Could I believe any news speak from News-week? Or blindly follow the words of a shaman or priest? Maybe that's why ancient folks destroyed their records and wisdom. Shrouded in mystery, truth is stranger than fiction.

Note the oft repeated underlying message:  If you distrust govt, you're eccentric, an odd ball.

He distrusts govt so much that either he picked out NSA cryptography and other hackable cryptography or he was content to keep his mouth shut when others did.

SHA-256 is NSA designed and the NSA does NOT release cryptography into the wild without a backdoor.

SHA-256 and RIPEMD160 are hackable:

The story reads like the ridiculous piece done on the Navy Seal that supposedly killed Bin Laden -- 'we can't name him, let's call him Jim'.    It was so stiff and unbelievable (which makes sense as it was fiction).

So Satoshi really IS his name???  But then remained elusive for all these years???   And Newsweek tracked him down but won't say where he is or show his picture???  uh huh.

Has this fantasy world created by the media always been so obviously fake?  do they just rely on the willingness of the population to be lied to?

Btw WB that is the best I've ever seen Ayn Rand look - I thought it was Amelia Earhart!

if ben bernanke were bill gates he would buy out BTC and trash their technology in order to maintain a monopoly with his own (cyber money printing software) their problem is things are backwards, the feds cyber currency is pure collateral, it has no transactional value, and only banks have it. BTC has both transactional and asset value, or investment value and its available to individuals, but not so much to banks. which confuses the issue. if i were them i would want a purely transactional currency for all debts private, and a purely collateral currency for the banks, but that implies that banks hold all collateral. i've thought for a while that there should be two markets in the us currency, one for hard dollars and the other for investment dollars, and there would an exchange rate between them. the fed would hate this, because anyone could see how much phony collateral is in the market at any moment, and the more Fed collateral dilutes that market the greater the value of the hard currency becomes. paper would be as good a gold.

Is that a camera strapped to his shoulder?  Old school, I like it, bet he is wearing a Seiko wristwatch too.

If he was born in 1949 he's 64 or 65, and ready to retire.

Of course, if he cashed in his Bitcoin he'd pop up on the I.R.S. radar, but how much of your retirement needs can you buy from Overstock.com?

I have trouble believing that someone creating a crypto currency would use their real name versus an avatar.

Still, if it is him, being descended from Samurai and a Buddhist Monk for a Father adds to the mythos.

Litecoin value has rebounded in the past day or two considerably.

So Bitcoin is his way of getting rich without the Evil Empire he worked for grabbing his Federal Reserve Notes through taxation and currency debasement.

Yep. I read the newsweek article (a first for me). Satoshi's described as very paranoid, yet there's him posing for a picture? Unless they managed to get it from someone else...also, if you were really careful, would you bother to post "dangerous" code with your real name. OK, OK he changed his name to Dorian S. Nakamoto, but not much of a leap there. And "Dorian", either he's a fan of Oscar Wilde (The Picture of Dorian Grey) or he just likes fruity English names. Either way...

At any rate, the development timings are, ahem, more than a little coincidental. As fas as life goes, it's not your money, stocks, bit-whatevers or even PMs that might keep you alive in case of crash, but your family, friends and your own real skills that will ensure your survival.

So I guess that you worship Satan-shi as the Streets of Heaven are paved in Gold. I think that you are confused as you believe Hell to be Heaven and Heaven to be Hell.

Do you want a Hell without Gold? That will be served right on up for you. The problem for you, which you must face, is that there is a God. The Mathematical odds are overwhelming.  Your sacrilege will condemn you.

Now, as a caveat, you do have a chance, which amounts to being a little bit, a smidgeon, over that of an Infinitesimal. But winning the Jackpot of the PowerballTM Lottery is TRILLIONS of times more likely than that. And I do not suggest that the Lottery is a viable Retirement Plan anymore than I would suggest that atheism. or Mammonism, is a viable afterlife plan.

Wagering on longshots is a loser's game. (I prefer wagering upon certainties, myself.) So keep on worshiping your "Savior" and you will reap that which ye have sown...DESTRUCTION.

I'm not going to downvote you Banzai.  Got too much respect for ya' and I know where you are coming from with that picture.

However, one bit of caution.  Say what you will about Ayn Rand...( and I used to be a disciple...but no more )...she valued the ability of makers and producers every bit as much as she hated takers and parasites both from the prols and the pols.

