Guest Post: Why Don't People See
I meet people that still believe that the world is fine. They believe things like:
- The US government has plenty of money.
- Government cares for its citizens.
- The economy cannot crash.
- We are not in a recession (Depression).
- The lives of their children will be better than their own.
- The government can continue to print money to fund promises they cannot afford.
Despite these untenable beliefs, these are not stupid people. Many are professionals who do quite well — doctors, lawyers, dentists, college professors, etc. They are not zombies, our walking dead, have no idea about what is happening around them no less the way things work in an economy, society or the world. It is our educated who should care yet seem to be oblivious to what lies ahead.
The ignorance and/or lack of concern of this group is perplexing and maddening. They are certainly capable of understanding. It is also in their interests to comprehend, as they are the ones who will lose the most. How does one open their eyes? What can they be shown to arouse them from their ignorance?
Sadly, I don’t have answers to these frustrating questions. It is not that others have not presented the information as much as these people refuse to acknowledge the implications. Are they all too busy? Are they idiot savants who are geniuses in their fields but not very smart away from it? Warnings come from many sources and from many different perspectives, yet they do not seem to penetrate the minds of those most capable of effecting change.
From a self-interest standpoint, this productive group should be the most concerned. After all, they are ground zero for the Socialist schemes that are destroying society. They are the ones that will be crushed in the redistribution dreams of our political class. Will they awaken too late? Or, will many of them just withdraw their productivity by retiring early, emigrating, etc.?
I don’t have answers to these questions, but I do know that this professional class is about to become prey for our predatory State. And, when that happens, they will hurt but not nearly as much as the rest of us.

A .1%er I talked to last night said he had the absolute best January returns ever.
I put in a 2-cent warning, he disagreed, and that's that. He thinks the market will roll-over giving him time to exit... I hope it does.
If Bernanke puts the Eaarth's debts on his books as a line item, and then passes away, are they extinguished? Being a private corp. and all. Perhaps he is the savior he believes himself to be?
Saint Jublilee.
'man will always try to outlive his future were it not for cyclicality, bringing him back into the past... that somehow is always present in ones lifetime, yet ignored by ones selfish serendipity awash in vainglorious allusions of narcissistic solidarity-- the nebulous effervescence delusion of a grandeur'd curse upon this ubiquitous humane`neutrality makeup we fawn as a unique singularity... that of a generic genome swimming in a pool of darwinian reality-- where failure or success has but one winner... death'
Let's discuss gun control. It fits with this topic.
The majority of people will believe the information handed down through popular media and the gov.
11 States in the US have more people on welfare than currently employed. All good I guess, you never hear it on Bloomberg ofcourse, the haven of the pundits, and a mouthpiece of the administration of the Bozo.
Alabama
California
Main
Mississippi
Hawaii
New York
Illinois
New Mexico
Kentucky
Ohio
South Carolina
And what they don't tell you is that the statistics, according to the 1980 way of measuring amounts to the following:
Bogus unemployment: 7.9 %
Real unemployment: 23 %
Bogus US GDP: +1.5 %
Real US GDP: -2.2 %
Bogus inflation: 2.6%
Real inflation: 10.2 %
But who cares, the pundits keep saying, "US is not Japan", "US is not Greece". So all fine and quiet on the western front.
good dogs do not bite the hand that feeds
and they also do not question the quality of
that which is fed so long as the stomach
stays full, that is what has been referred to
as "smart". they like their town with a little
drop of poison but that is the problem too.
perhaps the question is not whether the people
are smart but whether they are any good?
the universe will sort it out in good time.

Lyrics to Little Drop Of Poison :
(Tom Waits/Kathleen Brennan)
I like my town with a little drop of poison
Nobody knows they're lining up to go insane
I'm all alone, I smoke my friends down to the filter
But I feel much cleaner after it rains
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
Did the devil make the world while God was sleeping
You'll never get a wish from a bone
Another wrong goodbye and a hundred sailors
That deep blue sky is my home
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
A rat always knows when he's in with weasels
Here you lose a little every day
I remember when a million was a million
They all have ways to make you pay
.
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison
She left in the fall, that's her picture on the wall
She always had that little drop of poison.
My grandfather always said that specialists were stupid people that were very smart in one area.
Or as my wife would say, "I have never known a doctor who could balance his checkbook".

"The few who understand the system, will either be so interested from its profits or so dependent on it for favors, that there will be no opposition from that class." Rothschild Brothers of London, 1863
Well exactly. Upon figuring 'it' all out, debt money, fractional reserve banking, usury, a privately owned Central Bank... A government sold out to the highest bidder... A mainstream media owned in entirety by 6 companies... You have two choices, try to 'get while the getting's good' (the old "if you can't beat em, join em") or try to 'change the world'. I'll let you guess what probably 70-80% of people choose.
