Does Your Gang Affiliation Prevent You From Thinking Clearly?

smartknowledgeu's picture

Whether we will admit it or not, a lot of us engage in gang member-like thinking that destroys our ability to divergently think, critically think and even consider the truth when the truth challenges the group-think of the “gang”.

Ishmael Cisneros, a member of the notorious global crime syndicate, the Mara Salvatrucha, better known as MS-13, says that once you join a gang, “your mind closes off to the rest of the world and you’re capable of doing anything for the gang…don’t get caught up in the world of gangs, especially for those that think there’s something good in it. It’s all lies.”

Yet many of us that deny we ever engage in the vapid and counter-productive gang mentality that Cisneros describes above unintentionally allow ourselves to be bound by this gang mentality by TPTB that deliberately shuttle people into adopting gang mentality through divide and conquer tactics based upon religious, political, and racial affiliations.

If we are truly honest with ourselves, we will all admit to having engaged in “gang-think” at one point in our lives, and perhaps of still engaging in these counter-productive thought patterns today. It’s time to deconstruct this type of mentality so that we can awaken to the truth and always choose what is best for the greater good of humanity over what is best for our gang only as we move forward. Separating ourselves from gang think will be essential for not only survival but also for a positive mental health state in coming years as Central Banks keep destroying the purchasing power of fiat currencies and people's struggles all over the world consequently intensify.

"From the Buddhist perspective, given the mind-boggling number of life-forms that fill the universe, human life is a rare privilege with special responsibilities. Ultimately, the Buddhist understanding of human dignity is rooted in the idea that we are able to choose the path of self-perfection."

The time to act is now. From the conventional point of view, we should begin practicing the teaching of the Buddha now because life is short and its end is unpredictable. The Buddha set forth three more reasons why we should act now:

(1) Rare is birth as a human being
(2) Scarce is the probability of hearing the Dharma
(3) Serious is the delusion of our mind
Rare is Birth as a Human Being
...
Scarce is the Probability of Hearing the Dharma

To be able to hear the Buddha's teachings, one has to be born in the realm of human beings at the time when and in the place where the access to the Dharma is available.

A Blind Turtle in Search of a Floating Wood

In the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, the Buddha used the metaphor of a blind turtle in a vast ocean to explain how difficult it is to be reborn as a human being and at the same time to have the chance of hearing the Dharma.

Suppose there is a small piece of wood floating on a vast ocean. The wood has a small hole the size of which is just enough for the head of a turtle to pop into. There is a long-lived sea turtle in the ocean. Once every one hundred years, this turtle comes out from the bottom of the ocean and pops his head into the hole of the wood.

To be able to hear the Dharma is just as hard as for the blind turtle to encounter the small piece of wood on a vast ocean and let its head go through the hole in the wood piece.

while criticism of group-think (or "gang-think") is alway a good thing imho, I have also some criticism for any extreme individualistic views

sure, if you live somewhere far, far away from the great power struggles of the world, insulated from them, in a form of extreme autarchy, including being self-sufficient in basic necessities like food, water, security, etc. then you can of course aspire to the heady philosophy of pure individualism

though if you share your lot with freaking over 50% of the population of this world, i.e. your water comes from an aqueduct, your food is delivered from the countryside, your security can't be provided by yourself alone - i.e. if you live in a city - then extreme individualism is the very best way to lose your freedom and your autonomy

then in any city you share. your interests are the interests of others, too. your needs are the needs of others, too. call it the damnation of civilization if you want, but those are facts

of course this does not apply to cities only. Afghanistan, as an example of a territory on the crossroads between whole civilizations, is also not the place to "ask the world to leave you alone". and sitting on valuable resources does also not allow you to the luxury of ignoring everything that happens further away than a day of foot travel

so think. extreme individualism might not be in your interest. though keeping you isolated, atomized, and so helpless might be in the interest of others

BTW, 'extreme individualism' is an extremely asinine phrase.

Total bunkum. Involuntary interaction, servitude, is the bane of humankind and the lifeblood of mankind. It is the mindset of one person or group claiming superiority over another person or group and backing it by use of force. That alone shows that the claimant to be the inferior.

If you want to understand the failure of government, look at the 400 million deaths it caused in the 20th century, or the ten or hundreds of trillions of dollars in wealth stolen or destroyed.

If you want to see people interact voluntarily, come by here (city) when there's a 20" snowfall.

Individualism, freedom, and civilization are all very complimentary. Government is in no way complimentary to any of them.

I think the idea here is not to simply give in to affiliatory thinking, and think for oneself, whether you're in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of Manhattan.  The only time "group-think" is advantageous is during life-threatening events or acts of nature where people in that circumstance either all stick together or all die together.

A time and place for everything.

