All You Need to Know About Ukraine

Freaking Heck's picture

By: Chris Tell at http://capitalistexploits.at/

A politician is a material incarnation of the absolute worst of human nature. Look around you, it's self-evident. Basic human nature is to survive. Once that is accomplished and we become comfortable, extremes in behaviour can develop. If you're a typical politician those extremes normally manifest as unchecked ego and unbridled power. A bad combination!

Putin is many things, but stupid isn't one of them. Yes he is dangerous, yes he is power hungry, but show me a politician that is not. Again, politics is where the worst of human nature congregates, like flies to shit. Russian Pipeline network in Ukraine

Russian Pipeline network in Ukraine

Take a look at the map above. It tells you all you need to know about why Ukraine is in the cross-hairs of the world's super powers. It is about the Russian pipeline network that feeds Europe, plain and simple. Ukraine is, as you can see, a pretty damn important piece in the Russian energy distribution network.

This has nothing to do with Russians in Ukraine. "Brother Vlad" would gun those "countrymen" down in a heartbeat if they threatened his pipelines. He'd then return to his morning tea without a second thought. "Pass the toast Alina." Oh, and unless you have been drinking the western media Kool Aid, the Brits and Yanks would do the same. This isn't a cultural issue, it's a matter of ECONOMICS, POWER AND POLITICS.

The 64 million dollar question now is how far will the delusional, intellectually bankrupt "gentlemen" that inhabits the White House push this with Putin..?

Obama's foreign policy is a joke. The decisions coming out of this administration are nothing short of BRAIN DEAD. Imposing sanctions on Russia only serves to push Putin into a corner. If he backs down now he loses credibility, which means he can't, as it would be political suicide.

I cannot fathom what the Obama administration thought they would get out of imposing sanctions, other than further alienating the Russians and endangering millions upon millions of people in the region.

Did they really think Putin would roll over and say "Sorry gee, you know what you're right."?

Did they really think that the Europeans, who by the way Russia has by the balls (via control over the flow of natural gas), would see it in their best interests to follow the US and antagonize the hand that feeds them?

Did they really think that China would back them up on this one?

The US's "allies" and "friends" have not suddenly and mysteriously disappeared. This is the real price of the NSA spying.

The US has the world's largest , most sophisticated military. Spending on its military ($683.7B) alone is greater than the entire GDP of Afghanistan ($33.7B), where they have been unable to suppress the restless locals.

Antagonizing China and Russia is a dangerous game. One misstep and we could have WWIII on our hands, which would be most unfortunate.

- Chris

"If one looks at the map of the world, it's difficult to find Iraq, and one would think it rather easy to subdue such a small country." - Vladimir Putin

I see somebody still believes elected politicians in the US control our foreign policies! Replace Obama with Hillary Clinton or any of the Republican fools who would challenge her and we'd be in the same pile of shit. Why? Because unelected people, many of whom are not even Americans, decide what we do, where we do it, and when.

Yes, and the U.S. and the West have lost all legitimacy with the "financial crisis" engineered by the banksters in collusion with the FED and CONgress and other lackey politicians.

Not only are they fucking over their own citizens, but by extension attempting to fuck over every hard working individual and family the world over.

Rot in hell you greedy mammon lusting Satan worshippers!

Why would Russia want control over the pipelines, if they can shutdown the gas at the tap? What's the point?

"In essence, this is a war between the big companies to control the energy deposits. The biggest barrier now are the state-controlled giants in Russia and China and neoliberalism is trying to conquer these countries. The Western companies have declared war against companies like Gazprom, as they seek to control all the energy deposits, but in this case things are not so easy. The neoliberal model that opens the road for the Western capital, has to face now, two superpowers. "

Real Reason for the Russian Invasion of Ukraine- it was sold.

Thats right! US and Europe are both in on it. So is Israel.  Why should there be an intermediary between Russia and Europe skimming the money that shoud inure to the Europeans in the form of lower gas payments.

$19 Billion was a down payment.

Where is the outrage?  Where is NATO?

The relationship between Russia and the Ukraine is complicated.   Here is a good article that you should all read:

Except it was already owned by Russia as everyone in Crimina is Russian. The reason for the Russian move is to prevent the southern Ukraine, Facists from trying to take over Cremina.  The Article is right, and Obozo is brain dead. Your theory is incorrect. Obozo used NGOs to stir up riots in order for payback over Syria. Syria was a battle over  running pipelines into the EU for NatGas as the EU is nearly completely dependant on Russia for NatGas. Same thing with Cyrpus as Russia used Cyprus for offshore banking was another attack on Russia. Virtually everything the US foriegn polcy does is now an attack on Russia.

