Short Squeeze? Silver Surges Most In 7 Months
Following yesterday's note on the near-record level of shorts in Silver futures, it is perhaps just a coincindence that spot silver prices are surging today - their biggest jump in seven months. Gold is also having one of its best 3-day runs in the last nine months, yet both moves are peanuts compared to what is going on in the "electronic" asset arena, namely the policy vehicle formerly known as "stocks" and BitCoin, both of which are racing for the title of most insane parabolic bubble ever.
Meanwhile BTC just hit $239 and S&P 500 futures are launching to new all-time highs as data points the other way...

First of all you didn't even spell it right: Cryptograhpy - there, now don't be a dumb ass.
"Cryptograhpy"? You, sir, are the dumbass!
Some use the terms cryptography and cryptology interchangeably in English, while others (including US military practice generally) use cryptography to refer specifically to the use and practice of cryptographic techniques and cryptology to refer to the combined study of cryptography and cryptanalysis.

Thank you for correcting me. xD
So much paper....so few assets.
In my mind I'm hearing the final few metallic plunks playing out on a jack-in-the-box.
Must....Goal-Seek....S&P 1,600....
Since there were many monkeys in the forest, the villagers caught them and sold them to the man.
As the supply of monkeys diminished, the villagers’ efforts slowed, so the man offered them $20 each.
They renewed their efforts but the supply of monkeys diminished further, so he increased his price to $25.
Soon no one could even find a monkey in the forest.
The man increased his price to $50, but announced, “Since I must go to the city on business, I authorize my assistant to buy monkeys on my behalf.”
As soon as his boss was gone, the assistant told the villagers, “My boss has collected lots of monkeys. I’ll sell them to you for $35 and then, when he returns, you can sell them to him for $50.”
The villagers rounded up all the money they could and bought as many monkeys as possible. Then they had monkeys everywhere…
… but they never saw the man or his assistant again."
Later, they were visited by a different gentleman offering to sell them shares in a monkey ETF ....
Were they Jooish? (Just wondering -- I'm sure there couldn't be any connection between their behavior and their tribal loyalties.)
You mean the monkeys? Or the monkey slave masters?
short monkeys!
I dont know if you lot are following this or not.
Yesterday Thatcher kicked off. Check it what I said, I said there would be street parties before this evening, well its only gone and kicked off. Believe you me my American friends, this is some of the most viceral, deep seated hate inthemix has near ever seen.
A petition was uploaded this afternoon for Thatchers funeral to be paid by the private sector, or at her families expense.
This country is divided folk, this woman caused some of it, but I had no idea she might kick the whole fucking country off.
The Daily Telegraph has took down commenting, saying that they have never seen e-mails and threatened violence like it.
Thats what a very large group of folk here think of the lady. Have a look. I never thought the death of Thatcher could light the blue touch paper. I may have been wrong.
Sorry for the thread jack, just thought some of you may like to know.
Who would have thought?
I mean she hasn't been in power since the eighties right?
I read an article in FT yesterday saying her policies contributed to today's employment which is at record highs over there.
She must have burned a few people.
Indeed, that's interesting ... come to think of those London riots ...
The fact that any politician gets a funeral with the public footing the bill has always pissed me off. The majority of these people leave office far wealthier than when they came into it, and taxpayers supposedly owe them some lavish, state-sponsored celebration when they finally kick the bucket?
My ass.
Thanks for the info... the communists grow bolder day by day. Every day I hear them conceal their agenda less. Even yesterday I heard a sound byte of a woman stating that we all need to stop thinking of our own children as our own and think of them as collective possessions of the whole community. Absolutely disgusting that someone's mind can get that fucking polluted... should be classified as a mental illness.
Just wait until Dick Cheney dies.........
What does not live, can not die.
I think it's only fair that the public pay for his execution and disposal.
Thanks for the commentary IntheMix - it's fascinating actually.
