Perhaps the reason why AAPL is having its biggest daily tumble in recent history on the day it officially launched the iPad mini for retail sale, is because all the people who otherwise would be waiting in line in front of FAO Schwartz and inhaling the smell of fresh horse excrement, are doing all they can to obtain gas. Any gas. Because iHeater, iShower and iFridge just lack that little "oomph" when dealing with people who are cold, smelly and hungry.

There are no problems in politics, only opportunities.
Why don't they just take a "virtual drive" on their new iPads?
It is very, very hard to sympathize. They were warned for WEEKS. And Heaven forbid that anybody in America might pay for things with CASH. It would be a shame if they have to convert some of their silver to pay at the pumps. Maybe they can barter with blankets and beads.
Wasn't there a mandatory evactuation order too?
Hang in there NYC, Jersey too.
ZHers live there and feel the fallout too.
One can try and prepare as much as possible but when it actually happens, you will still be surprised.
You aint seen nuttin yet... Wait until the real chaos begins and it effects the entire country? People will be begging to get into a FEMA CAMP!
That is exactly the idea
In a time of crises, the most important assets are water, food, gas, guns and plenty of ammo. This mess is all the proof that I need that government can't do anything properly. The guberment can't help the palms-up losers.
A big fat + 1
We see what happened after Katrina. Now we see post-Sandy...
"This mess is all the proof that I need that government can't do anything properly."
How far America has come since the days when people used their heads and looked after themselves.
Indeed, police and tropps are needed to maintain order in shit-and-piss anti-gun states like NY and NJ. If this happened in my state, the lines at the gas station would resemble a gun show and everybody would be smiling and giving each other a hand.
now imagine that we had a fiat crisis as well as a natural disaster. Silver, Gold, Gun,s Bullets, Food and Water

Wow..... All this attention.....
And you People who REFUSE to Plan ahead, are gonna VOTE.....
Excuse me but.... Fuck you.....
Yeap. All those helpless folks are going to vote for handouts. The outcome of the election was never in doubt.
Are you suggesting all these people should have "planned ahead" and stored tens of gallons of fuel in their appartments?
How about the cab companies? How much fuel should they have stored ahead of this disaster?
You're dumber than you think.
where do they put the generator if they live in an apt? Most people want Electricity for heat and cooking. A kerosine heater and a camping stove can cover both of these needs. A kerosine heater can run for days on 5 gallons of kerosine or disel, and camping stoves can cook multiple meals on one liter of LP. Prepping for an apt would require less space than you think.
"Are you suggesting all these people should have "planned ahead" / and stored tens of gallons of fuel in their apartments?"
Every sound-of-mind and able-bodied human being should have heeded the warnings and planned ahead. One hopes sincerely that nobody would be so stupid as to store gasoline indoors. Then again, the position of Darwin in a free market must be respected, even (especially?) in apartment buildings.

Brings back fond memories of the late 70's. Buckle up kiddies, something tells me this time is going to be even more fun!
Looking at all those red gas cans made me wonder how long 5 gallons of gas will power a (avg) home generator for.
After a brief trip to google; " Five gallons of gas would last for 6 to 10 hours." [Running continuously]
I really feel for those people freezing their asses off. At least in Florida and the south, the temps. don't plunge after hurricanes. (usually)
One gallon goes for about 5 hours give or take on your average 1500 watt generator and how you have your choke adjusted. This was my experience. I am unsure for the larger ones so this is definitely possible. I believe we are just getting started in this disaster.
Thanks IridiumRebel ;-)
you got it bro
Folks were not even aware of the scope of Katrina for many days, then there was the very long clean up and repair, I agree. Good luck IR.
Late season hurricanes in north east do just that..
The night after IKE passed it was beautiful weather low humidity. But that was short lived. The temps went back into the 90s and the humidity went back into the +80s lol. But it was nice sitting in the backyard with no light and listening to the radio. It was like camping.

Go to comment 109 for ECMWF model run for next Thursday. BTW, this model was essentially dead-on when predicting Sandy's path and landfall, and overall, is generally one of the best around.
keep an eye on it and keep us posted
Without fuel, they were nothing. They built a house of straw. The thundering machines sputtered and stopped. Their leaders talked and talked and talked. But nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. The cities exploded. A whirlwind of looting, a firestorm of fear. Men began to feed on men. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice. And in this maelstrom of decay, ordinary men were battered and smashed. Men like Max. The warrior Max. In the roar of an engine, he lost everything. And became a shell of a man, a burnt out, desolate man, a man haunted by the demons of his past, a man who wandered out into the wasteland. And it was here, in this blighted place, that he learned to live again...
Narrator of my film, is that you? :)

Barack Obama doesn't care about white people.
He doesn't care about black people either. In fact I think he cares mostly about his drones.
Its a Zionist world and thats his employer thats what he cares about. The next puppet will care just as much.
Just imagine the amount of regulations and laws that are being broken in order for people to just survive. Cops are falling down on the job, they should be tazing these folks and shooting their dogs for walking around with potential bombs.
as an aside, notice how peaceful and helpful these cops are when they are by themselves, surrounded by half cocked hoards of pissed off hungry eaters. This should give you a clue to who is really in control when the shit hits the fan. I'll give you a hint, it ain't gonna be the police.
Nothing like modernisation for you.
At times like these, I fondly remember the gas pumps in Afghanistan,
and Pakistan where you could at least ,hand crank your gas when the power went down.
Real self service.

