I think the Obama is making a major political mistake NOT being there.
He could have distanced himself from Carter among taking the high road in a number of ways....
He could have made an attempt to portray himself as a director or leader rather than a corporate apparatchik
I went and sat with my wife for the opening ceremony because I knew I had to. She cried. This Olympics is just a HUGE deal to her and all Russians and I knew it would be. I thought a good job was done for the most part on the opening ceremony. She laughed at the faux pas and I held fast with not saying anything and distracted the three year old male as best I could so she could watch the Bolshoi ballet event.
Mrs. M brought up BO not being there and asked why I thought that was. I had no immediate answer for that but we all know why. Those are good talking points for me to ask the DFL now that I am a DFL.

Let me be absolutely clear on this point.
I have no use for the commercial propagandanza called the International Olympics. Sochi, London, Athens, Salt Lake City, Rio whatever...
This was not always my opinion. Athletic competition can be a great thing.
But the whole spectacle of the Olympics has morphed into something well beyond the myth of its humble origins. Something that I couldn't care a less about, right along with the Super Bowl, the Kardashians and Justin Bieber.
The corruption, grandiose mismanagement and local history of Sochi is just fertile ground for an additional layer of satire. But the basic Olympic farce is not exclusively a Russian invention.

William, your work brilliant as always. The Sochi 2014 image of the dog, so poignant, so sad, struck me so hard in the heart that emotion rises and tears still come to my eyes. Looking at that picture, I draw close to that Infinite Well of Sadness and Grief to which passings of my dear dogs (two last year) bring me, too. Often your images stir higher chakras -- especially the fifth and sixth, occasionally the second. This one opened the flood gates of the fourth chakra for me. Thank you.

I don't know about you, when I read something, I read it critically. This means I don't swallow what I read hook line and sinker. I parse through it and decide what my own view is. I rarely if ever agree with everything I read. If i did, I would be the village idiot...though as I have said before, I know I am a fool.
In this case, reading that article provides plenty of clues of who is angling for what in and around Sochi. Whether or not to believe it all is entirely up to the reader.
I'll tell you something else, 9 times out of 10, the designation "Foundation" is synonymous with "Agenda."
