Sales Of George Orwell's 1984 Have Surged 6884% In The Last 24 Hours
In the last 24 hours, sales of the 'big brother' book 1984 on Amazon.com have soared by almost 7000% as the reality of the surveillance state come to the public's attention. As Liberty Blitzkrieg's Mike Krieger notes, we suppose it makes sense that people would want to get up to speed on the dystopian world being constructed rapidly and secretly around them. 1984 is now the 4th fastest rising sales book and 184th most popular on Amazon!
The Centennial Edition 1984 book...
And the Combination 1984/Animal Farm book
Perhaps this tweet sums it up...

+10.
But bear in mind that it is tactically useful to think that TPTB are the masters-of-the-world when it comes to "Leveraging". They will 'leverage' (lever, ratchet, borrow, steal, usurp) any and all Assets, Ideas and Connections of the Masses. This includes leveraging Ancient Prophecies & Myths, Literature, Technology, Sci-Fi plots & tech ideas, and ZH ideas.
Forward!!!
close - "Foward" (sheep can't spell)
What about the number of seeds and leeches for the same books on the.pirate.bay?
Or the fact 1984 is public domain and the e-book can be downloaded for free,
http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks01/0100021.txt
Lot of good free public domain drm free e-books there like 1984 and Animal Farm along with other classics.
Another good way to get on the Main Core list.
Thanks for the link
Good point! 13 leeches for the movie; 11 for the pdf. Ho hum....
TV/FB/Twitter = Soma = Brave New World.
Anti-depresents in general... something like 11% of the population is on them, though I suspect the number is much higher. Then factor in the % who are on "illegal" mind altering drugs... not to mention what we consume through the food and water supply that we aren't even aware of... We have Soma in spades.
What if one could enslave people without pissing them off while one does it?
Well, friend - it can be done!
America, a nation of opium addicts. But don't worry, they are addicted to legal, prescription drug forms of opium, so its ok!
And add DS, Wii and XBox for the children. Think of the children.
Wait till you see The Next Big Thing that MS is coming out with.
Sheep can read? How's their comprehension?
I want to see the stats on sales of the 1984 DVD.
I got both.... the book for me to read before using the DVD as a "conversation starter" with friends.
Contact the NSA/CIA they can tell you who bought and where they live.
Just remember in the end "he loved Big Brother". For what it's worth.
SPOILER ALERT!
I suggest the sheep read:
The Nightmare Years, 1930-1940 By William L. ShirerExcellent book.
Also: The Dark Valley, A Panorama of the 1930s, by Piers Brendon (Jonathan Cape, London).
ZHers should also maintain a copy of Black's Law.
That was the old ZH... Nowadays they only need to keep a handy pocket version of "A Fiddler of the Roof"...
Tyler,
The advertizements are unbefitting ZH. If " From Around The Web" were a least in the same vein of ZH member interests I could understand. Penis pumps and prescription drugs.............great
At first I couldn't figure out what you were talking about, Then, I realized that you need https://adblockplus.org/ .
In principle I don't mind supporting ZH by turning off Ad-Blocker here, but I remember seeing crap like what you observed, and now choose to see no more of it.
they only showed up today. I'm like WTF. Who turned off the adblocker that I never knew I had. I hardly notice the top of the page and the side bar, its the new ones that are between the body of the article and the comments section
I also use an addon called disconnect. on this page it blocks 8 google request 1 facebook and 2 twitter requests.
Yeah, BK used to work at Google and DoubleClick, so he really knows tracking.
He also went to the same High School as Max Keiser (different years of course)
What is the matter with you? Jeeze... Google has determined that these ads are of interest/import to you. Who are YOU to question what they have deemed to be your interest???? Personally, I took it as a complement when they kept sending me ads to join MENSA....
DB- by the way, +100000000000
Agreed, I rarely even notice Ads!
Use Ghostery.
Ironically, I get 'the other Kirk' -- the Risen Negotiator -- as my Personal Negotiator in the sidebar ads for Priceline. After I actually used that site, again.
Must be the NSA buying them to keep them off the shelves.
What's the latest on that movie called "Clockwork Obama"?
This guy, Clapper, is right out of Strangelove, q.v.
Apple will be using the classic commercial to advertise their new OS.
