White House: "Weather practically everywhere is being caused by climate change"

Bruce Krasting's picture

So Obama went to California to talk drought and climate change. He brought some cash with him to help the state cope with the water shortage. The Prez is right to be worried about this drought, after all, Cali is 15% of the US economy. The only question is how big the hit to CA/US GDP is going to be.

The President's new plan is have the Ag department come up with $100 million for cattle farmers. There is also $5m for communities that are literally running out of water. So it's 20 to 1 in favor of the cattlemen. Great plan...

As Obama headed west, the White House's Science Assistant, John Holdren, had this to say about the California drought:

"Weather practically everywhere is being caused by climate change"

Really? It's all climate change?

There are many forces that shape weather patterns. One of the most significant is the El Nino/ La Nina cycles. this is what NOAA has to say about the connection between El Nino and rainfall in the South West:

El Niño results in increased precipitation across California and the southern tier of states

elninorain_edited-1

The California drought has persisted for the past three years. It's no coincidence that there have been no El Nino conditions during this time period:

noaadata

The WH has a climate agenda - this is payback for a lot of support (money). Okay, but when the chief scientist at the WH ignores the scientists who actually look at weather patterns, then one is forced to doubt everything the WH says on the topic.

Misdirection By Holdren???

U.S. President Obama gets direction from White House science adviser Holdren during event on South Lawn at White House in Washington

Soft landings are like unicorns: widely believed in, but never actually seen.

add in the overhang of $200T + in unfunded obligations and various limits to growth arguments, along with the unmet 'lifestyle' expectations, and the term 'soft landing' might be like a 1000 yd wide meteor impact seen from space. just a little splash - nothing to see here, no concern...

gotta love the fact that if is doesn't fit with the status quo maintenance narrative, it doesn't exist.

this little episode in human history is nothing more than the present elite trying to see if the rest of humanity can tolerate the rationing necessary to leave the elite sufficient resources to permanently ensconse them.

imagine a boot on a human face, forever...

People throw the term "commie" around far too liberally. My wife and her family lived under the USSR and copped the wrong end of it, so I get a pretty good idea of what "commie" actually means.

In the USA the democrats and republicans are BOTH extreme right wing, authoritarian. There's not a goddamned thing "commie" about either of them when it comes to economic policy, but both of them are very much "commie"-like when it comes to authoritarianism.

Humans suffer from anchoring bias where we all assume that our own positions are balanced and central. So whatever political position a person holds, a person to the left of them is "left wing" and likely to get called a "commie" in a heated moment, despite the fact that both individuals are extreme right wing.

Annoys the shit out of me.

Both parties in the USA are different flavors of Facism. Too bad that term isn't used much any more.

Somehow, in the mind of the American public, Communism and Stalinism have merged into one big bad wolf. The USSR was fundamentally Stalinist but pretended to be Communist because it sounded good, much like we pretend to be a democracy.

Anytime the state becames overwhelming large and powerful you end up with an oppressive and authoritarian system that pretends to work for the public good while actually focused exclusively on increasing the power of the elite.

It's a REPUBLIC of specific design, involving some elements of representation you could call democratic. The founders avoided that term advisedly, as they knew democracies turn tyrannical. We are not supposed to be a democracy, so yeah, let's all stop pretending that, I mean those of us who do he pretending.

and as Jefferson and others said, this trend is innevitable unless there is constant effort against it. We are witnessing how quickly and how evil its transformation can be

A communist would be "pro-Soc. Sec", which BK is DECIDEDLY not.

The comment that caught my eye, was:

"So it's 20 to 1 in favor of the cattlemen. Great plan..."

It's ALL about GDP. Cattle make $$$ and DON'T waste water.

My cure is to build a "Alaska Pipeline/Keystone Pipeline" from the states that CONSISTENTLY flood to the states that are CONSISTENTLY drought plagued.

Maybe someday, when the PROFIT VALUE of water is considered equal to oil.

There really are'nt always cures.  Although cutting all that military spending down by two thirds and redirect it toward infrastructure rather than idioticly wateful bases and militar adventures all over the planet would make sense.

'A communist would be "pro-Soc. Sec", which BK is DECIDEDLY not.'

What? BK regularly posts articles about Soc Sec's dire underfunding.

It's not anti-Soc Sec to point out that promised pensions should be adequately funded.

Actually, it's the politicians who 'looted the Trust Fund in order to save it' who are anti-Soc Sec.

20-to-1 is perfectly reasoned and logical (even if it's corrupt and amoral), the slaves aren't going to flee the plantation, and neither Holdren nor NAMBLA can protect Bathhouse Barry from the BSDs at the NCBA. "Beef. It's What's for Dinner Bitchez. Get used to it."

Speaking of "Bath house Barry", I'm starting to see references to his homosexual past on more MS websites than this.

Wouldn't that be a game changer?

My cure would be to cut through the bureaucratic federal eir process,(something Clinton’s company Teneo boasts of it’s ability to do),in order to build a dike / lock system at the Antioch bridge to eliminate tidal erosion and control the salinity of the Delta region in Central CA.  The delta islands are the result of the gold processing through hydraulic and placer mining and were but swamps prior to the west’s shipping hard currency to NY bankers prior to the establishment of the fed.  The currently  fouled up system was worked out by the US Army Corp of Engineers nearly a century ago and nowhere resembles it’s “original, pristine, natural” appearance at this point, and it’s time we take our stewardship more seriously.  A few million in 2014 valued frns doesn’t even come close to the massive treasures of Au / Ag NY bankers raped this state of.

Imho.

Would you guys please go away now.....we've got this handled. We're freaking on it already!

We're not giving you trillions.....don't even bother to ask.

If so, I congratulate you!
