Short Squeeze? Silver Surges Most In 7 Months

Tyler Durden's picture

Following yesterday's note on the near-record level of shorts in Silver futures, it is perhaps just a coincindence that spot silver prices are surging today - their biggest jump in seven months. Gold is also having one of its best 3-day runs in the last nine months, yet both moves are peanuts compared to what is going on in the "electronic" asset arena, namely the policy vehicle formerly known as "stocks" and BitCoin, both of which are racing for the title of most insane parabolic bubble ever.

Meanwhile BTC just hit $239 and S&P 500 futures are launching to new all-time highs as data points the other way...

"Cryptograhpy"?  You, sir, are the dumbass!

Some use the terms cryptography and cryptology interchangeably in English, while others (including US military practice generally) use cryptography to refer specifically to the use and practice of cryptographic techniques and cryptology to refer to the combined study of cryptography and cryptanalysis.

Someone posted this a while back as an explanation for the stock market,       "Once upon a time a man told a small village, “I will buy monkeys for $10 each.”

Since there were many monkeys in the forest, the villagers caught them and sold them to the man.

As the supply of monkeys diminished, the villagers’ efforts slowed, so the man offered them $20 each.

They renewed their efforts but the supply of monkeys diminished further, so he increased his price to $25.

Soon no one could even find a monkey in the forest.

The man increased his price to $50, but announced, “Since I must go to the city on business, I authorize my assistant to buy monkeys on my behalf.”

As soon as his boss was gone, the assistant told the villagers, “My boss has collected lots of monkeys. I’ll sell them to you for $35 and then, when he returns, you can sell them to him for $50.”

The villagers rounded up all the money they could and bought as many monkeys as possible. Then they had monkeys everywhere…

… but they never saw the man or his assistant again."

I dont know if you lot are following this or not.

Yesterday Thatcher kicked off.  Check it what I said, I said there would be street parties before this evening, well its only gone and kicked off.  Believe you me my American friends, this is some of the most viceral, deep seated hate inthemix has near ever seen.

A petition was uploaded this afternoon for Thatchers funeral to be paid by the private sector, or at her families expense.

This country is divided folk, this woman caused some of it, but I had no idea she might kick the whole fucking country off.

The Daily Telegraph has took down commenting, saying that they have never seen e-mails and threatened violence like it.

Thats what a very large group of folk here think of the lady.  Have a look.  I never thought the death of Thatcher could light the blue touch paper.  I may have been wrong.

Sorry for the thread jack, just thought some of you may like to know.

Not to rain on your parade, cuz I liked the article - But I've seen this movie a 100 times. As long as Ben has the power to move equities higher, and he certainly does, he has the power to crush the paper price of metals. He's as motivated on one as he is the other. Today's kneejerk blast higher was to my thinking just a way to shake a few weak shorts out, and the hedgies make a fast buck...or million. Ben has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that nothing less than a SUPER blackswan event will change anything he's doing, and that would only last a day or two. He's truly the ruler of the financial universe - and I hate that fact more than anybody.

Reverse split CREE back to 10 million shares float in 1998. Would you say that is in a parabolic bubble? What if the price of BitCoin on the global market is $796,000 as judged against other currencies. Would it be in a bubble? If banksters have decided to let BitCoin go and are actually getting behind it as a way to stimulate the economies of the world would BitCoin be in a bubble then. If major retailers announce accepting BitCoin for payment later in the year would BitCoin be in a bubble then.

What is this bubble term concerning BitCoin?

Parabolic price rises usually end in a fall that comes much quicker than the rise.   It could happen soon that someone buys $1000 worth of bitcoin and sees it fall in half by the next day.   Trees do not grow staight to the sky.  Good luck to all bitcoiners.

If it doubles again in week you could pay for a $150 graphics acelerator card in about 10 days by using it to mine.

I tried tellurium, but the price fell 90% last year after an alternative was found in the solar tech. My guess is that organic compounds will reign in that field. Nature is powered by solar after all, and what is more organic than Nature?

Tue, 04/09/2013 - 16:19 | 3428229 WhiteNight123129
WhiteNight123129's picture

Yep I know, I played 5Nplus last year but I took profit quickly because Tellurium is a by-product of other mining and the supply was coming fast. We need much higher volume of Solar used CAd Tel to make the price rise. I figured if the future is bright for Solar why not just buy the company which is the strongest in the industry right now, yet which a bunch of idiots are shorting? That is FSLR and the short squeeze is horrendous for those guys today.

The company will have 1 billion net cash by 2015, the market cap is 3.4 billions and the earnings per share will be at 5 bucks by 2015. This was completely idiotic to short htat company!

Tue, 04/09/2013 - 16:22 | 3428243 The Abstraction...
The Abstraction of Justice's picture

It seems to me a dangerous game, as any business dependent on particular compounds, rather than elements, is subject to advances in material science. Tomorrow solar may turn out to be so yesterday.

Tue, 04/09/2013 - 16:29 | 3428278 WhiteNight123129
WhiteNight123129's picture

It is a dangerous game. Fist Solar was a speculation to me, but a reasoned speculation. A company with cash flows earnings and a large cash balance with a lower cost of production and integrated turnkey focus with integration of financing on the project. So the best in class.

