ARe You JuBiLaNT THat SOPA HaS BeeN SHeLVeD?
Yes, these two feckless Hollywood tools will have to take their Hollywood horseshit back to the barn and wait for another opportune time, preferably a frightening crisis, to sneak SOPA and PIPA under our door.
Meanwhile this whole episode has accomplished several things: (a) there are plenty of young previously apolitical but now angry internet denizens, (b) it has raised public awareness of the kind of trampling of civil liberties that the douche weasels on Capital Hill are all to happy to implement for the right price and (c) it has raised public awareness of the serious imperfections embedded in our intellectual property laws, which are apparently primarily designed to entrench entertainment and media royalty, perpetuate business models outdated by advances in technology and stifle progressive interent culture. I'm not talking about pirating movies.
Max Keiser is calling it a Hollywood copyright cancer that spreads to the internet. Others are now calling for a box office and music boycott. Not a bad idea.
Meanwhile, we are subjected to more evidence of the kinds of law enforcement activites Eric In-action Jackson's Mortgage Fraud Task Force is pursuing. Today it was announced that the former President of the Sonoma Chapter of the Hells Angels has been convicted of falsifying mortgage applications to obtain properties for marijuana farms. Isn't this exciting? Do you feel safe now?
What about the real mortgage fraud gang? WTF is being done about them?
Does shutting down Mega-Upload, an obvious bone thrown at Hollywood, make you feel even better?
It better not!
That's right folks, it is perfectly alright to run websites designed to steal people's homes and nest eggs; provided they are free of copyright.
Anyone want to wager on whether or not those MegaUpload guys will get away using the Dick Fuld/Jon Corzine ("I didn't know nuttin") defense?

hey... lay off these hollywood types. i'm still not tired of watching the original DIE HARD on comcast.
If that isn't a joke, that is pathetic.
The quote about how it works is from another site.

already being done. "for shits and giggles" as they say. of course "it's all funny until yet another country gets wiped off the map." The insanity of it all is plain for all to see now.
It's funny. When you talk to experts or people acquainted intimately with certain areas, everythink is OK. I was talking to a US doctor now doing residence (I believe psychiatry), and he kept claiming that there's no abuse of psychiatric drugs in the US... yet most people from the US I know have been taking those medications, many since childhood. And that's not abuse? Or when I talked to a recently graduated lawyer, specializing in copyright and IP, he said that while there are some crazy things like Mickey Mouse not being public domain, everything is A-OK. Well, of course it's not. But when you're immersed into a specialty, you lose the forest for the bark of a single tree.
No abuse of psych drugs? He needs to crawl out from under his rock and see what the kids are saying about Susie-Q.
Agreed. When I took a Copyright Law class with a supposed high falutent expert ( the type who wrote the textbook ) there was almost zero discussion about whether the increasingly favorable copyright laws ( continuous extending retro actively etc) was good social/ economic policy. I am all for a reasonable amount of intellectual property protection but what the disneys, GE's and Pfizers have bought from Congress is too much.
From my area of practice I can tell you the elderly people in my State have all the money. Their adult children go from being mostly broke to sudennly pretty wealthy relatively speaking. Its messed up that those over 65 have 47 times the net worth of those 35 and under. So from my perspective society is pretty f-ed up right now. I keep telling people when all the boomers die off who will be there to afford their $1 milliion dollar homes?
Unless Congress starts selling visas to the Chinese if they buy a $1 million dollar home I don't see the market for large suburban family homes holding up that well as the boomers slowly die off.
California is so distorted thanks to Proposition 13 and a very unfriendly environment for small business.
Keep up the good work William!
I got news, they are already issuing those Visas, but the Chinese won't buy those shitty cardboard houses made of tainted wall board.
The miserable clustrophobic design of those subprime housing tracts is a story in and of itself.
More importantly you've got skin in the existing game.
Seeing as the US government is clearly for sale maybe the best way to get internet freedom is for the big web companies to pool thier money and buy their own congressmen, senators and president.
This is hardball. ZOG rules via Hollywood $$$ and Wall Street machinations. 'Net threatens both.
Hollywood is a cabal of useless, vacuous "beautiful people" who seek economic rents via legislation rather than inconvenience themselves by having to come up with original and creative products.
You got it.
Personally I don't care much about getting the latest DVD content for free.... I have plenty to watch on N*tFl*x right now..... However, I am not the least bit sympathetic to the big media conclomerates who complain that their stuff is being stolen, and these internet thieves are breaking the law. These are the same edomite-media-elites that distribute media that encourages stealling, lying, shooting police officers, etc etc etc in their distributed content.... so let their own "standards" prevail and let the pirating continue....
It is more complicated than that. They have a pricing problem. Entertainment does not channel through centrally controlled pipes anymore, and they won't adapt their business model. They are not very innovative people. The Hollywood moguls are actually luddites at heart.
Petitioning Congress for industry-protecting legislation is the first and last resort of the intellectually bankrupt.

D.C.'s Follywood is a horrible reality show. I mean all of the actors don't even look real. I think the producers should consider switching their format to Anime. At least it would be more believable.
Washington DC is Hollywood for ugly people
It has always been a petri dish for psychopathologists.

