Mainstream Media Discover Ron Paul
The Wall Street Journal, NPR, The New York Times, and other mainstream media have engaged in an obvious and silly boycott of presidential candidate Ron Paul. Report after report about the Republican primary excluded him, though occasionally they’d mention his name—to be fair and balanced. For example, the media coverage on October 11 ahead of the GOP debate that evening looked like this:
- The Wall Street Journal’s front-page article, “Debates Take Candidates for a Bumpy Ride,” didn’t mention Ron Paul.
- The New York Times’ front-page article, “Five Things to Watch for in the G.O.P. Debate,” mentioned Ron Paul's name at the bottom, in a parenthetical remark that acknowledged his presence.
- NPR's four-and-a-half minute report covered Sarah Palin's and Chris Christie's exit from the race; Herman Cain's from-the-outside strategy; Mitt Romney's 25% ceiling and his “Mormon problem”; and Rick Perry’s lousy performance during debates. But no mention of Ron Paul.
Ron Paul simply didn’t exist. Maybe the mainstream media were trying to relegate him to oblivion because his anti-Fed and anti-war viewpoints were inconvenient. But even people who weren’t supporters of Ron Paul were outraged: a democracy that wants to be vibrant needs adequate news coverage of major political players. And their outrage lit up the blogosphere, social media, and other outlets.
But a new era has dawned: The New York Times has discovered Ron Paul. Or were the editors afraid that, by sticking to their boycott, they’d have to make do with this headline: "Romney finishes second in Iowa Caucus, Perry Third, and Gingrich Fourth." Which would have been a riot.
Instead: “Paul Moves into Lead in Iowa Forecast,” was today’s headline in the NYT. The article discussed the dynamics in Iowa, where Ron Paul is now expected to beat Romney and demolish Perry and Gingrich. And then the author mused that "...all bets would be off if Mr. Paul won New Hampshire too."
I was stunned to read this in the NYT. And there was one article after another that at least mentioned Ron Paul in some significant way. So I did some counting:
- December 19: 5 articles (as of noon)
- December 18: 6 articles
- December 17: 4 articles
- December 16: 11 articles
OK, a couple of them were by Paul Krugman who was firing off ineffectual broadsides at Ron Paul. But others were outright positive.
For example, an article today on Gingrich's tax plan paid a compliment to Ron Paul—the Tax Foundation had given Gingrich’s plan a C+ and Ron Paul’s plan a B (Huntsman scored highest with a B+).
But he hasn’t won the mainstream media battle just yet. Yesterday’s article, “G.O.P. Contests Near, and the Pace Picks Up,” discussed the major Republican candidates:
- Newt Gingrich—3 paragraphs, 168 words (which ironically included "Mr. Gingrich is leading in polls in Iowa").
- Mitt Romney—3 paragraphs, 181 words.
- Ron Paul—1 paragraph, 73 words.
- Rick Perry—2 paragraphs, 127 words.
- Michele Bachman—2 paragraphs, 133 words.
- Jon Huntsman—1 paragraph, 94 words.
- Rick Santorum—1 paragraph, 41 words.
Of all the contenders, the leader in Iowa, Ron Paul, was given the second smallest piece of verbal real estate. Nevertheless, and unlike before, he was there bright and visible.
But it gets better for Ron Paul: "Paul’s Ground Game,’ in Place Since ’08, Gives Him an Edge” admired the depth, longevity, and effectiveness of his campaign organization in Iowa. And even potential issues came across as oblique praise:
His consistent positions over the years also set him apart from other candidates bedeviled by charges of flip-flopping. But they could also undermine him, as his debate performance Thursday highlighted a rigid antiwar stance out of sync with many Republicans.
After reading it, one wonders if the reporter wasn’t secretly rooting for Ron Paul. And it isn’t just The New York Times. NPR and others have followed. This kind of mainstream media coverage is a huge win for Ron Paul—and for democracy in America.
