janus is happy to announce that it is, once again, story-time. so, settle in, and let the fun begin.
this all started last weekend. there i was, driving along at a safe but expeditious speed, chatting idly away with the lead guitarist from the Police (not the BPD, mind you, the other Police)...this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Summers
wouldn't you know it, janus just happened to have his copy of nabakov's "lolita" sitting right there on the front passenger seat. here's the thing: i never solicit autographs -- it's a low and tacky enterprise, chasing signatures. even so, this was far too cool a coincidence to pass up. the guitarist from the band that sang
has signed the front copy of janus's "lolita"...no tellin what that'll someday be worth. automatic collector's item -- i predict a sotheby's auction price in the high seven-figures (i'm establishing provenance right now).
then the janus-phone starts squealing away with peel after peel of annoying racket. my mother-in-law? my mother in law!
we've known each other for quite some time, and so she's no doubt aware of my allergy to annoyance, especially if she's in any way party to it. and to call, over and over and over (and over), when it's clear that i'm trying to establish an hypoallergenic environment is simply intolerable -- it's not the kind of thing civilized people do. but she's cajun, and so i try and remain broad-minded and sympathetic.
"somebody better be bleeding...alot!" sez janus, in hopes his mother in law would learn some sort of lesson from all this redialing madness.
my mother in law was huffing away in hysterics and hyperventilating in palpitative histrionics. it took me a moment to interpret the wrenching staccato of wails, the broken bits of panic, anger and despair along with the overall jist of what had so upset her.
i promised my mother in law i'd call right back, hung up, said some fond farewells to mr. & mrs. summers, and then did dutifully call her back.
it seems massachusetts state child affairs had stormed into our house. we are, apparently, 'neglectful' parents, and, at the end of the day, we could have one or more of our children taken away...the process has just begun.
let me fill you in on the background here, as it's germane to the situation at hand. my middle son had come down with a case of strep throat; through cutaneous contact, it later spread to his arm...the staph that causes the strep...which caused a bit of an infection. it wasn't mild, but it wasn't severe either (he had no temperature, indicating the infection wasn't systemic).
now, we took him to the doctor anyway. BIG MISTAKE!!! just to be on the safe-side...you know, to be responsible. anyway, the doctor in question didn't appreciate the fact that my wife preferred to treat the infection with oregano oil and other natural antibiotics. this doctor made it very clear that she took such initiative and interest in treatments not officially sanctioned by the medical-industrial-complex as a personal affront. my wife kindly insisted on treating it her way, anyway.
two visits every other day followed. my son was greatly improving. everything was fine. until my family was, once again, reminded what it means to be an american in the 21st century.
on the morning of the third visit, my wife overslept...not from neglect. she had to work till one a.m. to begin with, and to end it all she lost her keys for several hours...not arriving home till early in the morning. she was asleep in the same bed with the son she was so 'neglecting' at the time the brownshirts came pounding at the door (literally POUNDING).
they aggressively stormed into the house, one of them (almost certainly a dyke, doubtlessly childless, bristling with 'authority' and just brimming with all the certainty of maslow's 'hierarchy of needs' and other such hogwash from her adventures in sociology) actually got in my wife's face and threatened her...invading her space and pushing her around. the boorish communist swine.
my wife was threatened with losing custody of our son if she did not immediately take him to the emergency room and submit to any and every treatment they insisted upon.
she had very little choice.
at the emergency room, some dull-eyed doppleganger of a doogie houser came striding into the room, gave my son's arm a cursory glance, and then pronounced -- in a squeaky and adolescent voice -- it (the infection) a life threatening situation....meaning that all and every necessary 'precautions' must be taken to save the limb and life. even though it was clearly just a topical infection.
nevertheless, my wife was threatened with the loss of custody and told that an investigation was now being launched against us...for 'neglect'.
without even running tests on the infection to identify the type and validate susceptibility (what kind of anti-biotic a bacteria responds best to), my son was administered a massive, broad-spectrum dose of vandomycin (which is the stongest (and a very dangerous) antibiotic known....for a topical staff infection.
needless to say, my son had an extreme allergic reaction to the medication, couldn't breath for a while, turned bright red (my wife was told that this was because the anti-biotic was working so well that all the dead bugs were coming to the surface...do they really think we're imbeciles?)...and had to be given an IV of benadryl.
he was then immediately transferred to another hospital in a larger city. fortunately, there were there more competent doctors and nurses. who clearly saw that we were the very opposite of neglectful and told the child services people as much. it also then came back that the infection was exactly as we said, a staff infection; and was in no way systemic.
and here's the really creepy part. the doctor at clinic that initially reported us knew this. she had test results back verifying this. we tried all weekend to get in touch with her so that she could send her results in; so that my son didn't have to be treated with these extreme-case anti-biotics; that she in-fact had susceptibility results back as well, and knew what the standard treatment should be...she deliberately withheld the test-results, and she wouldn't return calls, even though her office was open on saturday. even though she was doing this all (supposedly) from concern for my middle son. even though it was becoming clear to all that she'd simply suffered a bruised ego, thought it her prerogative to teach us a lesson about having our own ideas about health, and was willing to utilize the mechanisms of state to punish us for our inconceivable (even though it was accidental) disregard of her 'authority'.
fuck that cunt. fuck massachusetts, fuck d.c.. i no longer have any respect for any of the 'good people' that still work for any governmental entity. what just happened to my family happens every day, especially if you're poor. this country has been finished for quite some time, and i just keep trying to convince myself otherwise; and every time i think there's something worth salvaging, i get reminded, in a very spectacular fashion, how depraved and wicked is this government.
dear President Putin, i would not object nor judge if you sent DC the bestest present the American People could ever receive...i can't but imagine we'd name a national holiday in your honor. old people would cast aside their walkers and canes, leap from hoverounds and dance into the night; fair maidens would swoon (swoon! i tells' ya!) with a single submarine fleet you could solve 2/3rds of our problems. i, janus, would write an admiring account of your courage in liberating the world from this plague-ridden disease centered in DC.

