Meanwhile In Socialist France...

Tyler Durden's picture

It would appear that in order to appease the masses - despite his recent small bump in popularity post-Affair - France's President Hollande has gone full Socialist-tard. Aside from promises to cut spending by EUR50 billion in the next 3 years (so less taxes?), Hollande has suggested...

  • FRANCE'S HOLLANDE SAYS FRANCE MUST PRODUCE "MORE AND BETTER"
  • HOLLANDE SAYS COMPANIES WILL IN RETURN BE GIVEN QUANTITATIVE TARGETS FOR HIRING, TRAINING
  • HOLLANDE SAYS PUBLIC SPENDING CUTS CAN BE MADE WHILE PRESERVING FRENCH SOCIAL MODEL

Channeling Stalin, he further calls for "more economic governance of the Euro-zone" and the creation of a Franco-German energy company and more tax-harmonization with the Germans. We are sure Merkel will be over-the-moon at that suggestion.

So hitch up to Germany.. (and if they won't then that's a victory for nationalism also)

  • *HOLLANDE CALLS FOR MORE ECONOMIC, SOCIAL COHESION WITH GERMANY
  • *HOLLANDE SAYS GOVT TO CREATE 50,000 JOBS FOR YOUTH IN 2014

It's just that easy...

So appease the peons with spending cuts..

  • *HOLLANDE REITERATES THAT SPENDING MUST BE CUT TO REDUCE TAXES

then slam with Stalin-esque central-planning and control...

  • *HOLLANDE CALLS FOR MORE ECONOMIC GOVERNANCE OF EURO ZONE

But in the interests of keeping his base happy... he clarified...

  • *HOLLANDE SAYS HE HASN'T TURNED INTO A FREE MARKETEER

These Jay Leno's style jokes are a bit tired !

You forgot to call them "Cheeseeating surrender monkeys" btw.

In fact this ugly disdain and pitiful jokes come from the firm refusal of the French to join America in Irak, in 2003.

Since France refused to go to Iraq, American warmongers and neo-cons made French army look like cowards – as a punishment.

But History has proved the French were right.

You'd think Americans would remember the key role of the French navy at Chesapeake and the French soldiers (who represented more than half of the fighters) at Yorktown.

There, you see!?!?  It took American involvment going all the way back to the late 1700s for French victory.  Seems they lost A LOT before America and most often since, without American support that is.

But truly, the French are brutal people.  Look at the monarchies.  Look at Napolean.  Look at the bloodbath of a revolution.  Look at the overseas prisons they had.  Look at what they have done to brown people around the world, especially in Algeria.  Oh and the waiters are rude and they smell bad.

Oh hey look, a German soldier!  I bet you ducked didn't you.

Seriously though, where would we be without the French.  I sure would miss my french fries.  I'll stop now.  You know I'm not serious.  The French are a great people.  Great at taking offense to people whom they consider themselves superior.

Whatever man.  They are socialists.  Socialists suck in every nationality.

It may come from Hitler's and Goebble's propaganda after the French defeat of WW2. But all that stuff was complacently revivified by the neo-cons after 2003.

Don't forget that in 1939 and 1940 France was let alone (apart from only 8 British divisions, which succeeded to quickly re-embark at Dunkirk thanks to the sacrifice of the soldiers of the 1st French Army of the North ).

France was let alone facing a nazi-fanaticized country with a population of 80 million (vs. 40 million in France), a particularly well prepared war-industry, and an air superiority of 5 vs 1.

At the same time the “US ally” refused to sell planes on credit to France !

The landing in Normandy didn't occur before June of 1944 (5 five years later), after other landings in North Africa, Sicilia and Italia. And only because it was better to fight US enemy in Europe than in America, after the declaration of war by Germany and Italy.

And the US never faced mor than 15% of the Wehrmacht80% were in the East -  when France had to face alone 100% of Hitler's war machine in 1940.

Zoot allures, man, you're missing the point entirely. The reason that jokes about the French are so funny is because there will almost always be some French guy to overreact and start citing history. This is why the funniest jokes about France are those which use the most egregiously inaccurate stereotypes.

