First Shipment Of Russian S-300 Rockets Arrives In Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

Two days ago we reported that the most recent escalation in the Syrian proxy war involved a bitter exchange between Russia and Israel, where the latter warned the former that it would proceed with destroying any arms shipments from Russia into Syria, specifically referencing the S-300 missiles that has been known to be en route to Damascus for several weeks now. The Israel defense minister warned that: "The shipments haven't set out yet and I hope they won't. If they do arrive in Syria, God forbid, we'll know what to do." Well, according to Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar not only has the shipment been sent out, but it has already arrived. Check to Israel and coming through on its warning to begin an offensive action not only against Syria, but more importantly, implicitly against Russia.

More:

"Syria has received the first shipment of Russian anti-aircraft S-300 rockets," Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar newspaper quoted Assad as saying in an interview due to be broadcast later on Thursday.

More of the missiles would arrive soon, he was quoted as saying.

Russia has said it would deliver the missile system to the Syrian government over Western objections, saying the move would help stabilize the regional balance.

A staunch ally of the Assad government, Moscow has appeared to grow more defiant since the European Union let its arms embargo on Syria expire, opening up the possibility of the West arming the rebels battling to topple the president. The embargo lapses on June 1.

The United States, France and Israel have all called on Russia to stop the missile delivery.

So much for the United Stated, French and Israel's foreign policy leverage, at least in the eyes of Gazpromia Russia, for whom preserving the veto power on Qatar gas pipelines into Europe is the only prerogative.

And just like Israel couldn't get enough of scaremongering about the Iranian nuclear facility in Fordow which was said would lead to the war if left unchecked (we are still waiting), now it is the turn to blindly accuse Syria of preemptive "defensive" violence:

Officials in Israel, the United States' main ally in the region, say the S-300 could reach deep into the Jewish state and threaten flights over its main commercial airport near Tel Aviv.

Israel, wary of any Syrian weapons being sent to Hezbollah in Lebanon, has already launched three air strikes against Damascus to stop suspected transfers.

Sources close to the Russian weapons export monopoly Rosoboronexport said last year that an earlier agreed S-300 deal had been frozen due to concerns over violence in Syria. But one of the sources said Syria had already paid 20 percent of the contract price.

Earlier this month, Israel was reported to have told Washington that Syria had begun payments for a $900 million purchase of S-300s, with an initial deliver due within three months

So if the missiles, shown below, have indeed arrived, look for red flashing headlines about loud explosions in Syria in the next 24 hours. And after that, look for even redder flashier headlines, describing Russia's response.

Ummmm, actually, I think the downvotes were because, instead of providing a brief summary and a link to the article, you simply copied and pasted it (and then neglected to provide a link).

As you've only been here for five weeks, you may not realize this, but many here are quite well aware of repugnant creatures like Leo Strauss and Irving Kristol, the loathesome "thing" that they spawned called neoconservatism, and its roots in communism.

For the benefit of those who didn't already know the above information, a summary and a link to the article would be more helpful.

It's likely that the downvotes were not because "the truth hurts", but because you pasted a metric assload of text that was old news.

How is it that the Syrian government can recieve such a big and complex weapons system?

Because it was there all along. When you hear it in the news that means that it already happened long ago. Like I said before, if you were Russia would you announce to the world that you were giveing the Syrians a missle system? No, you would get it there first like about 3 months ago and then you would have a training excercise in Russia (like they are doing now) to train the Syrians on how to use it properly (because atm there are Russians manning it in Syria) and that's the way it goes.

I think the attacks that Israel launched a few weeks ago against Syria were an attempt to take them out or at least expose them but that is just speculation on my part. By the way , you don't pay for weapons like that. You don't pay for shit when superpowers are usiing your country to fight a proxy war.

I hav to laugh at Israel and the USA's reasoning.  They do not want Syria to have the ability to "defend: itself agains aircraft flying over its terrain so they won't have to worry about drones and other flying aircraft being shot down as they implement a "No fly" zone.

Israel and the USA have to realize, it is a human right to defend if attacked.  As far as been publicized, the Russian "Anti Aircraft" missiles are defence weapons, not offesnsive.

What is Isreal and the USA worried about?  Human rights?  Tell that to the victims of collateral damage, the dead and wounded in Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Gaza and Afghanistan?

Regardless if one is pro or anti Israel, in pure clinical and objective terms, it is our should be self-evident that...

If a small nation opts for nuclear war, that this is the end of that nation.  No matter how much damage it thinks it can inflict elsewhere, the nuclear annihilation in such a small geographic area would be complete.  And the afterglow would last for thousands of years.  Not to mention that their people would be hunted down mercilessly in the rest of the world -- hunted down to the man, woman or child.  They would be genetically eradicated.

