Armored Gunman Loose In New Jersey Mall; Shots Fired, Injuries Reported - Live Stream

Tyler Durden's picture

Shots were fired Monday night at the 2.1 million square feet Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus, New Jersey, according to several reports. Local TV network PIX11 reports, "according to a police source:

  • the shooting began near the Nordstrom’s department store on the second level of the mall
  • At least eight shots have been fired;
  • The gunman is believed to be wearing body armor;
  • Stores are on lockdown;
  • Over 200 police units and SWAT team are on the scene;

Finally, several hours after it started, the situation ends with the suspected gunman allegedly shooting himself.

CNN Reports,

Eddie Kahmann, who works inside the mall, told CNN he heard 6-7 gunshots around 9:20 p.m. ET. "There was just people running like crazy so I quickly just closed my doors, ran to the back, turned off all the lights, music and everything, just to stay hidden," he said.

Kahmann spoke from inside the mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the New York City area.

Ally Kozic, another mall employee, said she saw "someone dressed in all black, carrying a large gun walk past our store."

NBC New York reports,

Witnesses told NBC 4 New York a man dressed in all black, including a black helmet, was carrying a rifle and started firing shots inside the mall.

It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was hit.

"He was fully armored head to toe, like he planned this. Like it's not like a random thing," said a male shopper who did not want to give his name.

Clarice Forbes, who works at the Talbots store, said the alleged gunman fired his rifle as he walked through the mall.

"When he walked past our store, he looked directly in the store and strolled past," she said. "It was very, very terrifying."

Forbes said the gunman continued to walk toward Nordstrom and "you could still hear the gunshots going off in the air."

"There were so many thought going through my head. I was so scared."

Amerikan's and their luv of guns - lets go back to the wild west era when men were men and they just walked around looking to shoot themselves in the foot. The rest of the world wonders where it ends for the U.S - between becoming an absolute police state of no freedoms and the complete obsession with being totally armed at all times = they either kill each other by police/gov't means or street shoot outs - time will tell.

No, better to be like the Mexicans where drug gangs terrorize local populations, or perhaps like the north Koreans, terrorized by its government. Or better yet, like the spineless Greeks and spaniards, who allow their countries to be raped and pillaged by the Money Men

If a 500 member armed drug gang tried to take over my city of 80,000 the weaponry in the hands of my fellow citizens would make short work of them. It wouldnt take long to end the problem.

You two are, I believe, talking at cross purposes. I think that most people's fears do not arise on account of the bad guys, per se, but arise rather on account of the pillorying they will suffer at the hands of government.

We arent as messy, unpredictable, and permissive of suffering (non interference with choice) as we used to be. Sadly.

The so-called Wild West had a gun violence rate that is far below that of the modern, 'gun-free' utopia of Chicago.  The famous shoot-out at the OK Corral had only 3 fatalities, and yet everyone knows about it today as if it were some sort of huge big deal - which it was in the Wild West.  Today shootings are much more common.  It ain't the guns, a child could buy as many guns as he could afford back then, no questions asked.

I have an old Sears catalog from around 1900 or so. There were about 30 pages dedicated to firearms of every type imaginable-- Revolvers, lever actions, bolt actions, and even a few semi-autos. All popularly priced and available for immediate delivery, to anyone anywhere in the US, no questions asked.

You hear this myth nonsense all the time and since there are no valid records of gun ownership or deaths due to firearms due to inconistent or nonexistant due to firearms you can't make a valid argument one way or the other.  You later statement is likely ridiculous but I would need to go back and check to see what the price of a pistol in the 1870s or 80s was vs average incomes.  I would be willing to bet even a used Colt would have been a least a month's salary for a common laborer/farmer if not more.

I know I will get a ton of red thumbs down but I actually believe in using actual historical documents and primary evidence to support historical statements.

200 cop car's? sounds more like a 'train exercise' at night.

Why in the fuck do they all have to respond, given that the metric is 1,000 citizens per cop, that mean's that 200,000 citizens at that instant are not protected, so every cop in area responds cuz a couple of rounds,

Sound's like a great way to distract the cops, or an TV OP,

But most likely just over reaction, like the KILLING of Miriam Carey a few weeks ago, ... just too many cops reacted, which tells us the cop's are walking in fear, and with happy trigger fingers, and most

Important there is no leadership, its every fucking cop doing as he pleases, this is crazy that every cop in a 10mile radius responds without authorization, ... it just shows that all the 'cops' in the USA have gone 100% solo, ...

