'Chiraq' Update: Illinois Overturns Ban On Concealed Weapons

Tyler Durden's picture

"Following a weekend of horrific violence in Chicago in which at least 70 people were shot and 12 killed, this was the wrong move for public safety in Illinois," Democratic Governor Jim Quinn noted as lawmakers overturned his veto to allow Illinois to become the last state in the US to allow residents to carry concealed handguns. As the BBC reports, the governor warned that the new law will allow people to carry guns in pubs and bars (and carry virtual arsenals on their persons), we suspect, if Chi-raq (the slang for the anarchic gang-ridden areas of Chicago) is any example, that this is already occurring en masse in a wide population of the state. Gun rights proponents, meanwhile, celebrated, "this is a historic, significant day for law-abiding gun owners, they finally get to exercise their Second Amendment rights."

Via BBC,

Illinois has become the last state in the US to allow residents to carry concealed handguns, after lawmakers overrode the governor's veto.

...

Mr Quinn vigorously opposed a concealed carry law, but the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal.

...

On Tuesday, legislators in the House and Senate easily mustered a two-thirds majority needed to override Mr Quinn's veto, barely beating the court deadline.

...

"Following a weekend of horrific violence in Chicago in which at least 70 people were shot and 12 killed, this was the wrong move for public safety in Illinois," Mr Quinn said in a statement after the vote.

He said legislators had "surrendered" to the National Rifle Association, a powerful gun rights lobby funded in part by weapons manufacturers.

He warned the new law would allow people to carry guns in pubs and bars, and allow people to carry virtual arsenals on their persons.

Gun rights proponents, meanwhile, celebrated.

"This is a historic, significant day for law-abiding gun owners,'' Representative Brandon Harris, a southern Illinois Democrat said, according to the Associated Press.

Referring to the clause in the US constitution that refers to gun ownership, he said, "They finally get to exercise their Second Amendment rights."

Let's get those of government on that.

Oh wait, those of government are the biggest and most prevalent killers of all. Just try tracking all the innocent or questionable murders by US gun and badge thugs on a daily basis. Not to mention some 260 million killed in the 20th. century alone by those of government.

Those of government, history shows, can only "produce," poverty, misery and death.

Time will prove you wrong. SCOTUS has ruled "shall issue", not "may issue". That's a huge difference.

We will not have to have approval by the local law enforcement for the permit to go through.

Don't fuck with the feds.

Actually, the Illinois legislature had no choice.

A Federal judge had ruled that IL must comply with the Constitution and the deadline for the hammer to come down on them was one month away. This was all BS for show. The IL legislature passed this bill to avoid embarrassment and so they could put their own restrictions on when and how weapons could be concealed and carried. Otherwise, the judge was going to decide the details and impose something on them.

Vermont still has the most lax guns laws and the lowest crime rates. Not called peacemakers for nothing. Gun bans are affirmative action for the gangstas.

Crime: The US Caucasian/Asian/Jew populations have about same homicide rate as Europe with 1.35/100K; However, Blacks are at 18/100K; Hispanics are at 8/100K.  And when you break down the ethnic violence it is massively all about the gang violence.

Blacks make up 12% of the US population, but 58% of the prison population, a nearly 500% over-representation. But wait!... it's the same in England with blacks making up just 2% of the population while making up 10% of the prison population. So is England all racist and picking on blacks, too, or is something else going on here?

Calling Piers Morgan, re: England's fake crime statistics: An exasperated Scotland Yard official calls the UK crime statistics a "Total sham." Apparently, there is far more homicides and crime than the UK government will admit since their gun ban policies.

He gives examples: "...Now, if a woman is found raped and murdered outside a bar it isn't even counted as a homicide, it's as if it never happened, unless and until there is ever an apprehension of a suspect...  and do you realize how many unsolved such cases there happens to be? Suffice to say, Jack the Ripper wouldn't even officially exist today if he were doing his deeds. Similarly, if 5 homes on a street are robbed, we are told to count them as only one offense for official purposes. And the manslaughter statistic has shot up 16% the last ten years, not because there are fewer homicides but because homicides are being reclassified as manslaughter. They are forcing us to reduce the official crime statistics while the crimes continue apace."

Now that the government has intentionally created the gang problem in the first place with the "War on Drugs", they want us to believe gun control is intended to reduce it?

I seriously doubt that if the 'War on Drugs' came to an end that the gangs would dissolve and go on to live peaceful wholesome lives. This was created by governments and media that deliberately fosted gangster culture.

