BLOOMBERG NEWS--A potential $10 billion U.S. penalty against France’s largest bank BNP Paribas SA (BNP) for its alleged dealings with Iran and other sanctioned nations is stirring outrage in the country. It is putting pressure on President Francois Hollande, who hosts Barack Obama this week to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day, to protect the bank from the American onslaught.

Le Monde in its May 31 edition called the possible fine a “masterful slap.” Le Figaro newspaper said the U.S. was making an example of BNP to deflect criticism it had been “lenient with the American banks responsible for the financial crisis.”

WB7: Absolutely True!

And for that matter, so is the following...

A masterful slapstick indeed!

I don't know if everyone who went to the Guillotine during the French Revolution had it coming, but for sure the royals, banksters, and politicians did.  At this point, what difference does it make?  BFF  (Best Firstwhore Forever)

Fowl situation, Obama is a "lame duck" addicted to the "base canard." In his case it looks like the duck is ruptured and any landing is going to be uhm, spectacular.

The Europeeons are finding out that Obama's anti-American exceptionalism does not mean he is pro Eurpeon, after all they were all "colonizers." Just wait until he sends Kerry to talk with the Islamist in Europe about recognizing their "legitamcy.

Well, French Financial criminals could get their puppet Hollande to pay off the virtual US debt with the virtual french gold held by the criminal FED bankers in imaginary Fort Knox's holdings.

giggler321's picture

I guess they're still made about them asking for 2much yellow, force ending Bretton woods back in 71?

Looks like Dennis Rodman gonna make Hollande his bottom bitch, AKA southpark. It looks bad when criminals argue among themselves (apologies to Rodman for the allusion).

Wow BNP got $4.9 Billion in Bailout and then fined $10 Billion. Over 100%, so by that method Deutsche and SG have to pay $22 Billion.

If they are TBTJ then make the fine hurt 100% or more that what they took made profit on.

Does the fine go to the FED........

So will Obama go after Hollande close associates with sanctions if they do not pay.

nmewn's picture

"So will Obama go after Hollande close associates with sanctions if they do not pay.", if King O'Barry's brilliance is any guide, he'll order Holder to swap Bernie Madoff for a large café au lait.

He's a vicious bargainer really at the top of his game ;-)

assistedliving's picture

Inmelt told BO to get Holder to threaten this fine or let his GE/ALSTOM deal go thru.  Oh, and Schmidt told them to get

the frogs to back off GOOGLE spying as well.  Even MS getting on board to back off this LINUX crap.  get it?

Hollande is pissed because that represents $10 billion he can't grab.

Its the rent-a-fowl crowd faking offense, "how dare you loot our criminal bank, we loot our criminal bank not you"

that French bank is paying the "fine" with cash they "borrowed" from the UST, and the collateral for the loan was FNM paper.

BigJim's picture

Perhaps if BNP Parabas are having cashflow issues paying the fine, they can get some more liquidity from the Fed via 'lending' Goldman some of their (clients')  gold?

I was watching "France 24" on MHZ last night and they were debating what to do about all the Muslims they've let settle in the country going back to fight Jihad in Syria and other places.

The suggestions were mainly monitoring Facebook and YouTube and emails and text messages a la the N.S.A.

Not one person suggested that perhaps they shouldn't have let them all immigrate to France and get on Social Services.

By 2050 they'll have Sharia Law and Notre Dame will be turned into a Mosque.

BNP?  Again, no Banksters in handcuffs or in jail, just fines.

Theo Van Gogh was murdered by an extremist Muslim after he made a film about abuse of women under Shia law in the Neatherlands. this is a huge problem, parts of Paris are simply off limits to the police.Hitler had an idea for restoring racial purity, no one needs to go that far, if you immigrate you should agree to live under the laws and social mores of the host country. ironically denying these people citizenship only forces them into ghettos where the less than enlightened customs can be maintained. and to be sure some of these people left their homes because they didnt follow the laws in their native country. it would help if the ME was more stable, (Bush and Obama both earn Nobel Asshole medals for that problem)

Does that include Californicators who are dispersing from their home state and perverting the body politic of their destination states?

....and all the ones from up North polluting the South as they retire. Please just continue on to FL, and don't stop along the way.

Guess we all have a little of that "you aren't from around here, are you?" attitude, don't we?

toadold's picture

A few years back there was a story about some Californicators who irritated their neighbors so much about wanting to raise local taxes for stuff that they wanted that some neighbor dumped a dead horse into their swimming pool.  They got the message.

Bail outs are socialism for the banker "risk managers", the French should understand the beauty of such a system.