For the whole debacle of the mainstream media boycott, read.... Where the Heck is Ron Paul?

"Mr Paul, how long have you been a member of the Commu-Nazi-Islamo-Terror party? Don't wait for the translation, answer me now!"
Mr. Paul, did you stop beating your wife before or after your conversion to cannibalistic pederasty?
I would love to join this "game", but it is too close to the fucking truth. I almost pulled an "Elvis" watching Hannity's after the debate show, good thing the .45 was upstairs in the nightstand drawer.
If there is one person that can push my tirade-button, it is that little weasel, Sean Hannity. My God, he is a complete moron and a shill!
He needs to go back to all those manual labor jobs he is always claiming he did for years "when he was poor and working his way through school"....apparently, he didn't work hard enough to fund his receipt of diploma!
Somewhere, I hope, there is a bus with Sean Calamity's name on its front grill.
The New York Times and other media outlets must be getting desperate to appear credible. They must have been discussing how many people have cancelled their subscriptions this quarter. They must sense that they are becoming less and less effective with their programming and better do something, and fast.
The malevolent Forces of Darkness set back, if not defeated, in their sociopathic one-world police state plans by a mild-mannered obstetrician from Texas --- now THAT would be divine justice indeed!
Plus plus plus extra green arrows...
The "End the Fed" presidential platform has some ominous historical occurances that coincide with it. Former presidents that objected to central banks include Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, and J.F.K.. Maybe now that the dollar has been devalued by 99%, history won't be repeated if RP ends up winning, but going against the central banking concept sure has been detrimental to the health of these former presidents....
Ron Paul is our next president. MSM better get used to him.
Ron Paul may disappear after next week, when this shit (S. 1867 (NDAA): Secret Torture Provisions For Home Grown Terrorists) is passed. He fits their definition listen to these fascists fucks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0wpAcovRFk&list=PLA087DCE928300F83&index...
Twitter, Facebook, blog, email etc... this video to everyone you know. This is the end of rule of law in America. This allows them to take and torture any American who disagrees with the current government and the way it is run. Dissent is no a "Thought Crime" punishable by torture and rendition.
Here is another more historic view of the shit they are about to pass and with a suggestion of what we need to do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7IvLEpjPmc&list=FLDqTwQ_Aj90G1wgtmXVbQxA...
These motherfuckers need to be stopped now. If you ever had a reason to exercise defend ALL your rights under the Bill of Rights, now is the time. They have crossed the fucking line.
Ron Paul is a good doctor, an average politician and a mediocre public speaker, but he makes the lamestream media wet themselves. A 77 year old white guy scares the shit out of them.
Its his ideas, he won't give in, he actually believes the things he says, instead of regurgitating whatever pablum the pollsters and consultants insist the people want to hear.
It shows how corrupt the system is when a man who speaks his mind based on his own thinking scares the shit out of said system.
Despite my username I admire & respect Dr. Paul, and while I may not agree with everything he believes I'm confident of one thing: He'll stick by his convictions if he's elected. Please let me share some thoughts.
Obama, whom I voted for, has delivered on none of his promises. In my opinion he's no better than "W". Because of Obama's ineptitude, we have no public option, we're still ass-deep in Afghanistan, our economy is in the shitter (which he did inherit but provided no bold leadership when we really needed it), as a country we're broke, and we're damn near living in a police state with renewal and strengthening of the so-called "Patriot Act". In fact I'm expecting at least martial law in some states if not the entire U.S. before the general election. That's how bad I think things have sunk.
I think many former Obama supporters will back Ron Paul this time, simply because he's an agent of change. Which is precisely why the MSM shun him, because the kind of change he proposes would have a huge impact on the "gravy train" of the 1%. Not that Ron Paul is anti-business, quite the opposite. But I don't think he's one to put up with the shenanigans we've endured for the past 30 years in the U.S.A.
