Ron Paul: "This Is A House Of Cards"

Tyler Durden's picture

Authored by Ron Paul, via The Free Foundation,

Federal Reserve Blows More Bubbles

Last week at its regular policy-setting meeting, the Federal Reserve announced it would double down on the policies that have failed to produce anything but a stagnant economy. It was a disappointing, but not surprising, move.

The Fed affirmed that it is prepared to increase its monthly purchases of Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities if things don’t start looking up. But actually the Fed has already been buying more than the announced $85 billion per month. Between February and March, the Fed’s securities holdings increased $95 billion. From March to April, they increased $100 billion. In all, the Fed has pumped more than a half trillion dollars into the economy since announcing its latest round of “quantitative easing” (QE3) in September 2012.

Although many were up in arms when the Fed said it would buy $600 billion in government debt outright for the previous round, QE2, all seems quiet about the magnitude of QE3 because it doesn’t come with huge up-front total price tag. But by year’s end the Fed’s balance sheet could hit $4 trillion.

With no recovery in sight, where’s all this money going? It is creating bubbles. Bubbles in the housing sector, the stock market, and government debt. The national debt is fast approaching $17 trillion, with the Fed monetizing most of the newly issued debt. The stock market has been hitting record highs for the past two months as investors seek to capitalize on the Fed’s easy money. After all, as long as the Fed keeps the spigot open, nominal profits are there for the taking. But this is a house of cards. Eventually, just like in 2008-2009, the market will discipline the bad actions of the Fed and seek to find the real normal.

In the meantime, real families are suffering. While Wall Street and the government take advantage of access to the Fed’s new “free” money, the Fed claims there is no inflation. But who hasn’t paid higher prices at the grocery store, the gas pump, for tuition, for insurance? It’s bad enough that household incomes have stagnated, but real purchasing power has declined so much that one in seven Americans, 47.3 million people, are on food stamps. Five million are collecting unemployment insurance with 21.5 million afflicted by unemployment according to the government’s own figures. That’s 13.9 percent -- close to double the 7.5 percent unemployment number reported last week.

We are certainly not in a recovery. We don’t see the long unemployment and soup kitchen lines like in the Great Depression, but that’s just because the lines are electronic now.

It is not surprising the Fed has decided to hand the American people more of the same failed policies. But it is disappointing. We know what the real solution is: allow the marketplace to work. Allow entrepreneurs the chance to create instead of stifling innovation with arbitrary regulations. Allow interest rates to rise to equal the risks in the economy. Allow bad debts to be liquidated so we can build on a firm foundation. Stop printing money to benefit the government and big banks. Restore sound money to the economy and the American people. Sound money is the bedrock for prosperity and the best check on big government and crony capitalism.

IMO deck of cards is accurate (toilet paper has utilitarian use that simply doesn't fit); what's printed on the cards though would be nothing less than the mug shots responsible for this mess (no not 'we the people', Diebold voting machines took care of that), the same ones that would have featured in ZH's Fleecebook files were they to produce enough articles for an entire deck.

edit - the down/junk vote was not mine.

There are no cartels apart from government. Cartels form in the areas governments wades into in order to control. Think of the Congress/government as a mafia protection racket and you get close.

Yup, Prohibition is a prime example. From little to no organized crime to massive amounts in about 12 years and alcohol consumption on a proof percentage basis went UP too.

I would say that the original organized crime syndicate, government, inadvertently created a competitor that they then destroyed or rolled into the CIA.              hujel

I disagree, as the cartels that were created by government have taken over government and are running themselves. Killing the government portion will not kill those cartels alone except given a long enough timespan.

I'm wondering why RAND Paul didn't want to comment on Bohemian Grove when asked? (look up the video).

Just wondering...is he scared to comment or something, is it that taboo?
Or else its a big inside trick where US politicians are just playing characters and aren't really that different when it comes to the crunch...

Because for the other 50 weeks a year- far more is being "accomplished" by the same people at the Union Club, Metropolitan Club, and a handful of others depending on where one works and whether one is attempting to influence the banksters, the MIC, or the State.

In a 15-second soundbite world you can't construct an articulate argument that both identifies the actual problem and uses the words "Bohemian Grove".  And once a politician tries, the evidence is forever out there, that they really don't know what the fuck they are talking about, or how the system works, which dissuades "others" from lending their support.  It would be far more productive to construct a slightly longer systemic argument, and avoid the vitriol of a cheap ad hominem attack.

