China to Surpass USA as World’s Largest Economy THIS YEAR

George Washington's picture

Financial Times reports:

The US is on the brink of losing its status as the world’s largest economy, and is likely to slip behind China this year, sooner than widely anticipated, according to the world’s leading statistical agencies.

This is – rightly – front page news (hat tip to Drudge for the headline):

But this is not entirely surprising.

As we reported in April 2012, leading Chinese economic analyst (and American ex-pat) professor Michael Pettis argued in 2011 that China’s GDP might already higher than America’s in terms of purchasing power parity.

And we noted that Arvind Subramanian – former assistant director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund, and now senior fellow jointly at the Peterson Institute for International Economics – says that China passed up the USA in 2010.

Almost every production hub city in the US lies in ruins...

That's a completely ridiculous statement. Why for example, look at Detroit. Oh...yeah...never mind.

By the end of the decade, looking at Detoilet might cause you to turn into a pillar of salt.

Or into a believer in HB.

Most nuclear wars last only about 15 minutes, or so I've heard.

After that, all the production facilities are radioactive rubble.

nuclear weapons are overrated.  they can destroy cities for a short period but not the vast countryside

Groundbursts and salted nuclear weapons will do quite nicely to trash / area denial the vast countryside.

Depending on how long you want the ground uninhabitable you use Cobalt, Zinc, Tantalum or Gold in descending order of half lives.

what if they miss the city and hit the countryside?

5 GT of bombs over 150 million km^2 land area, implies about one 15 KT weapon for 500 km^2.  the 15 KT hiroshima bomb temporarily destroyed about 5 km^2.  you're gonna need a hell of a lot more bombs to destroy the countryside.  and there aint enough uranium, so u'd have to use advanced plutonium methods that dont exactly exist at the moment.

This whole argument seems suspect.  I'm not sure that nuking or not nuking farms will win any war.  Manufacturing areas, well now........

Doesn't even have to go nuke. Conventional smart weapons could levelize the production playing field rapidly. China could retaliate and seriously damage our capabilities in a space war without even spilling blood. It's hard to imagine the U.S. Military functioning without satellites. The scenarios are frightening, which is why I'm unable to go along with those wishing the monetary collapse would hurry up and come. I can wait a few days.

Don't worry Boobus. There won't be any satellites because the cascade failure will occur and we won't be able to launch anything into the debris. We won't be driving as much though so McWalnalds will be shrunk and moved within walking distance. We won't be shipping as much so the cows will be moved to the parking lot.

Science will save us though because I invented "Mister Butcher" an automated one-cow-at-a-time robotic butcher. You march the living cow to the inlet and out the other end comes foam backed beef packs and burger patties.

Most of the waste is fed to talapia for fish sticks. The McRib will be back for good!

"George Washington" must have forgotten to blame this on Bush, like the he does for just about everything else that happens during the Obowel Movement......

Well China believes Obama may have damaged their relationship with his last visit.  They are not happy.

mla: "we know China GDP is hugely inflated"

Last I heard the US GDP may also be hugely inflated as any growth since 2000 is pretty much down to the Greenspan-Bernanke debt-fuelled ponzi and the Bush-Obama Keynesian kool-aid bonanza.