Might as well finish it--
"while on the other hand, the great body of people, mentally incapable of comprehending the tremendous advantage that capital derives from the system, will bear its burdens without complaint, and perhaps without even suspecting that the system is inimical to their interests." ~ The Rothschild brothers of London writing to associates in New York, 1863
"Winning is everything" Americans are inverenate scoreboard watchers (this is particularly true of Red state residents). How'd you play? Matters not. Ahead on the scoreboard? Then all is good.
And the scoreboard reads:
SP 1,520 (winning!)
Dow 13,950. (winning!)
Why the author cannot understand this is beyond me.
The lives of my children will because I'm teaching them what nobody ever taught me: to buck the entire system and live outside of the matrix. The freedom they enjoy from being completely self-reliant will be beyond comprehension.
Once the slave fears what is beyond the Plantation fence, the fence may be removed.
FEAR ! Bitchez !
A fully repressed ache that will not allow deviation from the "reality" presented by the Master.
If these zombies were to realize what is really going on they could do nothing to fix it - so I prefer that they remain ignorant.
Because once they have a group ephiphany the entire edifice will cash in a thousand pieces and Mad Max will be upon us.
I prefer to live my life as long as possible without eating dog food. So I hope they keep living in their illusory world and I hope they can keep kicking the can for decades
"Many are professionals who do quite well — doctors, lawyers, dentists, college professors, etc."
Other than the college professors, most of these people are conservatives who continue to believe our problems are because of the 47% who are the moochers and the takers, therefore all we need to do is cut or eliminate entitlement programs and the problems will be solved.
When you're the victim of Wall St/elite propaganda, sometimes you're the last one to find out you've been taken for a ride.
As a lawyer in my 17th year of practice I can only answer for myself -- which is very simply that although I read constantly I never read the right things. I found economics and finance boring in the first place and thought the stock market was just a casino I wanted nothing to do with. The voluminous political reading I did was red vs. blue b.s.
About 4-5 months ago someone recommended the Wiedemer book, which began to open my eyes. A lot of panicky reading and research followed and I wound up here at ZH among other places where I've been lurking for a couple of months.
There is enough money and status in these professions that a certain complacency sets in. In my case, discovering that I have been lied to my whole life and that everything I've worked for is likely to go down the toilet has put me in therapy. The worst part is I did what they said you're supposed to do and put all our extra money in real estate and the 401k, which is fine but completely illiquid.
So while I myself am glad to realize the true facts, I can see others perhaps subconciously wanting to avoid that emotional trauma. I have learned to find at least some relief from anxiety with each piece of gold and silver (and brass) I can stack. Food, too.
Thank you for sharing gob, I appreciate it, as well others here do, I'm sure.
God love ya, 'smack, God love ya. Stepping outside the matrix is indeed trauma of a deeply personal nature. Good on you to have the integrity to have your own thinking in the midst of a vacuum vortex of that which is acceptable to others. Just be careful. Keep a low profile. Do not try to reason others out of their slumber even if you feel the moral obligation. Best to ask a leading question, and gauge the nearness to the threshold of awakening. At the right moment you will know what to say to help the other step out of the web of illusion, just as you did. Keep the faith. Let go of your troubles as you go to sleep. Try to not take them up again when you rise.
Thanks both of you for your support. The sheer enormity and vastness of the problem is indeed Matrix-like and can be overwhelming. Fortunately my therapist totally gets it and has been great at keeping me calm and on task just working the problem. I have to go less often now than I did.
You are so right about not reasoning with others. I tried twice, with two of my best friends in the world. Their responses were almost identical, to the effect that "well if it gets to the point where I need to worry about how much gold I have then I'll have lots bigger things to worry about." I told both of them they were exactly right and asked what they were doing about it. They both effectively went away shaking their heads. Well, I tried.
This will be a mandatory annual test for every citizen soon.
Countries around the world are taking on more debt without any fruitful attempts to curb their expenditures. This has resulted in a much more fragile and artificially held up financial system which is on a much shaky ground than it was in 2008. In 2008 companies failed due to excessive leverage and debt and now countries are likely to default because they took on the same bad debt on themselves.
There is no economic recovery because all the efforts of politicians, government, central banks etc are focused on saving banks instead of targeting job creation which is the only way economy can recover.
The main problem is people form their opinions on what they see or hear on the media which only reports what their owners and sponsors want them to, otherwise they would'nt be in business. No prizes for guessing who controls the media.

"central planning is GOOD"
damn, why can't people see how successful the soviet state has been ?
