What The Three Month Can-Kicking "Deal" Looks Like

Tyler Durden's picture

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will soon announce an agreement to reopen the government and avert default on U.S. debt, Politico reports, according to several sources familiar with the talks. Here is what that "stunning reversal for the speaker" deal looks like. In short: the can has been kicked for three months, to early February.

Via Politico,

But the fact that House Republicans are now planning to go that route marks a stunning reversal for the speaker who had backed his conservative wing’s drive to gut Obamacare as part of the government shutdown fight, now in its third week.

...

The bill will barely scathe Obamacare, however, and putting it on the floor will mark a huge concession by the House after sparking a 16-day government shutdown over insistence that the health care law be defunded or delayed as a condition to keep the government open. Dozens of conservatives in the House will be disappointed by the proposal and Boehner will need Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to deliver a bevy of votes to pass the bill.

Reid (D-Nev.) and McConnell (R-Ky.) are very close to finishing an agreement to reopen the government through Jan. 15, lift the debt ceiling through Feb. 7 and develop a bicameral budget committee that would be required to develop a conference report by Dec. 13.

The plan includes a proposal offered by McConnell in the 2011 debt ceiling crisis that allows Congress to disapprove of the debt ceiling increase, which means lawmakers will formally vote on whether to reject of the debt ceiling increase until Feb. 7. Obama can veto that legislation if it passes. If Congress fails as expected to gather a two-thirds majority to override the veto, the debt ceiling would be raised.

The deal would also deliver back pay to furloughed federal workers, require income verification for people seeking health-insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act and also allow the Treasury Department to use extraordinary measures to pay the nation’s bills if Congress doesn’t raise the debt ceiling by Feb. 7.

And The Hill adds:

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) presented the deal to his conference Wednesday morning. Republican senators quickly rallied around the proposal, which would fund government through Jan. 15.

McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) put the finishing touches on the proposal after an effort by House Republicans to advance a competing resolution collapsed Tuesday.

The bipartisan agreement would also raise the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling until February, setting the stage for budget talks between the Senate and House.

Reid and McConnell announced the deal on the Senate floor shortly after noon.

...

If the legislation passes as expected, it would set up a Senate-House conference to negotiate fiscal reforms, which must be reported to Congress by a certain date.

The bill will allow President Obama to retain his power to use so-called extraordinary measures to preserve the ability of the government to pay its bills once it reaches the debt limit. The Treasury Department informed Congress in May that it had begun to use such measures to manage the debt ceiling.

Here is a very succinct summary of our situation from Dave Hodges:

"

Shovel dirt on America’s grave. The America we knew has died. The present thievery of the banks constitutes the last great American garage sale as the vulture bankers are picking the financial bones of America completely clean. The banks and their executives are trying to steal everything that is not nailed down. They have commenced attacking the pensions and soon it will be the bank accounts, houses, farms and businesses of America. In short, the banks are to come out the other side of a financial collapse with as many tangible assets as possible. The American middle class is being asked to bear the burden of the entire derivatives market which totals over 16 times the net value of the entire planet. If this financial debt problem had a cure, then ask yourself why so many corporate heads are building homes overseas? Why did George Bush build a 100,000 acre ranch in Paraguay? Why is NORTHCOM, a combat organization, engaging in continuing, nonstop urban riot control training? Why did FEMA and DHS schedule 10 disaster drills between September 25th and November 13th? Are we to believe that all of these factors are unrelated? It is looking more and more like the bail-out money, which was no more than the private theft of public money, is actually doing what the name implies, it is bailing out corporate executives. America is being forced to fund the getaway gifts for those that have stolen so much from the American people?"

The only way the US can default on its debt is that it does not uses a part of its monthly revenue to pay the credit card bill. If the GOP is caving in, I suppose they assume Obama (and the more moderates of the GOP) are stupid enough to willfully do that and then blame the GOP for the default when it fact it was a conscious decision.

Obviously, the sheep would believe them.

"The only way the US can default on its debt is that it does not uses a part of its monthly revenue to pay the credit card bill."

Yep, that's exactly what I've continuously been pointing out, $250 billion in revenue every month and a $30 billion dollar debt interest payment.  The only path to default would be due to a conscious CHOICE, not an inability to pay.  If they say, "we're not set up to prioritize funding," I say BULLSHIT just like David Stockman did when some ignorant financial channel talking head said he was told they couldn't by a government source.  If true, which I doubt, they could set it up with a few phone calls.  It's all a bullshit, empty threat they don't want to lose the ability to use.  So stop f'ing buying into it just as you correctly don't buy into most of their bullshit!

The deal would also deliver back pay to furloughed federal workers, require income verification for people seeking health-insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.”

Aside from the Gov “Workers” having had a nice 2-week vacation, this Bill has now injected a Trojan Horse no one (except the Few) is aware of:  This means that all Service Providers will demand that you provide them with your IRS Income Tax filing.