And although BitCoin sticks it to the "Man" in terms of not being able to skim off the top of those transactions...(at least not until BitCoins were exchanged for dollars)...I think it does not follow in her spirit the fact that there is no real creation or production involved in BitCoin mining.  Simply double-clicking an icon and letting your over-achieving calculator (computer) do math for you.  The only real producer was Satoshi.  Everybody else is simply a icon clicking drone.  That doesn't seem worthy of Rand's memory or philosophy.

Just my two cent's worth....or Bitcoin for that matter.

Thu, 03/06/2014 - 16:23 | 4518410 RevCBH
RevCBH's picture

Jumbo, I've got to respectfully disagree with your assertion that Satoshi is the only real producer here. To stick with the Rand theme, think of Rearden Metal in Atlas Shrugged. Sure, it was Reardon's genius that brought it into the world, but the honest workers in his plants were by no means parasites. Similarly miners, especially early miners, invested time, money, and technical expertise to build and operate their machines. They continue to produce real value, actual output, even though it's one of the least understood parts of Bitcoin and similar currencies.

The fundamental value in bitcoin is as a perfect system of accounting which doesn't require trust in central parties. Although not as revolutionary, it has paralelles to Galt's motor in AS; it helps to disempower the leaches and moochers who thrive by exploiting central locuses of control. As the motor pulls energy from the ambient environment, Bitcoin's blockchain generates global consensus from a completely distributed set of miners. This has never been possible before.

Galt's gulch will likely never exist as originally envisioned; physical space is too hard to defend against overwhelming force. If the gulch appeals to you, not as a vacation destination, but as a means by which free individuals work with whomever they choose and on their own terms, then Bitcoin is very much in the spirit of Rand and the miners are the bedrock upon which that world is built.

Jumbotron's picture

"Sure, it was Reardon's genius that brought it into the world, but the honest workers in his plants were by no means parasites."

But that's my point.  The workers at the plant actually PHYSICALLY worked, to produce something PHYSICAL.  No one clicked an icon an expected to get paid.  Neither could anyone come in and secretly take your work away.

Look at the value of Bitcoin another way.  1,000,000 years of human evolution and labor and not one year out of them all was Bicoin ever a factor.  And 1,000,000 years after Bitcoin has come and gone as well as all the usable cheap energy that makes the magic of techonology (as Bitcoin is a product of ) has all been depleated....physical labor and physcial metal will still be at the apex of value and worth.

Except for this brief blip in time in which the perfect combination of abundant, cheap energy and innovation came together, the value of physical labor and craftsmanship and hard currency has and will never change.

Stayed tuned.  That fact will become clearer and clearer every year particularly after the year 2020.

Yeah, but if robotics continues to advance, why will anybody business owner need any human beings for physical labor?  Yeah, maintain robots and do stuff, but change is-a-coming.

Of course you're right.  BTC is a pump-and-dump just the same as the S&P 500.  Smart money gets in low and then yo-yo's it up and down skimming off profits all along the way.

And just like in the 1920s, when that banker got a stock tip from his shoeshine boy he knew the market was at a top.

When grocery store clerks are buying BTC, it's time for it to fall.

Same as  it ever was!

I think she (Ayn) would dig Bitcoin.   "Satoshi" just wrote a white paper.  Others put effort into in devleoping the technology.  And many others use their capital to invest in mining equipment which makes the whole system work.  The fact that bitcoin cannot be inflated by the statists is something she would admire.

"Fonestar is my Bitch" - Satoshi

"I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it," he told her. "It's been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now. I no longer have any connection."

*

Well its all true, he's no longer involved, and he's turned it all over to the people running the show, remember he did most of this work in 1997, he's SO-CAL, probably worked for the RAND-CORP, or JPL, all NSA/CIA contractors.

That's exactly what your supposed to say, neither deny, or say anything. Calling the cop's is exactly what you do. When your on the NSA list as an asset, as soon as the call when out with his name the entire system was activated that he was compromised, and then the cleaners step in.

Of course this is all  designed release, somebody pretty much GAVE this is NewsSpeak.

He's very much part of the system, that's why he called the cop's cuz he KNOWS the cops are on his side.

*

If he was any thing other than a 'golden' protected NSA boy, then he would have left the USA.

Also this BULLSHIT about 6-kids over&over,... that's totally suck   up to the MORMON clan that run the NSA.

It's same as the ZIO- code "He's a GOOD MAN", ... think LIeberman.