We Americans are deeply in love with being comfortable. Soon our country will be full of jilted lovers!
it's like Johnny, who had never spoken even at four years old. His mother gave him some oatmeal one morning, probably bec inflation had kicked in and she couldn't afford boxed cereal anymore. Anyway, Johnny takes a bite and exclaims, "Yech, I hate oatmeal!"
His mother, so overjoyed at his new-found speech asks her son, "Johnny, Johnny why, o why have you been silent?"
Says Johnny, "Everything been ok til now."
Does anyone know anything about this? If it means becomming some sort of religious freak then forget it.
One People’s Public Trust Lawfully Forecloses Corporations, Banks and Governments for Operating Slavery and Private Money Systems.
http://wakeup-world.com/2013/02/18/all-corporations-banks-and-governments-lawfully-foreclosed-by-oppt/
In this situation, once the Corporate Government entity failed to demonstrate its legitimacy, control of that interaction could be assumed by you by introducing your own Terms and Conditions under which any interaction between you and that entity may continue.
In a post-OPPT world, your process for challenging the authority of alleged ‘Corporate agents’ (including those claiming to represent Government) is essentially:
Remembering that the agent no longer represents a corporate entity, a Courtesy Notice should be provided to the individual, including the ‘Terms & Conditions’ under which you will accept any future interactions. This both informs them, and allows them the opportunity to withdraw their unlawful claim against you. If the agent initiates further contact with you, they trigger a personal contract between you by indicating their acceptance of the terms you provided.
If a second agent of the same former corporation contacts you about the same claim, repeat the process with that individual also. Remember, corporations no longer exist. You are only dealing with other individuals.
Detailed guidelines for creating your own Courtesy Notice and Terms and Conditions are available at www.oppt-in.com/documents. The power is there for YOU to enact.
it's an interesting strategy, using the UCC as a form of jiu-jitsu. supposedly one of the authors is a lawyer who perfected it during the foreclosure proceedings on her own house.
at the least, this discussion is worth a listen imho.

on perusal; interesting idea. This assumes only one corporality throughout nature. In individual rights, the problem lies in a thing's spirituality, a non-physical corporality, where our rights originate, the reason they are inalienable (unable to be taken away), bec they are given (passive voice). This is interesting bec a system like this will i think evolve. The OWLegal system? As long as you pinch a bit of incense to the Emperor.
I'm not sure what definition of "stupid" would not include these people.
Brainwashed or liars.
They do not care because they know an 'american' government works for its 'american' middle class and that they know that the 'american' government will keep working for them as long as they are middle class.
Chinism, Get some rest. London opens in 8 hours!
I must hang out in the wrong circles. I know nobody that believes any of the above crap. I do know people who could care less and therefor have no desire to do anything about it. To busy getting what they can while they can and screw their childrens futures. I also know a large number that are, or feel, trapped and see no way out.
Guess I need to hang out in different circles
Normalcy Bias is a bitch, could get you injured or worse.

I think you have it right there. These are people doing well in the current environment. If things are going well for you right now, you have more downside from change than upside. Imagining change is therefore psychologically painful. Most people don't bother. They tend not to do well when change hits.
So true. I have a friend with multiple Ivy degrees who works in real estate and did not see the bubble building at all. We talked about it during 2002 - 2006 a lot and she had no clue. Real estate in her mind never went down and could always appreciate faster than peoples incomes. How, she could not explain she said...it just did.
The answer is simple: professional people aren't trained to think logically but only to repeat what they have been taught. To put it another way, they are not capable of original thought because they have been taught to repeat what they have learned.
Duh!
Agree, IT certifications are a perfect example of this.
Thats why I work in third world countries.
There's more freedom and innovation there than there is in the City or Wall St.
I disagree, they (we) are in fact trained to think logically but are force fed faulty premises. Logical deductions from premises I am learning years too late are inexorable. And depressing, another issue altogether.
The root cause is that 99% of the people in the US don't understand what money is.
It's not taught in public schools nor universities unless you sign up for a specific class.
I have a friend who is a brilliant physicist, considered for the Nobel Physics prize.
He argued with me that fiat money was better because it saves the expenses of mining gold!!
It's mostly the gay and lesbian community that believes like that.
I have my cigars, merlot and Columbo seasons 1-7 on DVD . Im good

I was reading about the 'educated' Turns out because they have spent so much time in educational institutions they are more indoctrinated than your average run of the mill sheeple.
Now what does that say about education? The educated are taught not to question authority, especially if they want a decent grade.
How much of the stuff which they taught at school has actually been helpful in your life? How many exam questions are totally irrelevant? The purpose of the state educaiton system is to indoctrinate, and the earlier they can take the young away from the influence of their families the better.
Thats what Waters wrote about in "The Wall" although those years ago
You can find these people everyday writing comments on the Huffington Post.
I have squandered my resistance,
For a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises.