I believe America is experiencing the backside of curve when putting to use the old economic theory of The Law of Diminishing Returns from a technological/societal standpoint. From the first Big Blue until the initial stages of the internet we were getting great returns concerning productivity and societal issues. Life was made easier as a whole. Over the last few years we hit a peak and this latest information pretty much confirms we are in the midst of experiencing negative returns from all of these technological advances. Sure there are some niche pockets in business/medical/transportation that can still benefit but when looking at society as whole I can't come to any other conclusion. Now the question is will the authority ever come to that same conclusion (assuming I'm right) and then what to do about it.
I have a feeling the authority/elites will, in the words of Dylan Thomas, "not go gentle into that good night". Maybe the real question is will the citizens go gentle. Who blinks first?
Ah yes, life's about to become a real 'Bitch', when Mother Nature makes the two-edged sword of Demographics and Finite Growth swing against you. Those who think they understand math (exponential growth), are about to learn that some equations have what is called a Domain and Range.
For better or for worse, the rich and TPTB are trying to front-run that in their way, the way you are trying to in your way (on your budget and network). In our case it'll be Survival of the Fittest, and in their case Survival of the Best Leveraged. Or so they think.
1984 is long out of copyright in civilized places of the world.
Here's all of his novels for E-readers, via Australia (which the US is bullying atm over the laws it wants in place). I'd recommend "Homage to Catalonia" as well.
Obviously, if you are a Citizen of the USA or a member of the EU you would be breaking your local law to read these within your National Boundary. That is between you and the NSA and the US / EU held copyrighter if you chose to break said law.
Got Mine a couple of days ago....
+1,000,000 Great Share!!
Thank You!
"Call that a book? Now that's a book!" Gotta love those Aussies.
Shame about how that Crocodile Hunter (Paul Hogan) got screwed 'royally' by his trust fund manager. Every time this happens to Commoners, a NWO Devil gets his bat wings, I hear.
I think the thing that surprises me the most is that the more tech savy youth is okay with this shit. I can see some of the easily frightened seniors who don't understand what's going on in thin world. But then again I see what some of these idiots are willing to put out there in public via Farcebook and other social networking platforms, and their stupidity helps me to understand.
Sheep seem OK with being sheared and having their young eaten at Easter.
and poked in their pooper
The way I see it, feet on the ground (as good ole Simon Black would say) is that kids at 19 are pretty much the same as 19 year old kids of every other generation, except those faced with a military draft.
They are not very political, and they are still very naive (or, 100 out of 100 on a naivety scale).
Friends and acquaintances of mine, closer to 29, are starting to get political, but still naive.
My acquaintances here on ZH are, what 35-55, on avg? And we are not naive in the slightest, any more.
Give it time. Help the kids out. Judging them (as being hopeless) won't help.
"Sheep seem OK with being sheared and having their young eaten at Easter."
~~~
& having the blood of that slaughter tactfully used to ward off 'evil' by special populations...
The reason the sheep analogy is so apt is because of how sheep are kept 'in line'. Just have a sheep dog run by and stand there menacingly!
"I think the thing that surprises me the most is that the more tech savy youth is okay with this shit."
That doesn't surprise me at all and is why we're doomed. An ignorance of history and the reasons behind the Bill of Rights has resulted in the corporate and government desired generation of complacent consumers of games and circuses.
Not all youths.
My daughter and son-in-law hate Dick and his StasiState.
I agree, not all youths. Just far too many.
Stoopity Rools!!
So how is it possible that the terrorist attack on the Boston marathon went ahead when the plot should have been discovered by all this surveillance ?
Is it because the NSA is more interested in other targets ?
Thanks for listening, NSA, to these musings on this site.
Each NSA puke should examine their conscience when they realise that the snooping is not meant for murderous ‘terrorists’ but for the peaceful human beings who don’t like a criminal government.
Good question. I guess the answer must be we need more surveilance.
Or maybe they're not really into catching the terrrrsts?
Why would they be interested in catching themselves?
"So how is it possible that the terrorist attack on the Boston marathon went ahead when the plot should have been discovered by all this surveillance"
And how was the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, the Times Square bomber, the Fort Hood shooter, etc., not found with this system? Because they are buried in huge quantities data until they perfect supercomputer algorithms to dig through it all in near real time IF they ever do.
