President Obama Demands Justice For "Intolerable And Inexcusable" IRS Behavior

Tyler Durden's picture

We can picture the scene of abject horror at the revelations the President read about the actions undertaken by what must surely have been a rogue element in the IRS. However, as the AP (ironically) reports, Obama believes some IRS employees failed to apply the law fairly and impartially. The blame, it would seem, is being laid at "lax managers'" feet for allowing this practice to continue for 18 months. Jack Lew has been asked to hold those renegades responsible and to ensure it never happens again - or else. Where's Fabrice Tourre when you need him?

White House Statement:

The White House

Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release
May 14, 2013
Statement by the President

I have now had the opportunity to review the Treasury Department watchdog’s report on its investigation of IRS personnel who improperly targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.  And the report’s findings are intolerable and inexcusable.  The federal government must conduct itself in a way that’s worthy of the public’s trust, and that’s especially true for the IRS.  The IRS must apply the law in a fair and impartial way, and its employees must act with utmost integrity.  This report shows that some of its employees failed that test.

I’ve directed Secretary Lew to hold those responsible for these failures accountable, and to make sure that each of the Inspector General’s recommendations are implemented quickly, so that such conduct never happens again.  But regardless of how this conduct was allowed to take place, the bottom line is, it was wrong.  Public service is a solemn privilege.  I expect everyone who serves in the federal government to hold themselves to the highest ethical and moral standards.  So do the American people.  And as President, I intend to make sure our public servants live up to those standards every day.

Via AP,

President Barack Obama says a government watchdog's report shows intolerable and inexcusable behavior by the Internal Revenue Service in targeting tea party groups.

Obama says in a statement that some IRS employees failed to apply the law fairly and impartially.

Obama says he's asked Treasury Secretary Jack Lew to hold accountable those responsible and to ensure it never happens again. He says regardless of how it happened, it was wrong.

The report from the Treasury inspector general for tax administration blames ineffective IRS management for allowing agents to improperly target tea party groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax exempt status. It says lax managers allowed the practice to continue for 18 months.

The IRS apologized for the practice Friday. The Justice Department is also investigating.

Interesting to note this is the judgment assigned to the father of the king that had the writing on the wall given to him in the very next chapter.  By valuing the “gods of silver and gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone”, his national currency’s reserve status was “weighed in the balance and found wanting” resulting in it being depreciated and replaced by other nations competing currencies by half.  (Not to mention his own personal demise.) Mene, mene, tekel, parsin.

Until we know the EXACT names of these PUBLIC SERVANTS and they are terminated from federal service this will be unresolved.

This is just another event to be placed on the list of grievances on the next Declaration of Independence.

Do anybody seriously think the government is going to fairly audit the government on government work being done to keep the government in supreme power?

This whole IRS "special unit" thing is a DHS domestic intelligence operation.

This is Obama's Secret Police.

It will be even worse under the next administration - regardless of political party.

Anyone that carries a Federal badge and ID is a complete disgrace.

They are only in it for themselves, and by that they must continue to go after everyone that is not a federal employee to stay in power.

How about auditing every fed for tax compliance first before you go after the little guys?

Actually you insinuate that only non-whites do wrong and that's idiotic.

Essentially, what you're saying is all of our problems are because of a particular race or religion. Hitler, is that you?

This post is a good example of ultra nationalism. These are the same arguments that Mussolini and Hitler made. These are the roots of Fascism. This is how it go's off the rails. thank heavens for this  ... and thank you Mr President and Secretaries Lew & Holder.  I can sleep peacefully tonight and for awhile.  I'll admit to a little concern that former US Senator & New Jersey Governor of a certain never-to-be-named political party seemed to be roaming free, and at will it seems, after destroying account holders as if they were 'investors' versus depositors.

Never mind, the world is back in unity and soon the Associated Press, Washington Post, and NYTimes will come back to respecting your team for making the world safe for all of us.  I mean weren't you somewhere in Indonesia when accusations like this against a sitting President were raised against that unholy Nixon and his stormtroopers?  And thank heavens Nixon never had drones at his disposal so you can keep us extra safe.  I mean you courageously ordered the execution of somebody in essentially house-arrest right next to a major Pakistani air base that no one ever knew was there until you 'discovered' where he was 'hiding' after all those years when he needed monthly dialysis treatments (major medical equipment access) for his weak kidneys.  You are the best sir ... even tho' I like VP Biden alot ... no one is as astute, eloquent and reflective as you and your brilliant team are, have been and always will be!  God bless  ....(er, I forgot, that is frowned upon anymore ... excuse me)  ... In my opinion, taxes, Benghazi, Boston false flags (latest in a noble line of political acts), Syrian freedom fighters/terrorist heart eaters, fake presidents, etc., are all just warmups for the main event.

