Here is something truly disturbing (if true) about our active military vs. our veterans. Truth is always somewhere in the middle and while I don't concur that the vast majority of our active military are like what is witnessed in this picture I do believe a steady paycheck with a "honorable discharge" still goes a very long way in this Country even if you have to sell your soul for it.

the draft during the Vietnam war is the demarcation line for veterans. now that we are all volunteer there is no more crying about veterans rights. there aren't any. (they have some privileges) the political (and moral) character is 100% different from those previous vets, incl WW2 which was a citizen military. these guys are all mercenary all of the time. unfortunately they are find jobs in law enforcement when their tour is up, (Chris Dorner) but even in Vietnam it was war, and war has rules, these guys from Iraq and Afghanistan and just paid killers. (listen to the Blackhawk tape) neither bush nor obama allows armed troops to meet with them in the field. these are people on psycho meds doing multiple tours. most of the work? is being done by the ARMY, the USMC lost the lead in operations in Iraq, and then they had a rogue incident in Afghanistan, random shooting of locals on the highway. but that's not why they were relieved, that is the militaries role now. the USMC is the more disciplined unit and they don't fit this kind of counter terrorism (murder to counter murder and mayhem) when you watch Apocalypse Now its nearly laughable, the horror! right. these guys all passed Kurtz a long time ago, and the thing you should worry about is that when the US needs some storm troopers these are the guys. all of them should be hospitalized before they are allowed back into society, a great many will never be back, they are permanently broken. this is what happened with our troops coming home from W2 if you remember. (see John Huston, Let There Be Light) there are other hollywood movies which deal with the theme from W2, now we simply give then Antidepressants and send them out into the world, be very careful out there.
You make some excellent points, but you are wrong to generalize "100%." And now that we are more than a decade into it, the mercenary argument is strong. I allow that am biased after nearly 30 years as a citizen soldier in the USMCR. Reserve citizen soldiers carried much of the weight in these stupid, imperialistic, unnecessary wars in southeast Asia. 18 year old kids with no civilian economy options are easy pick'ns, and malleable. Nonetheless, many of them will not end up as storm troopers, but as advocates of liberty. They (we) just might turn the republic in the long run.

Instead of seeing why and what happened that go them in Iraq, tey blame liberals an the poor for the ilur there.
