gold 1277....oops......
and with that the banks lose control......
what's going to be itneresting is what they direct obama to do as this entire economy craters AGAIN
and the banks move to loot the peasants AGAIN.
The choom president.
Those studies can suck my dick. Box cigs are straight up bad. Booze aint bad in moderation. This cartoon is drawn with/for/to create a biased worldview.
Ah yes, the ever illusive moderation we all seek. Addictions and obesity everywhere might indicate we are not so good with that.
I can moderate things, why can't others? I'm pretty sure we're all capable. Just because many do not is no reason to limit everyone's freedoms.
People have been enabled you see, and the temptation is too much for most. But you can't say it's impossible.
Could part of the reason be that we are trained like pavlovian dogs to be consumers, for which moderation is a bad quality? Wouldn't want you to consume less now would we? Gotta' keep that 'consumer economy' flowing. Sit. Stay. Good boy.
WHy can't others?
Cuz we have have a whole industry, neh, culture, developed by the idiots that 'took over' in the 60s and 70s that said 'me' and :I'm not responsible for my actions" and 12 steps and all the BS. Phil Donahue, Maury, Oprah, Dr. Phil, on and on. Excusing bad behavior.
Kill TeeVee...
Anyone who is against marijuana is no friend of mine and I don't even smoke it. Aren't the prisons full enough already?
I'm against pot
I'm against a lot of things but that doesn't mean I support laws against them. Its just that when we have these reversals of law, they are almost always to the benefit of the GOVERNMENT. Pot should have never been outlawed, but it was and now I think a reversal of this policy will offer much less than it first appears. Every vice that has ever been illegal is now a significant income producer for the government as well as contributing to the decline of our society. Or is it just a crazy me that thinks that alcohol and drug addiction are a significant problem and the poor pumping their meager earnings into lotto tickets are the last ones to be bailing out the government. Yes you are right, we should be free.
Conservatives are a funny lot. They see civilization as inherently fragile. Some thing like booze, sex, music, dancing or whatever is going to cause the end of civilization. Liberals on the other hand see the world/earth has inherently fragile, subject to potential destruction at any moment from the slightest disturbance of humanity. Both are wrong and both need to sack up.
The fact that millions have died at the hands of other humans who were driven by their need for personal gain and ideological dreams makes individual existence pretty damn fragile, and civilizations have not proven too durable either. As a race of creatures we have been fairly durable but as individuals, not at all. Look around. If you have children or other vulnerable loved ones, you are not nearly as inclined to see them as quite so durable. When it is just you, and You have survived thus far, things look pretty solid right? Drugs and alcohol hardly ever cause any harm. Again, I'm not looking to jail anyone. I just think drugs are dumb. Its really funny to hear people defending them like they are some great benefit to humanity. I don't want a law against people beating their heads against walls either. God knows I'm doing enough of it here.
"Pot should have never been outlawed, but it was and now I think a reversal of this policy will offer much less than it first appears."
Still better than being thrown in prison with murderers and rapists because you wanted to grow the crop of your choice, but I deffinitely see your point. Gov. is going to make a ton of money on pot DUI's, growing licenses, and taxes for those too lazy to grow their own.
Cigarettes and alcohol kill many time more people than marijuana ever has yet they are legal and they tax the crap out of those two but throw you in jail for MJ while spending billions on the 'Drug War'...I guess when you look at it from the Govt's perspective it all makes sense. Sorry, guess I been smokin' too much weed.
I've heard it all. Brian damage, dilsexia, short term... short term... anyway, hasn't affected me none whatsomoreover.
I'm pretty sure it improves your sense of humor though because looks like noone gets that this is a humorous dig at Zero and not a condemnation of MJ...or am I missing something? (It's a fucking cartoon people!)
Oh, I got that. I loved the cartoon.
But some posters are so militantly pro weed that that they won't accept any criticism of MJ.
BTW I support medical MJ for legitimate reasons, same as any med. But misuse of prescriptions, excessive boozing or totally high idiots menacing the public are all just bad.