Uncle Remus, I was writing about extreme individualism, not defense of liberty. how do you plan to apply your extremism in the defense of liberty? alone?

further, extremists tend to be isolated groups. moderate groups are broader, and get more traction in the long run

don't get me into commenting on Goldwater. I shared his views against Communism. but that was a different age. and he was not for everybody's liberty

btw, he also said "we, as a nation, are not far from the kind of moral decay that has brought on the fall of other nations and people.... I say it is time to put conscience back in government. And by good example, put it back in all walks of American life."

Yes, you are writing about extreme individualism and in the context of the defense of liberty, extreme individualism is an apt description for the perception I've encountered when, in conversation, I discuss preserving one's liberty in an environment openly hostile to said liberty.

Extremism is a perception. I don't consider what I do to protect my liberty (which includes my privacy, the fruit of my labor, et al) extreme but apparently this is not a majority opinion. However, I know that I am not alone in that perspective but for now, I am alone in applying it. Of course, it is not quite that simple and similar actions by others will have some cumulative effect, perhaps even mimic or even morph into a collective effort, but it begins with each individual.

Extreme and individualism are words that are used as weapons against liberty, to isolate those that embrace it and collectivize those that cannot fathom it or will not take personal responsibility for their own.

What Really Happened..."If it fits in a 30 Second Sound Bite it is NOT HISTORY. It is propaganda."

Yes this site is loaded with COINTEL. I find it humorous but one can "Data Mine" the site and determine who is working for whom. For an example we definitely have Israeli Agents, Mossad, working on the site. Some pose as Anti-Israeli while others pose as Pro Israeli.

I also have noticed both RNC and DNC Operatives. Again these people will take both positions of the debate in order to "Steer the Debate" to the desired outcome.

ZH is not exclusive to this. On the Yahoo Boards it is more transparent as Yahoo uses the Approval Rating System to bump Posts.

Molding Public Opinion is "Big Business". I wonder if the Tylers are Data Mining behind the scenes.

Do a search. Type in cointellpro internet Zerohedge and see what pops up as a result.

This is just one of the results from that search. It is an instruction guide:

http://www.realistnews.net/Thread-cointelpro-techniques-for-dilution-misdirection-and-control-of-an-internet-forum--15868

It says,

COINTELPRO Techniques for Dilution, Misdirection and Control of an Internet Forum

We will go over each technique and demonstrate that only a minimal number of operatives can be used to eventually and effectively gain a control of a 'uncontrolled forum.'

Technique #1 - 'FORUM SLIDING'

If a very sensitive posting of a critical nature has been posted on a forum - it can be quickly removed from public view by 'forum sliding.' In this technique a number of unrelated posts are quietly prepositioned on the forum and allowed to 'age.' Each of these misdirectional forum postings can then be called upon at will to trigger a 'forum slide.' The second requirement is that several fake accounts exist, which can be called upon, to ensure that this technique is not exposed to the public. To trigger a 'forum slide' and 'flush' the critical post out of public view it is simply a matter of logging into each account both real and fake and then 'replying' to prepositined postings with a simple 1 or 2 line comment. This brings the unrelated postings to the top of the forum list, and the critical posting 'slides' down the front page, and quickly out of public view. Although it is difficult or impossible to censor the posting it is now lost in a sea of unrelated and unuseful postings. By this means it becomes effective to keep the readers of the forum reading unrelated and non-issue items.

Technique #2 - 'CONSENSUS CRACKING'

A second highly effective technique (which you can see in operation all the time at http://www.abovetopsecret.com) is 'consensus cracking.' To develop a consensus crack, the following technique is used. Under the guise of a fake

Keep in mind that your identity on this and all other blogs is easily determined.  Cookies are dropped on your machine and are picked up later to correlate IP addresses, web visits, etc.  You are not anonymous on the web.

You can be.   Or at least camouflaged to the point it requires extreme manpower and resources to find your identity.  But it is highly inconvenient.  And a second phone or laptop for which you paid cash and refurbished is a good start but inadequate if its location tends to covary with the location of another phone.  That is easily spotted in metadata.

You have to move a large distance from your first phone.  Leave the first phone on with a trusted buddy.  Make sure there are no security cameras nearby when you power up your device.   Take the battery out when not using. don't ever leave it on near your primary phone.

Night is the best time. Your regular phone is on but stationary.  If a device powers up two miles away and surfs the net or makes calls it would be difficult to trace it back to you unless there were security cameras nearby.

Use a VPN and erase all cookies.  Never surf sites you normally surf because pattern analysis can suggest possible owners based on web history.   Don't act too secretive with the second phone or laptop.  You just want to appear like an ordinary schmuck trying to hide his porn habit and not hiding it well lol.
