Local Group Delivers Shoes, Gets Stuck in Africa After Fire

More than a day after a massive fire destroyed part of an airport in east Africa, we've learned international flights have just started taking off and landing again. And nobody is more happy about that than Brian Williams - the founder of Think Kindness. Williams along with more than a dozen northern Nevadans traveled to east Africa 10 days ago - to do what they do every year - deliver shoes. "They were collected in Reno and we delivered the shoes to orphans in central Kenya." But this year their mission trip included a new project that will keep the impoverished youth more connected to Nevada. "We also set up an e-tutoring center where teachers in Reno will be able to help teach students here in Kenya." After more than a week of hard work and, yes, a lot of fun, images - on the news - alerted the Think Kindness team that there might be some troubles getting home. "The tag line under the report said 'Airport Closed Indefinitely' - which, being in the middle of Kenya, doesn't really give you the best feeling." Their first concern was terrorism; the fire marked the 15th anniversary of a terrorist attack against the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. But investigators ruled that out and are now determining if it was accidental or intentional. No injuries are reported and the airport is re-opening. Good news for our good Samaritans. And even though flights may be slow-going getting off the ground. "Our spirits are still high. The people in Kenya are amazing and kind. It's just a little adversity, but I think everything will be fine." The group's scheduled to fly out Friday night. But the international terminal will look much different than when they arrived.