So if you're an independent like me, take George Washington's advice in his contribution today and switch your registration to Republican so we can ensure Dr. Paul's success. He might not win against Obama but the debates should be interesting.
I admire your intellectual honesty. I would like to suggest an alternative to something that Obama did not achieve that you wanted: a public option for healthcare.
I come from a long line of conventional doctors and nurses, and my husband is a surgeon. What I want to point out to everyone (both R and D) that the whole healthcare debate has been argued upon false premises and propanda! Where am I going with this?
Americans need to understand that our healthcare system is really NOT "healthcare"....it is SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT not intending to cure the CAUSE of disease. The entire approach to "healthcare" is controlled by profit motive of Big Pharma. I have witnessed this from the inside...and I can tell you that drug/device reps will do almost ANYTHING to boost their sales....even come on to your husband!
Why people are demanding a healthcare system based on expensive and most times extremely toxic drugs that do nothing more than manage symptoms is beyond me! We should be thinking for ourselves and researching how to be and stay healthy using nature as our guide. There is such amazing ability to access cutting edge, non-toxic approaches to health on the web. But then again, that would necessitate people actually taking some responsibility for their own wellbeing.
I will NOT utilize the services of conventional "healthcare". I know too much!
God bless you!!!
Behold, people brought together that heretofore never existed in unison: An Atheist from Texas thanking God for a Liberal from California.
Don't think it can't happen bitchez: 34% is all we need to either of the parties 32%. Third party , I'm already there after the coming slander.
I went down to the county building today to pay property taxes, and change my voting affiliation to "Republican" so I could vote for Ron Paul (was Independent). In AZ you have to be a registered Republican to vote in the primary. I hate the current fucked up system.
Well shalom or whatever to you, whatever your creed... if you support Paul you are a brother to me.
Think at the choices our forefathers had to make when joining together with virtual strangers with different beliefs 235 years ago against a powerful oppressive government.
In Illinois, yeah I know what you're thinking, we can choose either party's ballot at the polling place on primary election day. I like your gun laws better, though.
Used to live in DeKalb. True story, when I went to one of the local gun stores here in AZ to buy ammo for the first time. I asked them how do I get a FOID card? The guy looked at me funny, then asked where I was from? I said Illinois. He said, "the government here isn't out to fuck you. If you want ammo, how much, what kind and cash is all you need. If you want to buy a gun fill out this form, pay me and take it home with you." I explained what a FOID card was, and he said "fuck that".
Now 13 years later, you don't even need a permit to carry a concealed weapon in AZ. Anyone allowed by law to own a gun, can carry open or concealed.
I understand the voting thing, they don't want Democrats to screw up the Republican primary and vica versa. Still, it's a pain in the ass.
and is the crime rate up or down in AZ vs IL in those last 13 years...
wait... don't speak the truth, someone might hear you
@Knuckles
Spot on bro, not to hard to call out the MSM well in advance anymore these days. Always have to include some stealth ad hominem innuendos to dupe the mindless masses. Some of my personal favorites are the blatent oxymoronic ones. i.e. "right wing anarchists".
The desperation is palatable
Desparation is a stinky cologne
It is already being set up incase he wins.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_IOWA_CAUCUSES_HACKING?SITE=AP&...
It was the hacks fault.
Uh . . how do you "hack" a caucus vote that isn't a secret ballot? As I understand it, the Iowa caucus vote is *not* a secret ballot. At the prescribed polling place you have to stand up in the open in front of other people and commit to Jones or whoever and all the Jones supporters go to one corner of the room while all the Smith supporters go to another etc. So, everyone in your voting place can see who voted for whom and how many people voted for each of the candidates. If, afterward, someone had "hacked" a computer and made it read that everyone from your town voted for, say, Huntsman, you would all know, not suspect as you would with secret ballots, but know that it was wrong.
Remarkable, right? I'll go a step further... the hacker will prove to be a Paul supporter. I bet it could be easy enough to dupe some 20-year-old computer savant into believing he is doing the right thing. It'll be staged... the mark won't know, and he'll leave a trail of pro-Paul support a mile long.