funny thing is, i answered that i would not participate in nuclear warfare on my MEPS document...that kept me from playing around with lots of cool stuff...they want real psychopaths for the fun stuff...anyway, i've now changed my mind -- i now see the benefit, and, if i dare say, benevolence of nuclear weapons. i won't take the legal step of actually 'advocating' the launch of nuke-tipped icbms at DC, but, again, i wouldn't really object to it, either.
this is just so far past orwellian...hell, the only thing you can now call it is an obamination.
i suppose my massachussetts adventures are nearing an end...probably my american phase as well. i reckon it's time to figure a way off this giant gulag.
it's difficult to make this funny in any way...i'm just physically sick over it all. this country is truly over...it's done. it's not 'coming'...it's here.
and so i must apologize to so many of you...for so long i thought simply imprisoning them would suffice...but, well, i suspect most of you're right...i think you all may have something with this guillotine idea. i now cast my lot with the guillotiners.

The New York Police Department attempted to harness Twitter to drum up support today, but things haven't exactly gone as planned. Earlier today, the official NYPD Twitter account asked followers to tweet photos of themselves with NYC police officers under the hashtag #myNYPD — but so far, many users have jumped on that hashtag to flood it with images of police aggressively apprehending apparent suspects. While it's hard to say if the force used in many of the pictures tagged with the #myNYPD hashtag is justified or not, the overall sentiment is clearly one in defense of citizens against an overly brutal police presence. as a consumer of mass entertainment, i recall the work of Joseph Wombaugh, whose novels emphasize the vulnerability and humanity of the LAPD. that was before the department became the final destination of PTSD cases from Iraq. well maybe if they made movies like the New Centurions, then cops on the street would emulate the model (and the criminals as well) if i believe in the mass media (anymore) and its power to change things for the better, (!) by showing a way of life we can all accept, whether we are cops or criminals. the only rational conclusion is that the country is far more divided than it was half a century ago.

"...The story is fantastic. The alleged hijackers were barely five-and-one-half feet tall, and weighed in the low 100 pounds range. The pilot, Chip Burlingame, was a large, muscular, military-trained weight lifter and boxer. Yet, he supposedly gave up his pilot’s seat, failed to take a few seconds to squawk the hijack code, and shambled meekly to the back of the plane at the orders of four small men carrying implements for opening packages – none of whom could even fly Cessnas.
Unsurprisingly, the calls reported by Ted Olson could not possibly have happened. One of North America’s most notable scientists, Dr. A.K. Dewdney, proved in a series of experiments in 2003 that cell phone conversations from airliners would be extremely unlikely above 1,000 feet. Dewdney found that the maximum altitude for getting even the briefest cell phone connection was 7,000 feet – the same altitude cited by the Straits Times and London Daily Mail as the absolute limit for cell connections.
Yet, while Olson was supposedly talking to his wife on the “hijacked” plane, Flight 77 was, according to the official flight path, cruising at 35,000 feet! The plane said to be Flight 77 did not descend to 7,000 feet until 9:29 a.m., just a few minutes before the first explosion at the Pentagon.
The claim that Barbara Olson called her Bush administration husband from hijacked Flight 77 is not just false; it is preposterous." ...

Nope, he thought he got a great deal from the guy in the 1st seat who also happens to be a dealer for a junk car sales yard. The 1st guy said he would throw in a holiday villa at Fukushima if the 3rd guy signs up for the flying car they're in. But both parties are happy with the deal.