I am thick as fuck on a computer Luck, no problems though, I dont mind,
Things are looking fucking serious here, the old girl gets burned next Wednesday, and even this afternoon the old trade unions and NCB are promising an 'Episode' around the old girls burning. Fuck me, I hated her, I'm a fucking pussy compared to what some folk are doing, and planning.
Chin up, I hear out more I'll post it as a thread jack, but check out the Daily Telegraph.co.uk and try the twitter feed thatchersfuneral.
The hatred never left mate, its gone and simmered for thirty fucking years.
living in the UK during the Thatcher years woke me up to much of how govern-ment works, how cultures get shit on, manipulated, herded into alleys. . .
Maggie was one of a den o' thieves conspiring, where we all are now is no accident, and anyone paying attention to the long timeline can see it un-folding.
Let England Shake
time to show up!!!
It's for americans to understand unless they pay attention to british history.
So the sheeple go on worshiping!
amrkns ignore even their own history, substituting the fairytale versions they're fed along with the GMO, hormoned, soy-laden crap fud.
the feedlot analogy, damn if it doesn't grow more apparent daily.
I miss Scotland, but I also acknowledge one can never go back, things change. . .I'm grateful for the experience, timely.
Most the people with the deep seated hatred are Politically Correct types. I am no fan of hers, but I would not stoop to dancing on her grave. Even if Clinton, Blair and Cameron were all were buried in the same spot, I would not stamp on it. Juvenile.
Does anyone know what time Loew's or Home Depot opens? I'd like to go buy some tulips.
How about Electro Coin?
Just plug it in to an electric outlet and green backs mysteriously appear.
No virtual wallets needed, can't be hacked and no one will ever know how many Electro Coin dollars you produced.
I think I'll plant a money tree instead. :)
I'll trade you 3 bitcoin for a q.p. of pot. Oh wait this isn't Silk Road? Sorry wrong website.
one possible reason for this shoot to the moon is if drug cartels moving into bitcoin because of its anonymity and ease of international exchange.
Expect cashing out of bitcoins getting highly regulated by authorities
All sorts of dirty money in need of a laundry or hiding are fleeing Cyprus, Virgin Islands and other offshores...
I wonder how long until 1 bitcoin is worth more than 1 ounce of gold. A month, perhaps, at this rate? The 0.02 bitcoins I've got left on silk road will buy me a gram of weed soon, entertainingly.
Take time to smell the Tulips
But just don't eat them thinking they're onions as some idiot did during Tupip-mania and put his master in the poor house!
But does the Fed have any throttle left at this speed??
i can have "dvajKJIUhhnd8786shgJHJNln" or some american eagles clinking around in my pocket...decisions decisions...
FSLR LOL! Is Ackman short FSLR?
It seems the BOJ antic has unleased liqudity tsunamis. Stocks, PMs, bonds, bitcoins and everything that can be bought by clicking the mouse are going up.
@Duffmeister:
Not to rain on your parade, cuz I liked the article - But I've seen this movie a 100 times. As long as Ben has the power to move equities higher, and he certainly does, he has the power to crush the paper price of metals. He's as motivated on one as he is the other. Today's kneejerk blast higher was to my thinking just a way to shake a few weak shorts out, and the hedgies make a fast buck...or million. Ben has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that nothing less than a SUPER blackswan event will change anything he's doing, and that would only last a day or two. He's truly the ruler of the financial universe - and I hate that fact more than anybody.
Yup. Commensurate with VIX compression to zero. Fuck it right? Who needs protection when 3 batshit crazy Keynestards are ruling the financial planet.
Reverse split CREE back to 10 million shares float in 1998. Would you say that is in a parabolic bubble? What if the price of BitCoin on the global market is $796,000 as judged against other currencies. Would it be in a bubble? If banksters have decided to let BitCoin go and are actually getting behind it as a way to stimulate the economies of the world would BitCoin be in a bubble then. If major retailers announce accepting BitCoin for payment later in the year would BitCoin be in a bubble then.
