Two People Shot In California High School

Tyler Durden's picture

With gun tzar Joe Biden expected to propose his "gun recommendations" to Obama by next Tuesday, a proposal which will certainly involve some additional measure of gun control, the last thing the nation needed was more gas being poured into the fire today. Yet that is precisely what it got following news that two people had been shot, one of which reportedly a student, at Taft Union High School in the San Joaquin Valley in California earlier. From AP: "A student was shot and wounded at a San Joaquin Valley high school Thursday and a suspect was taken into custody, officials said. The shooting occurred about 9 a.m. at Taft Union High School, an oil and agricultural community about 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The student who was shot was flown to a hospital in Bakersfield, said Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff’s Department. There was no immediate word on the victim’s condition. “We have a suspect in custody,” Pruitt said, adding that the person was believed to be a student. Pruitt said it’s believed a shotgun was used in the attack. KERO-TV Bakersfield reported that the station received phone calls from people inside the school who hid in closets."

Reuters adds: "A California ABC affiliate reported that sheriff's deputies were going room-by-room to secure the school and that two people had been shot, but had no immediate word on their condition. It said the shooter had been apprehended by police." Needless to say this will merely inflame tensions over both the cause of such incidents, as well as the mandated response, yet will hardly lead to an amicable resolution for people on both sides of the argument.

Meanwhile, USA today reports:

Vice President Biden said Thursday that he plans to deliver his gun violence task force's recommendations to President Obama by early next week.

"I have committed to him that I will have the recommendations to him by Tuesday," Biden said.

The vice president's comments came at the start of a meeting with representatives of hunters and wildlife interest groups. Biden was tapped to develop a broad set of recommendations for Obama in the aftermath of last month's shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

The vice president said he is considering several recommendations he has heard repeatedly from stakeholders — including instituting universal background checks and limiting size of high-capacity magazines.

"There is a surprising, so far, recurrence of suggestions that we have universal background checks," Biden said.

Later Thursday afternoon, Biden and other senior administration officials will meet with representatives from gun rights groups, including James Baker, legislative director of the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA).

Biden, along with Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, are also scheduled to meet with entertainment industry executives later Thursday.

At this rate February is shaping up to be quite an active month: the debt ceiling, the sequester, possibly more tax hikes, and to top it all: gun control. At least the market is convinced that all will be promptly and effectively resolved, if few others.

There are a few differences now.  1) the internet has awakened the grass roots and they're prep'd for a major world war like never before.  2) half the country doesnt need convincing and already believes our present govt is anti american 3) the present system is about to implode and they can't even finance their own existence. 4) you could see an underground liberty movement develop that would make alkaida look like childs play.

1) Bullshit.  Not even 1% are "prepped" for anything. 2) Doesn't matter what they believe, they won't do anything.  3) No it won't implode, not when they can borrow unlimited printed currency. 4)  Bullshit.  Any so-called "liberty movement" would be just talk, no action.

I suggest you give up those fantasies and get used to living in a bananna republic.

What you gun nuts fail to realise or won't acknowledge is the evil in man. The only thing limiting a lunatic from killing everyone is his ability to access suitable weapons.

The UK has about 550 murders per year, 35 of them are gun related. Gun murders sum 6%. ( guns banned )

The USA has 16000 murders per year, 11500 are gun related. Gun murders 62%

It is simple people who have access to weapons like guns will use them with devestating effect. This is not 1776, the British are long gone. The right to bear arms should be a priviledge.

The gun lobby does exactly what it accuses the government of doing: Black propaganda.

Reading your ‘contributions’ to the debate on ZH we can understand your somewhat optimistic view that things will end up just fine and this time it will be different, etc.

What I was trying to say was for your benefit, albeit with a bit of humor, which progressives always struggle with.  Sure you can defend yourself and your family with a Taser and a can of pepper spray.  However, should you encounter either some real Red Necks from the Bayou or some Brothers from the Hood looking for some retribution for all the fuckin’ wrongs it may not end well for you. Just sayin'.

I, for one, prefer to rely on 7.62 X 51 or 308 Win.  Not sure of this but Alex Jones strikes me as more of an AR15 5.56 X 45 (223 Rem) fan boy.  What I call the ultimate long range Rabbit Gun or Coyotie for that matter (Just joking Dude).

The video should be instructive on relative ballistics should you change your mind on the self defense thang … but each to his own.

How many school aged kids were murdered with guns in Chicago last year?  Chicago, the city with very strict gun laws.  But no one heard about those murders because no one really gives a shit about dead gang bangers.  I mean, I dont.