Maybe they need 'Satoshi'... But nobody can seem to find him anywhere [save for a statue surrounded by burning incense on fonestars altar in his mom's basement]...
The problem is that Orwell was too optimistic in 1984.
Next up: Banning books
The government schools and libraries have been successfully doing that for a couple of decades now. Books that promote perversion are OK, but books that promote real History and real thinking are quite off limits.
And then there are the Internet filters, which block anything the current totalitarian regime sees as threatening (racism, hate, homophobia, Holocaust(TM) investigation, European traditionalism, etc.)
So many people died during WWII, soldiers and civilians, every life lost was tragic and criminal. So its not that the Holocaust was unimportant, its just that millions of people of every ethnicity and walk of life all were massacred. The just thing is to treat all the lives lost equally, not to lament the loss of one's own people, at the expense of forgetting the sacrifice of others.
Don't need to, they made them electronic. Now they can be read like the government commands.
Alas, der sheeple!
1984 meant to be a warning... not a how to manual. CLASSIC!!!
Sales are up because the GOVERNMENT is buying these by the pallet.
New DHS Advisory:
"In addition to being an American Citizen, anyone with a copy of 1984 is to be shot on sight."
The Constitution actually was meant to be a manual...
It's still not as bad as 'possession of the constitution,' which will get you spreadeagled and handcuffed in a hurry.
I received my new copy of 1984 last night from Amazon and read it cover to cover. I especially liked how Winston and Julia realize the errors of their ways and voluntarily choose to join O'Brien as Warriors of the Party. The new introduction by Barack OBama and John McCain was a welcome addition, too.
Have you read the new revised edition?
Ron Paul is Emmanuel Goldstein.
Clearly, Feinstein needs to take a request to the FISA court (hahahhaha - court) to ban this book.
I'm guessing the FISA "court" is manned by Blackwater or Bozo Allen contract employees.
What if it is the DHS that is buying and stockpiling these copies of 1984?
Would be nice to see an uptick in The Federalist Papers too...
Once I would have agreed with you.
Now I see the Federalist Papers as absurd lies and broken promises by the plotters who took down the Articles of Confereration (which never would have allowed the fedgov to become this powerful).
Maybe they believed their own bullshit. But they destroyed state sovereignty, and liberty along with it.
Player Piano - Vonnegut
.
What the f**k is "Walking on Water" doing as #1 increase in sales? I clearly can't trust those people!
Some gold book is doing better at #2 spot.
Dull people again jumped on a Glenn Beck's book, probably ghost-written.
How's "To Serve Man" doing?
its doing very well with the bath salts crowd
Join me for dinner tonight, and we can discuss it. By the way, show up at least 3 hours early.
"Professor! Get off the space ship! It's a Cookbook!!"
I luv that episode.
We need Rod Serling.
We need a movie, TV reality show, or Xbox version in order to reach the young brainwashed idiots.
Perhaps a cartoon series? Matter and anti matter dont mix. The medium is the message.
David Brooks as Big Pop?
The Greatest Movie of All Time:
(in the LC Collection)
The Wild Bunch
Guys, this is encouraging!
The takeaway line from Orwell (paraphrased) the kids need to remember is:
"Imagine a jackboot stomping on a human face forever."
'nuff said.
Down with Tyranny!
Keep Stackin' Bit-Chez!!
Vonnegut's Player Piano has already been mentioned ... brilliant dissection of corporatism as well as the future Vonnegut saw immediately post-war where first the physically-skilled workers would be displaced, and later even the knowledge workers.
A lesser-known work that is perhaps more relevant to today's situation is Ira Levin's This Perfect Day ... a novel with a cradle-to-grave society that has succeeded in erasing most knowlege of history in favor of a persistently drugged and child-like populace who are essentially fed human chow and Cokes and who no longer use money, instead being informed by computer link whether they can or cannot have a particular item from a store shelf based on cybernetic whim--indeed all of what we would view as choices are instead directed by computer. They also die at age 62 (death panels, anyone?), unaware that their euthanasia is not simply the natural order of things.
It's as if the clone society of the movie The Island has been extended to all of humanity. Naturally to make the plot move forward, the protagonist hears some stories from a grandfather who can still remember how things were before the control grid was imposed, and he accidentally doesn't receive his drugging and thereafter contrives to avoid it.