Or, to put it in simpler, easy-to-understand words for those living in the land of the free sheeple, watch out for those (nuclear) raindrops which may soon be falling on your heads.

I'm pleased with the President's statement, so long as it is put into action. However, it is a matter of concern that the IRS seeks to please incumbents. A clear message must be sent that the IRS acts without fear or favor.

The question concerning the legitimacy of federal tax is a separate issue. The system is already undermined by the blatant tax evasion committed by corporates and others who employ fancy expensive tax dodging ways. Persecuting ordinary dissenters of the political sort is foolish.

Okinawa doesn't belong to Japan, says hawkish PLA general

A hawkish Chinese general has possibly opened a Pandora's box on territorial disputes in East Asia by saying that the Ryukyu Islands including Okinawa do not belong to Japan.

Luo Yuan, a People's Liberation Army two-star general, has said that Japan could not rightfully claim sovereignty over the islands, because they had started paying tribute to China half a millenium before they had done so to Japan.

The islands had started paying tribute to China in 1372, the general said in an interview with China News Service on Tuesday. Only in 1872, 500 years later, did Japan exploit China's weakness to force the Ryukuyu Islands into submission, he said.

So now you're gonna use 500 years old history to annex territory? LOL??

No, this is Chinese snark.

There were recently some very shitty comments about how "comfort women" were an expected (and by inference, acceptable) part of the war. The guy saying it is part of the Nationalist faction that is also on record for having a shitty attitude to rape cases in Okinawa involving US marines (black just to add another Japanese racist layer) because they're not ethnically "pure" Japanese.

TOKYO — The mayor of one of Japan’s largest cities, who is seen by some as a possible future prime minister, drew an outcry on Monday after he said women forced into wartime brothels for the Japanese Army during World War II had served a necessary role in providing relief for war-crazed soldiers. Toru Hashimoto, the populist mayor of Osaka, also said American soldiers stationed in Okinawa should make more use of the island’s adult entertainment industry, which he said would reduce the incidence of sexual crimes against local women.[NYT]

There's also been an ongoing "culture tiff" in China over populist War dramas that have entered a viewing battle, with the blood / gore and 1980's Arnie levels of violence [ChinaSmack - used to be quite good, has declined in usefulness, but it's in English]. People do notice the obvious hyperbole, and the older generations don't see it as very dignified so there's a bit of inter-generational frisson to the story (anyone seeing the simularities between the USA and crappy Rambo III-esque films? Good, good, you'll be happy to note that China does the serious Band of Brothers style stuff as well, so it's a very relatable story, and there's a touch of snark visa vie anti-Western media "crudity", thus the framing to traditional long-term history). A two star general is framing the snark for their sensibilities, not the younger generation, but it won't be seen as a serious territorial claim by either (of the bright ones).

It's also very typically Chinese, with the "look how much older our culture is than yours Japan", something that is a stereotype for very good reasons. One comment, four levels of snark. General was having a bad day, or I've missed a couple. I'd have to bother researching where he's placed in the hierarchy of the army / party and check if there's been any frisson that the higher ups should have taken a stronger stand against Japanese shittiness, there's probably some internal politicking going on over the level of response. Two star is serious enough to say "we're not impressed", but not high enough to say "we're really not impressed".

So, five layers, maybe six, and I've not got the expertise to see any others. Rule #1: nothing is what it says on the tin, I thought that was clear by now.

add another layer to that: the Chinese faction that wants the islands and poses the populist theme and the other one that is ganging up on them with corruption charges. they even had a moment where one warship fired on another warship carrying one faction leader

methinks the Japanese are mostly scenery in this Chinese power struggle - which interestingly has some families as protagonists that were fighting each other even in Imperial times

Interesting, I hadn't heard anything about warships before, so thankyou. I think the family issue was covered in the recent "Mao's grand-daughter is a billionaire" thread, I don't find it surprising. Someone is currently trending the fact that Jackie Chan disowned his son of his fortune (appears April 2011, Summer / late 2012 and again now; his son was a well known playboy / fuerdai), which is a common "second gen playboy gets commupance" story. Whether or not to see it as an internal warning meme is debatable, but Jackie is well known to feature as "the role model" of his generation.

Full disclosure: I simply don't have the language access or information access to know much about the internals of China, as I said: this was just a non-expert reading of the statement with reference to easily seen trends. Aka, I could be simply projecting my view onto a tabula rosa. (But I think it's highly unlikely to be as simple as reported).