What is this bubble term concerning BitCoin?
The bitcoin chart is what silver should have looked like in 2011... Both start from 15/20 usd and then surge. Silver got smacked at 50 by the utterly corrupt PTB. Will never forget this!!! Should have been at 150 like BTC.
Some say that in a parallel universe, silver IS bitcoin and bitcoin IS silver.
Sadly, you must ingest 400 micrograms of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide to gain entry to this parallel universe.
At the rate the markets are rising the Fed. won't have to tighten. (sell bonds) All the funny money will be in the markets, and a little jawboning about taking away the punch bowl will cause a huge portion of QE to evaporate instantly when the market selloff ensues.
This is why you buy the dips - especially when you know that the dips are manipulated. When the algos turn the switch to 'up' you don't have time to buy and end up kicking yourself. Fortunately, the down move was so bug you still have a way to run to the upside.
Parabolic price rises usually end in a fall that comes much quicker than the rise. It could happen soon that someone buys $1000 worth of bitcoin and sees it fall in half by the next day. Trees do not grow staight to the sky. Good luck to all bitcoiners.
If it doubles again in week you could pay for a $150 graphics acelerator card in about 10 days by using it to mine.
400 MHashes at $500 per bitcoin.
Think of this as an oppurtunity for a free graphics card.
If it falls to $500, given that I bought at $44 I will still be laughing.
Where else can you hide it after pulling it from Cyprus just in time? This is hot money looking for a cool, dry place.
You want Short Squeeze.
Think about Tellurium and Cadmium and First Solar BITCHEZZZZ!!!!
I am going to pop Champagne and toast to the American Technology, processes, and project management skills of First Solar.
And fuck Fox News bashing Solar Energy. Fuck those morons!!!
I tried tellurium, but the price fell 90% last year after an alternative was found in the solar tech. My guess is that organic compounds will reign in that field. Nature is powered by solar after all, and what is more organic than Nature?
Yep I know, I played 5Nplus last year but I took profit quickly because Tellurium is a by-product of other mining and the supply was coming fast. We need much higher volume of Solar used CAd Tel to make the price rise. I figured if the future is bright for Solar why not just buy the company which is the strongest in the industry right now, yet which a bunch of idiots are shorting? That is FSLR and the short squeeze is horrendous for those guys today.
The company will have 1 billion net cash by 2015, the market cap is 3.4 billions and the earnings per share will be at 5 bucks by 2015. This was completely idiotic to short htat company!
It seems to me a dangerous game, as any business dependent on particular compounds, rather than elements, is subject to advances in material science. Tomorrow solar may turn out to be so yesterday.
It is a dangerous game. Fist Solar was a speculation to me, but a reasoned speculation. A company with cash flows earnings and a large cash balance with a lower cost of production and integrated turnkey focus with integration of financing on the project. So the best in class.
Now for Solar to be dead in the water costs have to stop plunging. This is where the counter-intuitive part is. Everyone is shorting companies because the price of what they sell plunge. But at the same time I would short Solar personally only if the cost of what they sell stop plunging. As long as it keeps falling that makes Solar more and more viable in more places, not just in deserts where there is no fresh water to power a coal burning turbine.
But any single company can be felled by a newcomer with a better technology.
Absolutely correct.
So what scares the shit out of me when being long First Solar is not the current silicon technology which sucks but third generation or amorphous silicon. I think that the tetrasolar acquisition actually fixes a good amount of htat threat.
Another problem is GE, I think they are going after C- Indium-Gallium- Selenide for now, but those have deep pockets and good enter the field.
However the more the games last the more the dust settles. I think the first wave of bankruptcy is now, we will have a another wave of growth next and then you take advantage of the change in sentiment ot sell if hte price is right and if the company has not raised its game. I think First solar is going after different technologies and it is the right move. Hedging their bets on technology and focusing on the processes, installation costs, inverter, turnkey capabilities etc.. etc.. They see themselves as a utility plant contractor trying to be not too dependent on a single technology bet.