Go Banzai Go! Anger is good. Anger is great. Anger is best when channelled in to something that makes me laugh. Ha hee haw.
Hell's Angel's Wall St classic! Hope Max gets hold of it and runs with it too.
We have gangs over here called: "The Filthy Few"; "Devil's Henchmen" "Greasy Dogs" "Huhu" (a gigantic Bug); "Killerbeez"; "Thugs of Canal" "Darksiders" "Southern Vikings"; "Storm Troopers"; "Mongrel Mob." Thank-you my imagination is enjoying itself this morning.

Great work. I'm glad you included Mega uploads in your piece. This government has shown that ,even though their legislation hsa been shelved for now, they are going to do what they want regarding the internet. I also find the timing interesting. They just happen to seize an "internet piracy site" the day after their legislation fails.
Precisely. And proves that the real purpose of SOPA was shutting down the Truth sites. True, ZOG'll be back at it shortly, but this was nonetheless a minor tactical victory for us.
I've said it before, nothing that happens in the government is by accident.
Thank you , comrade.
Sincerely, Chris Dodd
I already boycott Hollywood, and all mainstream media for that matter, but I'll be happy to spread the word!
I'm pretty much off of everything as well. Occasionally I buy music from artists I like. I don't go to movie theaters anymore and I never watch the MSM.
What the Fucktards in Hollywood don't care about is all the Internet kids they are alienating completely. Most people know the price to see a movie is a big rip off or can't afford it. There are literally people who think everything is free. They won't change their mindset so they will go the way of the DoDo.
Ditto for me.
Now mostly watch on Netflix streaming to my flat screen. Gave up cable last year , I don't miss the mainstream media. Get my news fromt he internets. Occasiionally shell out a buck or so for a redbox or use a freebee coupon but I haven't been to a movie theater in at least a year. Not worth the $20 when a couple of months later I can rent a blue ray on flatscreen with surround sound for around a buck fifty.
It would be one thing if they produced decent content but so much of it is derivative garbage. But young people I talk to right now realize that the old model is basicaly dead. Apparently a lot of the more senior people just don't see the writing on the wall.
I got Netflix for my parents three years ago and they love it. They have no cable hook up. Why bother?
Same here, we do watch a DVD occasionally... Warhorse is one that we are planning for. But not in the Theater and 20 dollar tickets. No way.
“”take their Hollywood horseshit back to the barn and wait for another opportune time, preferably a frightening crisis, to sneak SOPA and PIPA under our door.””“”They'll tack it onto a debt ceiling increase passed on Easter Sunday.””
You got it. Tyranny never gives up.
Creative Commons License is the best way for artists to license their works.
it cuts out the parasitic corporations as middlemen and goes directly to the fan.
the fan can freely distribute for personal use and copy as many times as he wants.
but there is a fee for commercial use.
it turns the entire model on its head in favor of the artist and the consumer.
it's the way of the future. that's why sopa is backed by the old guard walking dead. no more blood to suck on for the parasites.
anyone can type anything without credibility. seeing is believing. video's have credibility. copyrights are a convenient excuse to shutup the video hosters and those who show the truth. do you really believe that you live in the land of the free?

They, Hollywood, are like communist party bosses trying to protect their turf in a transition economy.
uhh. brings back stories about what happened to people like dashiel hammett.
Chris Dodd is threatening to take his Hollywood money elsewhere --- The Republicans! if Obama and the Democrats don't get in line and push SOPA through. Hmmm, Hollywood money vs Silicon Valley money.... what to do? Maybe California will fall into the ocean before long and they won't have to choose. And SOPA is only shelved, meaning it can be pulled off that shelf and voted on in a hurry when our attention is diverted. I don't trust these bastards one inch.
As for mortgages, isn't the State of the dis-Union Speech coming next week? I bet we hear an ambitious plan to save the homeowners that haven't yet lost their homes, and it'll sound really good. But it'll really only apply to about 3 or 4% of the people in trouble because the rest won't qualify, and it'll piss off everyone else who is 1) playing by the rules; 2) have already lost their home; 3) own their home outright; 4) are renting and therefore won't benefit directly or as previously mentioned 5) don't qualify.
Night of the Living Dead?
(Patrick Leahy does not make an attractive woman.)
What is it about Connecticutt that creates such inbred political garbage like Dodd and the Homeland Hack?
Being from the opposite side of the country, I'm tempted to say it's a New England thing. I've never really liked any of the politicians from that part of the country but I think it's just that the New England ones are a little more publically and politically prominent.
Let's face it, with minor exceptions, they are all horrendous. But those two are world series douche weasels.
Yale U.
And GE
we've had authorization to use military force, the patriot act, the john warner national defense authorization act, the military commissions act, NDAA, the upcoming strip your citizenship act, the smith act is still on the books, now just waiting for the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act which should be arriving off the shelf directly. good times.
thing is non of this matters, sopa/pipa or another version will pass in some omnibus bill or while the senate chamber is empty and the "Leader" (dear?) self votes and passes an amendment by 'deem and pass' attached to some bill in the middle of the night.
it wont matter, the interface will change, but the network will just go around the blockage, the information will still flow.
maybe it wont be at the surface and easy to get, maybe itll be in the deep net, but it'll still flow. you'll just have to know how to find it and spend the effort to do it. it'll be different, be ready and prepare accordingly.
WP both of you! WB7 n GW.
I see through the fog here WB (not Warner Brothers). This was a "run it up the flag pole" shot to see who flinches.
This "kill switch" will get repackaged with some new perception management, passed in the middle of the night tacked to some "important legislation" or just implemented with a secret executive order due to the ongoing "National EmergencyTM"
Such utter BS! That rant off my chest, excellent work as always Sir William!
