"All The World Is Green"
I fell into the ocean
When you became my wife
I risked it all aganist the sea
To have a better life
Marie you're the wild blue sky
And men do foolish things
You turn kings into beggars
And beggars into kings
Pretend that you owe me nothing
And all the world is green
We can bring back the old days again
And all the world is green
The fase forgives the mirror
The worm forgives the plow
The questions begs the answer
Can you forgive me somehow
Maybe when our story's over
We'll go where it's always spring
The band is playing our song again
And all the world is green
Pretend that you owe me nothing
And all the world is green
We can bring back the old days again
And all the world is green
The moon is yellow silver
Oh the things that summer brings
It's a love you'd kill for
And all the world is green
He is balancing a diamond
On a blade of grass
The dew will settle on our grave(s)
When all the world is green

Scottyyyyeee, I need more fiat pow-eeer...

Cap'n...the fiat tubes are damaged! I'm trying to bypass the Winklevoss capacitor with millions of bitcoins...but you've guht ta gimme more time!

Scotty, if you don't give me more fiat power NOW, the USS Fonestar will break up into a billion bytes and burn before it ever reaches the surface of Gox star.

Alright then, I'm gonna insert the magnetic strip of a Visa platinum card directly into the bitcoin flow drive, this has never been done before Cap'n...I can't promise it'll work.

What choice do we have Scotty?

Aye Cap'n. Here we go, there will be some credit expansion on your monitors.

Do it Scotty!!!

A couple of thoughts:

"I think I understand how this works." Means put your hands in your pockets and don't touch anything.

"I know how this works." Even more dangerous that "I think."

Wreckless Eric - Take The Cash (K.A.S.H.) (Remastered)
this just in!
here is something interesting that most people
don't think about much. it has been said that
deer "browse" while elk "graze" but the british
call elk "deer". now, that seems quite poetic to
me and in the following context it is just about
enough to blow your mind! speaking of so much to learn.
how wolves change rivers.
it is not that simple and the title is
misleading, still, worth the time and a
testament to the glory and power of life.
........ take the cash, k.a.s.h., w.e. ......
" There´ s a rumour going round says you're gonna split,
they say you're going away, it´s a midnight blitz,
but there´s only good in leaving with a suitcase full of load,
'cause where´s all the good times and the pocket full of I.O.U.s !
Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind,
take the cash before they change their minds,
and let´s see the colour of their money - take the cash !
It´s a secret operation, don´t want this getting out,
so watch it, watch it, watch it, if the payment doesn't bounce,
it´s the sweetness of the ready, makes the bell ring on the tail,
and if they say they pay next week, you know: they never will.
Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind,
take the cash before they change their minds,
and let´s see the colour of their money - take the cash !
And if they try to tell you there´s a cheque in the post,
you know, you know, you know that you can take it as a joke.
Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind,
take the cash before they change their minds,
and let´s see the colour of their money ! wow
It´s a heavy operation, got to do the job and run,
so don´t pretend you trust, and get the money down in front,
'cause it´s the sweetness of the ready, makes the bell ring on the tail,
and if they say they pay next week, you know : they never will.
Take the cash, don´t let them pay you in kind,
take the cash before they change their minds,
and let´s see the colour of their money - - - take the cash !
+ Take the cash - take the K.A.S.H. (repeat 5x+ fade ...)" w.e.

one of those quotes that will be recorded for eternity...

Karpeles himself, while insisting on his own exchange's reliability, has made no secret that bitcoin is, as he told Reuters last April, a "high-risk investment".

"If you buy bitcoins, you should buy keeping in mind that the value could be zero the day after."

He said this and people still bought into it? That's pretty much the best freakin' CYA statement ever. "Caveat Emptor" doesn't even begin to cover the warnings this thing should have received. The US Senate actually had a hearing on BTCs along with many other government groups and failed to act. SHOCKER./not

All I want to know is how much did the guys get away with and are they setting a record? Does this mean "fonestar" is potentially an accessory? Great that the ZH community issued warning after warning on this stuff to anyone who might have been tempted to buy in.

Gox going down is THE Lehman moment for BTC. Since they're not organised and don't have the ability to print to cover, the BTC story is pretty much done. Who in their right mind would still buy into BTC regardless of the exchange?