Israel knows this, and all the other smart people know this also.  The Nuke 'option' in no offensive option, in the final analysis.  It is merely a retaliatory defensive option against a much larger nuclear power.

And Iran having one nuke or more, does not mean that Israel will be in danger.  It only means that it cannot be attacked by Israel or the US, to prevent it from supporting Hezbollah.  THAT is the real motivation there.  And with a nuclear Iran, it would force the Likud to finally come to the negotiation table with more genuine intentions than they have to date.  And this is where there real 'rub' is:  Having a fair and negotiated peace settlement goes counter to Likud (read Zionist) strategic intentions.  It is not against the intentions or interests of Israel (a nation of mixed political and ideological views), but against a very stubborn and well-financed subset of Israelis:  the Zionists in the Likud.  And, as the Likud goes, so does the US.  Capisce/comprendere?

@They trynna cat

Israel already lost that battle. Her horrific judgment (A.D. 70) for the murder of her Messiah is well-documented.

It is the twisted interpretation of the relatively-new "Dispensational" view of the Bible that gives any credence to the notion that its prophecies of Israel predict world dominion.

There is no longer "Jew or Gentile" in God's view. (see Romans 10:12). For "There is no respect of persons with God" (Romans 2:11).

The problem with the great majority of evangelical christianity in the west is they don't understand the difference between the Biblical ideal of Israel during the Old Testament, and Zionism which has nothing whatsoever to do with that.

"Israel" ceased to be a tribe of kinsmen 2,000 years ago. Anyone can be an Israelite today--you just have to let the right one in.

As for how things are going to play out from here on out, the Book of Revelation is pretty clear about that. And that has nothing to do with Dispensationalism.

The Book of Revelation has largely been fulfilled. It was written to encourage Christians about things that were "shortly to come" for "the time is at hand".

Who writes a letter to encourage others about to endure terrible persecution with events 2,000 (or more) years later?

Dispensationalism has done more to destroy true Christianity than many 'external' factors. (It's roots go back to a Jesuit theologian as a way to overthrow the Protestant faith)

"Who writes a letter to encourage others about to endure terrible persecution with events 2,000 (or more) years later?"

The one who knew what would come to pass in 2,000 years, because he is outside of time.

As for the "time is at hand" remark, the entire Revelation is written in allegory and code. The time has in fact been at hand for over 1,000 years now as we see the pieces moving into place. We know that the mark of the beast is the mark of a man, 666, and that mark is clearly displayed on the flags and synagogues of those still waiting for their satanic messiah.

You miss the point. Entirely.

John was writing to "the seven churches of Asia". The book has applications and truths for us today, but it was written AS A LETTER TO REAL CHURCHES in John's day!!

It was NOT written in allegory and code, (though it was written in apocalyptic language with reference to Old Testament imagery). In fact, John says at the beginning...

"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand". (Rev 1:3)

There was a blessing upon those who read and understood the letter. To write so as to make it next to impossible to understand would have been a curse.

Further, for you to say that the "time is at hand" means it has been so for over 1,000 years, is as inane an argument as one could imagine, and makes the language meaningless.

To tell someone that something is "at hand" but know that it isn't going to happen for another 1 or 2 thousand years, is to be deceitful and a liar. Are you really willing to charge the apostle John with that in your defense of your wild interpretation?

That's like saying that Jesus' words to the disciples were directed only to them, when they were clearly meant as a message to all Jesus' later followers who would read the Gospel centuries afterward.

"If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first."

By your reasoning, the entire New Testament is to be read as some sort of historical novel wherein the words contained applied only to that present time or the time immediately after.

Also by your reasoning the beast (the antichrist) already came and went, since "the time was at hand," right? And what about the end of the world and the second coming as described in Revelation? Already happened, huh?

The official position of the Catholic Church is that much of the Bible is written as allegory. This obviously makes perfect sense when you consider examples such as the passage in Isaiah that appears to be speaking to the King of Babylon but is obviously speaking to Lucifer (son of the morning).

How someone could believe that the "Book of Revelation," that speaks to the end of the world, has already come to pass, is beyond me.

"How someone could believe that the "Book of Revelation," that speaks to the end of the world, has already come to pass, is beyond me."

You should never boast about ignornance on a public forum. It could come back to haunt you at a later time. ;-)

Go back and reread my post. I never said that  the whole NT was to be read as a historical novel. What I am saying is that before you can get a right interpretation, you must consider the context in which it was written!

When Jesus said, "If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first," He was speaking to His disciples gathered around Him, and by EXTENSION and application to all His followers from then on. But He wasn't talking to people in the 21st century and IGNORING those to whom He was speaking, which is what you say John's methodology was.

This out-of-context interpretation of the Bible is the major glaring deficiency of Dispensational theology.

