US Challenges China, Flies B-52 Bombers Over New Air Defense Zone

Tyler Durden's picture

One of the notable developments in the neverending China-Japan territorial sovereignty dispute over various rock formations (and potential massive natural resources located beneath them) in the East China Sea, has been China's launch of an "air defense zone" over said disputed islands. As AP reported previously, Beijing on Saturday issued a map of the zone — which includes a cluster of islands controlled by Japan but also claimed by China — and a set of rules that say all aircraft entering the area must notify Chinese authorities and are subject to emergency military measures if they do not identify themselves or obey Beijing's orders. Various Japanese airlines responded in a confused manner overnight, with neither JAL nor ANA sure whether or not to comply with China's new demand which is merely the latest territorial escalation.

Yet the declaration seems to have flopped as a foreign policy gambit. Analysts say Beijing may have miscalculated the forcefulness and speed with which its neighbors rejected its demands. "Washington, which has hundreds of military aircraft based in the region, says it has zero intention of complying. Japan likewise has called the zone invalid, unenforceable and dangerous, while Taiwan and South Korea, both close to the U.S., also rejected it."

To put an end to any debate of how the US really feels about China imposing what it believes is its own territoria sovereignty, moments ago the WSJ reported that, in a direct challenge to China, or perhaps provocation, "a pair of American B-52 bombers flew over a disputed island chain in the East China Sea without informing Beijing, U.S. officials said Tuesday, in a direct challenge to China and its establishment of an expanded air defense zone.

The planes flew out of Guam and entered the new Chinese Air Defense Identification Zone at about 7 p.m. Washington time Monday, according to a U.S. official.

Defense officials earlier had promised that the U.S. would challenge the zone and would not comply with Chinese requirements to file a flight plan, radio frequency or transponder information.

The flight of the B-52s, based at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam, were part of a long planned exercise called Coral Lightening. The bombers were not armed and were not accompanied by escort planes.

While the probability of a direct Chinese retaliation against the US is slim to none, it is quite possible that the Chinese will once again redirect their nationalist anger toward Japan, in a repeat of what happened a year ago when the Japanese government escalated the Senkaku Island confrontation, leading to a purge of Japanese business interests (and citizens) from the mainland, and a collapse of all Japanese exports to China. And since one of Abenomics key "arrows" is boosting exports, the last thing the economy, which already hangs by a thread, needs is another economic embargo by one of its largest trading partners. We will find out if China reacts in such a fashion shortly.

When they are flying around the globe to drop ordinance it's limited to internal carry only. The thing isn't very cheap to fly when it's 'not' loaded, and extra drag on the airframe and added weight is not helping it get around the globe.

When it's merely a short hop from one shitstain to another it's hard points and belly carriage as they are flying in air support roles. Entirely different mission than, "I will fly over here and make sure you see me."

There's a rotating carriage in the updated B-52's for cruise missiles. The ones that carry JDAM's are a different story, but I doubt they will be dropping those anytime soon in mainland China. So the only thing they would be carrying is ALCM using the carriage.

Go ahead, ask me how I know about them :-P

Is Russia the real enemy?...Not Iran or China.

Because broadly speaking, Detente between Iran and the USA is potentially a “Game Changer”.

It certainly is a “Democratic” Party Platform choice vs a “Republican” Party one.

With this new Detente, Iranian Oil should begin to flow outwards bringing cheaper Oil prices.

If Israel and Saudi Arabia are concerned about Iran’s Nuclear, then they can blow it up, its not America’s responsibility.

Yeah, the yanks will bomb China and accidentally hit the factory where their uniforms are made.  After that the US soldiers will have to fight naked.  As the war progresses, the US starts out quite successful, but then start suffering as they can no longer purchase tools or parts for their vehicles.  Eventually they say, "Fuckit" and outsource the fighting to a Chinese mercenary group that promise to do the job faster and cheaper.

China is a false threat.  All their actions are to focus anger from their own ineptitude and internal failings toward "The Threat".

Can China call in its loans?  No.  China is held hostage with an economic gun to its own head...if they lose the markets they export to either by further world economic depressions or if they were to face stiff tariffs on their products from the west then it is GAME OVER for them.  The inner party is not that stupid.  They know this.

So why the belligerance now?  China's populace is waking up to the fact that their government is a can of shit masquerading as a Thanksgiving Dinner (or whatever is the Chinese equivalent).  Environmental toxins, heavy metals, birth defects , cancer rates...hell, rice tainted with Chromium 6!...my goodness, what a cesspool their fascist drive to be number one has created for their own people..

And now that people in that horrible country have some money and some time to stick their heads up and look around they are seeing their situation for what is is.  A total cluster fuck.

What we are seeing here is just China playing a dangerous gambit to focus the population on external threats to avoid internal revolution.

Re "... if they lose the markets they export to ..." :

In one sense, I understand that argument, in another sense, I don't.  It is the triumph of greed and stupidity that makes that argument work.  "Oh dear me, I haven't got a bludger with whom I can swap fake monopoly money for real goods and services.  I'm gonna go broke!!!"  "I haven't got an unemployed bludger in my house writing out IOUs for all the money I earn!  How ever will I survive?"

