Guest Post: Ukraine Is The Wrong Fight To Pick With Russia
Submitted by L Todd Wood via LToddWood.com,
The United States’ rapport with the Russian Federation is one of the world’s most important bilateral relationships. Russia maintains a large nuclear arsenal and is a resurgent player in world affairs. One only has to look at Russia’s recent role in the Syrian civil war and the Iranian nuclear problem to see Putin’s desire for ensuring Russia remains a powerful player on the global chessboard. Bashar al-Assad staying in power after murdering thousands of civilians with weapons of mass destruction, and the possibility of the Iranian Islamic state acquiring nuclear weapons have very real consequences to American security. Americans would be wise to understand the rich history of the Ukrainian region before interfering in its internal affairs and angering Moscow when there are more important issues with which to take a stand.
Ukraine was the heartland of the old kingdom of Kievan Rus. At one point the most powerful kingdom in all of Europe, the state included modern day Ukraine as well as Belarus (White Russia) and parts of modern day Russia. In the thirteen century, Ukraine was overrun by the Mongol Invasion and many of the Slavic peoples moved to the northern cities of Moscow and surrounding areas. Northern Slavic power developed into the Russian Federation we know today. For the last eight centuries, Ukraine has been ruled by many outside entities including Lithuania, Poland, and the Soviet Union. Ukraine finally became independent in 1991.
Russia has considered Ukraine to be a vassal for the last five hundred years. Russian President Putin has routinely referred to Ukraine as a Russian state rather than a free and independent country. Putin has whipped up anti-American sentiment in order to keep the threat of American trickery on the top of the ordinary Russian’s mind. The bottom line is that Russia considers the Ukraine to be in its sphere of influence and theoretically a part of Russia.
The result of all this history is that I believe it’s impossible for the West to unilaterally pull Ukraine away from Russian control. Actually it may be dangerous to attempt to do so and that effort my carry long term global consequences. Ukraine should be left to sort out its own problems. This view may be harsh but it is also realpolitik. The United States should stay out of this possible brewing civil war. The visit from John McCain and American State Department officials carried a very high media profile and needlessly inflamed U.S.-Russian relations. These types of efforts only serve to give the Russian government ammunition to excite anti-American sentiment within Russia and foster coercive measures by the Ukrainian government against the opposition and for Putin do to the same against the opposition in Moscow. Fifty-four percent of recently polled Russians consider America to be the number one threat to world peace compared to twenty-four percent of the rest of the world. The Kremlin’s propaganda has worked well. Sending American officials to Kiev only fosters this view.
Iran obtaining nuclear weapons however, is a different story all-together. Here we have a state that has actively called repeatedly for the destruction of the state of Israel. Iran has recently used weapons of mass destruction via its vassal in Damascus against the Syrian opposition. We are on the brink of a major arms race and nuclear escalation in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is rumored to be acquiring a nuclear capability to oppose the Iranian threat. This region of the globe has been a flash-point for the world throughout history. In my humble opinion, this would be an area to take a stand. This would be an issue on which to confront Putin and anger the Russia bear. The consequences of not doing so are horrific.
How would the United States react if Moscow was able to exert influence over Mexico and install a pro-Russian government? What if Mexico was to consider joining the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia? What if Mexico openly talked of joining a Russian military alliance against the United States? One only needs to look to the Cuban Missile Crisis to discover the American reaction.
America needs to take off her rose colored glasses and look at the world with a Machiavellian view. We should decide to intervene in centuries old conflicts only when there are clear American security interests involved. Unfortunately for the idealistic leaders of American foreign policy, Ukraine does not meet this test. The Ukrainian people have shown an ability over the two decades to have a natural ability to take matters into their own hands and are quite capable of deciding this issue among themselves.

Who says Russian is not just "slang Ukrainian"?
PS: Don't look know, but your biases are showing.
akak NZ is correct...
All families I know of in Kiev and area speak Russian at home and business, not Ukrainian.
Russian most used for business in Ukraine, except maybe Lyiv and area...far west to best of my knowledge
Yes - to be 100% honest, the ONLY time I hear Ukrainian is on the Ukrainian TV Channels (whilst in Kiev that is)
All our neighbors friends business associates etc etc speak Russian. Even our trips into West Ukraine (Lvov - Uzgorod etc) we always had/witnessed Russian dialogue.
Its all BS - fade thing sweaping the World. I get sick of this BS - it does nothing for the betterment of people in these countries etc
Same here in NZ - Maori was always pronounced Mow-ri
But the clever barsteds who want to fuck everything up decided it had to be pronounced Mauldi- ri - or something different and altered like that - total lot of crok !!
I guess the first part of the article is OK, then it devolves into OH GOD IRAN CAN"T HAVE A NUKE neocon bullshit. Who even is this guy? Tyler, are you awake? Brain damaged? A new Tyler? WTF?
"Iran has recently used weapons of mass destruction via its vassal in Damascus against the Syrian opposition"
L Todd Wood must be B Hussein Obama's pen name....
The sooner we get American Foreign Policy out of the hands of IVY LEAGUE pussies the better. We have nothing representing us worldwide but a bunch of small-dick fucks from Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, etc. and etal.
What a mess...
It plays on every level. He created every level.
This punk ass bitch pretending to be our 'leader' can't deal with the realworld.

Ukraine on the Verge of Civil War: Blood on the Maidan | Global Research
2014.02.02
Ukraine is teetering on the verge of civil war, and as usual Western media haven’t been particularly helpful in shedding light on the unravelling situation. Aside from evocative photos of clashes between legion-like formations of Berkut riot police and their rough nationalist opponents on the Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), about all we can expect from the mainstream press corps is the following fanciful narrative:
- When corrupt Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych scrapped the country’s EU Association Agreement he had been set to sign in November 2013, “peaceful protests” were launched by pro-Western Kievans intent upon a European future.
