George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty

Tyler Durden's picture

For those who care.

Al Sharpton and the entire MSNBC cast , for whom this was nothing but a case about "guns" and "race", are furious.

From Reuters:

George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges on Saturday for the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in this central Florida town in February of last year.

If he had been convicted, the 29-year-old former neighborhood watch volunteer, who claimed he acted in self-defense, could have been sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder or up to 30 years for manslaughter.

A panel of six women jurors rendered its verdict in the case, which sparked a national debate on issues including race and profiling, after a trial that began in Seminole County court on June 10.

From NBC:

A Florida jury finds George Zimmerman not guilty.

Zimmerman, 29, said he was acting in self-defense when he shot the unarmed Trayvon Martin, 17, in the chest during an altercation in a gated community of Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26. 2012.

He was not charged for 44 tumultuous days in which the case generated large protests in several cities, turned a hooded sweatshirt like the one Martin wore into a symbol of solidarity, and drew the attention of President Obama, who said, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

As debate over race, guns and Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law swirled, a special prosecutor appointed by the governor announced April 11, 2012 that Zimmerman was being charged with second-degree murder – a move that his supporters said was meant to quell the public outcry.

Zimmerman pleaded not guilty throughout the case to the charges against him.

When the trial unfolded a year later, prosecutors argued the volunteer neighborhood watchman was a wannabe cop who “profiled” Martin as the teen walked back from buying Skittles at a 7-Eleven, and then followed him against the advice of the police dispatcher he called to report a suspicious person.

“That child had every right to be where he was,” Guy said in a closing argument.

“That child had every right to do what he was doing, walking home. That child had every right to be afraid of a strange man following him, first in his car and then on foot. And did that child not have the right to defend himself from that strange man?”

The defense told jurors that Zimmerman was just doing his civic duty when he was ambushed by Martin, punched in the face and slammed repeatedly into concrete before he fired a single shot that pierced the teen’s heart.

“That’s cement. That is a sidewalk. And that is not an unarmed teenager with nothing but Skittles trying to get home,” O’Mara said.

“The suggestion by the state that that’s not a weapon, that that can’t hurt somebody, that that can’t cause great bodily injury … is disgusting.”

Over the course of testimony, 56 witnesses took the stand, including Martin’s and Zimmerman’s parents, who disagreed about who was heard yelling for help in the background of a 911 call made by a resident of the Retreat at Twin Lakes during the fatal confrontation.

Zimmerman did not testify, but his call to the non-emergency police line, his statements to investigators and even a TV interview were part of the evidence jurors could consider. The panel was also given photos of Zimmerman’s injuries and pictures of Martin’s body at the scene and at the morgue.

Well aware of the passions surrounding the case, soon after the jury began deliberations Friday, the Seminole County sheriff appealed for calm whatever the outcome might be.

"We will not tolerate anyone who uses this verdict as an excuse to violate the law,” Sheriff Donald Eslinger said.

All of them are so fucking ignorant. The brainwashing and MSM is toxic. Medgar Evers was a republican shot dead in his driveway by an democrat like Obama and Trayvon's mom.

Frederick Douglas, MLK and his father, were all republicans. First civil right laws were passed in 1875 by GOP after the civil war, democrat Jim Crow laws were the push back. 1/3 of the people lynched were white republicans (Tuskegee Inst.). 1964 civil rights laws were a carbon copy of the 1875 laws. It was a do over for dems and they still didn't get it right. As Gov. of AR, Bill Clinton even made MLK day "Robert E. Lee Day." Welfare put African-Americans back on the plantation.

"any suggestions if your targets are .25 miles from your home?"

Yes.  Go bigger.  Anything .30 caliber and larger - preferably .338 Lapua mag or .300 Weatherby Mag..  At 440 yards the .223/5.56 is about at its lowest impact energy - especially if it originated from a carbine-length barrel.

Even though the M16A2 manual said the effective range was 450yds, we still had to qualify at 500yds in Uncle Sam's Motorcycle Club.

Target was a man sized silhouette, I always shot expert, and I'm just a good shot.

223/556 will disrupt your target, but a .30+ improves the hit and kill ratio by quite a bit.

338 lapua has a phenomenal blast signature, so don't expect to remain anonymous after firing that expensive beast.

My $.02: 7mm Remington Mag/308/30-06 - many firearms to choose from, many (i.e. cheap) ammunition suppliers to choose from, many scopes to choose from.  Extremely well known ballistics - maybe not so much for the 7mm.

On the exotic side, a 6.5mmx284 cartridge (wildcat) is currently the most popular round at 600yd and 1000yd competitions.

They had better NOT riot.  There were 73,000,000 background checks for gun puirchases in the last 5 years.  This country has purchased more gun from January to June of 2013 that at anytime during our history.  Meaning it is bad to riot, because it is likely that there are lot that are now armed and can "stand their ground" and defend themselves.