You might not like the way he puts it, but he is right on the mark.  Obama has been caught with his pants down and instead of pulling them up he is parading his dumbass around spouting off threats that he cannot back up and only risk the lives of innocent people for political swagger for the sob's in DC and the Kremlin that the average person could care less about.

We are tired of power struggle bs that benefits no one and only divides the common man from living his life in peace.  Gov's purpose is to serve its people and it only takes about 10 min for a gov to forget that mandate and use the people to serve itself.  That is why we were given a second amendment, to protect ourselves from the  self-serving pricks that take over the government.

The Ukraine thing is an asset grab plain and simple.  To be able to control the energy for that region of the world.  You find me a high school in this liberal, commie, watered down public school system that is teaching that, and I will kiss your ass.  They are being told whay  you obviously believe that this is somehow a struggle by the Ukrainian people for "freedom".....please!  The only thing that makes me want to puke more is when I think of that bastard George Bush saying it about the Iraqui people and the bs he pulled over there.

You need to wake up.

Believe what you want but it is about the 20 billion in gold and that is all.

Certain vendors in the US/UK (JPM) could not cover the paper to physical because they have over sold it by tens of thousands to one.

To keep clients and the economy flowing and believing the circus, they invade, steal the gold and are able to deliver to clients.

Where is all of Iraq's gold? Afghanistans gold? Libyas gold? etc etc etc

I am sure they wanted the gold, but since they already got the gold, why continue to stir up the hornet nest? Venezuela would have been a better target since it has about 200 Tons of Gold, the Ukraine only had about 40 tons of gold.  FWIW: 40 tons of gold is not 20 Billion its only about $1.6 Billion. The US spent $5 Billion to overthown the Ukraine gov't.

Best strategy is to open the floodgates of natural gas exportation to Europe. Unfortunately, we can't compete on price with Russia due to the expense of shipping natural gas versus using a pipeline. But the US can make natural gas available for export which will remove the threat Russia has over Europe. I'd never want to see US troops in the Ukraine, and it would be far less expensive to provide incentives to US distributors to export  natural gas.

Better idea, have Germany put up or shut-up. If Mutti dislikes Russia's policies and position on Ukraine so much and they prefer Americans which want to spy on her underwear draw then why doesn't the German govt require and German private industry and consumers to no longer buy Russian energy? While they're at it, let's see the UK stop buying Russian coal also, given they so passionately want EU free-dumb for Ukraine as well. I bet they don't.

The problem here is Europe is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that it is being subordinated by Russia. The EU can not do anything effective to ultimately prevent this. Russia is going to run the European 'Barter-Town' and not Brussels or Berlin.

Brussels (apparently) will learn the hard-way that it's the equivalent of an annoying piss-head down in the bar and not the publican who's receiving the contents of his wallet every night.

Um, gotcha. It shouldn't take us more than, say - a decade - to build out the pipeline infrastructure, LNG terminal infrastructure and shipping infrastructure to supplant Russian gas with US shale gas. Oh, wait - by then shale will be in decline and we can't export anything?

Nevermind then.

Not to mention, the US is still a net importer of petroleum and NG.  Even the rosiest projections don't have us not importing petroleum and NG, and those rosy estimates don't include the insanely fast depletion rates in the recently-developed domestic sources.  The yield from fracking has already plateaued.  From here, it goes down, no matter how fast new wells are drilled.

So talk of exporting NG to Europe to sidestep Gazprom is just silly talk-radio wishful thinking.

It amazes me that this conversation has to take place in a thread that is not, in its title, about LNG/oil.

Those threads attract the flame wars and the number of up votes for a comment like yours and those above you would be inverted in a thread titled around oil/LNG (I agree with you btw).

And this site has changed slowly, then all at once since it was sold to the new Tylers.

One has to ask, 'What about the rest of the pipes running through western Ukraine?' The new coup established government could surely stop the flow through those. Of course that would be war from Putin immediately. I think this gives Putin a legitimate opportunity to flex his muscle. The West has been trying to push him around, especially in Syria. Putin is right. The West started the revolution in Ukraine - and Syria. Putin has bee forced to draw his own "red" line. Does anybody think this one is drawn with the same indelible ink as The Equvicator in Chief occupying the Oval Office? We will surely find out.