- Popular anger only intensified after Yanukovych agreed to a wide-ranging economic cooperation treaty with Vladimir Putin’s Russia on December 17th. Helpless, liberty-loving Ukraine was being sucked into Moscow’s dark orbit. Only the gallant protestors could halt this process.
- The battle for Kiev continues as the unsteady regime enacted draconian laws limiting freedom of assembly in an attempt to hold on to power. Ukraine is the new front line in the struggle for democracy, genetically engineered Big Macs, and psychological warfare via Disney and MTV.
Strategic realities, however, rarely fit the script of a made-for-TV morality tale. The story behind the scenes concerns a drive by the United States to short-circuit Russia’s resurgence where it truly matters: in Ukraine.
US foreign policy commentators would rather divert focus from facts that discredit their preferred plotline; the first of these is Washington’s activation of an upgraded template for carrying out a coup d’état in Kiev. For over a decade now, the American public has been led to believe that successive waves of “people power” have risen up to overthrow oppressive rulers across Eurasia and the Middle East, all of whom just happened to contradict US interests. None of this was accidental; from Belgrade and Tbilisi to Minsk and Kishinev, the CIA and State Department have carried out plausible-deniability regime-change operations with varying degrees of success. Western darling Viktor Yushchenko’s 2004 “Orange Revolution” deflated ignominiously, but Ukraine’s valuable geographic position and its ethnic and cultural fissures have again made it the target of US covert action.
[...]
The lands astride the Dnepr and the Don are not only the historical heart of Eastern Slavic civilization; they form the cornerstone of a viable Russian security posture vis-à-vis Europe. For a proper understanding of the aims of US foreign policy in Ukraine, it is worth recalling the analysis of Zbigniew Brzezinski, strategist emeritus of international financial elites:
Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire…However, if Moscow regains control over Ukraine, with its [46 million] people and major resources as well as its access to the Black Sea, Russia automatically regains the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia.
Brzezinski also often speaks of his hopes for the imposition of liberal democracy upon Russia – doubtless due to his tremendous philanthropic affection for the Russian people. The only things he consistently despises about that nation are its sovereignty, identity and Orthodox Christianity.
It is a sovereign Russia that prevents bankster-run America from fully realizing the inhuman dream of a planetary panopticon; therefore Brzezinski and his acolytes in the US national security apparatus have slated their enemy for subversion and dismemberment. Coupled with continuous unofficial US backing of Islamic separatist movements in the Caucasus, choreography of a revolution in Ukraine is a rather cheap method of destabilizing Russia’s southern periphery. Not only would the 2014 Sochi Olympics be overshadowed, but major energy projects like South Stream could also be thrown into disarray. As in Kosovo, unleashing chaos to the accompaniment of liberal-humanitarian rhetoric can furnish a ready excuse for the introduction of NATO forces into a region.

Google Ukraine news. It is on the internet.
@ Joseff Stalin
In the frontlines about the Ukraine news, google presents the most active sources are those familiar, the world's loudest trumpets: REUTERS; BBC; Yahoo News; Daily Telegraph UK; New York Times; ABC News; The Guardian UK; FoxNews; Wall Street Journal; CNN;
see some Ukraine sources such as kyivpost; un.ua; kievukraine.info; ukrinform.ua; en.for-ua
not familiar with all of them, perhaps later i'll try to find out their true colors...
Kyiv post is biased as hell in favor of the radicals..
Most media is controlled by same triibe as in west.
Kyiv historically has too many of these...search it.
In west Ukraine, too many real non Ukrainian blood
KyivPost is Yulia Tymoshenko's paper
Yep..her face has its own spot on KyivPost homepage

Zbigniew Brzezinski was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1928. His family, members of the nobility (or "szlachta" in Polish), bore the Tr?by coat of arms and hailed from Brze?any inGalicia in the Tarnopol Voivodeship (administrative region) of then eastern Poland (now inUkraine).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Brzezinski
His diplomatic corp parents migrated to Canada and then US. He has realistic and critical views regarding Middle East but off the wall views of Poland being center of Eastern Europe region. Old Russian saying
" velicaya Polshja " meaning " grandiose Poland" which refers to their living in the royal and majestic past. In this sense UK and Poland have much in common although on a different scale of pomposness. Unfortunately Poland has always been caught in the middle of East and West and has paid dearly. Holding on to the past gives them pride and satisfaction, but could again be fatal considering their geographic location and torn allegencies. Bottom line is US should not be drawn into this mess but probably will because now it has become a rivalry of Capitalism vs Sovietism , the core interest of Neocons. Weird world we live in considering Poles were not kind to Jews in WW II
"...sovereign Russia that prevents bankster-run America..."
Russia is also bankster run. The banksters make money by engineering wars. They have engineered all wars since 1815. They were involved in the American Revolution, 1776, and engineered the War of 1812, England vs. America.
Plus the US/Obamarx opposition to Russia via sanctions/trade embargos based on their stand against the growth of homosexuality in men and women is also assinine....And you can count on CNN for their Coopers and other homos to lobby against them. It must be really fun what they do in bed....Disgusting swine!
neocon propaganda, the US needs to fuck off out of everyones business period.
we shouldnt intervene here but we should intervene there, fuck you no foreign entanglements stay in your own fucking borders and trade.
Ukraine is essential to Russian strategic interests. For the US, Ukraine is a distant and non-essential pastoral backwater. For small investments in direct diplomacy and indirect leverage through central europe, the Nordics, and the Baltics, the US can create a ceaseless heartache for Moscow. A Moscow focused on how to prevent the Ukraine from joining NATO, adopting the Euro, and trading Ukraine wheat for Norwegian natural gas is a Moscow that has little interest in extending influence into sub-saharan Africa or into south-central America. There is no need for the US to turn Ukraine into an American vassal state - it is enough that Ukraine is not a Russian vassal state - and certainly never a reliable one.