Good book. Perhaps better at seeing where we're all going than 1984, although lacking the political exposition.
PEOPLE:
Laugh at these motherfuckers. Laugh at them. JUST LAUGH.
Sure, they have all these great toys. They can instantly search and find what you are reading, what you are saying, what you are buying, what sites you visit, who you know, what porn you like......
What they DON'T know:
How far you are willing to go to protect your way of life.
How far others will go to help you.
The repercussions of their actions.
Their "intelligence" gathering program does not yield the answers they're really looking for, and is therefore ineffective.
LONG SAVAGERY.
How far you are willing to go to protect your way of life?
You'll go into debt and onto antidepressants to conform to their vision for you.
How far others will go to help you?
They won't stop when they see you stuck on the side of the road.
The repercussions of their actions.
None, because the people won't act. Or rather, continuation of the path chosen by the elites.
@ Flacorps:
Don't be too sure of your answers. IF you are sure, then: Can you really fault the elitists for their thinking?
I find myself in a moral quandary sometimes. I hate this shit, and everything these people believe. BUT, it's no stretch of the imagination to understand their thinking. They look up to the eptomes of culture......and see dumbasses everywhere they look.
I agree with them, that the world would be better off, if there was a "Great Culling of the Masses"........
At the same time, I do care about other people. We'd be better off, as a species, if people abandoned the idea of "What's cool".
As someone who values high art, high culture, high music....I understand their thinking. It saddens me to see people idolize bullshit.
People are naive, but at the same time, they have been kept in ignorance, misled, and lied to their entire life.
If you are lying to people (as the elite continually are), can you really despise them for believing your lies?
Orwell was a pie-eyed optimist. 1984 arrived in sort of the early 70?s, and ah, Orwell’s vision of a horrible future which was a boot stomping on a human face forever is a utopian image because he assumes there would be resistance and human faces; both of which may turn out to be false.
An excellent commentary on this whole debate is Niel Postman's "Amuzing Ourselves To Death" where he makes the hypothesis that in fact, Huxley's Brave New World is the real state to be on guard for.
For myself, a combination of both, as illustrated by the idea that 60% of Americans don't mind being spied upon, seems to show that the mix is the the future and the problem.
Back to sleep, America! We're on your side! And those that are not? They get the boot to the face.
V-V
I think we are still in a Huxley Love Your Servitude phase. Once the laws and brown shirts to implement them are in place we will get to the Orwellian boot phase.
Eventually, one of the masses will think that they are missing something. Something more important than twittering while watching honey boo boo while eating doritos and drinking coke. After questioning a few friends if they feel the same way, a boot will be placed on his neck until the feeling of loss passes.
Its called Top-Down, Bottom-Up, Inside-Out
Welcome to a brave new world...the new world order.
Things will be escalating exponentially. Can it be stopped?
That's doubleplus unbad!
The word "Bad" doesn't exist, citizen.
Please use
good, gooder or double-plus good
ungood, ungooder, or double-plus ungood.
A simple language is a good language.
Hollywood primes us for all of this we just don't realize it at the time. In the mid 90's Will Smith's "Enemy of the State" and the series currently on the air "Person of Interest" shows us all we need to know of what it is capable at a minimum.
Since The Dictator hijacked the presidency, sales of the Communist Manifesto are up 188,347%.
We recommend Animal Farm as well ...
RIP George.
Should be reading Brave New World. It's more appropriate.
Why do people have to choose one or the other? Surely there is no time constraint, thus no need to choose one OR the other?
Read both when I was 14.
The "kid" isn't done talking yet. I think there is more to come out. Since the left and right now hate him,,
If he was smart all them documents are in multiple locations along with instructions and pre-recorded interviews or general statements from him in case they suicide him before he is finished getting what he wants out to the public.
Fuck Holden Caulfield.
The NSA stuff is already mostly out of the on-line mainstream news. We're currently back to the diversionary hot button topics of "immigration reform" and "affirmative action" about which nothing of any actual significance will be done on either topic, as usual.
The NSA have placed a block order for their favorite training manual.
"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever".