Now for Solar to be dead in the water costs have to stop plunging. This is where the counter-intuitive part is. Everyone is shorting companies because the price of what they sell plunge. But at the same time I would short Solar personally only if the cost of what they sell stop plunging. As long as it keeps falling that makes Solar more and more viable in more places, not just in deserts where there is no fresh water to power a coal burning turbine.

Tue, 04/09/2013 - 21:28 | 3429267 WhiteNight123129
WhiteNight123129's picture

Absolutely correct.

So what scares the shit out of me when being long First Solar is not the current silicon technology which sucks but third generation or amorphous silicon. I think that the tetrasolar acquisition actually fixes a good amount of htat threat.

Another problem is GE, I think they are going after C- Indium-Gallium- Selenide for now, but those have deep pockets and good enter the field.

However the more the games last the more the dust settles. I think the first wave of bankruptcy is now, we will have a another wave of growth next and then you take advantage of the change in sentiment ot sell if hte price is right and if the company has not raised its game. I think First solar is going after different technologies and it is the right move. Hedging their bets on technology and focusing on the processes, installation costs, inverter, turnkey capabilities etc.. etc.. They see themselves as a utility plant contractor trying to be not too dependent on a single technology bet.

Silver surges.....as US Dollar falls hard.  As PM's fall, US Dollar climbs - opposite holds true as is the case today.  Chart shows inverse relationship.

For the US Dollar to fall further, the Euro, Yen, GBP and CDN will need to climb substantially - these 4 currencies make up 93% of the weighting against the US Dollar.

What if maybe, just maybe, this whole Bitcoin thing becomes powerful enough to crush the very governments who try and stop it?

What I mean is, what if the money .gov and .eu spend trying to battle this phenomenon, coupled with the money they lose because of it disapperaing into the black market spells their demise?  What if it does nothing more than get people to understand what the fuck fiat currency is?  Gold and silver appeal to the "get off my lawn!" type here on ZH, but what about the millenials who have their noses in their iPhones all day?  Do you think Bitcoin would appeal to them?

What if 5 years ago I told you that there would be a new currency that would threaten fiats all over the world, and that's all you knew.  No details regarding its DNA.  No discussions of internet, big sis, and the like? On a grand-scheme-of-things scale would you be excited?

Bitcoin is P2P. So even if the Gov. shuts down the net, computer geeks will be in rage to get the internet back and would be linking all the computers up again, without the government involved.
The extent that computers are linked together determines how useful BTC is a a means of exchange.

Good news, but call back when silver is over $50.  Watching silver's second derivative is like watching the grass grow.

Bitcoin, would have been nice to get in before Cyprus, there is still some more to make I think. But in our time, if you don't hold it, you don't own it.

I own as much gold and silver as the next 'bug', but in order for the ideal scenario to bestow itself upon us as the 100 year reign of fiat bullshit money comes crashing down we have to have a crisis whereby afterwards the solution is to print more only the market says (FINALLY) FUCK YOU. Then and only then will the true fundamentals of this ponzi scheme global economy show its true colors where EVERYTHING crashes except precious metals. Until then, the despots will pile into the dollar during any risk-on corrections, thereby sending gold/silver lower.

I have to poop.

Paper sucks, you Wall Street fucks!

I'll see you vampires in the sun,
with my loaded silver gun.
Yer goin' down in flames,

from Lower Manhattan to the Thames. Your paper is I know not where,

I'd rather shit my underwear!

For, be there bull,

or be there bear,

silver is the suit I wear! (With gratitude, and apologies to Dr. Seuss.)

The only paper I own is the stuff I wipe my ass with.

Market paper is worthless, because I cannot do a good job of wiping my ass with it.

Gold was worth $28.00 an ounce when I was a kid.

Silver was worth whatever was printed on the coin you spent.

Any one think those days are coming back?

All of the lying bum fucking aristocracy of the Age Of Paper Power can burn in their paper suits soonest

I won't even bother pissing on them to put out the flames.

I collect gold, silver, lead, copper, real dry powder, food, tools, diesel fuel, and other useful commodities.

There is a community of folks all doing the same, so skill sets and extra eyes and hands can guard each others sixes.

That Jim Morrison moment is just around the corner.

"break on through to the other side, break on through to the other side, YEAH ! "

HFT ain't good for me.

Credit defaults far as the eye can see.

CDS's gonna make some messes.

Boo hoo hoo as thieves confesses.

TBTF gonna fall off a cliff - REAL NEAT.

Wall Street is a bunch of fucking dead meat.

Banks used to be so overleveraged bold.

Now, they're layin' bankrupt, dead and cold.

Gonna be nothing but prepper people,

all the rest gonna be surprised fucked up Sheeple.

God bless this mess. I must confess. I'm a fucking lousy poet,

and didn't even know it.

RISK ON, RISK OFF. DROP YOUR COCKS, AND GRAB YOUR SOCKS, BECAUSE THIS DISNEYLAND RIDE IS JUST BEGINNING !!!!!!!!!