The black community needs to get their "young boys" under control and not such asses against every kind of authority.  Neighborhood watches are there because there is a history of crime, thefts, rapes, and assaults.  In my opinion, this country is NOW OFFICIALLY FINISHED with the "race card".  It has been played so much and so often for triviality it is no longer useful.  Kinda like QE, you do it all the time it looses effectiveness.

An employee of the Office of the State Attorney in Jacksonville, Fla., who testified that prosecutors withheld evidence from George Zimmerman’s defense team has been fired, his lawyer told NBC News.

Ben Kruidbos, who testified for the defense before the trial began and identified himself as a "whistleblower," alleged that his former employer concealed or was slow to deliver discovery information obtained from Trayvon Martin’s cell phone – including pictures of a hand holding a gun and a gun on a bed.

Zimmerman’s defense team has filed a motion of judicial sanctions against state prosecutors, alleging discovery violations. The state has denied these violations.

When reached for comment, state attorney’s office spokesperson Jackelyn Barnard confirmed that Kruidbos “is no longer an employee at the State Attorney’s Office.”

“Due to this being a personnel matter, there will be no further comment at this time,” Barnard said.

MARTIN FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULTING NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHMAN

(AP)--Many Floridians rejoiced to day with the acquittal of George Zimmerman, the victim of a brutal attack by a large 17-year old thug with past connections to illegal drugs, firearms and burglary activity the drug-addled youth foolishly posted on his own facebook page.

Martin was convicted posthumously, as he had been despatched by a single round from Zimmerman's 9mm pistol fired in desperation as Martin slammed Zimmerman's head repeatedly into a concrete surface after breaking his victim's nose in a flurry of blows delivered in a sustained, martial-arts offensive attack.

"Thank God we can now defend ourselves from these feral beasts who have been preying upon Floridians without fear of retribution from corrupt political appointees," said Frank Smith, a local businessman.

"The criminals have had a free reign, well maybe now we can put a stop to it," replied Frances Jones, a small woman who works late nights at the Sanford Zig-Zag Mart. "I feel like now I can stand my ground," she added. Jones has now applied for a carry permit.

Prosecutors are reported to be at a loss despite their attempts to sustain a conviction.

"We really screwed the pooch on this one," an unidentified prosecution assistant said. "I mean, we felt the level of dishonesty we lowered ourselves to would guarantee a conviction consistent with 'social justus.' Guess we were wrong. We need to get rid of jury trials if you ask me."

So where's Obama, showing leadership, calling for calm, saying the justice system has done its job and the rule of law must be respected?

Or is he just a racist thug?

Sadly, Obama IS going to use this for something.  Don't let a good crisis go to waste.

Sadly, whatever Obama does, will not be good for America.

Just another brick in the wall...

President Obama said: "If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

That Obama comment BEFORE the trial looks very much to me like he was trying to use his office and status to influence the verdict. It didn't work.

Under the UK legal system, when a person is formally charged with a crime the case becomes sub judice and such comments are not permitted as they can lead to the defence/prosecution claiming that a fair trial is prejudiced.

That rule is good if it were not for the fact that many hi-profile cases which are in the public eye take so long to come to court. Many of us believe this is no coincidence.

Well, with all due respect, "F the UK"...they long ago decided to shed their culture for policitcal correctness and 'multi-culturism' - the religion of marxism.

We actually still have something to save here in the US, very little, but we have something we can salvage...the reactions to this verdict indicate what we have to save is very small.

I sort-of agree with your comments about the UK, but they have little to do with the UK judicial system.

Hah ha hah,  What country are you living in? THERE will be nothing in the US very shortly. Prepare for that, my friend.

This case just reinforces tptb total domination theory. No more jury's of the people  coming soon.

The "media" have soiled themselves again by making the Zimmerman case about race instead of a person's right to self defense.

What Americans should be concerned about is that the government is saying by virtue of their sham prosecution "the Second Amendment gives you the right to bear arms - but don't you dare use them to defend yourself".

Al "Close Cover Before Striking School of Ministry & Heavy Machinery" Sharpton once again proves his malice to civilized society. Worms will vomit at their first taste of his buried corpse.

This was a show trial. It was politically motivated. Not saying that there should not have been a trial, since a man's life was indeed taken. I think there should have been.

But a big show. Lies and calumnies on the part of the prosecutor. The only thing missing would be planted evidence. The MSM tried their best to distort the circumstances.

And what's happened to the IRS, NSA, Rosen, AP, Benghazi, Fast n Furious, Hilary gate etc? Silencio. Nothing. Nada. A bit on Snowden himself.

The only thing bit about race mentioned in the trial was "creepy cracker", and bam, Al Sharpton et al were all over the card, in blatant disregard for the only racial slur to come out which was against Mr. Z, opening the way to decry racial profiling on his very part, etc. ad nauseum.

The divide is immense.

Who created this divide?