All lies and jest.
Still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.
When I left my home and my family I was no more than a boy,
In the company of strangers,
In the quiet of a railway station, runnin? scared.
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters,
Where the ragged people go.
Lookin? for the places, only they would know.
Lie-la-lie ...
Asking only workman?s wages I come lookin? for a job,
But I get no offers,
Just a come-on from the whores on seventh avenue.
I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome,
I took some comfort there.
Oooh la, la, la ...
And the years are rollin? by me.
They are rockin? evenly.
I am older than I once was, and younger than I?ll be.
That?s not unusual.
It isn?t strange,
After changes upon changes, we are more or less the same.
After changes, we are more or less the same.
Lie-la-lie ...
Then I?m laying out my winter clothes and wishing I was gone,
Going home, where the new york city winters aren?t bleedin? me.
Leadin? me, to goin? home.
In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade,
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down,
Or cut him ?til he cried out in his anger and his shame,
"i am leaving, I am leaving."
But the fighter still remains.

I think its precisely because these people have listened to Authority all their lives and done quite well--so why change course now? In this case, Authority is the people doing the brainwashing: parents, teachers, politicians, the Media, bureaucrats, the CEO, etc. Think about about: they did what they were told, got the A (or equivalent), and were rewarded. Wash, rinse, repeat tens of thousands of times and presto: you're a well adjusted, prosperous cog in-the-machine. In fact, given how easy it is to get by by thinking within THE BOX, it would be a surprise if they DID question Authority. Many of them can no more do that than kick their mothers.
Yes, that is definitely part of it. It is also a lack of understanding of political and economic history. Doctors, lawyers, consultants, marketers are not financially literate in most cases. Importantly, the Fed has masked the downside with free money. Stock prices offset tax increases. That was the goal all along- boost asset values so the wealthier and professional classes feel richer, then start taking money from the to redistribute.
Game works until it doesn't. . Then, of course, NO ONE saw it coming.
Normalcy Bias FTW
My observation is they don't want to question what, why or how--they want to be told what to do when by someone with authority. Also they happened to ride a bubble and decided they're geniuses and everyone else are idiots.
I would also say they benefit from the authority line since they get to wield pseudo authority themselves from simply parroting instead of working out original knowledge.
You know, Noah said the same thing . . . .
Few want to feel like they are dry leaf being flung by hurricane force winds through the center of a firestorm. That is it on so many levels-societal degradation, toxic levels of corruption, resource depletion, financial/geopolitical meltdown.
It is looking down into the abyss and deciding to jump without a parachute because there is no parachute, and it is better than being pushed.
We have whole industries that rely on STUPID people. Emergency rooms and doctors. Pharmacies and EMS. All the "drug" wars. All the "safety" features and labels just to protect stupid people. The list is so long that I don't have time to list it.
Personally, I Like [Francis_ Sawyer] He has a brain , and is an intellectual contbutor for Z/H!
Yes, but he's been skipping synagogue.
The Jew thing is antiquated.
People are Awakening. Short personal experience.
I went to a local resturant that I frequent, I generally leave articles I am reading during lunch, on the table to be picked up and thrown away by the Waitress.
I just sitting down and a young girl who was cleaning up another table stops me and says,
"You're the one that leaves the articles aren't you? I looked around and quietly said yes, I guess I am. She then said as she took my hand to shake it, saying "Thank You' Thank you for what you do. I am not alone she said. I said, No, you are NOT alone. She said ..... Like that one you left the other day that likened Obama with Germany in the 30's..... She said, I don't think we had a real president since JFK...."
Now this was coming from a 20something young Black Girl. Ok?
Take good articles, leave them lying around in Starbucks, Resturants, Coffee Shops.
YOu NEVER know who you may awaken or give strength to.
One awakes three, Three awakes nine....
It is spreading....
There are 10x as many 'aware' people now as there were in 2001. We just need to make the same progress in the next 10-12 years. And they have to be made aware of the root issues... Fiat money, fractional reserve banking, usury, privately-owned central bank... The next biggest concern after that is the tremendous wealth disparity that has arisen as a result of the above. People know about income disparity, and think thats a problem, well, wealth disparity is an even bigger problem.
Think the richest man in the world is really the guy at the top of some Forbes list? What about the family fortunes that have been split and divided into 32,000 parts, just because different family members are nominally in charge it doesn't count as a massive fortune? The Rothschilds were the world's first billionaires. Back in 1850! Do the math on what a 4% return for 150 years looks like. It works out to $1 Billion becoming $360 Billion. Thats at 4%. Now imagine if you were financing wars, smuggling opium, insider trading, etc...
"Via Monty Pelerin's World". At first glance I thought it said "Monty Python's World". Would be fitting, huh?