Without the UKRAINE, the EU fails, ... it implodes its PONZI requires fresh blood, if the UKRAINIANS stand up to BRUSSELS then its all over for the EUROLAND.
The IMF-SDR MUST have the euro on board to force the world to go to the one world currency,
Its imperative for the New World Order NOT to lose UKRAINE.
This battle over UKRAINE means everything to Hillary Clinton and her plan to rule the world.
*
If the USA/Brussels/CIA/NSA/Interpol if they lose UKRAINE then all the dreams of a EURO/CNY/USD currency to become the IMF-SDR fails.
The USA will destroy UKRAINE will kill every man & child in UKRAINE if they fail to allow themselves to be taken over by EURO-LAND.
It will be Yugoslavia of the 90s all over again. It will lead to the Balkanization of the Ukraine. Europe then better expect the influx of many refugees. We don't need no more fucking military conflicts in Europe.
First Israel lost Syria, ...
Now Israel has been promised "Ukraine", and it looks like its going to lose this one too.
*
Might ask what? Well Israel doesn't want GAZPROM oil/gas being bought, so they want to OWN Ukraine.
*
The EU (EURO) is a NAZI creation and the IMF(NSA/CIA/UN), they want UKRAINE, if they don't get UKRAINE then the EU-EURO-BRUSSELS PONZI Implodes.
In order for Goldman-Sachs to get the world on the IMF-SDR, there must be a EURO, if the EU loses Ukraine, then its game-over for EURO-LAND, this is high stakes for AIPAC&Goldman-Sachs (NSA,CIA,MOSSAD).
*
Toss in the fact that NSA/CIA/AIPAC/EU gave UKRAINE a world-wide monopoly on BITCOIN Mining
*
High stakes game here, over who get's to OWN UKRAINE.
So far the 'people' seem to say FUCK YOU TO THE EU, and HELLO PUTIN.
*
The USA has offered everything but their first born to get the UKRAINIAN people to come over and get fucked hard by the NSA/CIA,aka GOLDMAN-SACHS,... Th Ukranians see Obama, and then look at PUTIN, ... its an easy choice too bad ameriKKKa didn't have that choice.
The article is correct only partially, Ukraine was not considered a vassal by Russia, it was part of Russia, standards applied to Russia were the same as to Ukrainians, thee were no restrictions for Ukrainians ever. For example the head of upper chamber of Russian parliament even now is Ukrainian. Ukraine joibed TRussia willingly, after all.
And it is not rivalry between Moscow and Russia what destabilizes Uthe Ukraine, because the coubtry is split anyway and can be only neutral as a compromise between proRussian and proWestern parts. Any attempt to pull it into the EU will tear it apart and not because of any Russian action but becayse half of Ukrainians oppose it.
Good Add That's not commonly known. There is a strong work, ethnic and social connection with Russia. Either way this goes there will be confusion and a split.
Todd - you are a fucking moron - Assad did NOT use WMD - the CIA gave them to the rebels and had them gas women and children:

US media blacks out Seymour Hersh exposé of Washington’s lies on sarin attack in Syria
The American media has blacked out an account by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh demonstrating that President Barack Obama and the US government lied when they claimed to have proof that the Syrian government carried out a sarin gas attack last August on areas near Damascus held by US-backed “rebels.”
Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power and other top officials declared categorically that the August 21 attack on Eastern Ghouta, which reportedly killed hundreds of people, had been carried out by the Syrian military. They, along with the leaders of Britain and France, sought to use the gas attack to stampede public opinion behind their plans to attack Syria, cripple the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and install a puppet government.

Seymour Hersh exposes US government lies on Syrian sarin attack
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has published an article demonstrating that the US government and President Barack Obama knowingly lied when they claimed that the Syrian government had carried out a sarin gas attack on insurgent-held areas last August.
Hersh’s detailed account, based on information provided by current and former US intelligence and military officials, was published Sunday in theLondon Review of Books. The article, entitled “Whose sarin?,” exposes as a calculated fraud the propaganda churned out day after day by the administration and uncritically repeated by the media for a period of several weeks to provide a pretext for a military attack on the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Fuck you to hell, you worthless POS Todd Wood. Go die in a gulag, or starve to death like millions of Ukrainians under Stalin. The only thing worse than tyrants are their cowardly apologists, and that would be you.
So much pro-russian talk lately from people who do no business in ukraine or russia. Sure the west installs/backs dictatorships all over the world..but lesser so lately. Now the plan is more just direct bank slavery whihc is slow and less violent but slavery non the less. I'm firmly on the West's side on this one though. Doing alot of business in both russia and ukraine i'm telling you for humanity's sake West needs to win this one or the suffering will be immense. Here's an article i wrote on my blog that kinda explains what they are facing.
http://signalinea.com/tales-from-my-ukrainian-maid/
Blog is mainly charts but sometimes i throw politics in there.
You will not ingratiate yourself with the Putin Man-Crush team here at ZH, but I can guess that is not your goal.
Perhaps you should start writing dime-store paperbacks and then post foreign policy posts to ZH?
JJ
Read your blog post.
I laso have/do business in Ukraine.
I agree with you on the Victor clan takeovers - we (my wife is Ukrainian - mother still in Kiev and many friends etc)
We have also heard of poor conduct and actions Re Police etc
But - we have had NO problems, and yes, you always pay a backhander at customs/freight etc etc, but the system works fine for us and is still more predictable and cheaper than the likes of the "Red Tape" Nanny State of New Zealand.
The fact that we have "no problems" dose not give reason for it to be alright or acceptable.
Most Ukraine people have to live a 2nd/3rd grade existence because of what you have exposed, this is not good and change needs to happen soon.
Unfortunately - I think that very little will change no matter what happens. The next leaders will do the same (maybe not as blatant as Vic's lot) but the last lot (the other Vic and the beautiful Gaz Princess) didn't go without either !!!!
NZ...If you don't mind, where is your home in Ukraine?
before you mentioned relatives in Kyiv.