Unfortunately "Why Isn't My Brain Working?" is ranked above 1984. Apparently people are starting to think maybe they made the wrong choice but nothing makes sense anymore to them.
Princeton University campus being evacuated immediately
I bet they won't read it !!
You know that 60% who don't really mind being spied upon?
The same 60% who don't really mind giving you a fatal electric shock.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment
Honestly, some people are just followers. Maybe even most (i.e. 60%).
Personally, I enjoy hanging out in small groups, and having meaningful discussion (something which I find doesn't happen in groups of 4 or more), while others seem to THRIVE off being in groups of 4 or more, all day, every day. To each their own!
Most people are whores in some form or another........ Very few truly virtuous people in this world. Morals and virtues are mutually inclusive with religion regardless of what the establishments will tell you. It comes first and foremost from the inside and individual without coercion from the outside.
And, if history is an indicator, they will one day claim that they were "... just following orders". And almost all will get off ('re-purposed' for future projects), save those Useful Tools who will be made an example of.
BTW, Obama is watching who is buying the book to send the IRS guys and put them under survillance !!
Nah. we're not an immediate threat yet, but we'll get there.
Why buy the book when you can experience 1984 for free on the web. Just check any University for the statement of principles and you get a Brave New World of double speak.
One of the most shocking interviews i'v ever seen, given in 1984
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLsi0Ialvxk
The Interviewer is G Edward Griffin, author of "Creature of Jekyll Island".
And the Russian KGB defector (Yuri Bezmenov) he is interviewing looks like a young version of Anthony Sutton: youtube.com/watch?v=tKKDOgiHUdk
Sutton, interestingly enough, is also a Brainwashing expert, but seem very much an Englishman.
(in my best Borat) "Ver Nice!"
"DHS, the TSA... are going to be elbow deep in riot control in response to an economic incident. At the same time or close to it, gun confiscation will start. It will start on a voluntary basis using federal registration forms, then an amnesty,"
Same as how gold confiscation would go. I don't believe the next step could be taken, i.e. prying guns from cold dead hands is unlikely to be efficient.
Interesting. Normally I'm skeptical about most things, including this content.
But what has me a bit 'bothered', is something I have never seen in the US before: Significant movements of US Army personnel and gear on public roads. First on I-90, some weeks ago east of Seattle (a whole battery of Patriot missiles etc), and again last weekend in Bend, OR. Even my kids commented on this. WTF is going on?
I hear ya. I'm usually very skeptical as well but some dots are started to get connected and its scary.
The primary function of democratic government is representation, not control.
I just read the 'Privacy' [cough, cough] Policy of my DirecTV account and nearly fell out of my chair. I almost responded with the following text, but decided to post it here instead:
===
What your 'Privacy' Policy [LOL] is telling us, is that DirecTV does not give a sh*t about our Privacy. It might as well read:
"You don't have any privacy with us. We collect everything about you that we can, and then process, store, and sell it to anyone for a buck. And we give it to the 'Constitution-and-Bill-Of-Rights-raping' bastards at the NSA for free. In real time. While you watch us, BigBro@NSA and BigHo@DHS watch you".
Forgive my sarcasm and vivid imagery, but you get the JPG/MPEG. The point is: "DirecTV cannot be trusted, and might as well be Big Bro."
Expect your (more informed and privacy-loving) customers to adapt/counter accordingly.
===
p.s. Oh crap, now they're hip to my shows that include Doomsday Peppers, documentaries, Free Speech TV, Military Channel, How Things Are Made, Ancient Aliens, etc. Note to self: Must spend time on MSNBC and Fox to really confuse them. Thank God my wife watches DWTS, Hallmark and Family channels. But when did she add those porn channels to her profile? /s
WTF are people going to do when they read the book and figure out the other "1984" type shit the Powers That Be exercise.
Spying -OK, got that one.
Ministry of Truth - Oh shit, got that one, too. And a MSM to support it.
Ministry of Law - Yep They make up shit as they go along, do it in secret, and it doesn't apply to everyone.
Ministry of Justice - Actually don't have that, just Holder.
Ministry of Finance - AKA The Ministry of Fuck-You-in-the-Ass-and-get-bonuses-for-it. Bankers on vacation from WS.
Ministry of Wealth Effect - guess who
Yep. It's like a list of characters who are, or should have been in 1984.