Congrats on the first article. Maybe a bit early to celebrate, but nevertheless it was a really good call to see the silver cot short as an historic rally in price. I don't know why I am still surprised at institutional short squeezes being inversely proportional to performance after 3yrs of zh, but that was a creditable forecast.
Well done. I mean it.
Silver past demand growth at 50% in Solar, some fucking idiots want to short the most useful commodity in the world? The Metal with the lowest resistivity combined with very little chemical reactivity? Fuck those idiots!!!
I might piss on them, but fuck 'em? Maybe with a barge pole with a spike on the end.
Feel happy for silver bugs, but it doesn't affect me personally :( - I only do gold because in Britain silver has 20% VAT.
bitchcoin is where silver should be.
it will be... the situation is not one of mutual exclusivity...
methinks that's the point
The argument is made that gold and silver are suppressed, because their rise exposes the bogus-ness of fiat.
Well bitcoin does the exact same thing and yet it is allowed to run up faster than a tulip in a Dutchman's portfolio.
Why?
Why?
A huge bursting bubble would make the sheeple turn away from PetRocks......er BitCoin type 'currencies', would it not?
Has it worked for Au and Ag?
Depends on how it bursts and by how much. Some say bitcoin bursts every day, falling 10-20% or so. Then re-inflates.
Paging Dr. Krugman
Paging Dr. Paul Krugman
Please pick up the white courtesy phone.
There is a special message for you.
Actually, when you get him, let's also get Mr. Akak on the line. :)
You rang?
Hey there bud! We're just waiting for Krug!
Death breath wafting in
Krugman, spawn of Keynes, arrives;
Lies and spin commence.
Kruggie is right about Solar and new technologies but that makes him awfully wrong on Silver by the same token.
VEry bad idea from Kruggie to oppose Solar to Silver, they work together.
I just traded in my Fed return last week for 150 Sunshines
Silver surges.....as US Dollar falls hard. As PM's fall, US Dollar climbs - opposite holds true as is the case today. Chart shows inverse relationship.
http://bullandbearmash.com/chart/spot-silver-daily-overlaid-with-us-doll...
For the US Dollar to fall further, the Euro, Yen, GBP and CDN will need to climb substantially - these 4 currencies make up 93% of the weighting against the US Dollar.
Silver climbing? Fair enough. For how long? Not very.
Is that why the central banks are buying silver and gold?
You seem to forget that the old rules no longer apply.
OrangeNadler strikes again!
Oh man am I going to get the down-arrows for this....
What if maybe, just maybe, this whole Bitcoin thing becomes powerful enough to crush the very governments who try and stop it?
What I mean is, what if the money .gov and .eu spend trying to battle this phenomenon, coupled with the money they lose because of it disapperaing into the black market spells their demise? What if it does nothing more than get people to understand what the fuck fiat currency is? Gold and silver appeal to the "get off my lawn!" type here on ZH, but what about the millenials who have their noses in their iPhones all day? Do you think Bitcoin would appeal to them?
What if 5 years ago I told you that there would be a new currency that would threaten fiats all over the world, and that's all you knew. No details regarding its DNA. No discussions of internet, big sis, and the like? On a grand-scheme-of-things scale would you be excited?
The problem with Bitcoin as I see it is the gov has total control of it due to the fact the gov controls the Internet. No Internet, no Bitcoin. Simple as that.
Do they? I'm not challenging you...I just don't know. I keep hearing it's P2P, which makes it incredibly hard for gov to stop it.
Torrent traffic is peer to peer and Comcast blocked the hell out of that. I'm sure they'll do what they're told or lose their license.
Torrent traffic is peer to peer and Comcast blocked the hell out of that. I'm sure they'll do what they're told or lose their license.
This assumes that your ISP can identify your traffic as torrent related. What if they can't? Are they going to block all your traffic?
This is why people use things like VPNs and Tor.
