Obama's "Success Story" Woman Repriced Out Of Obamacare

Meet Jessica Sanford. Upon the rollout of Obamacare she was 1 of maybe 5 people in the entire nation who was able to access the website and actually sign up through one of the state exchanges. In her case, it was the Washington exchange.
She was so thrilled about her purchase that she wrote a letter to President Barrack Obama expressing her undying gratitude.
Since her letter was quite possibly the only positive letter the Administration received, the President proudly read it aloud during his Obamacare speech on October 21st.
The only problem is that a few days later she was repriced out of Obamacare. So she’s now uninsured again…

Having known a few people who died for lack of insurance, I am pretty strong advocate for universal care. As a theory. I've not seen a decent way to implement it. I am pretty sure this whole thing is about the worst way it could have been done though. I have self insured for 10+ years. I hate my insurance company but they have done what hey are supposed to do for the most part. No reason in the world I should have be fucking with it now.
Noting that you have known a few people that have died for lack of insurance,,,we probably know more people with insurance that has paid for the chemo that caused them to die. Maybe no insurance can actually be better than we might think.

Once they milked my father's insurance for all they could get, they delivered the coup-de-gras of a lethal chemo injection and he was dead in six weeks. 5 grand a dose and the killer was 10 grand. Total bill 400 grand.
chemo is some murky waters and honestly I do not know who to trust, I know a lot of whose not to trust, but both sides of the dfebate are on flimsy ground far as I am concerned, which is to say if I were advised to do chemo I would have a hell of a time with that decision and hope to god I never have to make it.
I will say this, the people I know who chose chemo are still alive, most of them anyway. The people who went au naturel are dead. I don't put much into that, except to say it is complicated.

The US is still a center-right (NOT progrsssive) country. If anything, BO is the best thing to happen to US politics in a century... he's a one-man libertarian hatchery. Sure, die-hard progressives will linger for years, esp. in academia. But in real political terms, the country is trending hard toward libertarian (fiscal conservative/social liberal) ideals. The internet is an inherently libertarian environment... and we now have generations of kids being raised on the internet - with internet rules & ideals. Ever wonder how the guy in that nice car next to you can afford it. $300 to $400 per month extra disposable income is the difference. $4 to $5000 per year is all it takes to move up out of your Corolla into a BMW. You knew that when you bought your Corolla but that's just the way it was. Now what happens to the economy when the man with the $50,000 car when he's reduced to a Corolla because of Obamacare and you are reduced to a 5 year old Hyundai?
In other words, even if people had an extra $500/month for insurance premiums (which they do not), that would be $500/month coming out of a new car payment, Walmart, the mall, the bank, the 401k, etc. You know, the economy.

1. Put millions more relatively higher risk patients onto Insurance
2. "Young Invincibles" will continue to not have health care and will not help balance the cost of the incoming Medicaid horde
3. Overworked and understaffed Primary Care physicians (PCPs) won't be able to actually proactively manage any care
4. Most patients unable to get preventative meetings will continue to use the ER
5. Insurers, now on the hook for ER costs that used to be "bad debt" on the hospital books, will have to raise prices to cover it. Deductibles will continue to skyrocket
6. Middleclass will need to decide to decline insurance and pay the penalty or take the cheapest plan as a "catastrophic" coverage. If they end up going for something serious they will be unable to pay the deductible and the insurance companies will again have to raise rates
7. Insurance companies being pressured to provide "affordable" insurance will start to seriously limit their networks to the most needy PCPs and hospitals - high quality and high costs hospitals and practices will either opt out themselves or be pulled from the network
8. Marriage rates will continue to decline as it makes more sense for dad to take a chance on not participating and showing mom and the kids needing welfare.
9. Black market will rise again to fill voids
10. Experiment will need serious overhaul by 2020 in Congress

My wife and I have been paying ~$160 a month for just the two of us for insurance through her employer. The coverage was kick ass and we never had a thing to worry about even though we didn't often use it. Now we're expecting a baby and her employer moved up their rates... it's nothing huge in and of itself just an $16 increase, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things... however, now her employer added a stipulation that company spouses (namely, me) have to prove they cannot access employer sponsored insurance otherwise we would have to pay an additional $100 a month surcharge. Sooo... our bill went up to $276 a month. Insurance through my employer skyrocketed last year AND this year (which is why I'm not using them in the first place) and the coverage is absolute shit (relative to the money paid). We actually CAN afford $276 but I'm 33 years old and mostly healthy with no chronic conditions. I don't WANT to spend $276 a month on freaking insurance.
So for the first time in my adult life I have a choice and I choose not to be insured. I have been uninsured before but it wasn't by choice. This Obamacare is fucking ironic as hell no?
