GOP Statement On The "Deal": Boehner Admits Defeat
House Speaker Boehner explains in a statement how the GOP will keep fighting the good fight...
“The House has fought with everything it has to convince the president of the United States to engage in bipartisan negotiations aimed at addressing our country's debt and providing fairness for the American people under ObamaCare. That fight will continue.
But blocking the bipartisan agreement reached today by the members of the Senate will not be a tactic for us.
In addition to the risk of default, doing so would open the door for the Democratic majority in Washington to raise taxes again on the American people and undo the spending caps in the 2011 Budget Control Act without replacing them with better spending cuts.
With our nation's economy still struggling under years of the president's policies, raising taxes is not a viable option.
Our drive to stop the train wreck that is the president's health care law will continue.
We will rely on aggressive oversight that highlights the law's massive flaws and smart, targeted strikes that split the legislative coalition the president has relied upon to force his health care law on the American people.”
It seems like they are claiming victory since they saved us from a fate worse than death...

We should get the 'new and improved' Boehner about mid january when the Dems once again insist that we need to borrow more money Obama spouts his lines about how the Republicans better not mess with him or else. Then Boehner will stand up once again with his chest puffed out and his face all red and declare that he's not going to be bullied and yada yada.....and how he's not going to back down this time. Its just time for the TEA Party to be its own party and completely secede from the Republican party. F the Republican Party. Carl Rove, Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, John McShitstain and all the establishment RINOS.
Useless. Arguably the worst speaker of my generation and that includes pelosi. At least that witch got things passed. We need a new speaker and we need new blood in Washington.

What was the point of this government shutdown? He caved in and lost his hand at high stakes poker bluffing his hand. He knew he never had it in him to play his hand through. In case you didn't know, the Senate is part of Congress. The House has to negotiate with the Senate to pass appropriations, and the President can certainly veto. Thus, the minority party (Reps in this case) cannot afford to bluff. They lost. They know about as much about civics as you seem to.
You are the one that knows nothing about civics, the constitution, separation of powers, and poker. You say the Repugs had no hand, had to negotiate (cave) because they had to work with the Senate to pass appropriations and get 0zer0 to not veto them. Let's take this to it's logical conclusion. The Repugs hold firm on EVERYTHING after their first vote some three weeks ago, no funding of 0zer0care, but funding of everything else. Tell us how that is a losing hand? How do the dumbcrats defeat that? The bottom line is they can't and they knew it. That's why they ratcheted up the rhetoric and got the lamestream media to do their dirty work. Let's play along with my scenario... fast forward 3 weeks to tomorrow... D-Day and the repugs are holding firm. No new proposals except for the original that said Fund Everything BUT 0zer0care. The shutdown would have occurred, just like the last 3 weeks. 0zer0care would have rolled out and been the disaster that everyone has seen it is. The repugs will have been pillaried in the press and the polls, but so what! Polls aren't votes. Tomorrow the debt ceiling would have been reached, and then 0ZER0 would have to actually decide to prioritize payments. In other words, 0zer0 would have to do his job. If 0zer0 let's the US default, it's his problem. If 0zer0 blinks, he loses. The bottom line is the Repugs had all the winning cards and the dumbcrats and 0zer0 had nothing but bluffing. Don't believe me.... if the dumbcrats had the winning hand like you say... why didn't they get at least a one year debt ceiling extension instead of 3 months? Why didn't they get at least a one year CR, or better yet, an actual budget that INCREASES spending and RAISES taxes, which is what the dumbcrats want. C'mon, if they have the winning hands like you say... then raise, raise, and raise again.... all the way up to the table limit. But the dumcrats didn't raise. They held pat after each pass by the repugs.... that proves they didn't have anything in their hand, and they knew it. GOP had the winning hand and was bluffed to fold.... GOP = the stupid party.

The whole statute is unconstitutional. Had he stood on that ground, and refused to fund an unconstitutional law, he may have had a chance to wake some people up. Arguing and negotiating parts of the law merely validates the concept of the law.
He lost before he started.
