Guess How Many North Carolinans Have Signed Up For Obamacare Via The Website?

Tyler Durden's picture

North Carolina’s largest insurer is having its share of problems with the Obamacare website. As CBS Charlotte reports, internal emails obtained by WNCN-TV show that Blue Cross Blue Shield show that only 1,000 people had filled out applications as of October 15th. But perhaps most stunningly...only one person was able to successfully use Healthcare.gov to enroll in the new exchange. What is worse, they note that even that single person has not paid, which means the enrollment is not complete.

It gets worse...

Blue Cross Blue Shield found the entire system is so filled with glitches that the company decided not to upload data because it was afraid false information might enter its computer system.

And the emails reveal a scammer was using the insurer’s name to try to obtain personal information.

A person was making phone calls claiming to be with the “National Health Care Registry,” and falsely claim it was taking over healthcare reform contracts from the Blue Cross.

BCBS spokesman Lew Borman told WNCN-TV the company is working with the government to solve these problems.

“We’re hopeful that the issues can be resolved quickly so the Exchange will work seamlessly for our customers,” he said.

The subsidy isn't a percentage, it is a set dollar amount based on income. I based it on a family of three.

Subsidy info:

Family of three making $20k or under, says to go on Medicaid. In other words, paid by taxpayers.

$30k you get a subsidy up to $5,150, makes bronze plan $1400, Gold $7300.

$40k max credit $3,812

$50k max credit $2,228

$60k max credit $600

$70k 0 credit

The subisidy page claims that your out of pocket maximum can't be more than $4,500 if you have a family of three making $30k. As sson as you go above $30k th emaximum shoots up to $12,700. This doesn't jive with the plans offered, so that is probably why the plans aren't being accepted at the hospitals.

So basically just limit your FAMILY income to $29,999 and even then you're still fucked.

Talk about welfare cliffs.  It's either 29,999 or you need to make $70,000 just to afford some level of healthcare and even that'll take most everything you make out of you.

WHY WORK???

If even just one person gets free healthcare, isn't it worth it?

Baltimore City Schools = $17,000 per pupil per nine months.

Thank God that decrepit, independent, county-level city has it's borders permanantly fixed and can't expand to engulf what decent areas are left around it.

For the Children....hahahahahaha.

Listen guys, Obama is our president. And you are to respect our president at all times. Do you understand?

Besides, he already apologized. What more do you want??

P.S. Obamacare is the law. That's right: the LAW. And as such, you are to obey it. Do I make myself clear? Good...

Oh man on the negs.  Sometimes you just have to type "/Sarc Off/" to get your point across.  Indeed this is the mentality that we're coming to.  MSNBC has already made clear that any criticism of Obama is racist and that all laws, regardless of their intent or actual outcomes, are to be obeyed unquestioningly.

Speaking of which: has anyone seen MDB lately? I visited "The Accredited Times" site the other day but it seems his roll has slowed as of late.

even that single person has not paid

Arrest the bastard and throw him in debtors prison. He'll get better health care in there and it won't cost him a dime.

4 signed up in Deleware and only 1 in NC.  Both states voted for obummer yet they don't buy his b.s.  There is very little conviction left in this country other than "money for nothing and chicks for free"!  It would appear most people actually liked their healthcare insurance - I guess the sheeple actually believed the lie about "keeping your doctor and insurance" and thought they were helping someone else out.  I bet when the bill comes due there will be the same number of people willing to pay the tab (just think alligator arms uncle warren buffett).  This country isn't going to become the liberal's greatest socialist/communist paradise, this is going to become the biggest apathetic blob ever.  But someday, some fool in another part of the world will overreach and wake the giant.  History doesn't repeat but it rhymes.

Any count of how many North Carolinans have lost their health insurance due to Obamacare  so far?

All of a sudden my computer has started slowing down drastically when I log in to ZH? Anyone else having the same problem?

Source: Reading various articles and comments on the internet.  Special recognition to Miffed ;-)

I am currently looking into to arguments that Americas healthcare is not substandard to the rest of the world.  Our slightly higher mortality rates may be due to gang violence casualties.  And Americans pay more for healthcare because a lot of ground breaking research is done in the US which is sold to US citizens at a higher price to recoup the R&D costs.

This is my attempt to define the healthcare problem.  As my engineering friend says, "If you can't find a solution its probably because you haven't defined the problem clearly enough."

10,000 baby boomers are retiring a day.  As the boomers move through the healthcare system they will bankrupt it.   Nothing against the greatest generation, its just factual information.  Putting 30 million new people in the healthcare system is also going to break the system. There are three ways to pay for this.

 1) Transfer payments:

A) Men paying premiums for maternity care,  young paying for old, the healthy paying for the sick.

B) Expansion of medicade and subsidies for low income.

2) Make healthcare cheaper:

A) by making people healthier:  mandatory weight loss, possesion of liquid infused with glucose is a crime, penalties for smoking ect.

B) reduce doctors salaries:   For now Canada and USA have comparable average compensation.  Canada has had a problem retaining doctors ( anecdotally the better doctors come to the US).   Canadian pay rates may go down once competition across the border is squelched.  Physicians Assistants and Nurse Practitioners will take the place of General Practitioners.  Fewer life saving machines will be purchased.  The US has a much better ratio of MRIs to patients than does the UK or Canada.

C) no one will have any medical privacy because everything will be computerized to save costs.

3) Rationing of healthcare will take place.  The IPAB, Independent Payment Advisory Board, will be rationing healthcare.  Congress will not have the the ability to regulate it or abolish it.  The IPAB board members are not elected by the people and are their for not accountable to the public.  The IPAB's recommendations will become law automatically unless the representatives veto their recommendations.  This is a very cleaver way of transferring responsibility away from the politicians onto a third party.  Politicians can correctly claim that they did not sponsor laws that become unpopular.   Think: the FED of healthcare.

A)  Wait times will increase.  A patient who is terminal and is told to wait a month is identical to a patient who does not have healthcare.  Treatment will be less cutting edge.

B) Some patients will be told that they have live a full life and that unfortunately their medical care isn't covered.

C) Concierge care will potentially be outlawed under the premise that it undermines the public system.  For a time concierge medicine was outlawed in Canada.  People will seek excellent healthcare across borders.  For example in 2003 the Premier of New Foundland and Labrador  Danny Williams had his cardiac surgery done in Florida rather than under the Canadian socialist healthcare system.  He chose the cutting edge procedure where they access the heart axially rather than breaking ribs.

The US healthcare system is the best in the world.  The US medicine innovates constantly.  But, we charge US citizens more for that healthcare innovation.  US citizens subsidize cutting edge research for the rest of the world. If the politicians disincentivise our brilliant medical staff everyone will be worse off.  (Actually China is more innovative on the genetics side and in 2014 they may stop selling prisoners organs.)

People of America you are being robbed.  Please do not enroll in the ACA.  You will make maintenance healthcare affordable for everyone.  While if you become seriously ill you will wait for care.  You will receive less than cutting edge care even if you can pay for it.  You will have beuracrats deciding your healthcare and not your doctor.  You will pay for this care in taxes your whole life so that you can never relocate out of the country without losing your investment in the system.

Their are other ways to make healthcare cheaper.  Allow insurances to cross state lines.  Allow drugs to be bought online with a Dr's script form overseas.  This is an engineering problem, their is an engineering answer.  If it is made a political problem then it can only get worse because of grift.