Wow, I used to rock out to this song and thought Time Zone was a bunch of crack heads... then, I recently listened to it and realized that this and the Beaten Generation by The The were actualy prophetic... We need to make bigger changes, the next 26 years.
holy shit, listen to Reagan.... and the prophets

I heard RP used to hang out with Danzig. The story goes he would collect the heads of little girls and put them on his wall. Hack the heads off little girls and put them on his wall!
God -you are a pathetic sick fuck.
Someone is not a Misfits fan...
Someone get the nerds a drink.
Wow no one has a sense of humor tonight. Lighten up folks, it's satire.
Mr. Lennon Hendrix was no doubt snarking all the way.
At any rate, about this Main & Lame Ass Stream Media business, and their begrudging acknowledgement, I have only one quote in response to their forced capitulation:
-- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Damn it feels good to see the establishment shitting their pants as they see a true grassroots movement gather momentum at the speed of light, and it's also comedic to also see their proxy media pundit puppets have to struggle balancing acknowledgement of this development (lest they continue to be accurately accused of trying to manipulate coverage rather than report) with now critical agenda of trying to marginalize it in terms of its significance.
OK.
So he hung the kids heads on his wall.
I got that.
But the real test of his character is whether he collected the heads or chopped them off himself.
That's where we find whether these folks are pansies in disguise or real men's men.
He hacked them off! And this was after him and Danzig had finished only the first keg. They drank two more that night! That means Paul drank 225 beers that night! He's fucking crazy!
That's fuckin' METAL man! Paul supports heavy metal!
Au
Ag
Pt
Pd
Yep, all are heavy metals.
;)
Reading InfoWars again I see.
Why not when they post Zero Hedge every other article.
Seriously...
And almost a waste what with most the readership there not having a clue as to financial maschinations taking place other than Bush's or Obama's fault crap.
Danzig?!? Bitchen man! Maybe he can use The Revengeful in a campaign add!
All I know is that Jones has devolped a man crush on Zero Hedge, and I am fine with that. Bring all those fuckers here, and if there are any problems, we'll fight.
That's how I got here! And I have learned a lot from y'all! So quit dissin' and start uniting! Infowars has many very insightful articles solely dedicated to geopolitics, which is their main focus.
Jones links ZH, Drudge links Jones and ZH. Between those three outlets, the word is definitely getting out there....
I've never seen Drudge link ZH, but it's about fucking time.
Watch.... Especially after Kimberley Strassel's anti Paul article in the Journal the other day... pretty soon, these Ron Paul stories will begin with something to the effect of;
"Admired fiercely by only a small group of libertarian right wing supporters, and given short shrift in the press, Ron Paul is beginning to make sense to America...."
Betcha
Why is a staunch anti-war stance a problem? Wouldn't it be better to not spend $600bn a year on wars and "defense"? I can't see any real problem with the US going "Uh, time to go" and just left the Middle East entirely. Yes there'd be fallout because "oh you gotta help us rebuild", but it'd have to be better than "hey lets sit here and keep killing brown people for another 10 years".
Sometimes I think people don't even realise that the US is at war with anyone. People have become so desensitised through the mainstream media and combat games (if you're "playing" war every day, the war you see on TV won't seem any different, and as such, not that big a deal), that understanding what is happening is beyond them.
It's no wonder we have a shortage of engineers in the U.S. They're all employed by the military industrial complex. I can only imagine what could be created if their talent was applied to some other creative endeavour. I do wish I could have one of those electronic gatling guns for mounting on my 2000 S-10.
Ron Paul - President
Jon Huntsman - VP
Instant credibility to the Libertarian wing of the Republican Party. I'll stay up late at night campaigning for that duo.
Ron Paul for Prez.
Marco Rubio for Vice Prez.
SAY IT WITH ME!