"some posters are so militantly pro weed"
You have truly got the cart before the horse. The militancy of this issue orginates with the corrupt government having declared millions of people criminals for their choice of lifestyle; what you interpret as over-aggressiveness by commenters is actually a justified contempt for having been unwarrantedly criminalized as individuals. They did not start the fight, and they are the victims of corrupt governmental coercion. Prohibition in this case also needlessly and catastrophically undermines the credibility of government in the minds of millions of citizens.
Yeah, them and those pesky people who want liberty, freedom of speech, the right to carry, etc....
Not to mention alcohol actually does cause brain damage...
Ramirez seldom needs comment. He is the best.
he missed the mark on this one.
the boomers never gave up the habit (big secret)
and MJ is NOT our problem.
It's Not the Pot you Worry about, it's that Pesky little Crack Addiction..
i gots me a,
pelosi crack addiction
snnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnniff
Ewwwww! Gack! Now that is just nasty!
I don't quite understand. Is that where you have to sniff it to find out what's in it?
We already know what's in that.
Tyler, or whoever you are, you screwed up. Take this post down.
Maybe Tyler's on chooms.
Dope is for dopes. Period! It, like television, rots your brain and you don't even know it. Insidious

So you stand with, New York. Huh.
it has been a long time since I inhaled and I can assure you, um...wow look at that....
Actually, I had never seen a scientifically conclusive article showing marijuana causes brain damage. A cannibis researcher I know told me her research showed it actually improved lung function in moderate use ( high use was similar to controls so no benefit). Whereas in cigarette smokers, even mild use had demonstratively loss of lung function. I was a little surprised so even someone like me who doesn't like drug use can learn new things. She did tell me " synthetic marijuana" was absolutely the most dangerous, damaging thing one could do. Perhaps this is the brain damage of which this cartoon is referring.
Miffed;-)
Since 'scientifically' or 'technically' or something like that, synthetic ~ actual, it's all the same. Since synthetic rots your brain, so does the real stuff.
Science: 1
Nature: 0
Do please describe for me in biological and chemical terms the exact process of the rotting to which you refer. I'm familiar with brain anatomy and function, so I'll be able to keep up with technical explanations. Please proceed, sir.
There are quite a few synthetic molecules which are somewhat like THC, but range from being dozens to hundreds of times more powerful, and of course, can be taken in extreme concentrations, without any of the natural balance of other chemical found in a whole plant.
(P.S. I would suggest that the most interesting of molecules which bridge the gap between synthetic and natural is DMT.)
The reason the big O cut off funding is pharma. Can't remember the Dr.s name, but her research stated if cannibis was administered to vet's with PTSD w/i 24 hours of a traumatic event there was no permanent damage to the amygdala.
Pharma.
This could challenge Oldwood's rigid notion of stoners & addicts.
Willy, I grew up around stoners and such as well as being well involved myself. Virtually every person I associated with were stoners and dopers of every variety. I grew up in a college town in the sixties and seventies, so I saw plenty. I have known some pretty smart people who stayed stoned continuously. Maybe it helped their focus but I never found anything productive with mine. None of the people I "matured" with had any ambition other than to score more pot or speed or mollies or whatever their thing was. I finally moved out of state as I could see myself going nowhere, other than waking every morning reeking of pot and a headache that could crack walnuts. Admittedly we were not into moderation. It is what it is. Dope is for dopes in my opinion and oppologize if that affends. I'm not for putting anyone in jail for anything other than harming another. I just don't trust this government and think this is timing with a reason. If that makes me some kind of drug Nazi than so be it.
I've seen the same things. Just because people occasionally imbibe with alcohol does not make them an alcoholic. People can and do use anything for a crutch. Liqour, drugs, food, sex, whatever & so what. I don't trust .gov either. They only stick their nose in to steal money. Pretty soon w/ ACA those that cannot moderate wil be left to their own devises. It's not going to be pretty.
Behavior, and I repeat myself, will never be legislated.
Hi Willy, The reason the big O does anything, is because he can and it promotes his agenda. We dont need a strawman to blame. He's probably a fine fellow in real life.