This guy had better get himself a high priced criminal lawyer. Because if it is true that they were doing business without disclosing that a big chunk of coins went missing, there are questions that will need to be answered. And I would not want to have to answer them in Japan.

Here's another take on this. The entire BTC scam was setup to lure criminal enterprise to deposit their "loot" outside the banking system. Given the background of Silk Road and the history of BTCs infamous success story it could well be this was a very elaborate sting.

Modern day pirates storing their ill gotten gains in the alternative currency that can travel with them no matter where they hide, and it cannot be traced by government.

Other than a minority of preppers, who does BTC mostly appeal to? Even the preppers wouldn't throw all their money into BTC. Not so sure about the pirates. Government didn't have to go look for the loot. They started the program, even lending it credibility with the Silk Road setup and the pirates deemed it trustworthy to deposit their stash. Like Switzerland but better in theory.

Honest investors or depositors are collateral damage in this scenario.

Anyone who is looking at crypto coins as an investment asset class instead of a nascent medium of exchange/payment mechanism, is in for a rude awakening.

And I am pretty sure that people who have sold it as something that it is not, are going to have to worry about lawsuits.

I am pretty sure Reggie is in the can thinking about this right now.

seems to me the fed would want to copy the bitcoin model, the problem with printing cash is that people horde it, hold it, and generally try to hang onto the stuff, and when the Fed wants to print more, or they want to set up funky investment schemes like currency carry trades to prop up the stock market, the old paper gains value. -the only way to run an inflationary policy is actually print more money and then sit back and let nature takes its course, their first policy objective is to keep the money moving (M2 velocity may actually go negative its a big problem) but their second policy objective, pump up the markets is an impossible dream without devalueing those dollars already in print. so end the paper, and just go cyber (and quit promoting dow 36000 for all the hustlers to skim from the game) well i guess i answered my own question.

yeah, man, it's something i wanted to believe in for a while...seemed so good in theory.

but, like Burns said, "all the plans of mice and men gang aft a glee".

or as someone somewhere said, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."

or as the good-ole-boys would say, "that dog don't hunt."

it's all the same either way...the whole crypto-currency thing, even as a medium of exhcange (much less an investment), is rotten to its algorythimic core.

in the final analysis, gold don't glitch.

I laid down a fair amount of change in the day buying Magic cards, Pokemon cards, Digimon, YuGiOh cards, and various stuffed animals from different fads - for my two kids.

Magic the Gathering is quite playable as a table game, as was YuGiOh, but only with your 12 year old because they are having so much fun with it.

I've been mining Litecoin as a curiosity and so I could understand it since I bashed the idea and Bitcoin - figured I ought to figure it out.

Also helped me justify buying some new computer hardware, the tinkering with which keeps me sane.

Uses electricity but generates heat so the gas heat comes on less often.

Thanks, heard similar stories.  Currently using one AMD Radeon card that uses about 150 Watts and runs at 74 degrees Celsius (165 Farenheit) so it's like a small space heater.  Six of those video cards on an open rig would be 990 Watts so just like a ceramic or quartz heater on low - which circulated passively would do quite a bit of warming.  It will be a loss come warm weather but at 5 months I should pay for the card and power and have something left over to play with or sell and have some knowledge.  Not in the budget or my risk tolerance to go whole hog.

Tue, 02/25/2014 - 18:14 | 4477513 tip e. canoe
tip e. canoe's picture

that's the thing eb, with a well-designed crypto platform that actualizes a mass distribution of miners, no one individual needs to go whole hog to make it economically viable.   the key is in designing an algo that incentivizes an energy consumption only up to the point where the waste can be efficiently used elsewhere (home or water heating).

just as a brainfart, consider a combined PoW/PoS coin, where individuals in the Northern & Southern Hemispheres can swap PoW mining duties during the winter months when they can utilize the waste heat for their home, and scale down during the summer, but still provide PoS duties or something or other (less processing, less energy consumption).   bonus, they would never have to deal with Mt.Goxes of the world b/c the fiat-->crypto exchange is via the electric bill.

don't forget, mining is essentially the backbone of a cryptocurrency system, as it provides security for the blockchain, so having as a decentralized security force as possible is a resilient asset.