When they say it's a club and someone isn't a member, they are being quite literal.

When I was in school, we called people that walked around with others in a group taking people's property, threatening people, hurting people, usually weaker people, and ganging up on anyone that resisted bully-pussies. They'd bully people but NEVER alone, mano-a-mano.

And these government paid guys are just a bunch of fucking bully-pussies strutting around with there arsenals and tazers and vests and tanks and "help" calling radios while they aggress against everyone and everything in their domain.

And to think that all of these government paid bully-pussies took an OATH to not do such shit. So make it treasonous-bully-pussies.

No everyone goes on line.  They watch the 6 o clock news and that is it.  Probably a local channel which covers local news and a few seconds of major events.

Until the people have a media which gives them the information required to respond accordingly, you can expect little else.  Waking up in small towns is occurring but only due to agenda 21 rezoning.

The best idea I ever heard from Ron Paul was to challenge the government to cut 1% of every single one of its budgets. I wish he'd follow up on that. It would be priceless to see the politicians try to worm out of that one.

He is mostly using that as a rhetorical device. He knows we need to cut much more, but he knows even 1% would never happen. It didn't stop that homo Sean Hannity from taking the idea though.

All attempts to cut government agencies will fail. Boehner, Republicnas and 95% of those who claim to be conservative do not get that. There is only one way to cut government. You have to quit asking it to do stuff. As long as you ask it to do "stuff" it will grow. Once you plant a new agency with a mission it will grow like a weed. It is what government does until it chokes out all life.

Ron Paul is one of the few that gets it when he talks about eliminating whole agencies. It is the only way.

How about ending unnecessary wars that have cost $4 to $6 trillion in the last decade?  How about abolishing the Department of Homeland Security which has cost $780 billion since 2002?  How about avoiding this incipient war in Syria which will cost $1 to $2 trillion?  How about rescinding the order for 30,000 drones to patrol American skies?  That will save a cool trillion over the next decade or so.

These threads are falling apart lately. They just end up with hate filled shit slinging all over. I think the problem is people on here have brains, so they are losing patience and getting really pissed off in general.

Here is another thing I notice a lot lately. The regular asshole head in the sand people are almost becoming brainless zombies. Their cognative dissonance is hitting new lows. I just went out to dinner with my Dad and my daughter. The parking lot was half full, yet we almost witnessed 5 accidents. People just driving around and pulling out of spots with complete disregard to others. I park my car and some dipshit empties their shopping cart and just pushes it and I stop it just before it hits my car. I shove the cart back at the guy and yell "Go put this where it belongs you dumb fuck!!. The guy just stares at me. So I walk over and look at him and say "Are you alive in there or are you just freaking brain dead?". The guy says nothing. He just walks back to his car.

People have just checked out. This population is going to get thinned out, and it's going to be ugly, and I am disgusted that I am almost becoming okay with it.

Well Put. To paraphrase (and shorten) an old tale: Two monks were about to cross a stream when a young maiden arrived. The younger monk offered to carry the girl across the stream to avoid her getting her long dress wet. Some hours later the older monk was fuming over the incident... "You *know* we are not allowed physical contact of any kind with women - it's outragous that you carried her across the water". The younger monk replied "I merely carried her over a stream, but you are still carrying her now"

Several years ago, I visited Mexico on vacation with my parents.  The traffic there is a fucking free for all.  I don't know why I even got on a bus there, but it was sure as hell better than putting a rental car in that demolition derby.  Consider that we've imported millions upon millions of these 3rd worlders with no expectation of conforming to American values or customs.  Does the change in traffic patterns surprise you now?

Both examples (foreign chaos on the streets to U.S. arrogant drivers) point to the best examples that when TSHTF, it won't end in Kumbaya camp fires and mutual communal assistance.  It will be The Road Warrior (or even worse, The Road).

I suppose from the perspective of the driving habits of central American drivers (one of my friends went to Costa Rica and said the same thing about driving there), but both Australia and Canada have large numbers of Asian drivers, and they aren't exactly known for their safe driving. Perhaps it is just the Latino influence.

I've noticed the same these last couple years. Especially over  in Cally. Folks are getting squirrelly, and it's only going to get worse.

I think they are figuring out their politicians have let them down.

I was going to replace a vehicle earlier, but opted instead to keep the 6k lb truck. I've done everything else to keep my family safe in bad times, might as well wrap them in the safety of steel as well.

