My brother actually had one of those in high school. A glorified mini-bike.

A glorified mini-bike?  Yeah, well I suppose it was- but in the late sixties, early seventies era they embodied cheap freedom within them.  I became a teenager in 1970.  The Honda 90 was the shizzle.

It was fun, but the Kawasaki 350 was what we dreamt about.

You mean that two-cycle screamer?  She was badass.  I always wanted the one in root beer brown.  That would've been a Yamaha, though.  The designation was RD350, if I recall.

Off topic first you have the chemical spill in West Virginia contaminating drinking water now this going on at pretty much the same time.

http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=260884

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) confirmed to the Governor's Nuclear Advisory Council a plume of radioactive Tritium is in the groundwater.

"DHEC has documented there is a plume leaking from the site but the problem with Tritium is it's hard to remediate, it's hard to clean it up," said Tom Clements, Southeast Nuclear Campaign Coordinator for Friends of the Earth.  "So we have to look at ways to stop it from leaking from the dump."

Clements says DHEC's annual updates monitor the plume, but fail to provide a long term solution on how to keep ground water safe.

The plume is moving off the Barnwell Nuclear site southwest toward the Savannah River Site.  Traces of Tritium have also been found in Mary's Branch Creek.

"About 95 percent of the 235 acres are under institutional care," said site director Michael Benjamin.

Pretty much a tritium plume near any reactor. NRC allows a pretty good level of release by every NPP operator, can't be filtered so off it goes.

as to inspiration and such, i'm going to ignore the chris christie element in today's art.  my brain has a zero-tolerance policy regarding all politicians from NJ; and so i'll have to instead focus on the snow.

did ya'll know it gets cold in new england?  perversely cold...insuperably cold...sea-freezingly cold...face-blisteringly cold...a cold that settles deep into everything -- you're at all times aware of it, like an implacable menace.

cold is suffering made manifest within the very elements themselves; and that's what i really want to talk about: suffering.

suffering, and who's suffered the mostest, is a core doctrine in this age's new religion.  yes, the peddlers of tears and woe constitute a new priesthood; and we must all before them genuflect, make penance with respect to our imputed guilt (according to our respective ranking on The Guilt Index), pass through the stations of the pentagram of penitence, take the sacraments of kool-aid and circus-bread, repent, bow our heads...'go and sin no more', we're cautioned as we're again escorted out.

but, did you ZHealots ever for one moment stop and ask yourselves who, just WHO exactly, issued these buffoons the right or privilege to mediate, relegate and designate some system of weights measures by which we're all to appropriate guilt according to the most arbitrary and inverted morality-code any state sanctioned religion's ever devised.  it's all rotten balderdash, if you ask janus.

make no mistake, what we in this present age have is indeed a religion...it calls itself 'humanist' & 'secular' but it's anything but. it worships the great god of utility & efficiency; it atones before its altar; it compels you to kneel; it subdues your very will.  Someone once called that god's name Mammon.

and so i'm tired of coming out on the losing end of this religion...time for a new testament & new covenant (as it were).

with all that in mind, and understanding the essential force in collective pity, i want to present an idea that i believe will fix all of the world's problems in one fail swoop.

mistah president, may i present the janus-doctrine for the salvation of amorica:

i do hereby propose that we properly designate the war of northern aggression and the ensuing process of 'reconstruction' as a holocaust.  technically, it was.  in all Truth, it was horrific.  and, unlike other holocausts, we can document everything; and back up every number with a tombstone...a whole god-foresaken region soaked in senseless blood; georgia burnt to the goddam ground.  famines, pestilence, wholesale looting, rape, pillage, slaughter...all the ingredients needed to make the perfect genocide.

dats rite, bitchez...janus is a holocaust survivor.  pity me NOW!!!!!!

ain't none of you mutha-fuckers got shit on my people's sufferin! i'll see yer holocaust and raise you a reconstruction; i'll see your slavery and raise you a subjugation!

now THAT'S how we ALL learn to get along.

ohhhh, WildBill, i think tonight's gonna be one of those nights; janus feels the unmistakable stir of mischief...all this and i haven't even had my first beer...yet.

i'm your national anthem,

janus

Ah, Janus...

