On Jon Stewart's Ongoing Vendetta Against CNN

Tyler Durden's picture

That CNN's news coverage has been nothing but comedy-(and cringe-)worthy for the past several years, should not be news to anyone by now: perhaps there is no better testament to a society in which a network that breaks news based on fake twitter rumors is still held in high regard. However, in the spirit of reverse psychology memes, does the fact that Jon Stewart is now constantly poking fun at CNN's "news-slaughter", mean that it may be, paradoxically, time to start taking CNN - "the most busted name in news" seriously again? (... that's obviously rhetorical).

When CNN reports via satellite uplink from the same parking lot, funny things happen:

Should maybe the IRS do an accounting of the deductable expenses for this type of operation? (two crews, two lighting sets, two hairdressers, two wardrobe malfunction checkers, two sattelite uplinks ... because 6 parking spots is a long way to walk)

Or should they just stick to sticking guns into peoples faces over $43 in underreported 1099-MISC income from a savings account of some poor person?

EDIT: I forgot: two teleprompters. Thats the key to this mystery, and this administration. I should write some teleprompter code that detects natural language math problems and puts the answer on screen for top IRS officials who can not do math.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are no better than the other treasonous hacks that try to pass for impartial press - their only difference is that when they make their "statements" they make a funny face and call it comedy. MSNBC, ABC, CBS and CNN call it news.

Stewart and Colbert only feign being impartial and poke fun at their side when the lie is too big to cover with name calling or by deflecting the blame to others. The only thing that is funny about either one of them is the fact that their followers are so oblivious - and they think the rest of us are too - and that's funny.

I started working for CNN in 1983 in Atlanta.  It consisted of just out of college kids ripping UPI, AP, or Reuters stories out of teletype machines and re-writing them, inserting whatever you could find video footage then giving the package to some dimwit anchor to read while the video footage played.  BUT, we did have some outrageous XMAS parties.......

To this day, I don't know what to make of those videos that seem to be showing CNN "faking" live coverage from Iraq (or wherever) during the first Gulf War...

Does anyone really know what the deal is there?  I honestly can't tell if they really did that...

Anyway, perhaps the worst thing I've seen from a major news outlet in more recent years was CNN's coverage of the man who carried an AR-15 to a public speaking appearance for Obama in the Phoenix area - it was either before the '08 election or early in his first term (the man was simply carrying it in a sling over his shoulder - the cops you talked to him all agreed he was quite polite and not a threat at all).

Anyway, I distinctly remember the CNN clowns discussing the possibility that this man was a racist, etc. etc...while showing SELECTED images of the man (i.e., NOT his face...just a close up of the rifle slung over his back, etc).

Well, it turned out that this "racist" was actually an African American (yes, he was black)...

...and CNN went WAY out of its way to leave that little bit of information out of the story.

Honestly, it kinda creeped me out - like how often are stories completely twisted like this????

I remember seeing a photo of the guy carrying the AR slung over his shoulder on his back, and it was in Arizona, and yes... he was an "African American" whatever that means these days (if I was white and born there can I still use that phrase???). I think he was attending some political rally that Obama was speaking at back in 08.

I cut cable TV (TV period!) over a dozen years ago. I do appreciate a good comedy clip on the net once in a while. CNN has truly become a joke and they've been trying to perfect their incompetence for many years now. Looks like they're succeeding.

Best Definition

There's an annual contest at the Griffiths University, Australia, calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.

This year's term was “political correctness”.

The winning student wrote:

“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rapidly promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end.”

GREP a comment of mine about heuristics and the media, it's fairly old.

It doesn't matter if you're not the audience it's intended for; same as CNN, Fox News, and all of them (in fact, there's an important part to the entire sphere that relies on the oppositional trolling to your belief system, it fires you up and reinforces your own beliefs[1]). Bernays' theories are the basis of modern media, and the way to make the most money was simple: provide your audience with what it wanted and they will shower you with cash, Black Friday style. Then consider the meta-point of Bernay's theory: the people who own the Corporations spend the most money, and so pandering to their desires is the logical outcome.

Now, if you want to have a slightly more mature discussion over the chicken and the egg, and if consumer culture shapes people's beliefs (it clearly does btw, if you want to get knowledgable I'd suggest looking up why BRANDING and Coke / Pepsi companies are spending wads of cash on MRI imaging of the brain's reaction to brands and how it uses the same "God belief" parts of the brain) we can.

But this is at the level of monkeys throwing poo. "Jon Stewart critiques CNN". No. Shit. Sherlock. That's what he's paid to do. Ann Coulter gets paid to act as a rabid "right wing" troll. Alex Jones gets paid to spin paranoia. They get paid by the consumers of their product, the advertisers and ultimately the market. It's an emergent part of Capitalism, or "The Matrix". The smart ones realize that truth doesn't matter to the process; the dumb ones have mental break downs when they see it after years of cynicism accretes like plaque. It's all the same system: you're choosing your political team / flavor from a managed line of products, all owned by the same people. Exactly the same as "choice" within Coke's line of products. They don't give a shit, at the end of the day, your cash is going to them.[2]

Watch this. It's not as if you can't make money out of telling people the truth of the system (that's the meta part of the humor in the series, and why ZH exists). And no, that's not a conspiracy video, it's MSM prime time.