They wouldn't live peacful wholesome lives, but they would not be able to afford all the ammo and guns that they can now.

I've had FBI agents agree that prohibition does nothing but increase organized crime. If THEY accept this reality then.......

A virtual arsenal would be very light to carry, and probably evade detection.

In a fire fight, it would probably not be worth that much.

Stick with steel.

Michael Hastings Said He Was Being Investigated by FBI Hours Before His Fiery Death

Hastings is best-known for his Rolling Stone cover story called "The Runaway General" that led to the resignation of the commander of the entire Afghanistan War, General Stanley McChrystal. He also wrote about the Petraeus scandal and media's cozy relationship with military elites.

(LOS ANGELES) - About 15 hours before dying in a fiery car crash at about 4:30 a.m. in L.A. on June 17, journalist Michael Hastings sent an email to several colleagues that said the FBI was investigating him and he was "onto a big story."

The 33-year-old had been working as a BuzzFeed writer and Rolling Stone contributing editor at the time of his death.

The subject line of the email, obtained by Los Angeles news station KTLA, was "FBI investigation, re: NSA."

Here's the full text:

Hey [words blurred out] — the Feds are interviewing my "close friends and associates." Perhaps if the authorities arrive "BuzzFeed GQ", er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices or related journalism issues.

Also: I'm onto a big story, and need to go off the [radar] for a bit.

All the best, and hope to see you all soon.

Staff Sgt. Joseph Biggs, who met Hastings when he was embedded in Biggs' unit in Afghanistan, described the email as "very panicked."

"It alarmed me very much," Biggs told KTLA. "I just said it doesn’t seem like him. I don’t know, I just had this gut feeling and it just really bothered me."

The FBI has denied it was ever investigating Hastings, and police do not suspect foul play in his death.

It's not clear what "big story" Hastings was referring to in his email, but he reportedly had been talking to his boss, BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith, about a story on Barrett Brown.

Brown, a journalist affiliated with the amorphous hacker collective Anonymous, was arrested for threatening an FBI officer and sharing a link to stolen credit card information taken from Stratfor. The 31-year-old, who faces up to 100 years in prison, is in jail awaiting a September trial.

The LA Times notes that Hastings was also researching a story about a privacy lawsuit brought by Florida socialite Jill Kelley against the Defense Department and the FBI.

And the subject line mentions the NSA, which has been in the news all month.

Hastings is best-known for his Rolling Stone cover story called "The Runaway General" that led to the resignation of the commander of the entire Afghanistan War, General Stanley McChrystal. He also wrote about the Petraeus scandal and media's cozy relationship with military elites.

Wikileaks tweeted this message on Wednesday:

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and officials are working to determine whether the car Hastings was driving had any mechanical problems.

Hastings' car, which was reportedly going very fast, burst into flames as it crashed into a tree.

It will be interesting to see how Chicago changes over the next few months and years.

The gangs are not going to be very happy about this development so gun violence may increase for awhile. Eventually the "good-guys" will get the upper hand when enough "bad-guys" are eliminated.

Don't worry, Chicago will prosecute the law abiding as if they were criminals because they have a narrative and a decline in crime isn't in it unless it is done by them, using their methods, which didn't even work in communist countries. Unless you were the authorities, in which case they didn't call you a criminal because they didn't dare to.

What a wonderful form of government to aspire to!

Yes, gun crime and all violent crime in IL will drop as a direct result of this.

And, no, the Left, as embodied by that idiot Qujinn, will learn nothing.   They will still know in their heart of hearts that gun control is good and gun ownership is bad.

And I intend to be first in line for the permit.

To require a permit to exercize a fundamental right is... a blatant contradiction.

A right isn't a right if you need permission, and that is precisely what a "permit" is.

The new law would allow people to carry guns in pubs and bars, and allow people to carry virtual arsenals on their persons.

#1:  What thug in a pub or bar will be as quick to pick a fight or shoot someone with a so-called "illegal gun" when everyone else in the pub may be wearing an arsenal of weapons.  Where would an honest person be more likely to need a gun to protect themself than a pub or bar (or convenience store)?

#2:  How will criminals behave when they know anyone might be carrying an arsenal of weapons on their person?

I don't drink, I don't go to pubs or bars, and I doubt I'll ever need my weapons, but three cheers for the notion that everyone becomes an arsenal of weapons.  After that?  Mass arrests of the predators DBA government.