Leadership fails at the top down, and today there is no head, ... all that is needed now is a failure to pay their salary, and they go 100% mad-max, ( as the looters )

Dude, a lot of PDs have one and only one tactic now.  Respond with such overwhelming force that nobody dare question them.  We had an excessive force case that went to trial in federal court here recently where there was a report of a drunk guy in his late 50s or early 60s who had a knife.  Roughly 50 officers, including SWAT and K9 showed up, and they used every form of non-lethal force on him that they could, even after he had passed out from all of the tazing.  We have pretty decent personal freedom in my state when compared to the state of the nation, so that NJ response does not surprise me one bit and nor does the Cleveland response.  Then again, the judge that presided over that case pretty much hates that local PD and only begrudgingly follows precedent when he has to and we have very strong gun rights.

There are two things that I am thankful for.

One...Most people are honest.

Two...The ones that are not honest are not smart enough to figure that out.

The News Media might as well report, "Thieves and Burglars...Most of your local Law Enforcement is concentrated at the Mall. It is time to go to work raping, pillaging, killing and assaulting. Have fun, fuck people up, and get some real scores. That way we can later sell the victims the idea that we need MOAR POLICE STATE.

But avoid the mall as traffic is snarled and  is not good for your business. Thank you and may the odds be with you."

Let's just hope the NJ cops are better shots than the ones in NYC. 200 cops opening fire in a crowded mall isn't going to have a good outcome.

Seriously, somebody forgot to barricade off a staging area. That traffic outside the mall is a nightmare.

Perhaps the guy just wanted to look the part when he showed up for the Midnight launch of Call of Duty.

He heard the XboxOne only plays Call of Duty at 720p so he was going to kill some Sony fanbois and stop by the Microsoft store to make some demands.

I guess this shooter had a problem with mall cops. In his bag will be a manifesto, "How I hate mall pigs."

If it's an AR-15 or any variant of it, then it's a false flag.

Call of duty. I've always been of the mind that .gov sponsors these military video games to prepare the youth.

The ads I've seen lately, I think it is Call of Duty, where they are in Vegas shooting down army helicopters and planes flying into skyscrapers, and the like, seem like bizarro world according to that hypothesis.  Perhaps they prove it wrong.

Just a strange observation, that the scene for these new military games is now at a city near you.

We know who his mother is, but she's dead. We're pretty sure she worked for the CIA. We're not sure who his father is--he's named after a half-Arab, half-black socialist alcoholic bigamist, but he's dead after he ran his car into a ditch. The other guy who might be his father was a card-carrying communist-- we do know, however, that this communist and homosexual had a meaningful influence on the young mans life as a teenager. We know he was raised in Indonesia as a Muslim by a third man. We know he smoked a ton of drugs in high school and college. We don't know where he spent a good chunk of his twenties, nor do we have any transcripts from any colleges he attended, and don't even have a single eyewitness account verifying that he even attended one of the colleges he says he attended. We know he has never worked in the private sector in any meaningful way. We know he passed the bar, but then had his law license revoked. We don't have a birth certificate or selective service registration form that appears even remotely legitimate. He says he is Christian, but was a member of a Christian church that did not require baptism, which is almost unheard of; and the pastor of that church was outspokenly racist and anti-American. We know he is married, but his children don't look much like him, and in his adopted hometown it is a badly kept secret that he is homosexual. We know that a major publishing house paid him millions of dollars to write two books, but we're not sure he wrote them, and some people think they were actually written by his longtime friend and associate, who happens to be a convicted terrorist.

There's more I'm sure, but I have to go throw up on my shoes now.

Come on. Can we get some perspective here or not?

Meanwhile, most countries have more crime every day in every major city, town and village.  Casual violence is commonplace in most of the world, but it seems that only violent crime in the U.S. sells newspapers, and web sites.

