silver as money but if it would save the world from radioactive apocalypse it's a good intrinsic value use. Very good indeed. As for anything else soaking up the radiation... dunno. Lead's good for gamma radiation, but I'm no expert. There is plenty of gamma from the cesium 137 decay but quite a lot of alpha & beta emitters there too. Again, I'm no expert but will lead help against those? I'm guessing any high-pressure leaks in any containment will merely boil & spray out clouds of those emitters, carried in the wind to us.

RovingGrokster's picture

Alpha and beta particles are short range.
Most alpha particles can be stopped by a sheet of paper, and most beta particles by a sheet of foil.
Neutrons and gamma rays are the thing. Lead, carbon, and concrete will help for those. The more lead and concrete the better.

Wed, 01/01/2014 - 12:56 | 4290890 MeelionDollerBogus
MeelionDollerBogus's picture

OK, the particles are short-range but steam is carrying particles and is being shot upward, isn't it? At least part of the time. That's what makes this a little more tricky. Planes, and especially helicopters, aren't radiation-shielded rocket-capsules. They're a little more leaky than you'd really want for a situation like this. That's why I'm a much bigger fan of shelling the place with loads of neutron-moderator materials to start, enough to really screw up any fission. It's not a whole solution but if it can drastically reduce the rate of radiation maybe then a few brave pilots could make a go of it - at least getting to 10 to 100 flights in a person plus concrete load, rather than say 3 flights and you're gonna die of cancer or your eyes start melting.

Modeer ships for fools:

let's see we could rent Sout Korean container ships and promise free vacations for those who vote for Democrats and RiNO's.  You could really pack up one of those containers before you sealed it.  By the time the ship reached China or India it would have containers of ferililzer that could be sold to off set some of the cost of shipping.

"Renaissance men developed a delightful, yet horrible way of dealing with their mad denizens: they were put on a ship and entrusted to mariners because folly, water, and sea, as everyone then 'knew', had an affinity for each other. Thus, 'Ship of Fools' crisscrossed the sea and canals of Europe with their comic and pathetic cargo of souls. Some of them found pleasure and even a cure in the changing surroundings, in the isolation of being cast off, while others withdrew further, became worse, or died alone and away from their families. The cities and villages which had thus rid themselves of their crazed and crazy, could now take pleasure in watching the exciting sideshow when a ship full of foreign lunatics would dock at their harbors."

beg to differ wb7...

"The United Nations recently released a heartening update on its ‘millennium goals’ for the developing world, with many of its 2015 targets on the way to being met, or indeed already met. The target to halve the number of people living on less than US$1.25 per day was achieved in 2010; the proportion of undernourished people fell from 23% of the developing world in 1990-92 to under 15% in 2010-2012; more than 2 billion people gained access to improved sources of drinking water. The list goes on but suffice to say that never in history have so many people across the globe lived so comfortably. This reflects the fact that with global GDP set to exceed US$74 trillion this year, never has the world produced this much."  courtesy John Mauldin newsmail

We the People of the United States, are slipping, unless you are either (a) some self entitled government asshole sitting in Vichy DC or (b) some self entitled billionaire financeir sitting in a glasstower in NYC, or (c) some self entitled data parasite sitting in Silicon Valley. If you are one of those, you are doing nicely.

However, on a global relative basis, the United States is progressing nicely in the corruption, cronyism and statism departments, no to mention the concentration of wealth and political power in the hands of the fewer.

I wonder what these people would say:

WP--As a second New Year since Hurricane Sandy approaches, many coastal residents are still waiting for New York, New Jersey and New York City to distribute billions of federal dollars that were intended to go directly to people struggling to rebuild their homes.

Only a fraction of that money has been spent, leaving storm victims at the mercy of a frustrating maze of bureaucracy. Depending on where they live, the checks could be days to many more months away.

You can be sure, they guy in charge of that clusterfuck just got a raise for Christmas.

As for the UN. I agree with you that there has never been a finer propaganda organization.

Yeah, but. If you took a snap shot of life where I another ten million live today, and hundred years ago. You would see a very different picture.

The people then, though many were 'poorer' (in a financial sense) and malnourished, had fresh air and less food and water safety risks. Not only safe food, cleaner water and fresher air, but more safety in a general sense, which is now being taken.

I remember playing football in the street as a kid, riding my bicycle to school safely, (and without a pollution mask). This year alone pollution levels have reached unprecedented levels. Not only that, many young people have been left with a bleaker outlook for the future, as far as the curreent and near future employment landscape looks. Without the luxury of affording the necessary backing or connections to get buy the same insurance for the future against such threats to health and security, we all suffer a more dependant life, in hospitals, and in work trying to make ends meet. This is without considering much of that which entails quality of life. Community, culture, and the ephemiral qualities we could previously touch, smell, hear, see and taste are disappearing.

But, like you say, according to the UN, more of us can now can eat to the hearts content with lower quality food, (for now). All thanks to maintaining urbanisation and sustaining GPD growth. Please. Can I have some more?

Yeah, but if I was born 100 years ago I'd be dead today, and that would totally suck!

In fact, if I WAS born 100 years ago, I'd have been 5 years old when the great 1918 flu pandemic struck, so that would probably be it for me.

Of course penicillin wasn't discovered until 1928, so having survived the pandemic, there's no telling what I might have died from before my 15th birthday.

And surviving that, I'd still have WWII to look forward to, as a combatant no doubt, being of draft age and all.

Naw, you can keep your 100 years ago, I'm happy right where I am.  In fact I'd say I was born about 20 years too soon going by all the hot chicks around these days.

this page lays it all out:

however, seems like Bonus Depreciation has increased past $2,M (2013)/$200k (2014) limit.   but BD only applies to New Equipment, not used.

thanks, my friend & oui!  as you can see (the janus avatar), i'm always up for just about anything.

i also see that we've attracted some serial down-voters round here...i can only interpret this in the way it's clearly intended -- as an encouragement to janus (and all True ZHelaots) -- that he should post more music, and that he should stoke the embers heating the haters with a bit more brusque &  brio...that is to say, perhaps i should be agressively offensive -- i've been far too much the milquetoast of late.

as we approach the new year, i've been doing some reflecting.  the results of which will not surprise anyone.

janus, as always, extends an open, enthusiastic and (again) aggressive invitation to all haters...please, oh, please show your faces...know that i will, as always, be doing all that i can to provoke you into a debate.

cummon, nsa & other various & sundry govt. goons....don't you pea-brains have anyone -- or even a team of anyones -- who can come at janus?  i think i've taught you bitchez that an end-around won't work -- why not try the direct approach once more? note: bring your testicles; yer gonna need em.

not to get too much into spooky esoterics & #s and whatnot; but let's just say that 2013 was the year of my incubation...and now, as i feel the shell about me quiver and crack, i know i'm bout to hatch:

oh, mi amigo, America will rock like nevah before.  this post-ww2 shit has me perturbed...i don't like preturbation; i favor liberty, transparency, integrity, sound money, legitimacy...cwazy shit.

i have been about threshing the peoples of this nation...and according to my reckoning (as regards the threshing), America is not only worth saving, it is the very last & single light, hope & truth for this, our secular world.  there are more Good Americans than you can shake a stick at...and so, that being said, i'm going to play some neil young -- cause you made me think of him...but i don't want anyone to misinterpret my meaning with any of the following selections (mr. young is, after all, pure canadian).

oops...i'm gonna start with jackson browne -- cause that just popped in my mind after ponderin over neil young.
