Obama Issues Executive Order To Prepare For Climate War

Tyler Durden's picture

Two months ago we reported that Obama had officially declared war on the weather, after it was reported that he was ready to use "administrative authority" to fight climate change. While at the time it was not quite clear just what authority he had to unleash centrally-planned weather, today we finally got a glimpse of how Obama's biggest war yet would look like.

As Washington Times reports, "President Obama issued an executive order Friday directing a government-wide effort to boost preparation in states and local communities for the impact of global warming. The action orders federal agencies to work with states to build “resilience” against major storms and other weather extremes. For example, the president’s order directs that infrastructure projects like bridges and flood control take into consideration climate conditions of the future, which might require building structures larger or stronger — and likely at a higher price tag."

In other words, following the epic Syrian fiasco, whose primary intention was to boost the US budget deficit as a result of a localized war, and allow Bernanke more debt issues to monetize, Obama now has decided to unleash a very expensive, and very much debt-funded war against the greatest enemy of all: the weather.

The article goes on:

“The impacts of climate change — including an increase in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, more heavy downpours, an increase in wildfires, more severe droughts, permafrost thawing, ocean acidification and sea-level rise — are already affecting communities, natural resources, ecosystems, economies and public health across the nation,” the presidential order said. “The federal government must build on recent progress and pursue new strategies to improve the nation’s preparedness and resilience.”

There’s no estimate of how much the additional planning will cost. Natural disasters including Superstorm Sandy cost the U.S. economy more than $100 billion in 2012, according to the administration.

Well, the more the merrier. Since interest costs in the New Normal are not an issue as long as the Marriner Eccles politburo is around, debt is wealth, and the more debt the US incurs to comply with Obama's latest executive order, the better.

Sure enough, as a result of this idiotic development, it is best to have very lofty aspirations, of the variety that come in 9 or more digits: after all, since nobody can quantify "climate change" may as well unleash the most ridiculous numbers conceivable.

The White House is also setting up a task force of state and local leaders to offer advice to the federal government, with several Democratic governors having agreed to serve and at least one Republican governor, from the U.S. territory of Guam.

Mr. Obama has a goal of reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent by 2020, and the Environmental Protection Agency is working on rules that would impose tougher regulations on coal-burning power plants. But much of the president’s climate-change agenda has stalled in Congress, and the administration says the new order recognizes that global greenhouse gas emissions are still rising, making further damage from global warming inevitable.

Actually no:

But since when did an autocrat, whose only concern is pandering to his populist, Obamaphone-equipped electorate, while spying on the middle class and doing the bidding of Wall Street, care about the facts?

Finally:

“The question is not whether we need to act,” Mr. Obama said at the time. “The question is whether we will have the courage to act before it’s too late.”

Damn right: however the "action in question has nothing to do with spending trillions to prepare for a crisis that may come long after the Federal Reserve has destroyed western civilization, but rather to overthrow a corrupt, oligarchic, self-serving system, in which the middle-class, once the backbone of a great nation, is being forced into extinction by its "elected" representatives through the most subversive form of wealth transfer in the Fed's 100 years of existence.

You must have been in the same class with Reagan.

This is an often repeated urban myth; it come in many forms.

Here's some relevant questions from "Ask a volcanologist"
http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/ask_a.html

Someone recently told me that volcanoes put out more pollution than cars and factories. Is that true?
"No . . . that is a holdover from a quote by Ronald Regan who claimed that Mount St. Helens was adding more atmospheric pollutants than human activities add. The scientific truth is that the activities of people produce more than a hundred more times the pollutants than volcanoes."
Sincerely,
John Dvorak
http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/frequent_q…

Here's what Reagan said:
"I have flown twice over Mount St. Helens. I'm not a scientist and I don't know the figures, but I have a suspicion that one little mountain out there, in these last several months, has probably released more sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere than has been released in the last ten years of automobile driving or things of that kind."
--Ronald Reagan, quoted in Time magazine, October 20, 1980. (According to scientists, Mount St. Helens emitted about 2,000 tons of sulfur dioxide per day at its peak activity, compared with 81,000 tons per day produced by cars.)