A key and understudied aspect of full spectrum operations is how to conduct these operations within American borders.  If we face a period of persistent global conflict as outlined in successive National Security Strategy documents, then Army officers are professionally obligated to consider the conduct of operations on U.S. soil.  Army capstone and operating concepts must provide guidance concerning how the Army will conduct the range of operations required to defend the republic at home.  In this paper, we posit a scenario in which a group of political reactionaries take over a strategically positioned town and have the tacit support of not only local law enforcement but also state government officials, right up to the governor.  [source]

My time's short today- but both pieces avoid the issue of the terrifyingly small number of people required (acting in an uncoordinated fashion) to bring the whole shit down. There are thousands of them of in the US, and if it looks like there's going to be a fan & shit festival, there are a whole a bunch of foreign party animals who might want in on the action. The critical national infrastructure inventories are a a good starting point on that aspect...

I just read both of the articles and nobody gets it. What a waste of time.

Gasoline will not be plentiful in a time of Civil Unrest. There will be no sustainable vigilante squads as there will be no Gasoline to run their Trucks.

If the SHTF the Oil Refineries will be the primary target. Nobody moves without Gasoline. Entire Armies will be paralyzed without Refined Oil Products.

Long Beach is a ghetto. Nobody with Money wants to live with an Oil Refinery in their backyard. Good luck getting the Fuel to run a sustained operation against an insurrection. It will not happen.

At Pearl Harbor it was known as Nagumo's biggest blunder that he did not take out the Oil Tank Farms.

These former soldiers might be good at Urban Warfare, at following orders, but they are not graduates out of War Colleges and they have no clue about STRATEGY. They are taught TACTICS but are clueless when it comes down to understanding the entire Battlespace.

(If they had a clue then...THEY WOULD HAVE CONSIDERED FUEL.)

Tactical Victories are fleeting. Strategic Victories are Long Lasting as they change an opponent's tactics.

That is the difference between the Officer and Enlisted Man. The Officer gets it while the enlisted just..."follow orders".

i agree it only takes a few to start a "party".  although, i hope it doesn't go down that way...in any case, you can count on the dept. of homeland security to have factored the second scenario into their war-gaming. but yes, both the smallwarsjournal and the westernrifleshooters scenarios have concerned me about what could happen as american society starts to breaks down. i would like to be proven wrong, but the socio-political climate is sowing the seeds of resentment and animosity towards not only government but between citizens.

As demand density accelerated in the last half of the 20th Century, we experienced an increased distancing of lifelines. This distancing also encourages a tendency toward specialization, concentration, and reduced diversity of sources. Specialization, concentration, and reduced diversity are common characteristics of fragile systems.

In the last thirty years, the distancing of many supply chains has become so extreme that the ability to reasonably balance supply and demand is only possible as a result of sophisticated methods of tracking and anticipating demand well-in-advance.

For most of human history supply has been pushed by suppliers toward where they hoped there was demand. Today, especially for food, pharma, and most consumables supply is pulled by digital demand signals. If the demand signals stop , so does supply. This has crucial implications for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. [source]

lot of research and journal articles into the topic of food supply vulnerabilities and mitigation approaches

it doesn't have to go the way of chaos and violence. i see a potential cure via a "back to the land" for suburban folks and/or "urban gardening" movement for the economically-depressed peoples (hopefully, "all the sides" will reach this conclusion voluntarily and find benevolent leaders that can help guide them to the task).

top tip: farm your own food if possible, locate yourself near agriculturally rich areas, and/or simply buy regionally-produced food.  we can vote with our wallets now against the globalization and over-concentration / waste inherent in the current food supply chain.

one last point:

modern united states is basically the european unionsteroids [TM].  i actually think a possible cure to the current decline of america is a complete re-design of the current federalist sytem and implementation of a modern constitution.  this can all be done non-violently.  but, why isn't the gop leading that debate in congress?  i thought they were anti big govt.?  america needs a real third party alternative.  the tea party is a joke and co-opted by big business, gop interests.  what's sad is most don't know it.  if only an alternative party can coalesce the practical lefties, pratical righties, and practical libertarians, etc. all under one roof.  the progressive, practical, anti-establishment party?  impossible is nothing

War makes far stranger bedfellows than politics, the actual thinkers at DoD (as opposed to the MoT thought herders at SWJ) at least understand the concept of a lose-lose situation. DHS on the other hand- wouldn't heed a No Smoking sign at an oil refinery. I think the war thing is overblown (by some of the people who have a real fetish for that sort of thing), but unfortunately a statistically significant possibility (5-15% depending on my thought clarity, which after about 38 straight hours of work is not ideal).