My Aunt is one of those intelligent people who think Barry Soetoro is a GOD! It's a state of mind that is almost incomprehensible to me. I guess reality just frightens some people.
The is a lot of thinly circulated literature written in the late 80's and early 90's about the so-called new world order conspiracy. I read some pretty strange stuff with some bold predictions. Yeah, some of the stuff was wacked-out and crazy, but as I dig through some of the old literature, some of the predictions of the designed political and cultural changes (and the processes in place to accomplish the changes) were spot-on. Not meaning to convey any useful information with this post, other than to encourage others to think outside the box and dig deeper than Fox News or MSNBC. The main point of the article is tha the statues-quo for the once-powerful middle class is changing for the worse.
the culture of high paid professionals are perfectly programed to think in their professional manner. Their professional carrear depends on status quo and becoming a doosayer or pm hoarder is an abandonment of their belief system taught to them by the industries they are in( carefully planned by think tanks sponsored by the banking industry). A wake up call is not soemthing they have time for. I have had numerous extensive conversations with very wealthy professionals and unless their family taught them when they were young or had some prior financial trauma they will keep on grazing untill the preverbial bear bouncing on their chest and gnawing on their face.

I commented to a customer going through my line that the penny isn't copper anymore, he thought it still was copper.
It astonishes me how ignorant people are about money.
I had this chat with my dentist yesterday, it was my first visit in 11 years, (no cavities again, i needed a crown replacement) i noted a menagerie of new equipment in her office perhaps $300K worth, maybe more, she seemed happy and her daughter was taking over soon, her dental school paid out of petty cash. However most of her paying customers are white and elderly 50-95, most of her free customers (Friday free clinic another location) are young and Latino. By the time her daughter is ready to take over she won't have many paying customers. On top of that we have lots of foreign dentists moving in and lots of new technology, on the flipside Latinos don't have great teeth.
I am Jack's cognitive dissonance.
I supress truth.
I enslave Jack.
No worries. I am sure they will see when they get finanically raped.
I don't think so. It seems to me the same people clamoring to appoint themselves a king will still be decieved regarding the reasons they are in such train wreck. They will continue on in their illusion until they are killed by the same king they appointed.
I know why these educated people are indifferent. I have a family member who runs a department for a major corporation and he is college educated. We have had many a debate on the economy, and he thinks everything will be fine, and that things are not as bad as I claim. He is well read and he is very good with computers. He also can’t stand Ron Paul. Ron Paul supporters are viewed by him and his friends as "conspiracy nuts" who are always screaming that “the end is near”. Ron Paul was/is for sound money and responsible government fiscal policies. So, anything that Ron Paul is for, many educated Americans are totally against. Ron Paul was demonized by the Zionist controlled press, and sad to say, many Americans believed their lies.
Just a thought, but this 3-part post did a great deal for my understanding...
http://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2012/11/hipsters_on_food_stamps.html
Here's the part that hit me the hardest, it ought not be much of a revelation for most ZH readers, though...
It's a simple thesis and no one wants to hear it: hipsters may lack drive, but the world they live in wasn't set up by them, it was set up by their parents, i.e. the Dumbest Generation Of Narcissists In The History Of The World, the ones who magnified the importance and cost of college without having any idea of what should be its purpose, let alone its content.
If you want to tell me a 30 year old hipster should be lashed for not trying to better himself, I'll bring the whip, but the 30 year old chose his pointless major when he was 17 and you think the outcome is all his fault? A 17 year old can kill two people and still be considered too young to be criminally responsible, and anyway in that case you think the problem was video games and bullying. Of course Gerry The Hipster is made of soy and ennui, but there's plenty of blame to go around. When he was 17 the system incentivized him to destroy his life, tempted him with beer, babes, and BS-- and the promise of an upper middle class lifestyle provided he went to "a good school" (read: gave the system $100k of his post tax, pre-interest money), never mind for what. Like a good American, he did what he was told.
We are all Gerry The Hiptster.
Seriously, I strongly recommend getting a nice, large beverage and reading the whole thing. Part 2, in particular, should be right in the ZH wheel-house.
extremely insightful article, thanks.
Society is nothing more than individual psychology multiplied by too many to count. If narcissism is what drives this society, then only narcissism will explain it.
exactly
Preceding nearly every biblical calamity is the admonition: "Let he who has eyes to see and ears to hear."
We're imploding in self worship. Seemingly workable for awhile until all we're left with is a mirror.