Here's another from Ask a Volcanologist:
When Volcanoes erupt and emit C02 into the atmosphere, what effect does this have on climate?
"The short answer is as follows: As a long-term average, volcanism produces about 5X10^11 kg of CO2 per year; that production, along with oceanic and terrestrial biomass cycling maintained a carbon dioxide reservoir in the atmosphere of about 2.2X10^15 kg. Current fossil fuel and land use practices now introduce about a (net) 17.6X10^12 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere and has resulted in a progressively increasing atmospheric reservoir of 2.69X10^15 kg of CO2. Hence, volcanism produces about 3% of the total CO2 with the other 97% coming from anthropogenic sources. For more detail, see Morse and Mackenzie, 1990, Geochemistry of Sedimentary Carbonates."
Sincerely,
Scott Rowland
http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/frequent_q…

How much CO2 did Mount St Helens' eruption in 1980 release into our atmosphere? Can you give me some idea of how much CO2 volcanoes add to the atmosphere generally?
http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/frequent_q…

Gases: Man versus the Volcanoes
http://volcano.und.edu/vwdocs/Gases/man.…

If you'd like a more formal treatment see:
Global carbon dioxide emission to the atmosphere by volcanoes. Williams, Stanley N.; Schaefer, Stephen J.; Calvache v., Marta Lucia; Lopez, Dina. 1992. Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, vol. 56, Issue 4, pp.1765-1770.

"Volcanic CO2 presently represents only 0.22% of anthropogenic emissions."

There is no such thing as the greenhouse effect, it has been disproven.

If CO2 was pollution you wouldn't drink soda, coffee, wine, or beer.

NASA has shown that CO2, even in concentrations above 6000ppm is not harmful to astronauts in confined chambers.

The atmosphere of the Earth is less able to absorb shortwave radiation from the Sun than thermal radiation coming from the surface. The effect of this disparity is that thermal radiation escaping to space comes mostly from the cold upper atmosphere, while the surface is maintained at a substantially warmer temperature. This is called the "atmospheric greenhouse effect", and without it the Earth's surface would be much colder.  [source]

Water vapour is the most dominant greenhouse gas. Water vapour is also the dominant positive feedback in our climate system and amplifies any warming caused by changes in atmospheric CO2. This positive feedback is why climate is so sensitive to CO2 warming. [source]

Although percentage is a convenient way to talk about the amount of gas in the atmosphere, it only tells how much is there relative to everything else; percentage doesn’t give an absolute amount.

For example, you have trouble breathing on top of Mount Everest even though the atmosphere still contains 21% oxygen just like at sea level. The percentage isn't important, you need a certain number of oxygen molecules with each breath, regardless of how much or little they are diluted by inert gases. At an altitude of 8000 m the whole atmosphere is diluted.

The total number of CO2 molecules above our heads in the atmosphere is more important than their percentage in the atmosphere. If the amount of inert nitrogen gas (N2) in theatmosphere were to be cut in half then the percentage of CO2 would jump (to about 600ppm; 0.06%) without a change in the absolute amount of CO2 and no substantial change in the energy balance of the Earth. Adding a huge number of energy-absorbing CO2 molecules to the atmosphere doesn’t change its percent number very much, only because it's being added to a vast inert N2 background.

We know the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased because we have measured it. We know the climate has warmed from current and historical data. The link between increasing greenhouse gases and increasing temperature is clear: just as ink makes water more colored, CO2 makes the atmosphere more absorbing. The extra CO2 in our atmosphere is trapping energy that would otherwise escape to space. The measured global warming matches closely with the amount of energy trapped from the greenhouse gases added to the atmosphere.

A doubling of the trace molecule CO2 from 280 ppm to 560 ppm is still a trace, but just like with arsenic, the difference between a small trace and a larger trace is fatal. [source]

Emissions will only go down if we extract GAZILLIONS more dollars from the dumb debt slaves and build GIANT FANS to create hot air trade barriers to keep out all that dirty Chinese smog. (It's a good thing they buried a regulation deep in the CFR requiring that all new Obozo wind turbines have a REVERSE switch).

Which is worse - a mildly polluting US factory or an unrestrained toxic waste dump that doubles as a factory in China?

I agree, but until in the last 70 years or so EOs were issued within the executive branch and carried, rightfully so, no weight of law. Now these tyrants issue them as if they carry the weight of law, which they do not. They are just dictatorial degrees that are Unconstitutional and, in my opinion, treasonous.