As perfectly fitting, a two-faced response... first you deride humanism and secularism, then deride that which isn't.

As I slap the cheeks of both faces, all I receive is but a fart in the vulgarate, worse, the local dialect of the basest.

Enjoy your life in the shortest, and most brutal, as they would wish... as the "victim" they have invented. No recourse, revenge, or, in the best possible light, GROWTH.

I will take the better way... around, through, paralell, or simpy, AGAINST.

But, you'll have your beer, settle easily into "america's talent", "dancing stars", or some clearly channeled radio station.

Yes, "survivor", tell us the story of how you survived, yet everyone about you had perished.... as the only survivor, you don't have to go into the details of betrayal, treason, or slander, just to earn your next maggot-ridden bowl of what the dogs eat from poop.

Sleep well.

janus's picture

fret not, janus sleeps the sleep of the Saints...sound-like.

but i thought you should know it's all an intricate ruse...janus is, in all actuality, a greasy, pimply-faced gastropod living in his mother's basement.  i'm sufferin through type III diabetes (they had to create a new category for me) as we speak!  and...hold on a minute whilst i brush the dorito crumbs from offa my floppy, cellulite-swollen chest...AND i am anything but an existential threat to the status quo.

i possess no electric and/or eerily compelling charisma; i can't debate my way outta a soggy paper bag; females cannot stand the sight of me.

there again, it all depends on which face yer lookin at; and, more importantly, which eye is boring into your soul.

i leave it to them:

what is it to be?  goodness or badness?  in either case, they're gonna git themselves a smorgasbord of whatsoevah they want the most.

i saw WB-Banzai's Christ-graffiti below and so janus put on the nice face...couldn't help it.

i do try to be sweet; but it is at times evah-so difficult.

but we all got our crosses to bear.

furthermore, i read him carefully; determined he was just bein a bit ornery (something i can fully understand); and that he bore no contentious intent.

the only thing i really pulverize is disrespect...other than that, it's just debate.

{i recall you fondly, Acetinker...how's everything in your world?}

oh, Acetinker, unless i'm mistaken, i similarly recall that you're keen on music; most especially the good stuff:

brother Bill, i told you years ago that i'm your biggest fan...i wasn't exaggeratin.

i saw this a few days ago; had some thoughts about it; meditated on it; and now have this to say about it:

janus knows that almost all are averse to anything Jesus...what, with all the churchianity, religionism, barbarism and tyrrany that has, through the millenia, attended that name, i do not in any way fault or blame any Jesus haters.  even so, i beg any/all of you to open scripture and read His words as quoted in the Gospels -- pure & simple, unoccluded by byzantine theologies, duplicitous doctrines or any crafty contortions of His intent.  there is therein a power and resonance unrivaled and matchless in all the world of thought, sublimity and Beauty.

Jesus Christ is the original world-cracker; the preeminent earth-shaker; the living emblem for any revolutionary.

Jesus is The Man.

ALL crowns, thrones & states standing in His way WILL perish (mark my fuckin word).

again, i hate to belabor this point; knowing, as i do, how it vexes so many...but i wanted to do my part to illuminate the mystery: why does this person continue to move folks the way He does?  it is simply because He lives...and mightily in janus.

but, for my part, i'm a just lil measure lamb and a whole lotta lion...i ain't perfect, after all.

don't pray for us/

we don't need no modern-jesus,

if anything the scandal adds value to his image. i dont think obama is any different or that the public thinks he is any different, (though i did see a poll today, we think bummer is a nice guy, but an average prez) my secret poll says we think bo is a manipulative backstabbing sob, and since we dont much like the GOP congress, or vlad putin, we bought the package to keep the wolf from the door. the transition from bummer to christie is pretty seamless, i dont know what christies family life looks like, but his birth certificate appears to be in order. hillary raises a lot of questions, and in the age of no change she is a bit too far out there. we're getting to know christie and that works in his favor. or romney, who i think has twice the personal moral capacity of bummer, but again that represents change, and america wants none of that. and rand paul to make an early run, much like pat buchanan used to do, in order to make the platform committee, what a joke george bush made of that. ok forget it christie vs kerry.