Who created the slums, manipulates welfare checks and laws around it, who receives the votes from people's manipulation and suffering, and maintains power by doing so?

If this president wanted to end the violence in Chicago, which is black on black for the most part,  he'd be on a plane tomorrow, sitting down with his former Chief of Staff, the Police, and probably the gangs and neighborhood leaders.

But no.

The answer is to ban all guns from the civilian population ...

What will you do when your head is banging against the sidewalk?

No, because it became a media circus which was oblivious to the facts, and a chance to play race cards by the media, certain politicians and powers that be.

Which all obfuscates real social problems and the sorry state of violence among certain demographics.

George, was innocent from the very beginning. Martin's family lawyer, the politician who charged this case be tried not to mention  Sharpton and Jackson and of course MSNBC fanned the flames.  I think George should be looking forward and naming these individuals and entities in a lawsuit, that may end this kind of thing happening in the future.

The lesson to be learned, a person has the right to kill to save his own life, whether in a "stand your ground" state or not.  The jury will now be able to view the "real" Trayvon Martin, and question why his mother through him out of the house, about drugs in his system at the night of the killing, and why he had been expelled for 53 days.

Moral to the story . . . do not be wondering through a community in a hooey, acting suspicious.  George did everything right. George also had the best lawyers anyone can find in this country, fortunately, they did not roll over and play dead like most defense attorney's do, when their goal is to plead out, instead of really doing their job and having a trial.

The Prosecuton . . . what a joke!  They were not seeking justice, they knew the law, and ignored it, this was a political assignment and hatchet job, they had to follow through on.  Hopefully this loss will plague their future careers for being a willing participant in this disaster.

It was said yesterday by a Judge being interviewed, he said, "when the law is not on your side, you argue "emotion".  That is exactly what the prosecutors were doing, wanting to send a man away based on emotion instead of the rule of law.

These prosecutors, along with the whole Justice System in this country is broken, it is now Vendetta Justice in this country by prosecutors who waste taxpayer money, pursuing prosecutions for political purposes than for Justice.

As far as the racial profiling goes, George was justified, 80% of the incarcerated prisoners in the US are Black, and of course the Black Political movement believe these Gangsta's are all innocent.  Wearing a hoodie, and wondering through a gated community at night, along with being Black was profiling and was justified.

What do you think the FEDS do to an Arab that gets on a plane in the world anymore, so it is justified for a suspect group that has a proven history of harming others.

And last, if Obama was going to have a son, he would be like Martin. (cough, cough) give me a break!  All Obama did was fan the flames in this case.  But for the actions of all these individuals, there would never have been a Kangaroo court like we all witnessed for the past weeks.   This was a political hit job.  The verdict was absolutely correct and in accordance with the law in Florida.   John

zimmerman has a long road ahead of him, if we look to precedent.  hello, OJ?

the american justice system "worked as designed", and americans just received another lesson in how it works.  what sunk the prosecution's case was jon good's testimony that gave enough reasonable doubt to find zimmerman not guilty on the charge of 2nd degree murder. good's testimony put both persons (zimmerman/martin) in a struggle to both defend themselves from additional harm. zimmerman had the equalizer (legally) and used it.

i think that the state of florida / prosecution set themselves up for failure by going for the 2nd degree murder charge. that's why the judge introduced the possibility to the jury of considering manslaughter, which only confused the jury even more. (jury must think - these people <state/prosecutors/judge> can't make up their mind what this guy is actually guilty of?)

the state took a gamble by taking this to a trial by jury in the way it did.  (i think they were over-zealous, plus martin's family wanted "justice" - i.e., 25 years to life in prison for zimmerman).  back to the lesson of how american law work, the burden of proof rests entirely with the prosecution - which, at least in the eyes of the jury, was not sufficient.  if the prosecution wanted to win (serve "justice"), then they should have gone for an involuntary manslaughter charge.  they would have had much better odds in getting a guilty verdict, as there's enough proof to establish that beyond a reasonable doubt.

Juries are pretty good overall at cutting through the bullshit. When the prosecutor disingenuously and repeatedly referred to the assailant as a *child", that only helped to ensure the not guilty verdict.

I refuse to pay attention to these sensationalist trials. But I did hear that Zimmerman was told when he called the cops to, "stay away from Martin and let the police do there job." Also he was known for calling the cops All the time about something ...and wanted to be one.

I think he's a loose cannon/itchy trigger finger/glory hound. Martin may or may not have needed killing but In my opinion that don't make Zimmerman blameless.

Taking a swing at someone is one thing. If you break someone's nose, you can still beat feet. Especially if the guy is a lard ass.

The kid thought he was in gangland or MMA, because getting on top of someone on the ground and beating their head into the curb simply goes beyond the pale.

At that point, someone is going to be seriously hurt, and you've gone far beyond defending your sense of personal space.

The level of violence is so high in certain demographics, the reasoning here is completely lost.