Kiev - Vatutana Prospect
I (and my wife ) spend 2-3 months of the summer there. Actually 1 month in Kiev then 1 month in Crim and back to Kiev for 3rd month.
"Bashar al-Assad staying in power after murdering thousands of civilians with weapons of mass destruction"
oh really? and where's the proof?
this article is bullshit.
Ukraine ethno-linguistic & political division
I just take a closer look on the map of Ukraine and its Ethno-linguistic and the entailing political division.
If Ukraine eventually goes splitted into two separate countries, on the map it seems the pro-EU side (Northwestern regions, closer to the Eastern Europe) has a slightly bigger pie of territory while the pro-Russian side (Southeastern area, closer to the Russian Federation) has more mines and industrial bases (and even more airports).
But if Kirovohrad Province (which is located in center part) in fact opts to align itself with the Russia, the territorial size between two will be nearly equal.
But i believe this will be the last trump card just to be played out as the last resort.
The message of this article is that Ukraine is part of the Russian sphere of influence whereas Syria and Iran are part of the US sphere of influence.
Bullshit!
time to remove ZH from 'favorites' is approaching..
''America needs to take off her rose colored glasses and look at the world with a Machiavellian view. ''
no shit.. so far America looked at the world from Mother's Theresa point of view
Hillary Clinton is NOT the virgin mary, or the Mother Theresa, Hillary Clinton is the bitch insect mother from ALIENS.
If HILLARY is not destroyed by PUTIN, then she will destroy the earth.
Rose colored glasses my ass, everywhere Hillary goes is covered with human blood, ... Rose my ass.
Hillary will make both Obama and Bush look like pacifists. "We came, we droned, they died -- don't ask why. Cackle Cackle."
The Ukraine fits into the USG policy of global dominance of the American Empire by extending NATO to surround Russia to keep it contained. That has been overt USG policy since the USSR collapsed and the Berlin Wall came down. The USG is attempting to enforce "its" model of totalitarian governance on the world instead of the Russian model of totalitarian governance.
As has been discussed ad nauseum on ZH, there really is not much difference between the various factions of totalitarian government. Eventually they all result in total government and the destruction of personal freedoms/liberties, where people become slaves to The Almighty State.
Little has changed since the days of Hitler and Stalin who went to war - not because there were major philosophical differences - but over who will be top-dog of totalitarianism.
Thus, taking on Russia in the Ukraine may be wrong, but it is explainable.
I reject your angle, way too focused on a "totalitarian" government vs "the People"
take the United Kingdom in the 19th Century. can you in any way call it "totalitarian"?
it was the "smallest gov" ever, with the lowest taxes, the first and true "Night-Watch Government"
with the highest standards of personal freedoms/liberties, particularly if you were rich, of course
yet it was also the most imperialistic, and it excelled in shipping out it's poor and dissidents to penal colonies. further, it employed the first armed corporations, like the East India Company, with it's own flag, army and navy
a wonderful case of a gov that did not oppress the people. Common Law courts and corporations made a wonderful job of it
be careful what you ask for
damn good analogy.
There are many ways to win the war for access to RMs lacking at home, by Opium wars that soften mindsets, and the myth of white man's burden that allows you to use Indian and Egyptian cotton to build your own textile industry; something that the Flemish did for centuries based on english wool imports!
The playing fields of Eton did raise both kind of men : the law makers and democrats at home defending thel legacy of Magna Carta, --not falling into the French trap of emulatiing over the centuries the Roman legacy of absolutism of Julius of the Ides of March! -- and the scions of East India wealth lording it out in Hong kong, Delhi, Calcutta and from Cairo thru Cyprus to Gibraltar!
Rule the Seas and keep your green lawns impeccable!
the strangest thing about our modern times is that many of our American Cousins fear FEMA camps yet are blind to the modern "poor houses" that imprison millions in their own backyard. and don't see that they are analogous to the first time Common Law courts populated countries like Australia with undesired poors - without big gov involvement
there are three schools of political thought: conservativism, socialism and liberalism
driven to ideological excesses, all three spawn regimes that are against basic human decency
conservatives, when exceeding, give us totalitarian fascist regimes
socialists, when exceeding, give us totalitarian communist regimes
liberals*, when exceeding, give us plutocratic regimes, aka inverted totalitarianism
------
(*) includes liberatarians, anarcho-capitalists and so on. good folks, yet often with no clue about history, imho
I'll drink to that summary.
I'll extend your analogy to the Man-Woman conundrum that is the other enigma of the modern age...by trying to emulate you.
There are three types of male gender schools of thought : Bearded, Smooth cheeked but smooth tongued. Androgenous and metrosexual. They all have different views about the female gender.
Bearded : This one is the original patriarchal creed. Adam's rib and Harem. Stone them if they run away to dance in the streets. "Just make the food and the children and enjoy looking at the ceiling!" (True conservatism.)
Smooth double Burger : You are free to be our equals but if you show your tits on the streets all bets are off, 'cos we hate Amazonian Femen who don't respect the equality we give them as a "conditioned" privilege that celebrates female empancipation in principle. (Some are more equal than others when the undies drop. You have to have a pee wee to be taken seriously; and I do mean seriously! True socialism to a T.)
Metrosexual : You can do what you like but you can't dance in my blue suede shoes. (I wanna be more woman than you!). Now that is what I call true inverted gender totalitariansim. Boy o boy (Oups, I mean gal)
LOL, that was a really good one. cheers, falak!
you know you are touching indeed some truths, with your analogy extension... yet I don't dare to go into that, now
You forgot the swelling nascant school of thought that says;
"You better piss-off and leave us all alone you parasitic state-ist thieving rat-bastards".
yes, the real challenge is to bring more ladies into that school.
all-boys' schools are so boring...too many cockfights & circle jerks.
