Reddit Censors Big Story About Government Manipulation and Disruption of the Internet
The moderators at the giant r/news reddit (with over 2 million readers) repeatedly killed the Greenwald/Snowden story on government manipulation and disruption of the Internet … widely acknowledged to be one of the most important stories ever leaked by Snowden.
Similarly, the moderators at the even bigger r/worldnews reddit (over 5 million readers) repeatedly deleted the story, so that each new post had to start over at zero.

The extreme sentence sought was clearly meant to "send a message" for Swartz's previous legal activities in support of freedom of information.

And yes, Swartz was a whistleblower in that he fought for freedom of information and the rights of all whistleblowers.

believe what you will, but these people take this stuff way more seriously than you can possibly imagine. i believe they have their red heifers ready to go. all the proper inscense, oils, ornaments other bric-a-brac...fired up!!! ready to go!!!! there are some very important developments that i feel are inevitable. i believe that the mosque on the temple mount will soon be destroyed (it'll be an accident -- i mean Act of God...you can be SURE of that!!!). i see a by-all-means-necessary determination in the eastern most Mediterranean -- and it has ultra-orthodox written all over it.
and then there is this other issue burbling up. china openly threatening the dollar. india and japan's dependence on brent. saudi's 'alleged' approach of the "unit-in-unit-out" petro-death-spiral. a new conciliatory president in iran. russia's advance. our need to sqeeze china in on three fronts in the east (japan/korea/thailand -- and with it our parties in indochin), and divide their forces over an enormous area with some trouble in india. open the spigots in iran, continue to use iraq to make-up for saudi's slide, fuel the war machines in japan & india (and with them and iran defend the petro dollar); we give iran a buffer against russia; blockade and reduce china to near dependence on coal; israel goes down with saudi arabia and streches back for russia as the anglo-empire goes all in for central banking's final and glorious defense; russia sits back and watches for a while.
NATO (read: nordic spare industrial capacity and the euro) get more comfy with the slavs but turn hard against china.
and then we'll start seein a whole buncha different kinda censorship; and it'll be a response to the current censorship.
i'm tellin you, guys...big shit is swirlin...the dollar and the euro and the franc and the CAD and the AUD and the GBP and, godblessoursouls, the JPY/USD mean WAY more to the people who control resources, central banks, and military forces than a temple in jerusalem much less pacts made with bedoins way back when they had oceans of oil. dollar backed assets can never be supported with anything else...and unimaginable things will be done to defend whatever valuations they can. money can only move so fast, and at certain levels, only into a limited few things.

this is a huge story and we're all still "feeling our way through the dark" here. (for example the capture of El Chapo is a victory for cyber "authority"...although he will fight that extradition and will try to run that drug cartel from prison.)
who knows where Francis Sawyer is these days...but it would be nice to know as we feel our way around "into the darkness" that is this new "toy" the entire human race interfaces with (the Internet.) in effect we are interfacing with "ourselves" rather than recognizing the existence of say...having a community and engaging with it.

Reddit is a very good, generally leftward and nerdy crowd who are at least as outraged as ZHer's about the moderators. I highly recommend the site as a news source and also as a giant time wasting source of trivia. They were purchased by Conde Nast in 2006, who left it alone. Until now?

I don't know what Reddit is, however if they do not want certain stories in their system, they have the freedom not to pubish it.
However I expect more from news organizations that advertise they are about letting their readership know what is going on in this world, the good, bad and ugly.
I read the Guardian as it appears to publish what others are afraid to publish, the truth for the most part. North America's MSM is slanted to a certain view and are subjective in their reporting and what they choose to publish, which leaves us ignorant, doesn't it?
well, sure they have the 'freedom' not to publish it - but their platform is to be a premier global aggregate of all things readable. and especially when one of their main features is chat/forums to enable ppl to publically discuss / review materials published online, the allegations in this news item are absolutely relevant if not pivotal to the credibility of reddit and its moderators ethics - which have now been proven very very wanting

Anybody who works for .gov is a welfare recipient - because even if they offer a service that might be purchased on the open market, the terms and conditions attached to their offer involve compulsion and coercion (and ergo the price is a fortiori higher, and the quality a fortiori lower, than a free market would provide).
I am certain that some of the nurses and cooks at Auschwitz were nice to their families and pets, and maybe didn't really believe in broader mission and went home feeling a bit sad at times. But if someone knifed one of them in an attempt to regain their freedom, they would not merit any sympathy: being a cog - however small - in a Death Machine, is a moral crime, and those who do so deserve no support. "But how will I pay my bills?" is not a valid defense, either - they ought to find a job in the private sector and stop being a parasite, and maybe things will turn for the better.
.gov relies on this facile notion that we 'respect' all the 'public servants' - and always using the examples of firefighters, nurses, teachers and so forth, rather than the millions of Little Eichmanns that make up the actual bureaucracy.
As to the firefighters and other such: let them offer their labour in an open market with competition amongst providers on a purely subscription basis, and I will respect the living fuck out of them. But while they wax fat on our taxes, they can all go fuck themselves.