I think the war on drugs is a horror bigger than any drug could ever be. I also think MJ is no as benign as many users insist. Look at alcohol. Those who use it daily insist it is not a proble. When they come out of rehab...well then they have tales to tell.
"Look at alcohol."
Nobody has tales to tell like full on alchoholics.
"You did what...?"
The alcoholics I know all suffer from CRS...Can't Remember Shit. Alcohol produces blackouts and interferes with committing short-term memory into long-term by interrupting sleep patterns...
iT aiN't nver meSsed mi bran uP .....
This is probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen posted here because the cartoon is implying weed is worse than alcohol and cigarettes and the President is wrong when he says it is NO WORSE than Alcohol and Cigarettes (I'm actually defending Obummer now that's how bad this is). This is just wrong no matter how you want to spin it. Furthermore, even if the cartoon's implying that weed was worse than alcohol and cigarettes was true spending over a trillion dollars over 40 years to stop people from using it is not worth it no matter how you try to spin it.
It's a cartoon, fer crying out loud. Not a statistic.
Like the "religious" getting upset over Dan Browns "The Da Vinci Code"
It said on the cover, " a novel"
Soms folks need a sense of humor.
Some folks shouldn't vote
Some folks should go to day camp
Bill Hicks- Drugs and Music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J10w3FuCwfQ ZH isn't becoming yet another NeoCon site is it? The internet is a big place, us brain dead stoners can go elsewhere if we're not wanted. Always thought most of us were libertarians, maybe I thought wrong.
Own, this ain't New York. Differences of qualified opinion, such as from the brain dead, I accept, if only for the etheral perspective
Not supporting dope smoking has nothing to do with being a "neo-con", it's about the truth and the truth is it's not good for your mind, body or soul. It, like TV, rots your brain to such an extent that you do not realize the damage it is doing. So yes, if you continue to smoke that shit, you'd be wrong.
Neither is alcohol, fat laden foods, driving fast, fucking prostitutes, being a douchebag...
Obama is brain damaged alright.
Ganja smokers for O'bummer! This qualifies for one of the worst posts EVER!
Ganja smokers ain't for anyone but themselves...and their dealer.
You're really a piece of shit, do you know that?
U Obamanites are zero's
"Dad, why is president Obama's approval rating so low?"
"Because people now feel embarrased to have believed he was different from his predecessor and had the juevos to do what he said he would"
Bummer.
the goal should be personal liberty, the more we let government make decisions for us the worse life is going to be, that doesnt matter if its what we can smoke or not, or what we can use as money.
i dont have the right to decide what you drink or smoke neither does any other individual, if you cant give up a right that you dont have, how did government get the right to tell us?
"We" let them...
I know dudes that are pretty good fishermen when they are stoned. I have never seen anyone be really productive when high. But it can help at the right place and time. Any vice should not be habit.
wisehiney, I made 740k last year stoned to the bone every minute of it.
If ignorance was a currency several of you here tonite would be rich.
And Oldwood, as far as stoners being selfish you need to tell the recently widowed woman whos husband dropped dead to return the several thousand dollars I gave her, no strings attached, when I learned of his passing. I only knew Michael from another blog and his postings I read weekly. I never met him. But hey, that's just how I roll.
I apologise for shattering your ignorant beliefs.
I might believe that bullshit when I'm high, but I'm not right now.
I don't give a damn what you believe
You are less of a wise hiney than you are a dumb ass.
James, I'm happy for you and apologize if I inferred you were selfish. I was thinking in terms of wanting the high above most other things. I'm also sorry that your addiction has so much control of your life that you can't function without it. There are many functioning addicts that reach great heights in their careers. I'm glad you are a generous soul. I knew a woman who was 103 years old that smoked a tabacco pipe almost every day of her life and died of natural causes, but I still didn't want to pick up the habit. Silly me I actually believed what scientists were saying about the dangers of cigarettes.
Oldwood, I just don't get people that want to always tell others what to do.