This is the result of natural selecton being short circuited by the government. People KNOW that nothing will happen to them regardless of how fucking stupid they act. The law protects the stupid and burdens the productive.

There is an amazing hubris out there. They know there are lawyers, government agencies, EBT cards, appeals courts, union reps and and a thousand other parasitic constructs designed to insulate them from reality.

They fart in our face and laugh about it - they know that their date with the TV, a bowl of tater chips and the next episode of Dancing With the Stars is protected by an army of SWAT cops - as long as they sign over their liberty and freedom. They have no problem with that as tater chips mean a hell of a lot more to them than personal liberty and responsibility ever did.

Only four in fifteen minutes?  Guess you've never driven in India, where only one in a hundred vehicles still has side view mirrors attached, where lines on the road are polite suggestions rather than requirements, and where cows always have the right of way, which means an overloaded tuk-tuk of schoolgirls is the either/or first choice for a truck driver to strike instead of the mangy 'sacred' beast.

I'm not sure people ever checked in, but I do think we all just notice it more now, especially if we immerse ourselves in Doomporn on a daily basis.  That (Doomporn) is an addiction (count your own posted comments) that has increased in popularity (and made some who would exploit it a decent living).

After a lot of careful thought, and copious use of Okham's Razor, I have come to the conclusion that what will happen is inevitable, was unavoidable, and is merely a cycle from which there never was a solution and from which we can never escape.  All of the championing of No Fed, more PMs, more "freedom and liberty", etc., are just manifestations of instinctual human hope, when the harsh reality is there never was hope.  We all just happen to be above ground as a cycle is coming to an end.

In the end it is kind of like knowing you are going to die, but you'll still take the kids (who will also one day die) out for ice cream and maybe a ballgame.  You make the best of it, and if you have any character, you'll try to make something better along the way.  Too many on this site just want to wallow in bitterness and anger at something or somebody.  They'll grasp on to things that are often untrue, and even when they are true, the "awake" one is impotent to do anything about it.  That bitterness serves no purpose and just makes the bile flow more freely, as a kind of long term suicide.  Any wonder family and friends avoid many of the regulars here?

Pick a battle and actually fight it rather than rant about it.  Address a problem that has a solution and go out and try to solve it.  That's all anybody can do.  Oh, and BE NICE.

of course, this has happened before in other lands and has been happening elsewhere for quite a long time.    perhaps, the American psyche is coming to grips with the fact that an individual human life is at once completely worthless & absolutely precious all at once.    on which side of the coin one chooses to see it is up to that individual's perception.   same as it ever was...

Too bad you appear to be correct, fonzannoon.

I am very well aware of the statistics about public participation in politics in Canada.  Roughly speaking, 50 years ago, 8% of people belonged to political parties. 25 years ago, that was down to 4%.  15 years ago, that was down to 2%. Today, less than 1% of Canadians participate in any kind of political activities at all, and certainly less than 1% participate as members of political parties.

Those political parties get all of their money from less than 1% of the public, while more than 99% pay for no political activities. The political party that forms the government in Canada has more more money than all the other parties combined.

Meanwhile, the percentage of people voting has been going down, especially among young people, which tends to indicate that those trends which I mentioned above are going to get worse in the foreseeable future.

We are living in a fake democracy, which is actually a runaway fascist plutocracy. There is absolutely no doubt, as a SOCIAL FACT "that people are almost becoming brainless zombies." THE REAL SOCIAL FACTS ARE THAT THE OVERWHELMING VAST MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN NORTH AMERICA ACT LIKE ADAMANT POLITICAL IDIOTS, OR ZOMBIE SHEEPLE, AND THAT IS GETTING WORSE, NOT BETTER.

However, when the population gets thinned out, it will the most vulnerable that suffer the most. It will be poor young children that are going to most become the victims of this runaway system of the triumphs of legalized lies, backed by legalized violence, having made "democracy" beccome nothing more than a cruel joke.

Although I do not have much sympathy for the adults who do not want to learn anything, and do not want to participate, I feel sorry for innocent young children, that will suffer the most when things get worse, as they surely look like they are going to!

As far as Ron Paul goes, I agree with his analysis, however, for a long time I have been listening to people say we have to change soon, or else it would be too late ... and now I think it is clear that it is too late. It is too late to go back to "sound money," after 100 years of fraudulent money, everything worth robbing has already been robbed. There is no way to fix the runaway problem that a few hundred Americans own more than half of the rest of the population ...