Don't take everything so seriously. Go get yourself some fried snails and a bottle of wine and watch a few Jerry Lewis movies and you'll feel much better.

For the cliche :

Fried snails : I am vegetarian , Jerry Lewis : I don't like too much - but this kind of jokes are not very nasty.

Your great recommendation is "Don't take everything so seriously"

I take the jokes for what there are:

When the French are treated of "Cheese-eating surrender MONKEYS", I say that it is in the exact same way that the nazis used to treat the Jews – denying them the right to be Human being, and treating them of "cowards" or "rats".

Anyone daring to compare JEWS or BLACK PEOPLE with MONKEYS, would immediately, and rightly, be denounced by everybody as a nasty racist (or some sort of nazi) ... But it seems that in this country, which in fact owe its independence to the French, this kind of ugly anti-french racism is pretty well tolerated …

May I add that :

The decision of Congress in 2003 to change all references to French Fries and French Toast on menus, and replace them with Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast was not an innocent joke but an hateful gesture.

The hate of the american warmongers - coming from the firm refusal of the French to join America in Irak in 2003 - remains still there, well alive under the appearance of "innocent jokes".

Non sequitur. Everyone knows that the US Congress is the biggest and most embarrassing American joke. Of course it was a hateful gesture. Why would you expect anything different to come out of Vichy DC?

The hate of the american warmongers - coming from the firm refusal of the French to join America in Irak in 2003 - remains still there, well alive under the appearance of "innocent jokes".

C'mon, war mongers don't have a sense of humor. Even a retard can see that their "jokes" are expressions of hate, and anyone with a brain knows that the French were correct about Iraq.

Let me repeat what I said above, with added emphasis:

This is why the funniest jokes about France are those which use the most egregiously inaccurate stereotypes.

It isn't even the jokes themselves which are funny. Most of them are recycled lameness. It is the response which is funny:

The reason that jokes about the French are so funny is because there will almost always be some French guy to overreact and start citing history.

I concede that my comments may have been a rather oblique way to express agreement with you.

Why on earth would such a great nation, facing a 2-1 disparity in manpower, allow itself to be so unprepared for war against a traditional rival like Germany?

Maybe... not... so... great....

To be fair, you did only have a handful of British divisions and airplanes and you held out almost two months.  Compare that to Poland who had no help at all and had to take on the Russians too.  They only held out a month and some days.  Viva la France!

France had to take on the Italians too. And the engaged strengh and losses were not on the same scale

Poland Invasion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland

Strength: Germany:60 divisions - Joined on 17 September by Soviet Union: 33 divisions

Casualties and losses : Poland : 66,000 dead - 133,700 wounded - Germany: 16,343 killed -  3,500 missing - 30,300 wounded - Soviet Union: 1,475 killed or missin - 2,383 wounded

Battle of France  -  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_France

Strengh: Germany: 141 divisions – Joined by 300,000 Italians

Casualties and losses: France: 360,000 dead or wounded - Germany: 157,621 casualties - 1,236-1,345 aircraft destroyed - 323-488 aircraft damaged - 795 tanks destroyed - Italy: 6,029 casualties

The 1940 campaign was the most intense of all the battles that will take place later on the Western Front:

the Germans suffered heavy losses in just 6 weeks - approximately 60,000 killed 111 000 injured and above 1250 planes were destroyed which will be greatly missed by the Luftwaffe during the battle of Britain.

In a month and a half of fighting the French army counted 84,000 dead in its ranks – and this is 4 times more than the losses of the American army in three months of battles in Normandy (21000).
It is the air superiority (over 1,000 Stuka bombers knocked out the troops defending
Sedan) and the intelligent use of the German panzers that broke all the defenses.

Since WW2, air superiority is always the winning key of battles …

Socialism always always creates a hierarchy of elites who enjoy every luxury trapping known to man while the plebs get what's left and get told "we are all equal."