Bitcoin is P2P. So even if the Gov. shuts down the net, computer geeks will be in rage to get the internet back and would be linking all the computers up again, without the government involved.
The extent that computers are linked together determines how useful BTC is a a means of exchange.
For most urbanites the internet is like oxygen, they will die without it.
do chen do you have any sales brokers in USA? Metro Chicago here. I don't know a bearing from a bullfrog but I can sell anything. Let me know.
He wholesales them to 5 & dimes [who then retail them to 'Flounder' & the Delta House for parades]...
Good news, but call back when silver is over $50. Watching silver's second derivative is like watching the grass grow.
Worse than that, its like watching it being cut 24 by 7.
And on Monday US Mint sold 883.000 oz of silver, http://silverdoctors.com/us-mint-sells-nearly-1-million-silver-eagles-mo...
Bitcoin, would have been nice to get in before Cyprus, there is still some more to make I think. But in our time, if you don't hold it, you don't own it.
I'm expecting to hear any day now how three managers at Goldman just got fired for not coming up with the Bitcoin market first?
JPM & the Fed are really pissed off they can't short Bitcoin....
I own as much gold and silver as the next 'bug', but in order for the ideal scenario to bestow itself upon us as the 100 year reign of fiat bullshit money comes crashing down we have to have a crisis whereby afterwards the solution is to print more only the market says (FINALLY) FUCK YOU. Then and only then will the true fundamentals of this ponzi scheme global economy show its true colors where EVERYTHING crashes except precious metals. Until then, the despots will pile into the dollar during any risk-on corrections, thereby sending gold/silver lower.
Silver is the steal of the century now. Stack immediately!!
We are gonna enter Deflation with a massive, all assets are gonna drop like a rock in the sea. And yes Zero Hedge, Gold and Silver will go down with it. The money they print are not going into the consumer economy.
You've convinced me.
I dont have to, Mike Maloney has to.
Nonsequiturd
You are like the other sheeple, who thinks everything is okay with the ecenomy and that its recovering. You think gold can NEVER go down, and that it will solve ALL problems. Please.
I would bet money the mt gox ticker is rigged with fake buys the same way it was crashed to 0 with fake sells.
I have to poop.
Paper sucks, you Wall Street fucks!
I'll see you vampires in the sun,
with my loaded silver gun. Yer goin' down in flames,
from Lower Manhattan to the Thames. Your paper is I know not where,
I'd rather shit my underwear!
For, be there bull,
or be there bear,
silver is the suit I wear! (With gratitude, and apologies to Dr. Seuss.)
The only paper I own is the stuff I wipe my ass with.
Market paper is worthless, because I cannot do a good job of wiping my ass with it.
Gold was worth $28.00 an ounce when I was a kid.
Silver was worth whatever was printed on the coin you spent.
Any one think those days are coming back?
All of the lying bum fucking aristocracy of the Age Of Paper Power can burn in their paper suits soonest
I won't even bother pissing on them to put out the flames.
I collect gold, silver, lead, copper, real dry powder, food, tools, diesel fuel, and other useful commodities.
There is a community of folks all doing the same, so skill sets and extra eyes and hands can guard each others sixes.
That Jim Morrison moment is just around the corner.
"break on through to the other side, break on through to the other side, YEAH ! "
HFT ain't good for me.
Credit defaults far as the eye can see.
CDS's gonna make some messes.Boo hoo hoo as thieves confesses.
TBTF gonna fall off a cliff - REAL NEAT.
Wall Street is a bunch of fucking dead meat.Banks used to be so overleveraged bold.
Now, they're layin' bankrupt, dead and cold.
Gonna be nothing but prepper people,
all the rest gonna be surprised fucked up Sheeple.
God bless this mess. I must confess. I'm a fucking lousy poet,
and didn't even know it.
RISK ON, RISK OFF. DROP YOUR COCKS, AND GRAB YOUR SOCKS, BECAUSE THIS DISNEYLAND RIDE IS JUST BEGINNING !!!!!!!!!