Thu, 05/30/2013 - 20:47 | 3612210 They trynna cat...
They trynna catch me ridin dirty's picture

I'm not a Dispensationalist, and believing that the Book of Revelation is unfolding today is not Dispensationalism.  So let's get that straight.  Just as Jesus spoke to His disciples and by EXTENSION and application to all of us today, He also spoke to John and the churches of Asia and by EXTENSION all of us today.  Reading the substantive message of Revelation that's pretty obvious to me at least.

So you don't believe that the Star of David = mark of the beast = 666 (six points six angles six sides)?

You don't believe that "those who claim to be Jews and are not" are the Ashkenazim?

You don't believe that "the beast" will be the antichrist who will rule from Jerusalem, and who receives his power from "the dragon" (satan), and that he will be worshipped as he makes war with Christian believers?

You don't believe everyone will be forced to receive the mark of the beast in order to be able to BUY OR SELL (exactly where we are headed with a one world electronic currency and eventual microchip implants)?

Based on your belief that all of God's punishment has already been meted out on this earth (as opposed to the afterlife) suggests to me that you're the Old Testament Dispensationalist, not me.

Why is oil going higher when everyone is using less and holding larger reserves?

To soak up those extra dollars pumped into insolvent banks that are leaking into the 'real' (manipulated) economy and to keep them from coming back to the US and triggering inflation beyond what already exists and crashing widespread confidence in the Dollar.

Ponzinomics.

Life in the USA is gonna start sucking hard when we have to pay for oil (and every import) with real money instead of printed funny money.

this is the first time anybody has pushed back against globalist ambitions in the region, the irony is of course that it's another globalist doing the pushing.

that's not to say they don't compete with each-other and it would be a mistake to assume they are one big happy family. maybe Putin is trying to shake down his cohorts for a bigger place at the table or maybe he has not been given assurances that Tartus will remain under Russian military control once the US/UN backed terrorists (maybe but becoming increasingly less likely)   oust Assad.

or maybe he sees the reality of the situation on the ground and realizes that these so called "rebels" are getting there asses kicked all over Syria by the Syrian army and have no hope winning militarily. he sees the west's plan for Syria has failed spectacularly, the Army stayed loyal to Assad, the foreign, jihadist, extremist al-ciada terrorists have been outed publicly and Assad finds himself with the moral high-ground while his forces are turning engagements into routes.

i think he see's this as an opportunity to assert Russian influence on a geopolitical scale that has not been possible for decades. after all, it is becoming increasingly more apparent that despite globalization the east and west still view the world as one giant chess board and Putin just moved to knock a few of the west's pawns off the board, while saving his own...

A couple dozen S300 launchers can be rendered completely useless with simple drones armed with hellfire missiles. Either waste the missle on the drone (which it might not hit) or be taken out by a relatively inexpensive and easily replaceable missile. Even if they had 100 launchers which they do not, it wouldn't take more than 24 hrs to eliminate them completely.

Hey fumduck, when your radar lights up you don't know if it's a drone or an attack plane.  It's up to 150 km away.  So the guys manning the missle battery have to make an imperfect decision and take action.

If they are using counter measures as any Nato country would, any attack will LOOK LIKE thousands of false images.  Or your screen will be a total haze.  As soon as you leave your radar active for a while or fire a missile, that is the bait -- now a real plane will locate and take out the battery.

israel isnt attacking/targeting russia per se if it destroys russian made weapons used by muslims, but those who are using these weapons, dont get your panties in a bunch, there s not going to be a war between israel and russia ever. Russia couldnt care less if the muslims who bought their weapons got those weapons destroyed, as long as they paid for it.

Hezbollah attacking rebel-held town in Syria:

Good for them. And how's this for a laugh:

"The US State Department has demanded that Hezbollah withdraw its fighters from Syria immediately."

Step back and consider the forest instead of looking at the trees:  The plan for the New World Order that was set forth by Samual P Huntington in his book, The Clash of Civilizations and Remaking the World Order, was for Russia to be the center of one of the six or seven cultural blocks into which the world was to be divided. I assume that may include Syria and Iran as well as various Caucusus States and some other States in that region.  It will take a little more push, to form them into a close coalition. That is what I suspect these current events represent.

But, what is planned for the other side?... Isreal's use of a WMD on Syria, in particular, a tatical nuc on Damascus, provides the justification for their complete destruction. That also meets the conditions set forth in the prophecy in Odediah (as most Jews, today, are descended from Edom more than from the Hebrews.) --- Not that I believe those prophecies but I believe that some people who have more faith than reason will expect them to transpire and be guided by them. So, they may well happen. ---  They predict the utter extermination of the House of Edom. That will be the real holocaust, which the West and Germany has already paid for, and it also is the intended outcome of WWIII.

The stage is now set.