This country is going to be ugly when civil war and racial riots break out after peak oil. We laugh at the incredibly shrinking Japanese now, but they might get the last laugh yet.

Hmmm, this brings up a peculiar set of problems. So, if you're bi- or multi- racial, which side of the race war do you fight on.
You just keep beating yourself up for being on the wrong side.
All this demand for energy and yet companies like Solyndra go bankrupt even with tons of federal support trying to make an alternative form to fossil fuel
Preview of Obama's America 2016?
Suck it smug New Yorkers/Northeasterners. Absolutely no sympathy for those that didn't prepare in spite of DAYS of warning and suggestions to do so. This should be a foreshadowing wake up call for preparing for the crisis that's coming that's going to make 2008 look like a walk in the park.

Human Zoos, they're a scream.
this is just practice for things to come...
I thought the population had 10 days notice of the storm? Why wouldn't they at least get a few extra gallons of fuel (along with some food and water) well beforehand?
and when that runs out?
Because the government did not direct the future soylent green chips to do so.
If they only thought ahead, they could have had all the marathoners running on treadmills that would power lower Manhattan.
Tie rickshaws to the marathoners and stage chariott races for the commuters.
Spartacus at the Meadowlands, bitchez!
Look at all of that demand outstripping supply! Bullish! /sarc and prayers for the Northeast
And they are going forward with a fucking marathon as people struggle and go to dumpsters for food. Freaking mayor of NY>
It's not just the diversion of resources either, they need access to the highways and with a commute of 4 hours, the city doesn't need any extra cars either.
I'll sell you this gas, but it will cost you that iPhone.
Gasoline, the new status symbol. It doesn't have a maps application either, but you can't live without it.
But but but iApps can print gasoline.
All is fine. Insane Bloomberg will have his marathon runners running around the town.
JGO! Ju Got Owned! And clown sucking the gas with his mouth out of the tank getting owned now and will be years later when has lung damage.
You siphon with your mouth, not by inhaling, unless you're a dope.
I remember in the 70's gas crisis siphoning some gas out of the family station wagon for the lawn mower because it was an "odd" day and we had even numbered tags and I had to mow the grass to get my allowance; Dad was a stickler.
I like the smell of gas but it tastes pretty awful.
The birth rate nine months from now is going to be one hell of a spike.
Stores better start stocking their warehouses with Pampers and Enfamil (Huggies suck, and mother's milk is best).

I know I'm being insensitive but don't really care. The vast majority of these people are supporters of Obama, the nanny-state, socialism and redistribution. Well, fuck 'em. You don't wanna take care of yourself and your family, you want government to do it, then wait for it assholes.
I love an insensitive, broad generalization...........More paperwork!
hello human, your ancestors roamed the planet with bare feet. so, don't get lazy, get your boots, get on your bikes.
Green energy bitchez go for it.
When people become dependent upon government from cradle to grave, it's no wonder we've become their debt slaves.
Commence bombing Iran. Netanyahu has been to nice so has US army.
Take the gloves off and occupy the middle east oil fields now! Look at that!
And the yuppie idiots probably still want to lick Michael Moore's shit stain
underware. Drop that fat piece of crap down a dry hole. And then piss