'China' did not exist in 1372 any more than France, Germany or the damned Czech Republic existed. Paying tribute to the lords of an an imperial dynasty ruling over a geographic region peopled by loosely related cultures, and paying tribute to an invention of statists called 'China' are two different things. The only legal question here is what the legal fiction of the 'People's Republic'' did or did not 'own' when it was concocted.

But nationalists can never see the the past as it actually was.

Problem is japan and china are using nationalism as both a response to external pressures and domestic/social pressures, who will blink first?

Okinawa has been a warground for the Chinese and Japanese for centuries. One of the reasons Te (Karate) developed there.

IIRC, historically the Okinawans preferred China to Japan. Today, who knows.

Being held accountable in the IRS means:

1) Next year's raise is an inflation adjustment only!

2) The employee has to stay till at least 4:30pm every workday for a year.

Clown shows are not for the coulrophobic.

Please, this only happened after (the rather liberal) Jon Stewart actually shit all over Obama for this, otherwise if it had been swept under the rug we'd have never heard about it again.

Even if you don't like the Daily Show, this one clip is worth it: http://theweek.com/article/index/244116/watch-jon-stewart-slams-obama-over-the-irs-scandal

Someone needs to ask Mr Peace or Carney or even McCain how that investigation into the White House security leaks is going.  I believe that was the first unresolved issue.  After that we can go down the line of other unresolved incidents: Fast and furious, secret service hookers, Benghazi, IRS etc.  Once these bastions of transparency of truth bring "justice" in those cases maybe they can start what they promised in 2008 and go "line by line" through every governmental department and eliminate waste, fraud, abuse etc.

The biggest joke is that some people believe they really want the truth to come out when what they really want if for these issues to go away.

Folks, folks, nothing to see here.   3 quick points...

1) AP story is NOT a scandal.  They weren't wiretapping and just requested records of calls.

2) IRS is not a story.  The official, final story will be that it was lower level employees, acting roguely in a mildly partisan environment where IRS low level employees were working within the organization to try to catch 'big fish' that might get them a promotion.

3) Both these stories are OLD, very OLD...the IRS story going back to at least 2010, AP story is what, 6 months old?  Both of these stories were meant to take attention from Benghazi, not so much for Obama's sake (he's lame duck) but for Hillary's, she is going to be the next President afterall. Success...who's talking about it in the media.   This is all coordinated and intended to take care of the MSM watching crowd that may have been jolted into possibly waking up.

You'll see...nothing, nothing will happen.

The sorrowing of the damned.

One week before elections, Michelle Antoinette Obama declared that once elections would over, they would seek retribution, which she called "payback", so they clearly have the "revenge" or "enemies list" mentality. And Obama himself, in a speech before La Raza, declared that those who opposed his policies of tyranny were his "enemies". In Alinsky fashion, he proclaimed that if the "enemies" brought a knife, he and his cronies would "bring a gun". They clearly agreed with the attitudes behind this IRS policy, so the IRS was just following the "nod, nod, wink, wink" given them by the Chief Executive, the Tyrant in Chief!

But now,he got caught with his hand in the Cookie Jar of Tyrants, so he has to express faux outrage for purely public relations purposes. And still, his legions of leeching lemmings won't care! Even as tyranny descends upon America, they are so pacified in their false belief in government as god, that they will disregard the tyranny that stares them in the face!

The issue is every four years corporations pay up billions to prop up a DNC/RNC so armys of solders, accountants, lawyers, drug pushers, food poisoniers. competion eliminators can write there own laws.   Abuse of power by authoritians.   I would suguest that this has been going on for recorded history. Taxes, deffred income, tax havens, entangling aliances, economic hit men, are the products of war, Czars, and authoritan  power...   Sad when Russia talks about Stalin  and the sins of empire.

Taxes are what brought Capone down the question is ar the instutions of empire in economic, millitary, education, going to take an oath to limit power for humanity?  Trilions in offshore accounts, GMO's. propaganda media, empire justifiers, book burners, medical terrorist, all seemed to cross the line of decency.   Taxes, the hoard of cash in havenes, the complex system that allows this and the total dissreguard for do un to others, has pushed the profiteer pirates.

Serious STUFF Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3

"No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay."

Article I, Section 9, Clause 8:

No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

Now we have Czars, C class of tax avoiders, central banking crony capital....  Oh well it is what it is...

to quote Geore Carlin from "the american Dream"

Forget the politicians, they’re irrelevant.

Politicians are put there to give you that idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations, and they’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the State Houses, and the City Halls. They’ve got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear.

They’ve got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else. But I’ll tell you what they don’t want—they don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking.

They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interest. You know something, they don’t want people that are smart enough to sit around their kitchen table and figure out how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago."