"..They are the ones that will be crushed in the redistribution dreams of our political class...."
your predicate is somewhat mistaken and probably a symptom of the reason you are unable to comprehend the professional class' obtuseness.....the political class has no intent of redistributing income to the poor - it is redistribution to the elite - preferably those in the .1% - the place near and around the professional class....the usa is ruled by nazis and just as in germany they need this class to keep the wheels of oppression churning....only a few errant loudmouths will be crushed....
the professional class' life will continue as before oblivious to the concentration camps, mysterious disappearances, and murders by the state thugs.....the professional class felt very little pain during the on going financial crisis, and what doesn't affect them simply does not exist....life is good, dontcha know?
the only dreams of the political class are complete nazification of america and the establishment of one world rule.....the new world order of which hitler and bush sr spoke so glowingly....the 1000 points of light both of them used to great effect....
Its a reverse Robin Hood kind of socialism. And if people only got it there would be riots, consumer boycotts, hell... They would have to have Nuremburg for politicians, lawyers, bankers, who were implicit in all of this.
All of you are living in a dreamworld, hoping for an apocalypse that will never come.
Most people out there are trying to live their lives and find purpose. Just because most people on this site think that they are smarter and know something that the rest dont, doesnt make it so.
You waste your lives imagining conspirancies and that somehow "civilization" will end. I got news for you- the only ones not thinking clearly are yourselves.
Just because we will go thru difficult financial times in the future, doesnt mean that civilization will end. All of you thinking of living in some cabin, while civilization crumbles around you, are a bunch of morons.
MMC I hear you life goes on and it is short for many people...civilization is over for everyone that passes away in death so civilization is ended everyday.
Our problems are beyond financial they are spiritual at their very root.. they lie within not without..
Make that "dreading" the apocalypse. You have to be crazy to welcome it.
And good luck on your "run through the jungle" through the many Detroits yet to come absent your firearms because the nanny state wants you stripped and defenseless so as to better control you.
I haven't seen one single person on this site talking about the 'apocalypse,' other than you ofcourse, so I'm not sure where you're getting this.
If by apocalypse, you mean the collapse of a broken system, then sure, but that isn't the end of the world or the end of civilization. If anything, it will be an opportunity for humanity to finally break free from this shell which has always bound us. We can grow into a tree.
I'm (supposedly, allegedly) a member of the professional, overeducated class and I can tell you I'm not sitting by idly (I call it quite ironically, community service). Regardless, my neighbors and family and friends don't give a crap, have their heads stuck up their a##, and continue to vote for wealth transfer and free stuff. Except they don't realize it isn't free, and stealing is immoral and unethical, and the crony corruption rampant. They have not a clue how valuable freedom truly is. Good luck to all of you out there fighting the good fight. Having grown up in the 70s, we are about to repeat that (and only that, if we're lucky).
Americans actually live in a debt slavery society, headed into deeper debt insanity. The average American has adapted for many generations to be "successful" within that debt slavery system.
People are not too stupid to understand ... however, their schedule of reinforcement, for many generations, has been to reinforce them not wanting to understand the real situation.
All of their past personal "success" was based on being functional Uncle Toms inside of the debt slavery systems. They are deeply committed to believing in the bullshit that they were scientifically brainwashed to believe in. They were rewarded for agreeing to go along with HUGE LIES, while they would be punished for disagreeing.
Their entire lives, for generations, were built on the foundation of funamentally fraudulent financial accounting systems. They can not tear down their brains voluntarily, in order to rebuild on a more realistic and scientific understanding of their society.
They will have to have the system collapse underneath them, and upon them, before they MIGHT begin to think outside of their established social habits, and habitual action patterns, which were previously the most personally successful for several generations, if not longer.
I have THEORETICAL answers to these question, which go deeper into the philosophy of science, as the real reasons why these contradictions are building towards their psychotic tipping points.
However, as this article correctly stated, I have no practical solutions, since the overwhelming vast majority of the Zombie Sheeple will deliberately continue to NOT WANT TO UNDERSTAND!
P.S.
I will repost the link to my current work on the Canadian Political Contribution Tax Credit, which has proven, over and over, for a few decades, how and why people deliberately decide to do nothing, and do not want to understand the monetary and taxation systems that control their lives, and which are systematically destroying their future, and the future of their children even worse.
http://www.marijuanaparty.ca/article.php3?id_article=215
The basic reasons why 99% of the people are Zombie Sheeple, that believe in the biggest bullies' bullshit, are that those frauds were facked by force. The legalized lies were backed by legalized violence, over and over and over again! Any time that something starts to change to get better, the Vicious Wolf People that controlled the Zombie Sheeple resort to bigger legalized lies, backed by more legalized violence. Moreover, since the government is ACTUALLY controlled by the best organized gangs of criminals, the vast majority of people have been systematically herded inside of that social system, and therefore, can not understand it better, because they do not want to!