The best way for us to leave everybody else alone is for the rest of the world that has our currency to dump it simultaneously.

Why doesn't Obama do something useful with an executive order.?

I could think of 10 executive orders right off the bat.

1) Arrest anyone with over 100,000,000,000 dollars to their name, they had to commit some crime to get that rich.

2) Arrest all the bankers that made a dime during 2001~ 2009.

3) Arrest the Senate and Congress for leading us into this mess

4) Guilotines for all the people you just arrested.

5) Undo all laws written since 1912

6) Print Red Notes, Debt Free money and spend them into circulation instead of borrowing garbage paper from "the fed"

7) Sit back and watch as America becomes great again.

;)

Laws are useless unless they are reasonable and enforceable, otherwise they are a charade for control and discrimination, witness the war on marijuana and other mood altering substances.

Lets get rid of the pretexts for big government so they have no excuse to exist. Let them live on excise taxes as they did before the income tax.

Kudlow does a great takedown on Obamacare at CNBC.com:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101164217

"

Between the president's broken promises, the millions of policy cancellations, the continued website breakdowns and the unaffordable, unfair con game between the healthy young and the sicker old, this Obamacare monster is well on its way to collapsing of its own weight.

But here's the bigger point: All this is the inevitable result of massive central-planning exercises to control the economy. That's not freedom.

No amount of rescue legislation is going to change this. It's the elections of 2014 and 2016 that will allow citizens to reject this Soviet-style planning. But I'll reference my conservative colleagues in the media once again: Obamacare represents the greatest-ever expansion of the liberal entitlement-state dream. And you know what? That dream is crumbling and dissolving before our very eyes.

And that is freedom."

And, of course, 3rd...  The OldFarts leaching off of Medicare love entitlements.   Ask Kudlow if he's ready to eliminate Medicare?

Central planning never works. When you think you can idiot proof something the world builds a better idiot. The Black Nero, and the assholes who keep supporting this crap are proof of that. I learned this lesson a long time ago when I was in charge of doing inventory control and quality control procedures to go along with it. You can have the greatest system in place and all it takes is a few idiots to fuck it all up that can't follow simple rules. The systems are only as good as people interfacing them at the end of the day. Same with social contracts like the Constitution. They are only as good as counter parties adhering to them. Constitutions, guns and other inanimate objects are like fire they can sustain life, illuminate the dark or they can burn you to death it is all how the individual interacts with it that determines which way it goes. The problem is the fucking people not the paper, guns or intentions.

Wait at least a few days before you cover student loans and national debt again. Fight club can get exhausting.

This is getting ridiculous.  These liberals sound as insane as the religious fantatics.  Pat Robertson blamed hurricane Katrina on God and Obama blamed Hurricane Sandy on people.  The truth is neither one of them had any evidence to support their claims.  Obama's claims are anecdotal at best, but crazy at worst.  Obama should have studied a little history while he was at his expensive Ivy League school.  Hurricanes such as the one that hit Galveston in 1900 were brutal.  Horrible natural disasters have accurred long before humans were driving cars on a regular basis, but just because we have had natural disasters since the begnning of time doesn't mean that liberals won't blame every natural disaster on global warming.

If the sun goes into a prolonged quit period, we better be pumping out as much CO2 as we can, even though it wouldn't have any effect.

Goldman Sachs would love it though and drive heating oil and nat gas to $1 million per unit.

So what happens to a nuclear reactor when it gets entombed in a 2 mile high sheet of ice?

well for a while things will be okay, a concrete dome actually becomes stronger under compression, but every material has a breaking point.

at some point the pressure and weight of the ice will begin to crack the dome and compress it flat, but by this point the core will have melted down into the earth creating a nice hotpocket.

There will be a localized radioactive thermal hot spring that will provide a stream of hot lubricating water for the glacier to slide over.

But it really won't matter cause a two mile ice sheet will guarantee no local life in the radius.

Much like Antartica the interior where the glaciers are so thick is free from any life forms save bacteria, so too would our theoritical ice sheet be bereft of life.

The global economy will collapse because of the increasing price of oil so i do not concern myself with global warming - it will stop when the QE is stopped - chaos and endless Depression are a superb tonic for global warming