Socialism is so often about nothing more than replacing the ruling elite with their own ruling elite. Stalin - for all his preaching of communism - lived in a huge private villa in the woods outside Moscow where he entertained. These children were helpless pawns between what Americans et al. imposed on Germany with the Treaty of Versailles and its encouragement to Russian Communists to overrun German cities following WWI. The use of photographs such as this now, without an explanation of what was happening in Germany in the 1920s, has become nothing more than Zionist propaganda.

John Toland writes about the front line German soldiers (including Adolph Hitler) returning to their home cities after WWI to find them overrun with Reds.

Toland: “In truth, Hitler was in a state of ferment and turmoil because of the epidemic of revolution. Never had he been so concerned for the state of his adopted country… ‘Involuntarily I saw thus my own development come to life again before my eyes.’ His simmering hatred of Jews had been activated by what he himself had witnessed on the streets of Munich.  Everywhere Jews were in power: first Eisner, then anarchists like Toller, and finally Russian Reds like Levine. In Berlin it has been Rosa Luxemburg; in Budapest Bela Kun, in Moscow Trotsky, Zinoviev and Kamenev. The conspiracy Hitler had previously suspected was turning into reality.”

And those children shown here were summarily taken care after WWII by FDR’s henceman, Henry Mortanthau.

Dr. Lawrence Meyer, executive secretary of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, after a tour of Germany at the time stated: “About 16,000,000 German refugees east of the Oder are being deported from their homes.  It has been estimated that already 10,000,000 have been driven out.  The human tragedy and suffering caused by this ’Volkswanderung’ are unparalleled in history…”

An authentic eye-witness reported…

“A large barge is slowly being towed across the Oder River.  In it, lying on straw, are 300 children ranging from 2 to 14 years of age.  There is hardly a sign of life in the whole group.  Their hollow eyes, their swollen bellies, knees, and feet are telltale signs of starvation.  These are merely the vanguard of hundreds of thousands—millions of homeless, shattered, hungry, sick, helpless, hopeless human beings fleeing westward – west of the Oder and Neisse rivers.

“A trust in God—in his goodness and mercy—these are the only hope of Germany today.  And thank God in many there is still faith in God against which the gates of hell have stormed in vain during the past decade.” (Sen. Homer Capehart in speech before U.S. Senate, Feb. 5, 1946)

The greed cemented into the Treaty of Versailles, negotiated by bankers Paul Warburg for the U.S. and Max Warburg for Germany, led to Germany’s 1923 hyperinflation and forced the impoverishment that led, out of starvation and desperation, ultimately to WWII.

Of the Versailles treaty, Francisco Nitti, the prime minister of Italy, wrote: ”The cost of the war of all participants totaled three times the value of all property in Germany. She was ordered to pay an impossible 1.7 billion marks a year (in foreign exchange) for 59 years, until 1988. Even worse, according to the normally circumspect banker, Hjalmar Schacht: ‘The Treaty of Versailles is a model of ingenious measures for the economic destruction of Germany.’”

In a Reparations Agreement between Israel and West Germany signed on September 10, 1952, “reparations would become a decisive part of Israel's income, comprising as high as 87.5% of the state income in 1956,” according to Wikipedia.

Later, “on behalf of US citizens, the US Foreign Claims Settlement Commission reached agreements with the German government in 1998 and 1999 to compensate Holocaust victims who immigrated to the US after the war...

“In 2009, Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz announced that he will demand a further 450 million to 1 billion Euros in reparations from Germany on behalf of some 30,000 Israeli forced labor survivors. Israel has also sought large discounts on the purchase of two German-built MEKO warships.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reparations_Agreement_between_Israel_and_West_Germany

On December 10, 2010, The New York Times wrote: “NOT many people noticed at the time, but World War I ended this year. Well, in a sense it did: on Oct. 3, 2010, Germany finally paid off the interest on bonds that had been taken out by the shaky Weimar government in an effort to pay the war reparations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles.”

In France you get free medical care; and very reasonable electric bills from the state owned electric utility that's mostly nuclear; in the US you get raped by private medical insurance companies, then get worse medical care; then go home and pay insane utility bills to private corporate "persons".Some things governments do better; especially if the alternative is to have the corporate "persons" buy the politicians.