The established systems are now so extremely unbalanced that there is nothing within them which could bring those back into better balance. Instead, it looks like we are committed to a series of psychotic breakdowns, as the established, but extremely unbalanced, systems attempt to consolidate their control, by becoming even more unbalanced!

There is nothing in the old-fashioned ideals of Ron Paul that has any real relevance, after one faces the facts about how extremely bad the actual situation has become ...

Many people ARE brainless zombies but for more reasons than you may realize. Unfortunately the thinning will happen one way or another because we let tyranny get this far. But none of us that are awake and not on team psychopath should be willing to truly accept this or ever be okay with it. We may have to deal with it the best way we can until we can stop it permanently.

Try harder to cut the maximum slack possible for those that are unwilling or unable to wake up. Did it ever cross your mind that many won't be able to handle waking up? They'd totally lose it if they ever did. So their minds, if they aren't screwed up from prescription meds or the other poisons all around them, or just every day problems, are just subconsciously checking out to protect themselves. When the SHTF everyone not awake will get a reality check fast.

Really, even if someone had no problems, who the fuck wants to willingly snap out of their picturesque illusory fiat world of Oz? Let alone to wake up to the full reality that the whole world is one giant slave farm, where psychopaths are in charge and gladly poisoning the air, water and food we eat and decimating the planet where we all live?

When you get to stage 5 of awakening you'll be able to smile and let it all go. You'll realize negative energy just puts a drain on you and those around you. Stay positive. We'll need to be there to help those good people that wake up the hard way and can help us out against the psychopaths.

No. He is not right.

I read all of Dr. Paul's books, and there was a passage in one of them (and regretfully, it was long enough ago that I can't fully cite the reference) that related a conversation between Daniel Boone and an unnamed constituant regarding a vote in congress that delegated funds to disaster relief in the District of Columbia.

The gist of it was that while the constituant felt bad for the victims of the disaster, he would never again vote for Mr. Boone.  He knew that helping one victim would mean helping every victim, and it would result in the bankruptcy of the country.

If Dr. Paul was for entitlements, (and I believe that I could find at least ten examples where he listed in his books that he is not) he would never had included that fictious conversation with Daniel Boone.

And don't write off Rand Paul just because someone told you to.  Yeah, he's a politician, but he's got some of his old man's horse sense in him.  I've written him more than once just to say thank you for a filibuster or a public stand he's taken, and he's not even my state's rep.

All your points are reasonable and rational. However, you're rationalizing points against what psychopaths think. They've planned and executed this for quite some time. You're damn right its our fault. Both for letting it happen at all and definitely for getting this far and we'd better stop them. I hope nobody on here doesn't realize that Ron Paul was controlled opposition. He may make valid points and seem like a rallying point but he's not. The psychopaths laid him out like bait and many of us took it.

The psychopaths plans are advancing at light speed thanks to QE. They are flush with fiat cash. They don't care what they do with it now because it won't matter tomorrow. So buy massive amounts of guns, ammo, armored vehicles, drones and everything else they can get their hands on before the crash so they can control most and kill the opposition to tyranny.

The only way this will stop is when enough of us stand up to the bully and take the bully down permanently

They aren't just planning on killing most of us. They will kill themselves as well through their arrogance and ignorance. Because they have deluded themselves into believing they can contol the outcomes of everything.

Their usual BS is about doing it for our safety. Well we actually have to succeed at stopping them for everyone's safety.

Ron Paul is not controlled opposition. He pushed the limits on what was tolerated. It was not his role to do any more  -had he tried, he would have been completely marginalized, if not destroyed. He woke up a lot of people. His supporters included the perceived radical fringe (formerly viewed as moderates) His movement could not have taken up all issues that are truth  -those who try are now marginalixed into thousands of internet webstes with very little or no exposure- Don't blame Ron Paul  -  He opened the door for all of us to take the truth and run with it- "Controlled opposition" is the Rebublican Congress, and Neocon talk radioo  -people like Rush,  Hannity, Beck  and Michael Savage- The Orwellian Matrix created may be impregnable - The American Sheeple may be incapable of waking up to reality -100 years of massive immigration from third world countries, the systematic destruction of our Christian culture, the traditional family unit, and our tradition of Liberty may have succeeded  -we are serfs in waiting -the New World of America may be in the final stages of being assimilated back to the Old World of feudalism. We are now the engine that drives globalism. We are the enforcers of the elites. When the task is complete, we are on the ever decreasing list of nations to be globalized. We are running out of time to reverse this trend. If we do not -a new Dark Age will soon descend upon America and the World.