Yeah, pissing contests end in puddles. Problem is I think I'm a latent misogynist. I never thought I was, then I discovered by accident one day, while watching some women on a reality TV show, that I really can't stand women like that. Then I almost immediately realized most of them are like that. Then I also immediately realized I like screwing them (some of them), but not a whole lot else is that enticing about them. Then I almost immediately groaked why many traditional male-dominated societies regard females so poorly, and how all that came about. It was quite a bit shocking to realize that (about myself as well), but it was also liberating to understand it a bit better.
Am I being far too honest here tip.e.?
I predict several red flags may come of this ... just a hunch.
interestingly, if you show a bit of your misogynism while chatting up hot gals... you'll be rewarded. and this is even more shocking to realize. often females create sub-cultures they themselves can't stand. this is rooted in their group behaviour
As you point out, they bring it on themselves. At least I understand now why ALL Australian towns had public bars and private clubs in which women were banned from entering, when I was still a young'un ... well, unless they were a bar maid, of eye-candy-esque qualities. Wives had to go into the 'Lounge', and were never allowed into the bar for any reason. It wasn't even a law, it was the general cultural preference.
That didn't end until the hardline progressive socialists took over in Dec 1973, and made it a law that women could no longer be excluded from the public bar. Abos were also banned from the bar, but that one took a lot longer to go away, despite the laws.
it was the same way in the South Africa I remember, and the old clubs in London. yes, a cultural preference, and the chance of not having to conform to the "weaker sex" tastes and sensibilities. remember how little talk there was in those environments?
Yes, it was delightful.
Come to think of it, the 'Abos' were also absolutely banned, both male and female, by unanimous cultural preference, and that took a few decades to go away, even after laws were passed to provide equality. The cultural preference is still there, it won't go away, and it is, and will remain, more resilient than a progressive law I'd say. It's there, just not enacted any longer. But what we do have is a lot of private clubs that now vet applicants, to get rid of the undesirable component.
And interestingly, over the past ten years or so a whole bunch of suburban 'men's clubs' have sprung up, around the 'garage' culture. Mostly because men had no place of their own anymore, away from women. Some restore cars, or build boats, and do male-stuff, and talk to males about stuff that males are actually interested in and need to express, and engage in, to feel good.
A lot of it also was seen to be permissible, on the grounds of 'therapy', for urban depression within so many men. The relief came from getting away from all women for several hours. It took away the stress and made them feel a lot less miserable. lol
Indeed, in Aboriginal culture itself there was also a clear division between men's business, and their secret meeting places, and women's business, and social places. And uninvited intrusions could actually end your life.
"A lot of it also was seen to be permissible, on the grounds of 'therapy', for urban depression within so many men"
fuck. this sounds like social engineering gone berserk. and retracing some of it's worst. sorry if I can only express astonishment, and a cultural shock
perhaps this is not what I should write at this point, but for us continental european men, this looks like we dodged a bullet. or several, if you count 2nd, 3rd and 4th wave feminism paired with political power and social engineering. compared to what you hint at, we are still at full barbarian level, with conservative leaders who have a couple of mistresses and so on and nobody gives a fucking fuck about it.
for us, Sarkozy, Berlusconi, Hollande and Putin are normal men, doing what normal men do when bathing in the girl-bait profume that is power
we usually stare amazed at our Scandis and their new ways. including Swedes that think they can outlaw prostitution without having to pay the social price for it
Social engineering? We silly oceanic colonials just call it the hardline progressive-socialist agenda, for short.
And we fucking detest it!
We detest the smart-arse State-ist fuckwits who try to enact laws and political-correctness, to force it on us to institute unnatural action within human beings, which brings many negative consequences and stresses, in the misguided attempt to 'civilize' us, or 'develop' us, or socialy 'improve' us, sophisticate us, for the golden-age of better socialist-progressive world-order, full of unicorns, rainbows, and a plethora of dull, boring stupid dumbasses, oh, and protected bankster and political crooks.
We must sublimate our natural inclinations and tendencies to the Gawd of socially-engineered stupidness and vicious actually anti-social invective.
Yeah, good point.
But really, I must call it a night now, it's early here, cheers.
ok, I'll drop my use of "Oceanic" in the Orwellian 1984 sense, and use Five Eyes instead. and since you have reminded just lately that international policy on certain matters was driven by Uncle Sam, I'll use that a bit more sparingly
I detest this feminist drive from the 2nd to the 5th gen too. it's just that in our political context, it's less bound to the the socialist and the nearly inexistent "progressive" agendas, who are less entangled to each other. spontaneously I'd point out that this is an effect of multi-party electoral systems. Yet I have to admit that Scandinavians are in the grip of this "agenda", and this points, methinks, to a cultural instead of a political matter
thanks. now I think do understand better what you mean by statist. and civilization. and development. and sophistication. and improvement. and progress
from your point of view I see many reasons to detest all that
damn assholes hijacked a whole sector of the English political vocabulary. feels like NewSpeak. and no, I don't feel superior because we are not yet there, then nothing confirms we won't follow, eventually. again, thanks
au contrare, honesty is a lost art, especially when it's directed inwards.
totally agree that there should be times when genders can freely associate separate from each other. just think the "fuckers piss off and leave us alone" school definitely needs a touch more feminine energy.
i/o/w the chicks need to step up instead of offering their silent consent and/or pulling the strings behind the curtain. last 5 years have proven that all this bitchin' by us boys only goes so far.
True, tip.e, fortunately there are still several very smart females at zh, who are wickedly switched-on. But as I pointed out already, most women today are so self-involved, shallow, verging on neurotically ego-maniacal, and deeply petty, and socially conditioned and accepted to be such, that I doubt we're going to see flood of feminine input, making great strides in ways that are generally actually helpful to our present world situation.