The US is circling the drain to become like France and that pisses me off to no end.  However, it's even more maddening that people, like you, like to point to France as an improvement.  I don't want to live like that.  Why must you assholes insist on making me live the way YOU want.  You can move there and we'll both be better off.  Okay, you got me.  I'm lying.  If you move there I'll be better off and you will be better educated about reality on earth.  Let's try that.  You shut the hell up and move there.  I'll keep living here.  When I want to live like that I'll move there.

Deal?

PS - If you refuse to take the deal things will get bloody.  I will not submit.  I will defend my rights against little dictators like you, to the death.  Do you understand this?  Go there and live the way you want.  Stay here and to rule over me and take from me and you will cause people to die.  Be humane and just go away.

Moral chaos, Sheldon Richman wrote in his introduction to Frederic Bastiat’s The Law, comes from “generalized legal plunder…precisely because law and morality have been set at odds.” From Bastiat:

. "When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law."

Richman says “Bastiat points out that for many people, what is legal is legitimate. So they are plunged into confusion. And conflict”:

As long as it is admitted that the law may be diverted from its true purpose-that it may violate property instead of protecting it-then everyone will want to participate in making the law, either to protect himself against plunder or to use it for plunder. Political questions will always be prejudicial, dominant, and all-absorbing. There will be fighting at the door of the Legislative Palace, and the struggle within will be no less furious.

Sound familiar?

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in

In their sties with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking

Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon

'Cos I'm the taxman

If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

'Cos I'm the taxman
Yeah, I'm the taxman
Don't ask me what I want it for
(taxman mr. Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more
(Taxman mr. Heath)
'Cos I'm the taxman
Yeah, I'm the taxman
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cos I'm the taxman
Yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me

So, ZH, you do realize that the natural destination for a capitalist system, if uncorrected by socialist redistribution methods, is subsistence wages, mass unemployment, and collapse in consumer demand, right?

Or are you thinking magical ideas?  ZH, have YOU gone Full-Retard?  Are you -still- under the misapprehension of  what Adam Smith meant when he observed the "Invisible Hand" of economics?  Do you think that the supremely rational Adam Smith believed in Tooth Fairies/Confidence Fairies?

Do you think Adam Smith was talking about some just and fair "force" that made the long term outlook of unfettered capitalism work out for the worker/consumer?

Well, you are wrong.  The natural cycle of wage decline leading to poverty, reduced demand, reduced production and grinding misery are the "over the horizon" results of the capitalist system.  Smith was talking about the narrow give and take of commerce when left to its own without the corrupting influence of intervention from King and country.  Smith is not projecting the long term consequences and his target is the Imperial systems and government supported monopolies of his day.

Ask yourself:  Have wages been going up since the very end of FDR inspired redistributive mechanisms starting with Ronald Reagan?

Of course not.  YOU are working more hours, have less resources/savings, requiring both spouses to work and now even buying a home, the given reward of simple hard work/the American Dream, is shooting out of reach.

A nation of renters with no retirement savings lorded over by a ever smaller clique of super wealthy elites...that is the America I am seeing.

How about you?

Socialism can take many forms but the end result is the SAVING of the market system from itself.  It all boils down to REDISTRIBUTION.  Either we proceed with redistribution via progressive tax systems or hyperinflation or overt confiscation or we devolve into a dystopia and eventual bloody revolution.

Free market capitalism as regularly explained by many people on ZH is the ONLY way to run an economy to generate prosperity, pride, personal responsibility and freedom.

The minute political slimeballs interfere to "correct" things according to their particular dogmas is the very same minute that things head south. It then becomes a process of applying more and more corrections and you end up with utterly distorted markets. Economic collapse soon follows.

I hate to say it, but come 2015, we here in the Great White North might be casting envious eyes at Bambam and Hollande. We are poised, if the polls are accurate, to select as Prime Minister one Justin Trudeau, son of former Liberal (read "Socialist dictator") Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Justin is a freakin' high school drama teacher, but he has a mane of curly and unruly hair, and the womenfolk's hearts are a-throbbin'. Canada's political system doesn't have the restrictions of pesky Senates or Congresses; if he has a majority, he can do almost anything he wants.