Gun laws do not lower violent crime.  In fact, they increase it.  This is a known fact, but gun control laws are not about reducing violent crime. Gun control laws exist for one reason and one reason only:  to turn free men into slaves.

It would also force society to face the real issue of violence in America: that violent crime is committed dispropotionately by a small number of people belonging to a certain culture.  Its not PC to discuss this, so it isnt.

You may think Im referring to a specific race, but Im not. Its culture, not race, that creates the violent criminal.

Guns and Schools – Problem Solved

The solution to the problem of guns and schools is freedom of education.

After giving parents absolute control over any tax dollars spent on their children's education, they will naturally choose not just the best education – but the safest.

Ten million free market experiments in education can find ways to serve customers (parents and kids) better than a panel of 10 government experts with their corrupt, bureaucratic, obsolete, ineffective, one-size-fits-all, mandatory programs – of the unions, by the unions, for the unions.

Likewise, ten million free market experiments in safety can find ways to serve customers better than a panel of 10 government experts.

It is no secret that the Democratic Party is the side advocating a panel of 10 government experts. Therefore, parents should have been asking, "How is it that the party of equality is so obsessed with appeals to the authority of elite opinion?"

It is no secret that it is the Democratic party in bed with the unions. Therefore, parents should have been asking, "How is it that the party of choice is so anti-choice?"

Certainly many customers will choose solutions to school safety that involve guns used for the purpose of self defense, and it is no secret that the Democratic Party is the party that wants to disarm the people. Therefore, parents should have been asking, "How is it that the party that says it wants to empower the little guy is the party that wants to disarm the little guy."

Make no mistake. The Democratic Party is all about conformity, control, and government dependence. That is how they have played their role in destroying the Black community – and America.

Don’t get fooled into thinking that the Republican Party is the answer. They have a different role to play in destroying the Black community – and America. Together they are like The Prince who divides us against each other, as described by Machiavelli. For some issues one is the good cop while the other is the bad cop. On other issues it is the reverse.

Of course, any voter or low level politician who sincerely supports freedom of education will thus be drawn to the Republican Party, the Libertarian Party, and/or the Tea Party, but the Republican Party is controlled by the Neocons (Republican Progressives). Like the Democratic Party, the Neocons don’t want freedom of education. They are also obsessed with appeals to authority, and they also want to disarm the little guy. Like I said, the Neocons are Republican Progressives.

We are Americans. How is it that we have less freedom of education than just about any country in the world?

Any who would attempt a solution as big as freedom of education cannot succeed unless they understand that both parties, as well as the mainstream media, are front men for the Global Money Masters. Any movement to implement freedom of education would thus precipitate very strong and sophisticated resistance backed with infinite money, infinite patience, and initially – infinite force … but that is the key. The force comes from us.

Once we understand the reality, we will choose to not cooperate.

Once we understand the reality, we will choose freedom.

Freedom is the Promise of Reality.

Freedom of Education is motivated by, and would strengthen, the Soul of Humanity; whereas, the conformity and hierarchy of our current system is motivated by, and strengthens, the Soul of Animals.

Shootings occur in inner city schools quite often.  No national attention is normally paid.  Now, with all the emotion-driven idiots ranting for "control" of the least used firearm in crimes, assault weapons, many being the very same people who realize, correctly, that the "war on drugs" doesn't work while somehow not realizing that a "war on guns" will be equally ineffective in keeping guns out of the wrong hands, the rant is nation-wide and every shooting "newsworthy."

Never mind facts that even Time Magazine had to admit:

Australia's Gun Laws: Little Effect

http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1736501,00.html

And here are the top ten guns used in crimes in the U.S. in 2000, according to an unpublished study by U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms obtained exclusively by Time Magazine. The list is derived from the center's investigations of 88,570 guns recovered from crime scenes in 46 cities in 2000:

1. Smith and Wesson .38 revolver
2. Ruger 9 mm semiautomatic
3. Lorcin Engineering .380 semiautomatic (a cheap "Saturday Night Special")
4. Raven Arms .25 semiautomatic (a cheap "Saturday Night Special")
5. Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun
6. Smith and Wesson 9mm semiautomatic
7. Smith and Wesson .357 revolver
8. Bryco Arms 9mm semiautomatic (a cheap "Saturday Night Special")
9. Bryco Arms .380 semiautomatic (a cheap "Saturday Night Special")
10. Davis Industries .380 semiautomatic (a cheap "Saturday Night Special")

I don't see an assault weapon which typically costs $800 to $1400 anywhere in that list, do you?  Why is that?  Because only 10 to 15% of guns used in crimes are stolen guns.  The most common ways criminals get guns is through straw purchase sales where someone without a criminal record buys a gun for someone with a criminal record who would not pass the background check.  What kind of concealable gun would they purchase when they might have to ditch it after the commission of a crime?  An unconcealable $800 to $1400 assault weapon?  No, a cheap "Saturday Night Special" pistol they can just throw away if needed.