LOL...I want $8 gas, just so I can watch you freak out...
You're going to blame W for this too I bet. Liberal socialist freaking mornons.
Damn sure better take control of the oil fields. Want that fuck in Iran telling
you to get in line?
MDB is much better Troll than you.
I live in the city and don't have to drive, so gas can go to $8 a gallon for all I care. It probably should be there anyway--Europeans pay that much, why shouldn't we?
I wonder how bartering for gas with mercury dimes is going.
I decided to reshufeshuffle some holdings the other day and, after work, I was able to move a 100oz Ag brick for spot, and get a certified check for the amount, all before 6:00pm.
The hardest part was carrying the bar.
The only person in any of these pictures making any sense was the one riding the bicycle. I'm in the country, and have extra gas, but I also have a reasonably decent trail bike hanging on the wall of the garage if TSHTF for real. Also have several real cross-cut saws and an old felling saw for when the chain saws don't make noise anymore, and know how to keep them sharp. City people are screwed so many ways from Sunday if there is ever a for-real longer term and really widespread disaster that really puts them back on their own for more than two or three weeks.
1. When you have a few days notice of a big storm coming, do you a) sit around doing the same old same old, or b) get off your lazy backside, fill up your gas tank(s), and fill up a few extra five gallon jugs just in case?
2. When you get the bright idea to siphon gasoline using a gargen hose and your lungs, give some thought to what happens if you get any gasoline into your lungs. Let's review, when you have a few days notice of a big storm coming, do you a) practice sucking on a garden hose, or b) buy a $6 hand operated siphon made for gasoline?
I would use a drill.
This is the nightmare you wanted to see. Are you likeing it?
<fap fap fap>
lmao. . . ((bad monkey))
It's fine. Then again, I don't have to drive anywhere. What's your excuse?
Idiots, they all voted for mass immigration and the immigrants didn't bring any gas, this is America's future, cue lines, rationing and fuel redistribution taxes.
That might be your future, but my car is parked 95% of the time, because I live in the city and don't have to drive to work. So the price of gas doesn't really impact me that much.
Any comments from those zh posters who said this storm was no big deal?
They are the ones ridiculing people for not having a months worth of gas stored up.
I was wrong.
Hopefully won't see another one for a long time, and that things get back to "normal" for folks ASAP.
Sure. The shoreline was obviously hammered, and I absolutely feel terrible for the folks in Jersey, Brooklyn, and Staten Island (and I know many) who lost property, or worse. That being said, the reality of the situation is that a large portion of the city was up and running the next day. That doesn't take away from the disaster, but it does attempt to show that despite media reports from around the world, the City of New York is not even remotely close to being the Mad Max kind of catastrophe that many people (including many people on this site) seem to think it is (or want it to be). I'm sitting here right now--it's just not the case. And while Sandy's storm surge was predictably bad for low-lying coastal areas, the storm itself felt exactly like other Category 1 hurricanes that I've been through over the years.
Probably could make a killing selling machetes to all those angry people who want to take cuts.
There has been some looting and violence but certaining not as bad as I would have thought. I halfway expected widespread pillage, raping, robbing, arson, etc.. Martial law, curfews, the national guard, maybe even regular army. So far so good. It's too bad their own stupidity didn't allow for better storm preparation and also prevents help from getting there quicker even now.
Just wait. . .
People we know are flying IN for the nyc marathon. They kicked a little homeless couple out of the hotel to make room. I call that right neighborly. Stupid is as stupid does. [/Forrest "Bloomberg" Gump]

Yeah right - dream on goldbugs. "Precious" about as useful as tits on an armadillo in these circumstances, Ditto Mercury Dimes and other nonsense.
What the fuck does gold or silver have to do with any of that?
Nothing. And Ive never heard anyone suggest that either.
Yeah, because goldbugs don't carry any cash. Retard.
You can bet your ass that the cabs and limos in wo-manhattan have all the gasoline they need.
Wow. Also from the biological point of view, this empire is finished.
Should become quite funny, if one day the refigerators would stay empty in the multicultural marxistic paradise...
This is so sad.

Now imagine when war with Iran kicks off and there's something like that all across America... gonna be hilarious.
It's going to get even uglier over the next week or two, I expect.
Should, because election results will be postponed. Watch.
I'm expecting a 5-4 Supreme Court declaration of the winner just after XMas. John Roberts will once again be the deciding vote.

Amerikan Pussies in the making, welcome Pussies.
I live in SI NY, and have a 10 kw Generac hooked up to my nat gas line with a 100 amp switch. Best $3k I ever spent. If nat gas fails as well (it hasn't yet) I can connect standard propane tanks. I have a fireplace and enough wood for the winter. I powered both my neighbors houses during our outage, which lasted only two days.
Don't buy a house at or below sea level, and keep trees trimmed, or avoid them altogether. I don't understand people living on fault lines, tornado alleys, coast lines, that's just asking for trouble.
My wife keeps a year supply of non perishables, and my cars are always fueled up. I also keep a portable 5kw gas powered generator in the garage, and my Jeep comes with a 115VAC outlet. .I have direct tv and fios, god forbid we miss an episode of honey boo:-)
It's the story of the three pigs here, I swear. Of course, the victims are all blaming everyone but themselves. Now they're relying on fucking fema and the red cross, good luck with that. And now I feel guilty, so off we go delivering meals and whatnot. And no, I'm not "rich", just another working stiff who enjoys limited independence with a (small) amount of common sense.
Well done sir...A+
Dude 'you feel guilty'
Not because you've done wrong, but because you've done right?
They'll laugh at you when things are ok, then demand help when they're not, and then laugh again when things are ok.
Stupidity follows cycles...
We all make our choices and our choices make us.
Congrats for thinking ahead keesooi. A friend of mine near fingerboard ave spent about 8 hours during the storm ferrying people to higher land using a boat he found tied to a tree.
After transporting his 2 children, girlfriend, father, mother and very elderly grandmother to safety and sacrificing his brand new 535.. he managed to save several more lives.
Unfortunately, for some it was too late. A man in a wheelchair, dead, his cold corpse already blue. His dog, shivering but alive, managed to survive by somehow perching himself on top of a birdcage. He saved the dog.
So extremely sad for those who could not help themselves - or who had no one to help.
The water came up to the 2nd to last step to the 2nd floor of his SI home. He told me the 1 level bunaglow type houses were the worst - no chance - flooded almost immediately. It seemed no one heeded the evac notice or paused to remember that their homes are built on/below sea level. Maybe it was because Irene was, relatively, a non-event. Everyone was home.
They were glad for his help.
Racked up mad karma. I think he needed it. He makes his money ... in dubious ways.
Isn't it ironic... don't ya think?