The urban gardening is interesting, completely absent the shit hitting the fan it makes sense, but it only works with electricity (or a massive reduction of useless crappers). Technology has allowed people to desocialize yet survive in unnatural and unsustainable high density clusters. A second century citizen (or serf) of Rome probably had more gardening and farming skill than 95% of the US population today, but that didn't prevent an urban apocalypse that took 1600 years to revert from. By the time London was comfortably over the 1M mark, there were thousands of people whose very existence was the night-soil hauling business (not to mention the solid waste removal and coal/wood delivery businesses).

I don't see the socialization organization and mobilization skills to effectively deal with those sorts logistical issues before cholera and typhoid start taking their toll, if the juice stops flowing. My recollection of 20th century American squatter houses and crack houses is that- as soon as the first person shits on the floor- there might as well a big fan in the room... perhaps the desperation of the craptastic economy has prepared people better over the intervening years (at least at the lower margins). On the bright side-- without electricity and truck deliveries it would actually take an American city a relatively long time to grow the Mount Trashmores that were so popular in Naples the last time the politicians actually admitted to financial crisis. However, if the electricity goes out, the fact that the best soil lies in the floodplain of water bodies will leave everyone eating shit sandwiches, because we know damn well the FSA isn't going to manually move their own crap and the ass that produced it far beyond the river and deposit it in properly dug latrines.

points well made.

if we want to survive a collapse scenario, then it should be pretty clear to anyone with a functioning brain to start taking responsibility for one's own security, food supply, water, shelter, energy, etc.  gradually wean dependence off "the system".  and ideally, cooperate with a community of like-minded folks instead of going it alone.

The new level of gun crime in America makes it certain that many more of us honest and law abiding citizens are going to arm ourselves in order to be able to draw down on these crazy motherfuckers who think they can kill at will. Time for them to meet armed oppositon the instant they pull a gun and open fire to kill innocent people.

But what do you expect, when the President spends Tuesday evenings reading his kill lists. Obama wages drone wars over more than seven independent nations and has said that his exceptional right to kill makes him a legal killer. Is it any wonder that nut jobs feel that they can mimic the president and kill at will.

It is now at a point where Americans need to be armed on the streets. Will this lead to some bad shoot outs? Probably. But people will no longer walk around unarmed and prey for American whack jobs at malls, schools, movie theaters. I smell a Muslim mass attack on Americans coming soon. Either a real one that terrorists plan and carry out, or a semi false flag, in which the security forces let an event happen. Like 9/11 where all the evidence was ignored and the Saudi Arabian terrorists were allowed to walk throug immigration even though some of their names were on a terrorist watch list. They were allowed to take flight training at US flight schools where they were trained to fly but not to land or take off. One was arrested by an FBI agent, who was denied the legal authority to search the terrorists computer. This is proof that the intelligence agencies let 9/11 happen, and we all see the results.

James Bamford wrote on Northwoods:

"Operation Northwoods, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war."

That was then. This is now. Same motive, method and aim: force Americans to comply with the fear and war machine by threatening them on their own streets. This is full on fascism by the gun, and any other weapon owned by the hidden hand of those who pull the strings of government, for their own private profit and power.

Abstract.

The Bitcoin cryptocurrency records its transactions in a pub- lic log called the blockchain. Its security rests critically on the distributed protocol that maintains the blockchain, run by participants called miners. Conventional wisdom asserts that the protocol is incentive-compatible and secure against colluding minority groups, i.e., it incentivizes miners to follow the protocol as prescribed. We show that the Bitcoin protocol is not incentive-compatible. We present an attack with which colluding miners obtain a revenue larger than their fair share. This attack can have signi cant consequences for Bitcoin: Rational miners will prefer to join the sel fish miners, and the colluding group will increase in size until it becomes a majority. At this point, the Bitcoin system ceases to be a decentralized currency. Selfi sh mining is feasible for any group size of colluding miners. We pro- pose a practical modi cation to the Bitcoin protocol that protects against sel sh mining pools that command less than 1/4 of the resources. This threshold is lower than the wrongly assumed 1/2 bound, but better than the current reality where a group of any size can compromise the system.