In a 1991 BJS Survey of state Inmates, about 8% of the inmates reported that they had owned a military-type weapon, such as an Uzi, AK-47, AR-15, or M-16. Less than 1% said that they carried such a weapon when they committed the incident for which they were incarcerated. A Virginia inmate survey conducted between November 1992 and May 1993 found similar results: About 10% of the adult inmates reported that they had ever possessed an assault rifle, but none had carried it at the scene of a crime.  A Virginia inmate survey covered 192 juvenile offenders. About 20% reported that they had possessed an assault rifle and 1% said that they had carried it at the scene of a crime.  These figures are reinforced  by a 1993 Bureau of Justice Statistics report that violent criminals only carry or use a "military-type gun" in about 1% of the crimes nationwide.

Oh, and, by the way, a high percentage of those surveyed probably already had criminal records when they owned those guns... and that's already ILLEGAL.  Funny, for some reason, criminals don't pay attention to laws.  And schools are free fire zones for criminals... oops, I mean "law abiding citizens are not allowed to possess firearms" zones.

New Jersey police statistics show that only 0.026% of all crimes there involved "assault rifles."  Over 100,000 police officers delivered a message to Congress in 1990 stating that only 2% to 3% of crimes are committed using a so-called "assault weapon." In Florida, only 3.5% of the guns recovered by the police were guns that could loosely be defined as "assault weapons."  The California Department of Justice suppressed an official report showing that "assault weapons" comprised only 3.7% of the guns used in crime in California. While the report was eventually leaked to the media, it received little press coverage. A special Virginia task force on assault weapons found that only 2.8% of the homicides involved "assault-type weapons" during 1992.  In Connecticut, the Department of Public Safety reports that only 1.79% of all confiscated firearms are "assault type weapons." The New York Times reported that, "Although New Jersey's pioneering ban on military-style assault rifles was sold to the state as a crime-fighting measure, its impact on violence in the state . . . has been negligible, both sides agree."

well,

Now, with all the emotion-driven idiots ranting for "control"

I think we can all agree the "emotions" are running high, from all sides of this argument - let's at least try to remain honest with ourselves as this fiasco continues to unfold.

"control" over "other" people and their behaviours - that's a recurring theme, and it's very very emotional, sadly,

this is where we are now, amrka.

All of those guns listed are cheap guns.  I am not putting down RGR, SW of Mossberg but each one listed is probably $300 or less and even less used.

Like you mentioned - concealable.  Rifles are not easy to conceal.

Although New Jersey's pioneering ban on military-style assault rifle

What is a military style assault rifle?  An AR15 is a semi auto rifle.  Criminal Jon Corzine caused more damage and destruction in NJ and elsewhere than AR15s.

It's all to keep the children safe (everyone is told):

People are upset. President Obama looks upset.
Something must be done for the children.
Guns kill, or for the few who do not anthropomorphize the inanimate, people with guns kill.
How about reducing “gun” violence (actually not all gun violence, only violence by current legal gun owners)?

First make all current legal gun owners register and submit to new “trustworthy” evaluations.
Keep guns from the “untrustworthy”.
Can’t predict which people are untrustworthy?
Can’t identify, so take ALL “assault” weapons from everyone (except government which of course is trustworthy).
Only “gun nuts” object, gun nuts are untrustworthy ,and therefore anyone who objects is untrustworthy.
But “assault” confiscation will presumably not stop killings, just may lower the body count per massacre (we see where this is headed).

Since the “children” will not really protected just by having a lower body count, presumably either before or after the next incident, ALL guns in the hands of citizens should be confiscated.

Despite studies showing legally armed citizens deter criminals, and foil burglaries/home invasions about a million times annually,
Despite the history of pogroms, massacres, purges, lynching, round-ups, and ethnic cleansing of disarmed citizens,
Despite the tyrannies that have begun by ignoring basic human rights, habeas corpus, protections against torture etc.,
Despite the misconduct and malevolence of our government abroad as well as at home,
Despite a proposed new expansion of government bureaucracy, policing, and surveillance,
...we are to deem our government trustworthy, and surrender yet another civil protection, however weakened it may prove after having already surrendered so many other protections, because allegedly something must be done for the children.