Who gives a f?  All China really needs is resources, raw materials.  Why on earth do they need rich consumers?  Because they're too stupid to give their own people pay rises so that they can afford to consume what they produce?  Because 1.3 billion people isn't a big enough market?

When you look at the flow of money, sure, losing your "trading partners" might be a problem.  (Note my ignorance here.  Does China import any raw materials from the US?  How much?)  But if you take the imaginary fiat out of the equation, China only needs to trade in order to obtain raw materials.  After they offset that, they can produce as much as they want and keep the production internal.  Chinese people get to keep the fruits of their labour - they get rich.  The US of the '50s?  While we're on the subject, how is Chinese business doing in Africa these days?  What kind of deals are materializing over there?

Tue, 11/26/2013 - 14:29 | 4191135 PT
PT's picture

What do the Chinese buy with their excess US dollars?  US land?  US "investments"?  US companies?  I guess they'll keep exporting to the US so they can continue to buy US soil.  Oh yeah, they keep doing those deals where they can by-pass using US dollars.  Better keep track of that too.

Tue, 11/26/2013 - 14:34 | 4191157 novictim

PT, the situation of China is precarious.  The are already losing jobs to Vietnam and others.  Their margins are so tight they have no room to maneuver out of this GAME so they are forced to play on.

And your point about them pullin back exports to feed internal consumerism is a interesting one.  Have you heard of the Crisis of Capitalism?  The consumer who is also the worker can NEVER be paid enough to maintain a balance of production-to-consumption in the long run.  This is at the heart of the entire world economic collapse and only profligate borrowing is keeping the wheels turning right now...the end is near!

israeli security firm Magna BSP landed a security contract at Fukushima Daiichi shortly after Japan offered to enrich uranium for Iran. Soon after Magna BSP arrived, Symantec reported that the Stuxnet virus had infiltrated thousands of computers in Japan..
Stuxnet works by disrupting industrial hydraulics, the pipes and valves that drove Fukushima's cooling systems. Stuxnet runs amok while sending normal readings to the engineers at their control stations. Israel is documented to have used this virus to damage centrifuges at nuclear facilities in Iran.
The cooling systems at Fukushima were controlled by Siemens software, which the Stuxnet virus was designed specifically to attack.
Stuxnet can be administrated via the kind of data link that Magna BSP installed before scramming back to Israel just prior to the disaster.
Stuxnet could explain why Fukushima's generators failed. It could also explain why the valves in the passive cooling systems got shut. It could explain why engineers were still getting containment pressure readings from Reactor 3, even though the containment was no longer there...

Hi Tony,

Thanks interesting:

http://www.magnabsp.com/212286/about

Magna developed a unique system based on 3D cameras and sophisticated algorithm promises over 99% detection rate and only 1 to 24 hour false alarm rate, to avoid these common incidents

Magna uses the same principle as a human body – two eyes and a brain.

Among the system’s abilities are: distinction between people and animals, pre-alerts by suspicious movements, an automatically learning system, high filtering ability and more.

Magna system is also cost effective in terms of power supply, systems integration, equipment and maintenance.

The technology is patent saved and well known in sensitive sites as nuclear plans, airports, borders etc., around the world and can integrate with other systems.

I feel certain they are working with Saudi intelligence to carry out a false flag in America. Something to help kick off the was against Iran and to finish the job of crushing Syria. Israel has never considered any American life as anything of value, only in as far as that life can serve Israel, Our money, our weapons and our troops are the force behind a tiny crap nation's ability to be a major nuclear weapons power. Hundreds of warheads targeted for maximum death from Northern Europe to Iran. One might ask, why so many warheads? Whose cities are targeted?  ANd the US congress tells me, that I owe Israel my money and loyalty, otherwise I am a traitor and terrorist.

How again does flying massive slow moving 50 year old easy to shoot down technology loaded with nothing but fuel threaten the Chicoms again?

If we really wanted to threaten the Chicoms we would dump our Socialist Solar agenda and jump on the nat gas bandwagon.

I'd also impose huge tariffs on any imports to America from "gross polluter" and slave states like China.

Sorry guys, but it's all theater.

The central bank of Red China has accumulated over a trillion dollars of US Treasury securities; and possesses none of them.  The securities are actually possessed by the FR Bank of New York.  The weekly statistical release, H4.1 provides a table tracking such foreign owned US Treasury securities.

In other words, the FRBNY holds the power to simply erase or void every UST security owned by Red China.  If this were to happen, the Red Chinese central bank would see a trillion dollars of its assets go up in smoke overnight.  What do you think this would do to the Red Chinese banking system?  That’s right… poof!

You might ask, “Why would China allow itself to take on such paper with so little collateral?”

For one thing, they probably thot they had sufficient collateral when they were given (1999) the Panama Canal Zone; after all, that gave them control of 26% of America’s international trade.