Most of the women who pretend to be 'serious' minded are still involved in touchy-feely self-aggrandizing BS propaganda making (green politics comes to mind here for some reason). However, I wouldn't mind if an enterprising male (a soon to be billionaire, and yes, it would be a male) built a cloning machine that produced variations-on-a-theme of Lauren Lyster by the millions, per day (who then went to Yahoo and was promptly never seen or heard from again).
That could be the ultimate revolutionary act, and one we'd all happily participate in, I'd buy one, and so would you ... just for the sharp conversation alone, ... ok, maybe a bit more ...
But at the risk of a further slide down the slippery slope of luridly offensive misogyny, I'm afraid if we're waiting/hoping for females to show up in numbers, we'll be waiting longer than we have time. I suspect it's primarily up to men to make the changes needed ... once again ... as per usual.
And I don't mind if some dishonest and unbalanced women don't like that that's how things really work, at such times, and most probably always will.
Element, please don't use the word statist without qualification. It can mean a proponent of A) BIG gov or a proponent of B) the state in general. imho a big difference, though it might of course be only of perspective, as usual
the opponent of A is manyfold, the opponent of B is the anarchist. and they range from the noble Spartacus to the abject pirates and warlords, from the gentle anarcho-syndacalist to the Holy Roman Empire "Robber" Baron
so imho the school is not nascent. it's re-nascent, aka having a Renaissance
You over-think this stuff, I said it, not someone else. I'm not going to qualify this, it's clear enough.
no, it's not clear. and your side-remark about bail-ins is not an argument on the original matter. in banking you have either bail-ins, or bank defaults, or bail-outs
in the first two cases the uninsured bank accounts have to bleed. take your (what I perceive as) technically orientated excellent mind to this little trilemma and tell me that you are a proponent of bail-outs in general, if you dare
face my arguments, Element. you have no idea about my personal life or my experiences with poverty, riches and extorsions on my expenses
Nor do I care to know what is your business. My views are the product of a life, mostly lived, which is also none of your business or concern, and my comment is not an 'argument'. You may argue with yourself, and I'm sure you don't resile from doing so. There's nothing in your relativist commentary that merits a 'facing'. I can go a lot further than a technical discussion, but some things should be kept fairly un-embellished, raw, unrefined ... colonial even.
But for reasons, the subtly and practicality of which would almost certainly escape you, if I'm familiar with you at all, but mostly because I'm not interested in convincing anyone of anything in this area. Though you seem quite ardent and curiously adamant to that end.
I'm not sure what you mean with "colonial", and this reminds me how someone thought I was regularly insulting Australians, which still baffles me
perhaps I am ardent on certain matters, yes. particularly when I want to understand. and so I love arguments, facts, and so on. I understand that other people write here on ZH for other reasons, yet most of their reasons still escape me, on a gut level
Understanding and convincing is personal. No matter my argument, and despite your own opinion of your own assumed earnestness (for want of a better word), you will still go away with the personal conclusions you already have. Indeed, in a week you won't even remember almost a single word of what I write to you. So what do I care to engage with you on that level? I can certainly correct you on a technical detail, sure, which you may remember, and probably will, but I can not change your views on anything. That's your job, and I play no role there.
earnestness? me? I'm more used to read "pompousness" ;-) methinks this comes with my writing style
you seem to have a dim view of my motives, with a hint of... perhaps thinking I'm doing a job, here. or perhaps having a cause. I can't convince you of the contrary with facts, then this would mean I'd have to prove you my identity, my life, etc. (where I have to be way more guarded about what I say)
I can't prove it here, but I changed my views several times, in my life. perhaps this is not the right thread for that, but you are welcome to "try me", if you don't mind the expense of writing an extra line
Consider it a back-handed compliment then. lol
What I do know, and I really do know this, is that everything I know is also terminally flawed and irretrievably secondary. And I have no way to show you why that is so.
However, you may also superficially think it, and not actually know, the precise reason why I'm profoundly convinced of that. Which would be an illusion-creation event, on your part, via your own mind, and also quite irrelevant to me in every way.
But I'd still actually know why it's so, and you would not, and you won't ever know in fact - there is no transference of that sort of knowledge.
So if only I know this, and I can not in any way communicate why that is, to you, in expressible intelligible symbol/verbal form, then we're not really able to communicate - at all.
Despite all present appearances.
So. There it is.
We can have a trite chat, of course, why not, and we do. But none will learn anything, via that way, which they did not already know, and simultaneously do not know at all (and won't even know what I mean by that).
And yes, I know that what I said above is totally incomprehensible and unacceptable to 99.999999999999% of people, and therefore it is quite a useless thing to say.
But its all true ... and as you say, you like truth.
I've got to go zzzzz now.
well, strong personal experiences belong to the category of things that can be talked about, yet not really transmitted. that's why young kids have to touch the fire, feel the pain, until you can seriously talk to them about how handle fire. if it's in this range, then I might not understand, yet I think your sentence makes sense to me
won't go now into it, all the things that are bubbling in my head would just make verbose inanities. sleep well
Would you two get a room?
jelousy does not suit you. try something more pink to match your cheeks, dear
I'll drink to that summary.

Drink up tonight, for tomorrow we die.
"there are three schools of political thought: conservativism, socialism and liberalism"
No, the only real way to analyse government is by studying "how much" government each political party offers, on a scale of 0% (anarchy) to 100% (totalitarian).
In the UK nowadays, we do not have any political party which subscribes to the idea of small/limited/constitutional government with "The People" playing the role of supreme power.
In fact the UK does not even have a proper constitution and the political elites never mention one and would fight tooth and nail to prevent such a thing emerging. Because however weak it was, it would impose certain limits on their power and they will have none of that.
No, the political parties simply spend their time squabbling over which nail of the coffin to bang in next. And each nail represents a further step towards totalitarianism. "We" the voter are supposed to see all this squabbling as an ideological divide. It is nothing of the sort. It is a giant sham designed and intended to deceive people, while quite progress towards totalitarianism continues unchecked.
I never mentioned the UK government of the 19th century.