Some might admit that other measures would actually be effective and do something to reduce violence against children (and others):
- ending the war on terror (Obama’s drones alone have killed over 200 innocent children, and that‘s just a drop in the bucket).
- ending support for despots, sheikhdoms, and apartheid regimes
- ending Prohibition II, the war on drugs and the mass gang- networking prison system
- ending the policies that reward banksters and corporate globalisation, to the detriment of our own and foreign economies
- ending the neglect of infrastructure investment and environment to the priorities of militarism and financial parasitism
- ending the doping of children with psychotropic medications, and their physical deterioration from unhealthy foods

Nonetheless, everyone is told, restoring lost rights and ending government-made causes of violence at home and abroad need not come before any disarming of citizens because

we have to “do something”
“now”
for the children.
President Obama said so.

So let’s prioritize disarming citizens

completely.

What harm could there be in that? (asked and answered)

Police Take Pregnant Woman Out of The Hospital Then She Dies in Jail

“A Pauls Valley family is forced to deal with tragedy after a 33-year-old mother dies from a medical condition while being held at the Garvin County jail. The victim in this case is Jamie Lynn Russell. Jamie also used the last name of Fisher. Her death came just hours after she went to the hospital seeking help for severe abdominal pain.

“Jamie was seeking help; she was in extreme pain,” family friend Kemper Kimberlin said.

Hospital staff reported Jamie wouldn’t cooperate, in too much pain to even lie down, so employees asked a Pauls Valley police officer to assist. Unfortunately, when police found two prescription pills that didn’t belong to Jamie, police took her to jail for drug possession. That’s where Jamie sat for less than two hours before being found unresponsive.”

“There is nothing my staff in the jail could’ve done differently,” Garvin County sheriff Larry Rhodes said. Sheriff Rhodes points out the hospital staff authorized Jamie’s release to their custody.

I have a suggestion. Go to Newtown Conn, put yourself in the middle of town with a bullhorn, and tell all the folks around there what liars they are, how they faked the whole thing as a statist plot to disarm Americans, their kids were never hurt, and America will not sit still while they fool the world.

You won't do it. Nor will anyone like you. Nor will the NRA or any of their PR firms. Not alone, not in a crowd, not as a full-page ad in the local paper. Not as a magazine article. Not as a book titled "The Faked Up Shootings At Sandy Hook are Fake" and not in any other fashion.

Because you don't believe your own story and you won't spend a dime or risk a bloody nose to spread that story in public in person even though according to you it is the greatest coverup the world has ever seen evar.

And that's why you are entertainment and not news.

Alex Jones: Best Night of Television Ever | LewRocwell.com by Jon Rappopo, InfoWars

Piers Morgan (CNN) thought he might pump up his horrendous ratings and avoid having to go back to England. So he invited Alex Jones to come east and appear on his show.

They would discuss gun control and the petition to have Morgan deported. It would be good television. An interesting conversation. Perhaps things would get contentious.

But Morgan’s producers and bookers had made a fatal error of judgment.

To say Alex was loaded for bear is a vast understatement.

He crashed the television party in a way it’s never happened before.

You could call it: the internet invades mainstream media. But that doesn’t begin to do it justice

This was one man attacking the whole rotting corpse of major media, attacking the fascists of the federal government, attacking the psychiatric/pharmaceutical cartel for dispensing drugs that cause people to kill other people, attacking the host of the show for daring to come to these shores with his putrid put-on Brit arrogance, attacking the brain-dead premise that fewer gun murders equals a far, far better nation (England), swearing an oath that the US government will not disarm the citizenry…and Alex made all this happen in just the first seven minutes of the interview.

You  could go back in the archives and comb through the history of television in this country and never find seven minutes like this. Never.

It broke through the fake civility of moronic, pundit-driven, stacked-to-the-ceiling-with-utter-bullshit news programs like a car driving through a showroom window at 80mph.

Go to infowars and watch it.Then tell yourself you’re not dreaming, because you’re not. It happened.

If you were, by chance, tuned to the BCS championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame and missed the real slaughter on CNN, catch it.

According to Alex, one of Pier’s producers broke down and cried during the interview. Oh dear. Horrid. I hope the producer had friends to console her in their little mutually constructed elite bubble. Cocktails, tranqs, perhaps a visit to a shrink might be in order. No doubt, this is a case of PTSD, and might necessitate a long recovery. Read the rest of the article

Any body getting tired of all this gun talk? Enough?

I've got a small arsenal, kind'a one of each type. They look lethal, in the right hands they could do a lot of damage. I have lots of ammo (enough for a small regiment) and accessories for all of them. I've practiced with them so I know how to use each of them for any number of different scenarios. Now, there they sit, hidden from view. Waiting...