On my MAC laptop I shrink the screen of the Banzai picture until I can see it in its entirety. A side effect is that the font gets very smal. But after I see the picture I set the font back to where it was.
war is only inevitable when we secretly desire it be so...or allow those who secretly desire it be so to make it so.
of course "someone else always pays." Just ask Wall Street. This is their recovery, yes, yes? "bought and paid for by the taxpayer" no less?!!!!!
So just who is moving the chess pieces on the board again? You might "feel" like they're your hands...even though you know you don't have four hands...let alone four arms..."but our eyes give us the feeling that those our our hands doing the moving" so we simply accept that "what we are feeling" as true and move along.
But in fact "we" are being moved along are we not?
One would do well to question one's "feelings" on all matters in my view for there is no greater deception than to allow your self to be the deceived...especially on matters even you know are obviously untrue. There is always rhetoric of course...but one must not argue with one's "self." There is truth...it does exist...and normally it works UPON us, not "within" us. No less than the those expert at rhetoric understand "for the lie to work it must contain truth" for once a "total lie" becomes a "total untruth" then you wind up only "arguing" with those you agree with in the first place.
And "just like that" the moves on the chessboard you never questioned as "your moves" suddenly do indeed become "your moves." Or in this case "your move."
They are having one heck of a time painting Putin as the new evil boogie monster, particularly since most Americans identify with Putin more than Obozo.
An ass clown in a golf cart versus the slavic version of Cabela Man...
No kidding, but it matches and I love that pic. So many crazy things are about to come together and I think it will knock our country down and we may not be able to get back up.
On the golf thing: As much as he plays and the access to game improvement equipment and teachers, if he isn't close to a scratch golfer by now we have a problem. Most people who can't get better at golf make the same mistakes over and over again. If you can't learn properly from your mistakeswhat are doing trying to run the world?
I'm not sure if it my computer settings, but these pictures always get covered up by the Ran Squack box on the right. Kind of ruins the whole effect. You eithe rneed to kill the Ransquak box, etc. or Banzai needs to start sizing these to fit the website.
It's a website design problem. There is no solution til they fix it, happens with any resolution monitor (if you have a very large monitor like a 27" or more you might not notice the problem due to the sheer size but it is resolution independent), just unzoom to see the full picture and zoom back to be able to read the text. A pain on a laptop or desktop, a royal pain on a tiny smartphone. BTW, I use FF browser.
Attn Webmaster, please fix the sidebar problem. I know you can do it. Pictures should be pushed below the sidebar or something.....
I love Japanese wood block prints, and I had to browse through a bunch before I decided on this one for this subject/moron. You can see how the wood block colors used influence my own color mixing preferences.

It's under the Moe hair. He's got the special one with 2 meat balls in the middle.

Wall Street's latest sucker: Your hometown

On my MAC laptop I shrink the screen of the Banzai picture until I can see it in its entirety. A side effect is that the font gets very smal. But after I see the picture I set the font back to where it was.
A minor aggravation.
In addition to zooming the screen view in or out, you can click the printer friendly option above.
I am pleased to report that my new blog site automatically adjusts across all device platforms, desktop, tablet and phone: www.wb7.hk
war is only inevitable when we secretly desire it be so...or allow those who secretly desire it be so to make it so.
of course "someone else always pays." Just ask Wall Street.
I'm seriously starting to think you're a computer algorithm designed to melt neurons
Is the moron moron moron sung to the same tune as the Do ron ron?
WB maybe it should be the Moronin???
The 47 Moronin...
Plus sucker in the 3rd seat. Probably thinks he's in a flying golf cart.
No kidding, but it matches and I love that pic. So many crazy things are about to come together and I think it will knock our country down and we may not be able to get back up.
I picture the whole planet...

good and good for you.
He is not a scratch golfer, he is an asshole.
If he just spent all of his time on the links, maybe the economy would be more like it was under Eisenhower???
Oh, I forgot, back then the Federal Gov't did not try to manage everything.
I'm not sure if it my computer settings, but these pictures always get covered up by the Ran Squack box on the right. Kind of ruins the whole effect. You eithe rneed to kill the Ransquak box, etc. or Banzai needs to start sizing these to fit the website.
Other options are to click on the picture, or right-click and open in a new tab/window.
Hold down "Ctrl" key and tap "-" key twice to widen view and see the whole image.
Hold down "Ctrl" key and "0" (zero) to return to default web page size.
Hold down "Ctrl" key and "+" to zoom in or make the viewing size zoom or larger.
I want you to go out there and kill all the gofers!
I love Japanese wood block prints, and I had to browse through a bunch before I decided on this one for this subject/moron. You can see how the wood block colors used influence my own color mixing preferences.
The wood blocks come out beautiful in print.
"Amerikan Samurai" is beautiful!
Sorry if the question is stupid, but does the writing on the flags say something pertinent?
thanks, William!
It is an old wood cut print (circa 1800s).
The artist is Utagawa Yoshitaki and the flag probably identifies the subject, a Kabuki actor.
http://ukiyo-e.org/artist/utagawa-yoshitaki
Many of the artists back then did Samurai, Geisha and Kabuki actor portraits.
Great post Banzai. I love those woodblock prints...something about them that is enthralling, enticing and yet realistic.
The amount of planning and work that goes into making one is incredible as well.
