How to Frontrun an Acquisition... TWC Edition

CrownThomas's picture

About an hour ago, it was announced that Time Warner was going to be acquired by Comcast for ~$159 / share. That's roughly an 18% premium from today's close. Speaking of today's close, some 'smart' analyst must've really nailed this call, getting in just after 3:42pm... hope they #timestamped

Wasn't Charter bidding for these guys? And they kept getting rejected. This seems like a no-brainer, not insider trading.

Pretty soon a Comcast package with ESPN and CNBC will be required with any EBT/Food Stamp card; as well as saluting the flag and a hearty hi-ho Hitler.

On the spectrum of technical problems to solve, insider trading should be a no brainer.  In a world where they can gather every phone number you have ever dialed, trading transaction analysis is a no brainer.

The only issue is want.  They do not want to stop insider trading.

Not a member of the club, I guess

Doesn't AOL get to make a bid?

I think it would be the other way around, Comcast would be buying AOL.  This is consolidation for the triangle club.  Makes it easier and cheaper to deliver the lie.

Note TWC's neat little logo.  It's already part of the club, but now there will be fewer books to cook.

I hope Comcast eats it, they are a POS.  The parent of the vile hater network MSNBC!

Not a lot of fat in Time Warner, inefficient operation huge lame workforce, tons o debt and old gen equipment, they're gonna take a huge Obamacare hit too-whenever it happens.

I'm calling it we've hit "peak cable" cable valuations (people will look back at the broke lame hippy boomer TV generation and cable values and say duh), wireless is going to eat their lunch and Obamacare is the coupe de grace.

Agreed. Especially with the rise of the "Smart TV" now. No need for a cable provider for anything, they have to morph into high speed internet providers or simply go away. With the Smart TV you can just stream content direct from the content provider's sites without any need for optional add-on devices/equipment or programming. Death to the gatekeepers of content and information. Will be awesome to behold.

Already happening in our rural farmhouse in the UK. BT has put "fibre to the cabinet" not far from our door and we're changing our ISP to them next week. Blistering speeds promised:- max 68 download, 20 upload, uncontended, uncapped, £26 per month. Probably the reality will be a bit slower, but still very good. We are buying a box to turn our 2 year old panasonic unsmart TV into a smartTV. We looked at the UK equivalent of cable companies and couldn't see the point. BT offers a free Sport channel bundled with the broadband (we don't watch sport, ever, so can't say whether it's any good.) Within a year after release many good movies are available on Freeview; for the odd one we can't wait to see (perhaps one a month) there's pay-per-view at a low cost. All our DVDs are going on ebay at 1p each starting price. The box will give us unrestricted access to the internet on the TV, plus it will hold all our music, home video and photos. It will back up offsite each night automatically to a backup which itself backsups every 24 hours to another remote location.

A friend of mine locally who runs a small ISP iwill soon be getting fibre to the premises, 100 up and down. He is moving all his kit from the datacentre to his own office except for 1 U which he will keep for a big switch to the 6 pipes he needs.

All the old models are being challenged.

front running an acquisition is only for the clinically insane. ARBRITAGE....RISK ARB actually...but from running a hostile takeover?

that's just stupid to even post.
I mean this deal is for only half the company...185 billion?
this is not an offer to be taken seriously.

great news for Time Warner shareholders and their work force of course.

All hail the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States of America (and especially the dark agent of the NY Federal Reserve Bank) and the US Treasury for their principles and adherence to the Constitution of the Country.

This is Spain .... and it is the early 1930s......... what do you not see or understand?  yes there are new technologies but people are still human beings..... they are flawed ..and the worst is our 'leadership' has lost complete sight of this or do not understand....

Methinks it has begun and no one yet sees what has happened.  see what happened today in Wyoming, Kansas, ......

Okay, I'll bite, what happened in Wyoming and Kansas?  I am guessing that you are referring to the government bullying and jailing some native americans.  Gee, same as it ever was...