My comments were simply an attempt to explain the USG & EU involvement in the Ukraine today. As I said, it is explainable by looking at NATO's push to surround Russia and the Ukraine is a key geographical location. Meaning that the USG & EU want the Ukraine to get into bed with "the west", not with Russia, so they are doing everything possible to stir up the civil unrest there against the incumbent President.
And I really believe that current trends in the US - and in varying degrees the UK & EU - are goosestepping slowly towards totalitarian government. We see this all around us with ever increasing police statism, heavily armed DHS in the US, UK Met Police wanting water cannons, central planning of all capital markets. The list goes on. At geopolitical level, the battle becomes "which model of totalitarianism": that of the West or the Russian one.
Take your pick.
That's why I mentioned Hitler and Stalin: even though they went to war, it was not really because of any diametric ideological differences (many people say the Nazis were Marxists), but who was going to be the top-dog. Both of these models were totalitarian.
re ...the idealistic leaders of American foreign policy
"IDEALISTIC"? Just for starters, try tellin' that to +1million dead Iraquis
Is this guy some kinda freekin' moron?
You can't get more Machiavellian than the US-Saud alliance to protect hegemonical control of sweet ME oil with Israel playing as Templar state whose avowed policy is local expansion at the expense of neighbours inspite of repeated UN resolutions; having built a wall to shame Ulbricht's protective knee jerk of 1961-- antifascist wall -- became wall of shame; a tale to remember in Jerusalem of today.
Moreover, the NSA evil eye worldwide spawned by the Patriotic Act hubris and paranoia is more evidence that benevolence in not the strong suit of US Neo-con administration that has run the world economy into current deperdition since BW revoke and Donkey-Elephant denial and hubris from Nam-Watergate to Abacus-Tarp-QE fiat demolishment.
This guy sings a song that would win him no Granny awards except maybe one for twerking his mind like an intellectual Miley Cyrus.
What a fat butt stuck in an old rut. Picking fights when you are prime world predator is not a good formula for the future.
(Not saying that Putin won't get his comeuppance as well..)
Mr. Nuttanyahoo take down this wall!
Right ON, until ISRAEL is proverbial Silicon, they will continue to assume it there manifest destiny to rule the world and that includes Ukraine.
Israel is pissed as hell as a whore with herpes that she didn't get to kill every man, woman, and child in Syria.
Now She moves on to Ukraine.
Israel want's to be the middle 'woman' selling Saudi OIL to Eastern-Europe, she (Hillary) see's herself as the obvious saleswoman in Genocide.
I wish to say that this wasn't true, and that the NEO-CONS (OBAMA) weren't owned by AIPAC men from Chicago, or that Obama hadn't been bitch fucked by the entire Israeli Army, but sadly he was.
Only PUTIN stand's between freedom, and tyranny, some might ask, ... "how did we get here?", ... you need only look in the mirror.
Tom Clancy's (RIP) new book Command Authority is about the relationship of the Russian president and KBG head to the Mafia, and how they use Mafia thugs to destabilize Ukraine and make excuses for invasion.
Publication of the book was delayed... perhaps to capitalize on current events and the Olympics.
Wonder if it's more truth than fiction?
In any event we should stay out. Sounds like an EU problem. Maybe France could intimidate by sending its carrier into the Black Sea.
The Russian mafia is very powerful organization. No surprises there most intelligence services will use organized crime to take care of dirty work they don't want any paper trails leading back to them. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.
It is about the EU not the US. The US just enforces the Technotwats in Brussels wishes on this issue.
What really sucks about this is it really doesn't matter what the people in the Ukraine actually want both sides are going to grind them between the mortar and pestle until someone gets their way. They won't ever leave them alone forcing the Ukraine to be at permanent alert status to guard against both and when one wins the place is going to be permanent police state as long as each side keeps agitating the issue to divide the country.
If the Ukraine really wanted to be free both sides would stop fighting each other and tell the EU and Russia to go fuck off.
Yep, that is the reality of so called fucking DEMOCRACY.
THe USA has their plan
Israel has thiers
Putin has his,
& nobody gives a fuck about UKRAINE people, cuz their 'leaders' are bought and paid for,...
Out of this mess, I hope some young guys with balls are reading ZH, and see that this battle could be the last, ... this is the fuck end-war here, if the USA wins we all lose, if PUTIN win's we get to fight another day.
*
But yes I pity the Ukranian people they just ants in a chess game, but the same could be said of the fuckheads in the USA, but here's the real deal.
The average guy in UKRAINE on the street, he knows he's a chess piece, but the average american, wouldn't even fucking know what your were talking about.
I want to puke when I hear horseface Kerry talk about self determination for Ukraine while the West is stirring the pro EU shit pot in that country.
If you pay close attention Tymoshenko is not exactly some saint either.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yulia_Tymoshenko
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25305254
If you read up on her she seems to be less of a pain in the ass to Russian interests than Yanukovych and more of an oligarch interested in consolidation of power than actually serving the interests of the Ukrainian people.
I am not saying Yanukovych is some saint either but he seems to give more of a shit about the Ukrainian people than she does.
Read up on the pipeline disputes on Tymoshenko's wikipedia page to see what I mean. Yanukovych seems to be more a pragmatist trying to play the middle ground if anything so the Ukraine has some control over it's own destiny and resources.
The west seems and their political correctness keep trumpeting Tymoshenko as a case of women's rights being abused when she is a female gas oligarch not some commoner princess of the people.
Yulia is manipulative criminal.
Orange "revolution" set Ukraine back 10 years.
"Stealing Popcorn" YouTube US Proscecutors tell about investigate gas stealing, money launder and offshore accounts.
Media never looks at Tymoshenko wealth cos she is needed for Orange 2.0
Ukraine is broke don't forget, verge of default !!!
