Probably too late, gonna be tons of bag holders because of bitScam, Mt Goxster is just the tip. Those who pump this crap on unsuspecting victims are total scum.
I know this has been said over and over, but considering that the general tone of ZH commenters is anti-state/anti-fed, you'd think people would be supportive of a financial vehicle that is outside of the system inasmuch as its value can't be outright controlled, or its quantity be deliberately altered by TPTB. That said, anybody that thinks BTC will be beyond the reach of governments, particularly taxing authorities, or believes that it's "anonymous" is an imbecile. If you view it for what it is: an alternative conveyance of wealth, you're on the mark. As long as it can be easily exchanged for your local currency, it will serve the purpose of money transmission. And once all the BTC are mined, speculation will die down (to PM levels) and the big winners and big losers will be a thing of the past. yet, BTC will still serve its purpose of a relatively instant and relatively free way to pass money around. Governments will get hip to this after a few clumsy regulatory failures, but then will be perfectly content with its use because it won't be possible to stay outside of the system in any meaningful way as long as you have to convert it to your local currency. Even if your electrical utility, McDonalds and mobile provider start taking BTC, it will be tracked like any other transaction, and ultimately traceable. They may not like the inability to control the economy, but as long as they can keep it secondary to their own currencies (and they will, I assure you), it's no threat to the hegemony of the state. So why all the hate? I mean, for reasons other than lack of understanding....
Because it's a scam. What is it with the techies that they cannot see reality? It's like scientists ruminating upon God and clergy upon science. Like politicians saying "Trust me."
"Wake the fuck up" is what is being suggested, I believe. Not it's either good nor bad.... But that its a matter of trust not in the commodity itself, but its basis being upon the net. Meaning it's not "yours" nor entirely "secure" And it's game-able
And not for nothin' but Jim Sinclair would tell you to "Get Out Of The System" because the global financial system is lining up to clean you out. So... why are you defending that system? You should be rooting for BTC and its economy unless your faith is planted firmly in the central banks of the world.
If you keep your natioal currency stash in digital form in a bank (esp in a country like Cyprus), you stand a good chance of losing some or all of it. If you keep your BTC in digital form on an exchange, you stand a good chance of losing some or all of it.
If you keep your national currency in your mattress, or your BTC in a wallet file on a portable usb dongle, you stand a better chance of burglars taking the cash and not looking twice at the thumb drive.
Mark Karpeles aka MagicTux, the ceo of Mt. Gox. He purchased the company from the original founders and is "known" for his php crypto work(which was crap).

That guy is a putz and not because he's fat; it's in his face and demeanor - and that he's sitting on an exercise ball.
Run!

Went to a swapmeet on Saturday. Picked up 5 oz. of silver for $100. Winning.
If it's on the net, even prepherially, it's not yours alone.