The outcomes of this are:  (1) they not only get to see all your Global Income, but also all your Global Assets (thanks to FICA!); (2) Unlike those who do not pay into the System (too poor, or too many tax loopholes), you will have to use your global assets (sell them, then get a “Reverse mortgage”*), before you get Fed Aid.  That’s because in the US, Aid is and will remain “Asset-based”, not “Income-based”.  This means that – unlike in other Western countries – you will be systematically stripped of all your worldly assets, before your fellow Contributors pay your bills.  The “Bring out the Gimp” scene comes to mind.

Alternatives = Doors #1,2,3: (1) Go Galt, (2) Join the booming Health Care Tourism crowd, or (3) Leave the US, move to a more civilized country.

Moral: Not only does the idle 1% Boehner you up your a$$(ets), but so do your fellow-Contributors (with their Stockholm Syndrome mindset).

* A "Reverse Mortgage" (flogged by well-paid shills like Henry Winkler and Robert Wagner) is the new “Cash for Gold”.  Except that your house may have appreciated more than your gold.

For some, Doomsday Fatigue will set in.  Time to stop being addicted to anger.  Time to stop listening Purveyors of Permanent Anger & Doom ("Anger Jocks").

Good time to plant a tree, and climb a mountain to get above the Fog of Doom.

p.s.  Those who are determined to stay addicted to Anger & Doom can/will junk me accordingly.  I care naught.  I live on more than Up Arrows, sunshine.

VIDEO: Dave Ramsey lays out the facts of Obamacare for both Democrats and Republicans

"You’re not exempt from math if you’re a Republican, and you’re not exempt from math if you’re a Democrat."

This video is an excellent resource for anybody who’s struggling to understand what Obamacare means for their pocket book.  Dave lays it out as only Dave can.

Here’s the video:

Kudos to Dave Ramsey for not falling into the “loudest voice in the room wins” trap.  I highly encourage our readers to share this with their friends and family.  Share it on Facebook on Twitter and help spread the facts about the Affordable Care Act.

Can't you find a video describing in great detail why the US pays half to two-thirds more per person for healthcare than any other advanced nation in the world? That would be something to share with family and friends. The massive amount of looting from the middle class with regards to health care expenditures needs to be addressed.

Look, the Affordable Care Act is a colossal piece of shit, but it's the republican's plan. A market approach. It's quite lame that republicans are know wetting themselves about the ACA implementation. Obama codified into law the very device they wanted. Don't bitch about now.

so what about this "deal"?

it's a joke, more bad theater, empty of any substance or value in any sense.

CONgress accomplished nothing today except to pass off yet another meaningless empty symbolic gesture as serious legislation. something they have gotten very, very good at doing over the years.

in a sense, by passing this 11th hour deal, they are further proving their own irrelevance outside of the beltway, because for the rest of us who unfortunately have to exist out hear in the real world, this latest great bipartisan compromise is completely and totally inconsequential.

there is only a very short list of things that our central government does that effects us all regularly and those are destroying our civil liberties, destroying our economic independence, filling body bags the world over and thieving as much treasure from us in as many ways as they can dream up.

and that would have continued had no deal been reached, it will still continue now that one has.

so what hope for a brighter future came out of today's pointless political exercise?

none.

what change was seen in the way the PTB's in DC represent "we the people"?

well, I couldn't help but note we didn't even rate a mention.

Get ready; you, the working stiff taxpayer with a bank account, are the hit in this Obamacare sting operation.

Don’t want to pay the government for your health care? Tough. Tell it to the IRS, where premiums aren’t all you pay and hospitals will be asking for your full deductibles – even if they're $11,000 for many - up front.

No problem; the IRS will take it from your bank account. That’s why they call it individual mandate. It’s mandatory. You will obey; you will pay.

Reports Lonely Conservative today: “Democrats don’t really like talking about the high deductibles in most Obamacare insurance plans. That’s how they keep premiums from skyrocketing. But it isn’t going to take people long to figure it out, as more and more medical providers are demanding payment of deductibles up front before they will begin treatment.

Hospitals say they need to charge patients prior to treatment because Americans are increasingly on the hook for more of their own medical costs. And once care is provided, it’s often difficult for hospitals to collect.”

In other words, you are the patsy for the third world Democrat voter base that doesn’t pay its bills. Too bad you don’t have a voice…in "your" government.

Totally expected. The shutdown was window dressing and cover for the Rs, who now will say "I tried to defund ACA, but the US has to be able to pay its bills." ALL A FARCE. They all knew that they were going to RAM ACA up our ass, because they all want it because it increases govt. power and control. When Roberts said that it is up to we the people thru congress to get rid of it, this is what the criminals came up with to keep the unconstitutional piece of shit.

But then there is no law, and no constitution, since the executor of the laws, born a British subject, of a British subject father, is not an eligible natural born Citizen. As such Obama is a domestic enemy of the United States. The commander of our military is not eligible. Think about that. All of Congress knows this. ALL of Congress is committing treason. Bring on the guillotines.

Yet "conservatives", who also know nothing about the Constitution, will not acknowledge the FACT that Obama is not eligible, and not a natural born Citizen because it is "nit picky", "not fair", or "not a winning argument". The power to REMOVE the domestic enemy Usurper is directly before your eyes (See the 25 Amendment,, and 3 US Code 19) and upon that removal ALL of this ACA legislation is null and void. What morons. You did it to yourselves.