Another factor is the ALLIANCE Chinese communists established among Mexican and Columbian drug cartels, Chinese Triads, the Chinese communist party and a few other international criminal gangs; and then there’s the factor of 35 Chinese crime bosses smuggled into the US thru Panama.  All this was revealed in testimony before a Congressional committee.  (http://redressone.wordpress.com/ana-pt-ii/)

For what purpose could they possibly want all this “collateral”?

Another question, “How could they do all this without full cooperation of the US government and the Federal Reserve?”  They couldn’t.

By possessing all US Treasury securities owned by Red China, the FRBNY (and its puppet masters) hold the power of death over the Chinese economy.

China won’t do anything unless it has been vetted thru the FRBNY.

What did the Chinese buy those securities with? yuan or USD? Does it matter? Fiat is fiat. I don't think the Chinese give a crap about US securities other than something to wave around. If the FRBNY suddenly made all that disappear that would equate to default. Thus they could do that to any holder of US securities....which no one would want to take the risk. The banksters control very little in China. China is acquiring things such as 90% of Ecaudorian oil etc.. To think some bank in NY controls much of anything in China is to not understand China.

B52s are slow targets and easy to take out. All the kleptocrats need is a reason to get the masses to agree to an all-out war so they can sit back and be entertained.

The real reason is from Ben Fulford "“A group of influential Asian banking families possesses large amounts of US government bonds, verified as genuine by the BIS, with a face value of many trillions of dollars. These bonds were issued in the 1930’s and 40’s in exchange for Asian gold evacuated to the US during those decades. They would like to cash the bonds..."  Top that one.

Top end realators in Southern California are in bliss! They can move overpriced and tacky giant mansions to the Chinese elites at top prices. Many are bought as an escape door to the west, should thing go south in China. Smart move, America is an open bordes nation, simply set foot on US soil and you are a protected American citizen, papers or not, you are a full citizen. Millions of liberals will fight for your rights. You have it made.

that is the supreme irony of this circular oligarchy logic : 1 trillion dollars of income, robbed by the chinese oligarch from its sheeple, all placed in RE in the WEST; like for the Ruskis or the Indonesians or the Qataris; aka Davos forever!

Which SOB of the new members of the NWO in third world would put his ILL GOTTEN gains in his own LOCAL bank???

No siree, it all ends up in Caymanista or Jersey type locations. This is why Boris of London or Bloomberg of NY proclaimed : We are land of the Oligarchs...Bitchezz!  And we will stay that way!

Neo feudality Oligarchs can hang their hubristic hats on two thousand years of history; to spit on Jefferson's dream of pursuit of happiness for the common citizen meme.

Enlightenment is but a pipe dream. Now its back to aristocratic reality with a vengeance!

I just think this goes too far. It is more than about money, gold, bonds or anything. All of that means nothing when we destroy the world for such things, and if that is what it is about, japan and the west should zero the game and toss the risk/ monopoly board upside down and let the pieces fly.
Screw your no fly zone China!

As others posted earlier on, the Chinese have made public their disgust with the US dollar. Calling it an official" USA Ponzi Scheme." They have done and are looking to do oil contracts outside the dollar. Have publicly announced no desire to further their US dollar foreign currency reserves. They are buying gold as fast as they can get it in stable market conditions.

Lets add up history. Iraq tried to trade outside the dollar system. Invaded!

Libya tried to trade outside the dollar system. Bombed and invaded.

Serbia attempted to operate inside the Russian currency and economic union. Bombed and stripped of terrirtory

Iran attempting to expand it's economic trade system outside the US dollar. Under constant threat by a system of Israeli lies. The result may even be an Israeli nuclear strike. Small but world shattering.

China, moving fast to escape the dollar system that allows the US to import their consumer economy from China at cheap prices while paying in ponzi scheme dollars. The US shifts it's Naval, Air and Marine forces back to the Western Pacific in an open threat to attack Chinese interests.

Well you figure it out. Not hard is it? A direct quote from the US state department. "Any threat to the dollar as world reserve currency is a direct national security threat." That was them, not me!

So, America is facing the biggest threat since Germany conquered western Europe and Japan smashed the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.

The Dollar is the lynch pin of America's great power status. This is beyond debate. Look at the scale and scope of dollar printing! Without the printing, our consumer economy AND our military sorces would collapse, as the world would demand a hard currency earned via a trade surplus. Like Iran, to buy things they want, they must first earn dollars. It is that simple. Who would not want to throw off that yoke!

China is not Iraq, and China has a friend in Russia who is under direct threat by a NATO that moves closer every day. Large NATO forces sit a two day drive  from Moscow itself. Look, the USA is playing the end game now. If China bolts the dollar, the US can not continue to threaten and lie to the world about their need for the US dollar to do all trade. We could see an epic war over the dollar, it has started already in Syria, is moving to Iran, is headed for Russia, and China knows they are on the hit list.

Two interpretations:

1. After Iran deal, Chicoms feel Obama is a pushover ('Paper Tiger', as they say, or 'Jimmy Carter' as we say). Perfect time to assert territorial demands.

2. Chicoms looking to curry favor with Obama. ("Look! A distraction!")