As for the now current "ZE JEWZ" muppetry, I suggest looking at this: Pre-WWII power graph of civilization. If the Vatican thinks in centuries, you should consider the prospect that others think in millenia or longer. You really should, the average species only gets 1-2,000,000 years before dying out, and the prospects don't look good for humans making the 100k mark. Or even the 50k mark.

[1] Go look at the reverse pyramid thread, discussions over Pyramids. The point of it is that confrontational dualism is a mechanism to reinforce belief, not change them. RED - BLUE... COKE - PEPSI ... GOOD - EVIL and so on and so forth.

[2] This isn't to say there's not actual differences between the political positions or ingredients of Coke products. Of course there is: but it doesn't matter to Coke HQ if a product becomes unprofitable - they just cull the line, and make a new one. You'll want to look up Limonana and how it was tested in Israel; in politics, I view Social Democracies of the Swedish type as the most attractive, but there we go - it doesn't mean I don't realize that a potential switch to a more repressive system is part of the way the system is set up. And it's not exactly hidden - you can find White Papers on EU anti-protest stuff easily, and how the Gold - Silver - Bronze command chain works in police actions. Ironic, no? Using that meme for "barbarian relics".

Sun, 05/12/2013 - 16:10 | 3554075 kchrisc
kchrisc's picture

Good post and good info as well. That Limonana thing is nearly unbelievable but then so was "hope and change."

I do disagree with you on one point and that is the idea that it is all the same. You are right about all of the talking-head stuff, it is prepackaged, branded and sold for a dollar. There are other, and, in my opinion, better ways to inform ones beliefs, most important of which is reading and pursuing the truth without some branded asshole doing the interesting for you.

To read and think, and really ponder the works and ideas of Hayek, Rothbard, Mises, Bastiat, etc. is to really know and own the ideas of freedom, what is looks like, and what it truly means. To read and KNOW the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and the works related to their creation is to really understand the Constitutional republic and what it means.

No matter, I've seen everything anyway. What do you think CopyRight is actually about, apart from making sure that profit and accessibility of thought isn't under the thumb? Why burn books when you can simply charge for them, and push nonsense such as 50 Shades of Twilight Fiction instead?

Disney making ancient tales their own, and all. Can't have knowledge and information being free, that'd stop anyone creating their own world. Assange is an ass, but he had some good points.

p.s. Black Mirror 15 million merits is suffering difficulties loading. Now, Google, just because it contains a satire of your own color coding system (the yellow workers you use to scan books who are mostly Mexicans, in the satire they're the fatties, I'd say that was fairly funny), that's hardly nice. It's not as if it's a secret that you use the same coding system as the EU, now is it? Why complain when the black is used?

The thing to remember about traps and avoiding them is this. Knowing of their existence.

For every action, there is a equal and opposite reaction.

The presence of something is just as important as the absence of something.

With just these two thoughts, different courses of action can be developed and ultimately deployed AGAINST the traps that are laid out to entrap the physical, mental, financial and spiritually unwary.

No, the prospects don't look good. As I said in another post, it's a matter of evolution or extinction.

We can only hope. As it always gets worse before it gets better, perhaps at some point there will be evolution, if we don't poisen the whole planet with radioactive isotopes, in process right now from the waters of Fukushima to the Pacific Ocean and by the NATO ammunition and other special goods on the Market. :(

We are so afraid of being alone that we will do anything to be a part of something.  Anything.  This is so true because if you truly want to get out from under their control you will have to do it by yourself, within yourself.  You have to abandon your (so called) friends and your family,  because they will all think you are insane.  Everytime you meet them they will treat you as you used to be, they just can't understand how you could possibly give up everything they hope to accomplish.  They think I'm nuts. They think I'm a recluse. They have no concept.  I know this to be true, I did it. I gave up a fortune for my freedom, and have not looked back.  I've been alone for 10 years now, actually I've been alone all my life, it's just been the last 10 years that I realized this truth.

The only thing going for CNN, is that they are better than FOX & MSNBC, which is not saying much.  Watch an hour of CNN and you are treated to more opinion than fact, that is when they don't pre-emt an entire two weeks to cover a rape, bombing or kidnapping, or Michelle Obama's birthday.  And as Jon Stewart points out , in the rush to get out in front of the news, they wound up mis-reporting facts an faking the locations of news anchors who were ten feet apart.

Jon Stewart is one of those goofy awkward guys who makes a living poking fun at others.   And this is how he builds ratings.

Liberals love this type of behavior.

Jon Stewart is a comedian - and not a very good one - he "head fakes" the liberal lemmings into believing he acttually has something to do with journalism.

CNN is so broken and their ratings are so bad, that a 8 year old with a speech impediment could give Stewart a run for his money.

No one has to worship Jon Stewart to agree with his contention that CNN lies about virtually everything. Does anyone really believe that the giant media conglomerates who own the news stations are there to tell us the truth.

Also, I find it offensive when anyone likens the concept of conspiracy theories to playing with model trains. Conspiracy is a legal term that's used in courtrooms across America every day. There are charges such as conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to rob a bank, etc.

The term, conspiracy, simply means that two or more people conspired (worked together) to do something. So, this idea that conspiracies don't exist in America is ridiculous.