Most of them can't manage their own lives so i'll be damned if they'll run mine
I'm 57 years old and am known for "If you want to get it done, and done right ,call James" For almost four decades. I work hard. I have no criminal record. Spotless driving record. I owe nobody nothing money wise.
Case in point - Tampa Lowes had me under contract on occasion for installs. I'd walk in and Tony would say "Well at least one customer will be happy today" I was the guy who they sent out on their 100% guarantee to replace messed up workmanship. Customers loved me.
I do not partake in drugs - the white kind. My body won't take it. I just don't see the issue of cannabis or why people want to tell me what to do. Especially those of less I.Q. incapable of making what I can. If I met you personally you'd never guess I am a stoner. I'm clean-cut, polite, honest and on time.
Believe it or not I help people all the time. I don't have to do that.
What more should be asked of me in a functioning society?
One more thing, cannibis is not addictive.
Bullshit.
RIP ZH

What foreign and economic policy, did I miss something?
This cartoon has no place on ZH as it reinforces the idea that the state should be able to legistlate what we individually consume, and that somehow the war on drugs has validity. Drug laws are as tyrannical as gun laws. It also endorses the lie that there is some real scientific or medical reason for hemp (pot) to be restricted or controlled - that is a complete lie.
I despise Obama as much as anyone, but in the extremely rare occassion where he actually says something sensible - lets not react with bias, just because of the source. ZH has a history of posting quality information without bias regardless of the source, lets not start changing that now - this cartoon represents a bias against hemp due to the source - there is nothing wrong with hemp.
Hemp was made illegal for a number of reasons, all related to its threat on powerful moneyed interests - in other words its legal status was not determined by science or medicine, but rather because its widespread use would cause financial losses to some oligarchs.
Hemp is a powerful medicinal drug, which cannot be patented and would compete with big pharma, it is also a cheap source of paper and fibre products.
The modern pot with concentrated THC is not as good for you as natural hemp, because the rest of the healthy canaboids are decreased in concentration, it is still not a harmful substance. The concentrated THC version is useful for treatment of stress and pain though, so it has a medicinal use also. All varieties of hemp are useful in the treatment of cancer.
For myself I would like to eat around a teaspoon of ground hemp (and hemp seeds) daily, the health benefits are extra-ordinary - I think it is as powerful as turmeric, which I think should be consumed daily at about the same rate (at least 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric).
For those who want to smoke (THC enhanced) pot for recreational purposes, it can have some negative psychological effects if used in excess quantities over prolonged periods - but these are not physiological problems, but rather behavioral problems, which can be addressed by a change of environment and routine. It does not cause brain damage.
"Hemp is a powerful medicinal drug, which cannot be patented and would compete with big pharma, it is also a cheap source of paper and fibre products."
Thus the hatchet job done on hemp (marijuana) in the early part of the 1900s. Precisely because it was the most widely used substance for rope, twine, clothing, etc AND because the Duponts had developed synthetic fibers (nylon) - this was the one of the first most clearly obvious examples of crony activity. Not to mention the focus on blacks as the 'spreaders of use' of marijuana.
Also behind this effort were William Randolph Hearst (large timber holdings) and Secretary of Treasury Andrew Mellon who also had invested in Dupont's nylon.
Funny how the same people seem to recur throughout our history of trouble. Same as it ever was....
Lawd i need to tek a lik, dis reality i jus cya tek. But my wife won't let me.
The dope-addled fuck.
Good thing he is only a puppet.
Hilarious!
Libertine dopers' screechfest lines up in this thread.
Context: the .gov LOVES devisive issues, these are their weapons of mass destraction. Don't fall for it. If you don't like pot, don't smoke it. I find it amazing that the first thing one gets asked in a nice restaurant is "What will you drink?" and Superbowl ads push alcohol, which can cause brain damage if not used in moderation. The .gov has no business interfering with the personal choices you make that do not harm others and can in no way enforce what you do in the privacy of your bedroom.
Since when does the .gov know better what is and isn't good for me than I? Who will be responsible for the consequences of the choices I make, the .gov or I?