Furthermore, in order to actually understand the social reality, the Zombie People would have to move past the false fundamental dichotomies and impossible ideals that they want to believe in, since they have based their whole lives, and all their behaviors, upon that bogus world view. The covert government that controls the overt government does not hesitate to use illegal means to make sure they can continue to back up their legalized means of enforcing frauds.
The moronic upper middle class are those who have benefitted most from believing in the biggest bullies' bullshit, and will be the ones that will therefore be the most betrayed in the future. Of course, they do not want to understand that!
This article laments the ways that the mainstream morons are so deliberately ignorant. I have been worrying and working upon that problem in particular ways for several decades, only to come to the deeply dismal conclusion that there is no way to prevent the psychotic breakdown of the established runaway systems of force backed frauds.
I would prefer that was NOT the case! I wish that it was possible to do something else better, first ... However, I am not aware of any good reasons to believe that!
"Will they awaken too late?"
For sure! The only realistic solutions for that situation is for American society to go through psychotic breakdowns.
the simple answer is they are brainwashed to believe that all you speak of is for the conspiracy cards.
In my experience, people who are gifted with the ability to see and understand truth and reality are a special group of folks who probably account for maybe 15% of the population and are gifted with an ability at logical reasoning and independent thought. The great challenge for these people is in understanding what is going on around them and to join the dots. Happily, ZH is flush with people like this and we are surely the group who represent the greatest risk to the elites who seek to control us with lies and falsehoods.
This ability invariably has little to do with professional education or with being a lawyer, doctor or member of any other profession. I have met some doctors and lawyers who live on planet cuckoo.
There are two sides to every trade. A few days ago we had an article stating that 23% of Americans are illiterate. Now it's bookended with a piece on how the 'educated' are stupid, willfully or otherwise.
The Durdens are happy

Lacking common sense. Sure sounds like they're stupid to me.
The other day a posting on ZH said that 23% of Americans is illiterate. I think that the other 76.7% is ignorant. The remaining 0.3% reads ZH.
Work on building a self-sustaining lifestyle.
It's the only positive move forward.
I feel like I have a chance.
I don't know. I think this is sort of a silly article. Preaching to the choir, and no new information or slant on things.
Jest sayin'
I've come across these same people. They've never done the math.
They create a false reality because they know that they are completely unprepared for what lies ahead. That would cause them much stress and duress. Instead, they cross their fingers and build a reality which suits their desires, but it's a lie.
When I start supporting my arguments with numbers, You can see the panic it creates and they say things like "I can't talk about it, I don't want to talk about it, why talk about it.... ?" yada yada
I'm not prepared for the disaster that lies ahead either, but that's my fault and I'm trying to do something about it.
Debt jubilee
Once debt growth becomes exponential everyone knows it will never be paid back.
Repeatedly throughout history the same course has been taken with the same results.
Either hyperinflation or a debt jubilee.
People do not worry about the debt or the deficit because they will not have to pay it back.
As to their savings becoming worthless? That one they seem to less often understand, or perhaps the people who are capable of worrying about the debt already have their investments in real assets.
because we've been conditioned to beleive it will pass, whatever the issue it goes away everytime. bubbles come and go. stay the course, in it for the long haul etc..
BTW here's a neat chart with gold oil and nasdaq bubbles, although they start at different times and use % as the metric it is almost persuasive

It's not all that complicated, though it is frustrating. The problem is that they are modern liberals. This is a mental disorder. As herd animals they adhere to certain myths, the primary one being that the organs of dissemintation that they ascribe to, the herd sheperds as it were, cannot be wrong. People who go to the right schools, and who are "bright," as that word is defined at NPR, cannot be wrong. They are the ones bringing us into the new age of utopian social orders. For herd liberals what is critical is that they be perceived favorably by their peers. They have truncated their imaginations and will not permit the conception in their minds that the vehicle to their proposed salvation, i.e. the government, might actually be populated by incredibly stupid and self-interested mediocrtities who have not a clue what they are doing. Most important is to never, never, never allow that somebody like Rush Limbaugh may actually understand reality much better than the beautifule people. None of them understand money or productivity. Most of them work for organs that simply confer earnings upon them without the slightest concern for productivity (colleges, schools, government). The closest they come to reality is a tax levy and with unlimited funds devoted to the enterprise their setbacks are generally only temporary. Infinite pay raises are expected. None of them have the slightest thought that things as they could ever change in negative ways. Look at how baffled they are that Obama has not cured all ills yet. It MUST be sabotage! It must be Fox News! It must be those wascally weepublicans in the house, or the racist Tea Party! Despite the fact that this incompetent fuckwad has been President for five years without a single success in any field cannot penetrate the frenzy surrounding their political victory over the embarassingly uncool and hated Constitution and the legacy of dead.white.males.
