As Hugo Chavez Wins Presidential Re-election Someone Makes Absolute Killing On InTrade

Tyler Durden's picture

Moments ago the Venezuelan Electoral Council (one wonders if the term 'Hanging Chad' has a different meaning down there?), announced that with 90% of the votes counted, and an 80.4% turnout, the winner of 54.4% of the vote, and still reigning presidential champion, is Venezuela's Hugo Chaved. This is not surprising. What is quite stunning however, is that someone made an absolute killing in the Chavez reelection contract, which after trading in the 80s range (indicating an 80% probability of reelection), dipped moments ago to the low 20s, following speculation Chavez may be on the way out, only to soar to 99.9 as of the last trade. In other words, someone just made 5x their money on the Chavez vote in minutes, money which has most likely been well spent on Cuban Cohibas by now. Congrats.

Now we know what a free market truly is when you can 5X your investment within minutes, as someone HFTs it down to 20%.

That Chavez be the subject of the bet only makes it more ironic bet wise and moronic logic wise!

He must be laffing with his friend to the bank.

Muchachos, we know how to beat the capitalists at their own dirty, speculative game! Caramba!

Hugh Hendry and Kyle Bass can learn a lesson on that about false flagging short and then U spinning long.

People are commenting on here as if they actually had some hard information to comment about.

Sheesh.

Meanwhile here in the good old USA we have very little or no auditing of our elections (paper trail).  Hell, I'm given to understand that the news consortium that reports the vote has decided (they decided) not to conduct exit polling in all 50 states.  Our national elections are a sorry joke.

Just like here, the voting process there is hacked or fraudulent. Voting is a waste of time.

In 2004, Venezuela's electronic voting was being handled by a company called Sequoia voting systems. supposedly started by two software engineers-from Venezuela. So what you ask? Well, they handle voting in the US as well. INCLUDING THE BOTCHED 2000 FLORIDA HANGING CHAD FIASCO

"According to former Sequoia employees, the ballots for Palm Beach County were produced with paper and manufacturing processes that were outside of normal specifications. This supposedly caused all of the problems with "hanging chads". When quality problems were found, Sequoia management ordered the production workers to ignore them. One worker speculated that the object was to discredit punch-card ballots and thus promote sales of electronic voting machines."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sequoia_Voting_Systems

Sequoia was bought by UK De La Rue, and eventually by Smartmatic, an entity with a convoluted ownership that traces through the EU and Curacao. New ownership did not prevent them from being marred by more troubles..They were court ordered to sell Seq, though Smartmatic retained ownership of intellectual property. Now Seq is owned by privately held Dominion.

Venezuals 2012 e-voting is being run by Smartmatic. Why should anyone respect the results?

The entire world of electronic voting is a giant dog pile of opaque ownership, shoddy quality, and vulnerable systems. Why is the US completely undermining the credibilty of voting by using these unreliable and unsecure methods. Once upon a time, if you wanted to rig an election, you had to go to hundreds of precincts and stuff thousands of ballot boxes. Now a single operative can adjust the elections of an entire country with a couple of keystrokes. A few percent can be shifted without any trace. evoting is the biggest threat ever faced by democracy.

those who vote decide nothing, he who counts the votes decides everything.-somebody famous

Hugo is a legend - only 4 nations seem to be seriously challenging the NWO - Iran, Venezuela, NK and Iceland.  Keep up the good fight Hugo :D

Iceland gave it the finger and even though Brown called them a nation of terrorists, and tried to use anti-terrorism laws against them - they screwed the banking plan to enslave them and seem to be doing quite well.

Democracy seems to work pretty well when you have a small population that is educated, or that can easily become educated as to the real issues.