A great point, Rusty. I have often wondered if the decay that is coming (actually already started) is not going to be fast, but slow - wearing us down over years. Kind of like Rome. Funny thing is, we don't have a real plan for slow decay. Things just get gradually worse and worse and the government, through incremental totalitarianism, gets more control. People meanwhile start to just tune out, like the commenters above were mentioning.

All part of the plan. They are forcing the system into failure deliberately, in order to create the chaos required to implement "sustainability".

It occurs to me, that mankind had a perfectly sustainable system, until TPTB starting meddling with it. The Frankenstein medical industry, Biotech.......all they do, is f*ck with the natural order of things.

These industry groups (and many others) were the brainchildren of TPTB, which should be a CLEAR sign that:

"The world is perfectly sustainable, without TPTB".

WHY? Because MOST people, the world over, all want the same things out of life: Love, Family, Happiness, Peace, and Harmony.

TPTB promote Hatred, Misery, War, and Dischord. They are the antithesis to all that is Good in the world.

In the end, TPTB will fail. They are so arrogant and full of themselves, that they just can't to see how careless they're getting. They are also too stupid to know when to stop, and that has been their fatal flaw all along.

Fed up? Rather than be angry about it, laugh about it. Laugh at them. They spent generations planning, and strategizing, and colluding, and conspiring to keep Good People down........and in the end, they're even bigger fuck-ups than the 15 year-old burger flippers at Mikey-D's. TPTB have even less of an excuse, since they had all of the advantages that most don't.

God is on our side. So, in addition to stacking, buying ammo, guns, food, whatever........get yourselves prepped to say "EPIC FAIL" to TPTB.

You obviously don't have a Ph.D or Nobel Prize in economics.

Gosh, sound like (two fingers tapping on arm)

It only makes sense if this is the LAST business cycle, and they know it.

A whole lot of PTB have been buying hideaways in the last 2/3 years.

I'm sure they know the timetable.

Kiwi,

Harvard endowment has also a lot of forest acreage in upper Maine. A mean a lot. Nothing new here.  They may be some tax advantages or just good investment.

It makes total sense. Sorry for the repost but CougarW said it better than anyone I have ever heard anywhere. I post it from time to time so maybe some people who have never seen it may get a glimpse. It clears up a lot.

"These fuckers are going to print hard enough to wake the dead. They'll print like mo'fos, print like mad men, print like fly pimps. Print until their eyes bleed. They will print via the swaps, via bank bailouts and mergers, via fixed Treasury yields, via real honest-to-God negative interest rates, via loans to banks on no collateral, via payroll tax reductions, and in the end via actual fiat paper instruments which they might very well drop in bails from actual mutherfucking helicopters. They will not give two figs what anyone thinks. Here is why. Because this is the Goddamned end of it my friend. There is no accounting beyond this point. There will be no history of it. No one to take notes of rates of exchange, or of the graft and violence, nobody to worry about the deficit or the GDP or the national debt of any nation large or small under the blazing Goddamned sun. End. Of. It. Does anyone bitch about how Rome totally debased their coinage at the end? Hell no. But whoever did it had enough to hand and grabbed some land with a nice vineyard and sat back and waited for the Middle Ages to start 700 years further on. And that's what a singularity is about. Anything that passes through is striped of all meaning. Nothing we think is important now will remain so beyond the event horizon. Nobody will remember, nobody will write about it, nobody will be held to any standard. Ever for evar. So yeah, they'll print like the mad crazed terrorists they are. Because they have nothing to lose, and maybe something to gain. Maybe a dollar. Maybe a day. Maybe a slim chance to escape with some of the loot. Whatever the fuck advantage they see in it, for themselves and their elite crap wanking buddies, they will full-on-full-time-fucking do it to advantage. Watch for it, Dawg. It's totally on this time, on like Donkey Kong. And when the dust is settled in a generation hence it's going to have become another unbelievable episode among the ages of men."

nothing will ever improve or recover;
that is the structure of the federal reserve's
money, not talking, but swearing.
.
usury does not work over time, that is it.
period. and I hate to repeat myself and those
who have repeated themselves, but the critical
point is oh so readily and rudely bypassed and
the ignorance is critical, there is a distinction
that makes all the difference.
.
END THE FED

Exactly why we can't have 'sound money'.