They live on fantasies that all of this doomsaying is merely sour grapes because their wonderful policies have finally won the hearts of the"masses" for permanent. The brave new world is right around the corner, and they are not about to let naysayers stand in the way of Progress! As a fall-back position, they are certain that "the (stingy) rich" are sitting on unlimited money that can, and eventually must, be recovered and will supply all the deserving with plenty of funds for all their dreams to come true. In other words, the inmates are running the asylum. Intelligence and facts will not re-emerge until this cycle meets its inevitable end. Like Nazis in the Berlin ruins of 1945, they will sit there in perplexity wondering how the movement was betrayed.Until then, somehow it will all work out. But for now, smile stupidly, and only speak the mantras when among others in the movement.
Clark Bent: Beautiful, screen shot on that one.....thanks! "Brave New World is right around the corner......."
Watch the video I posted "below": "How Modern Liberals Think." You'll need some quiet time as it's not short, but it explains the culture of indiscrimitiveness that pervades this belief system that affects all sorts of people:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c
It's very important for more people to realize what is going on.
People do whatever makes them most comfortable as long as it still works. When it quits working they become open to new information. Hedge accordingly.
Back in the day - the day being 99% OF HUMAN EXISTENCE up to the Neolithic Revolution - all that mattered was reproductive fitness. Stupid was whatever prevented you and/or your kin-group from successfully breeding just enough to replace and not enough to disrupt your tribe's equilibrium with nature. Today, reproductive fitness has been banished from the consciousness and memory of 90% of Westerners, and there are functionally neither tribes nor kin-groups. But that doesn't mean natural selection has ceased to function. We simply moved its goal-posts mid-game, as it were. The path of least resistance is still the path of least resistance.
If we accept as our criterion the notion that "if it works, it ain't stupid", the modern go-along-to-get-along sheeple mentality is the optimal strategy and is not stupid is any way. The problem is that what has worked may at some point cease to work. Until then, the dynamic equilibrium is maintained.
The rest of us are the ones with sub-optimal strategies. Evolution cannot plan for the future, adaptations are always responses to present (on an evolutionary time-scale) circumstances. And reproductive fitness still operates, in glorious spite of modern man's incredible pretense and ego.
Adding my comments to page 11 of this fine thread ...
My wife, much to my continuing discomfort, is one of these. Masters Degree Education. Over time she has grudgingly come around a bit. I give her a D- in terms of the time its taken her to finally let go of a few obvious idiocies, and an A+ for her tenacity in trying to keep from accepting anything she does not need to give up, in terms of her delusions. Its been an impressive display of cog-dis.
"Outies" (people who have never fit in well with other people's games) generally know that systems which reward and punish are in fact the standard way of creating cohesive, expanding groups which aggregate greater power and control to themselves. Outies never got the hang of being "successful" by selling themselves to the group. Weren't capable of it.
"Innies" generally do not know how to live EXCEPT by selling themselves to the group and so internalizing the group's cult values. They deeply, existentially believe that is what defines them. Pity that. Reminds me of looking at photographs of Czarist military dinners with all the grand finery and plumbe, fancily dressed wives, etc...taken literally days before they were all slaughtered by the revolutionaries.
You don't have to talk to an Outie very long before you know them. Maybe 2-3 sentences. They are not believers. There is usually deep bitterness, sometimes humor.
Innies spend almost their entire efforts of communication with reiterating and voicing the "values" of the group. 100%.
I stopped caring a number of years ago. Stopped talking to people about any of this stuff. Everyone learns their lessons one way or another. Could be a costly education depending on your inclinations. I will appreciate watching the Innies getting their gonads handed to them. Great fun watching the Tutor enforcing the lesson.
Being an "outie" my entire life has cost me a dear penny on many levels. I have few friends. I endure the typical inner conflicts of working hard at a job and at the same time building a business in my "free time", while my "chronicly ill" wife skates along in her leisure picking and chosing her least efforts to contribute to our home and strained finances. She has the luxury of knowing that I have already prepared for the hard times, and why should she change anything she thinks...hey, free, ya know.
My solice is that I am free to do as I determine without concern of being brow beaten into abandoning a dream, a vision, a poem of my own making. I fail, but it is a failure which leads to successes. Hard won successes are indeed a sweet food for the soul. I owe no man but to love. And if the days ahead turn into a swirling storm, I will be as gracious as I can be to those whose visions of loveliness in days gone by were to be IN whatever. Even though that led to their demise.
Everyone should watch "How Modern Liberals Think." You'll need some quiet time as it's not short, but it explains the culture of indiscrimitiveness that pervades this belief system that affects all sorts of people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c
People don't see because they're taught to believe, not question (since birth: parents, teachers, priests, scientists, politicians, etc.), so they never really developed of the necessary logical capacity to look past appearances.