I got them for one reason and one reason alone. Defend myself and loved ones. That's all. Do I want to use them? Hell no! Shooting someone, killing someone is something I would have to live with for the rest of my life. When I go there, in my mind, my ego/small self thinks "yeah, baby! Defending righteousness!"! But my Higher Self, the centered, grounded part of me, the side that loves humanity and creation thinks "What has this world come to? How low can we go? Why me?" If I could only take a week or two off the internet I might find some peace of mind.

Obama gun plan may feature background checks on all buyers

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-guns-nra-20130111,0,6619195.story

... Speaking to reporters Thursday, Biden said he had found a "surprising recurrence of suggestions" for "universal background checks" in meetings with interest groups.

... Feldman, a former NRA official whose current group is more open to tighter gun laws, said he told administration officials, "If we focus on the gun, we miss the opportunity to zero in on the problem that unifies us, which is in whose hands are the guns."

But the National Rifle Assn., which sent a representative to Biden's meeting Thursday with gun organizations, issued a chilly statement, an indication of the challenge ahead.

"It is unfortunate that this administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems," the NRA statement said.

NEWSFLASH:

White House denies petition to deport Piers Morgan.   In Carney's statement explaining the White House's decision to allow Morgan to remain in the U.S., he acknowledges that the Second Amendment does guarantee citizens the right to bear arms, but reiterates the First Amendment guarantees the freedom of the press.

Here's what we are up against y'all.  Check your emotions at the door - the forces of darkness are cranking up the neurolinguistic programming machine against law-abiding gun owners.  Courtesy of SEN Dick Durbin- dated today 1/10/13 - original correspondence follows:

"Have we really reached a point in this nation where shooting a congresswoman point blank in the face or killing a roomful of first graders in Connecticut no longer moves us?

I don't believe that for a minute.

In the month since the devastating Newtown massacre, momentum is growing to do something about the number of gun murders in this country:

We announced several gun-safety bills in Congress since the new session began last week; Vice President Biden's guns task force is expected to make its recommendations by the end of this month; and prominent leaders like Retired General McChrystal, Former Representative Giffords, and New York Mayor Bloomberg have publicly endorsed gun control proposals.

Despite the growing majority demanding solutions to gun violence, the NRA's tone-deaf response -- that the solution to shooting rampages like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School is to increase the presence of guns in schools -- reminds us of what we're up against.

And it reminds us that we won't prevail until we lead -- it is our obligation to increase the drumbeat for change until real reforms are in place.

Nearly 19,000 grassroots activists like you have signed on to the Committed Majority for Sensible Gun Laws. Will you join them?

Click here to add your name to our petition at CommittedMajority.com: Call on this Congress to institute reasonable limits on firearms now.

We advocate for simple, commonsense solutions:

  • Bar those with a history of serious mental instability or violent crime from owning weapons;
  • Outlaw the sale of weapons that are strictly for military use and have no useful purpose in sport, hunting, or self defense;
  • Ban magazine clips with more than ten rounds from civilian use;
  • Restrict the number of firearms a person can buy in a month;
  • Require firearms within the reach of children to have protective locks.

We the people must find the courage to act for the good of our nation and the safety of our families. And to do that, I need your support today.

Thank you,

Dick Durbin
U.S. Senator"

Gun control? You mean the effects of lack of gun control.

I'm starting to support the idea of gun registration (and piecemeal confiscation).

Why?  Because 2A right is also a responsiblity to stop govt tyranny, and nobody is doing the responsiblity part, just whining and bitching about govt tyranny.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state ..."

That's the responsiblity part.  The "well regulated militia" has a responsiblity to maintain "a free state".

GOs aren't doing that.  They sit idle while govt tyranny increases to levels far beyond 1776.

They're not even a "well regulated militia".  There's no organization at all. No standards and no mandatory training like the Swiss citizen militia has.

Not one single state is doing anything to form a "well regulated militia", hence no force anywhere near capable of going up against the feds to "maintain a free state" (stop govt tyranny).

GOs won't talk about the responsibility part because they utterly fail on the responsibility part.

They believe some rag-tag disorganized bunch of GOs will magically come together some day, march on D.C., remove existing people in power, and restore a constitutional govt.

Its pure nonsense.  A stupid fantasy, nothing more.

When people have the right but fail to carry out the responsibility that goes with it, they should lose the right, they don't deserve it anymore.

America will slide into full police state and GOs won't do a thing about it, so they deserve to lose the means to do something about it.
