When I lived in Europe I noticed the disparity between what was seen in the metropoles of finance and tourism versus the rest. I am sure the disparity now is accute verging on ugly.
I doubt it has reached Detroit proportions...yet.

This second part is for the body count ghouls who profess to understand humanity intricately yet cordon themselves off from it by gender or the God given rights of all humanity: He killed half his victims with a blade (all three of his roomates were male, George Chen, 19, Cheng Yuan Hong, 20, and Weihan Wang, 20) not a gun. Then he killed two ladies with a gun (Katherine Cooper, 22, and Veronika Weiss, 19). The he shot Christopher Martinez, 20 inside a deli. For the anti-gun ghouls thats 3 bladed weapons and 3 with a gun. Are knives next? For the hysterical feminist ghouls, thats 4 males & 2 females on that body count. Get the fuck over yourselves.
He was a punk raised by idiots into the adult he became and if there would have been an alpha-male anywhere in his life he would have had his fucking ass kicked until he thought that his own death was his only escape from the physical pain he was enduring, not anyone elses death. Thats just how it works, an alpha knows both restraint/compassion & violence/conquest in his actions.

Or are you afraid to say what you know is in your heart, the session was over, I had a tee time or dinner engagement?
This fourth part is for "the law", the protectors of "society": When his dysfunctional family finally became alarmed enough to call you about the things he said & wrote, "you authorities" did nothing, even knowing he possessed guns and knives, even knowing his past (I'm sure his family told you of his "treatments", see part three) even though he bought everything legally, so everything is recorded under his own name. He was "polite & courteous" to you wasn't he? Good enough, donuts all around.

I’m leftwing – to the bone. But I’m not leftwing the way I’ve suspect you categorize the left. I’m an anarchist = there’re no legitimate authorities beyond those you chose for yourself (an example is giving a surgeon ‘the authority to perform a surgery on you’ because you place trust in him/her).
There’s nothing leftwing about anything going on in the USA. In my opinion the only close definition of what’s going on in the USA (and most of the Western world) is a form of neofeudal fascism (fascism defined as the merger of state and corporate power). The ‘so-called’ leftwing in the USA is (properly) regarded as extreme rightwing by the populations in countries with access to real education (still – in Denmark, where I’m from the education system is being eroded. With the same unspoken goal as in USA – keep people dumbed down).
Well, I think the question is wrongly put. It’s not the crazed examples of misplaced, mistreated, misguided etc. young men with access to weapons running amok that should make the alarm bells ring – it’s the majority of inactive ‘so-called’ normal young people doing nothing that’s making my mind work (where’s the revolt?).
But now that you put the question out there: the mass killings are just a part of a violence fixated culture. A country that chooses to solve both domestic and foreign ‘problems’ with violence, that chooses to glorify violence by propaganda (movies, ‘news’ etc.) will end up with a violent population. Some take this to the extreme. Ad social, economic and cultural collapse and more will take it to the extremes. Rodger is, sadly, just one of many more to come…taking away weapons from people is not the solution (even though weapons are symbols of stupidity). However, I fear that the weapons will never be used for the reason ‘First Amendment’-advocates believe/hope(?). In the end game I fear people will be pointing the weapons in the wrong direction (and many towards their own heads). It’s not weapons we need – it’s an new enlightenment. In short: people need to wake up...

Sure, less people commit suicide by gun now, and the lack of a convenient means to act on suidicdal impulses has had a lasting effect on our suicide rates in this country.
Armed robbery and crimes with firearms are also down. Down, not eliminated, people still get shot and robbed at gunpoint, trade arms on the black market, etc. I still recall the local Bikies notoriously selling rocket launchers and high explosives they stole from the army, right under the noses of our federal police, so I can only imagine what the trade in small arms is like.
You know what is on the rise in Ausfailia now? Violent crime of all stripes is trending upward. Sexual Assault, Domestic Abuse, violent gangs running around and general misanthropic behaviour. They had to institute new "first strike" laws because of the number of belligerent drunks running around punching each other in the head. Intracranial hematoma; the insides of a pissed person's head bruises very easily when it comes into sudden contact with bone and concrete.
15-20 years ago, kids would think twice about starting shit on the street. The odds of a random stranger with easy access to a hunting rifle or shotgun was fairly high in some parts of the country, even in the cities. Now? There is no fear of your fellow man. That is a green light for those who lack respect for their fellow man. It's not to say that things were all sunshine and rainbows before gun control, because they weren't. However, gun legislation was a knee jerk response to a tragedy. It was not about tackling the root cause of the tragedy, just a vain attempt to limit the amount of damage that could be done, the next time an individual nutcase decided to run amok, because there will always be a next time. Limiting the power of the next big, bad, boogeyman has ultimately not made anyone safer, just less capable of defending themselves.