All Ukraine assets and production blue chips are in the hands of a few, who put very little back into Ukraine, its all siphoned off for personal wealth acquisition and fancy lifestyles
Author, who is brainwashed by mainstream media and thinks Assad killed his own people and that issue with Iran about nuclear enrichment has no credibility.
Agreed. After reading that sentence I came straight to the comments.
Fanning Fires of Chaos in Ukraine: What is Real Price Starting Another Cold War?
2014-02-03
<pic> NWO Obama Pushing Rothschildism in Ukraine … Sen John McCain Meets With Soros in Davos …
In the late 1980s, the leaders of the west promised Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev that they would not expand eastward if the Soviet Union pulled out of Eastern Europe and ended the Cold War.
That promise was not kept. A triumphal West stuck it to the Soviet Union’s greatly weakened Russian successor, by incorporating the former Warsaw Pact countries into NATO and the EU. But that was not enough to sate the lust of the neo-liberal triumphalists in search of a new imperium.
Their next move tried to incorporate the Caucasus country of Georgia — a country more a part of Central Asia than of Europe — into the West’s sphere of influence. That turned out to be a bridge too far; the Russians intervened militarily to put a stop to the lunacy.
But events in the Ukraine suggest that stop may have been viewed as a temporary speed bump on the pathway to rolling back Russia’s geography to the years of Ivan the Terrible.
Ukraine may be descending into chaos, and some triumphalists in the west are again tempted to meddle and fan the fires of chaos and revolution, perhaps with a near-term aim of a partitioning the Ukraine along its historic Orthodox-Catholic fault line.
Seaumas Milne describes the chaotic state of play in Ukraine in this commentary in the Guardian. In so doing, Milne shows how the west is fueling revanchist fascism.
Note the familiar role being played again by meddlers like Nato Secretary General Anders Rasmussen and Senator John McCain. According to Milne, they are encouraging the rise of Ukraine’s nascent fascism and rising instability to roll back Russia’s influence among its immediate neighbors. But the Ukraine, like Georgia, is too close to home.
Ukraine is likely to prove another bridge too far that triggers a Russian reaction by the wily Mr. Putin (the man, who recently intervened to stop the US from going to war in Syria). But Putin’s reaction may well be portrayed as a reason to restart the Cold War with Russia.
Combine these efforts in the Ukraine with the ongoing push to start a Cold War with China (Obama’s Pacific pivot and the Navy-AF budget plan for the so-called Air-Sea Battle) and the halcyon years of ever rising defense budgets may be again in the political offing, triggered by yet another wave of Cold War hysteria. But this time, the MICC’s (Military-Industrial-Congressional-Complex) jumping off point will be from today’s far higher Defense budget.
This chart gives you an idea of the stakes. The figure compares the defense budget in current dollars to its portrayal in inflation-adjusted dollars, either by using GDP deflators or by using the Pentagon’s self-serving defense deflators.
Read on here.
Mr. Wood,
Mr. Wood is entirely correct. The US still has not learned the lesson of picking fights where you have a chance of winning. While it is proper to lend moral support to oppressed peoples and even help them via trade, commerce and humanitarian aide, it is another matter to interfere overtly. US policy regarding Taiwan is a good example of diplomacy, whereas Iraq and Afghanistan have so far proven costly with little to show. Ukraine would only bring anguish and open many sore wounds in Central Europe with a real possibility of another WW at a time when our resources are stretched in the Middle East and our economy in unchartered Debt experimental territory. The Alpha Neocon instinct in Wash. can get us into a real mess if not contained. Many Americans should think twice before embarking on a path of confrontation ----- unless you are prepared for real sacrifice such as high taxes to pay for military action, military draft, rationing of gas and food as well as giving up our own liberties. Better to lead by example rather then the sword which has two edges
Is it me or when articles like these are posted that contradict US foreign policy the usual contingent of blame the jooos for all the world's problems commenters come out of the woodworks to undermine the credibility of the articles and comment section in general to turn people away from digging in deeper to find the truth.
Someone explain to me how the joos having anything to do with undermining the Ukraine in a logical and rational fashion.
"What we want is that Industry should drain off the Land, both Labour and Capital, and by means of speculation transfer al the money of the world into our hands, and thereby throw all the goyim into the ranks of the ploretariat" The Goyim will bow down before us, if for no other reason but to get the right to exist."
@ DCH and others who may pose the similar questions,
to understand the underlying world's dire problems and why so many knowing minds simply point their fingers to "JOOS", I suggest you to peruse these great references. They explain who are the Puppet Masters and which labels and faces they're using and wearing at modern times (after WW II).
A brief answer to your question: try to set your mind that the Puppet Masters who are wearing the "JOOS" outfits (and amplified by their "JOOS" puppet state they created after WW II ) are striving to contain the Russia thru destabilization of Ukraine in order to prolong the dominance of their current Numero Uno Bogeymen. It's a logical thing that they love no competition...
I just see the traces and trails of the people of The Clans and their paid Lieutenants everywhere.
Following are some REFERENCE GUIDES to understand what seen as complex background!!

By DEAN HENDERSON
(Part One of a Five-part series)
The Four Horsemen of Banking (Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo) own the Four Horsemen of Oil (Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch/Shell, BP and Chevron Texaco); in tandem with Deutsche Bank, BNP, Barclays and other European old money behemoths. But their monopoly over the global economy does not end at the edge of the oil patch.
According to company 10K filings to the SEC, the Four Horsemen of Banking are among the top ten stock holders of virtually every Fortune 500 corporation.[1]
So who then are the stockholders in these money center banks?
This information is guarded much more closely. My queries to bank regulatory agencies regarding stock ownership in the top 25 US bank holding companies were given Freedom of Information Act status, before being denied on “national security” grounds. This is rather ironic, since many of the bank’s stockholders reside in Europe.
One important repository for the wealth of the global oligarchy that owns these bank holding companies is US Trust Corporation - founded in 1853 and now owned by Bank of America. A recent US Trust Corporate Director and Honorary Trustee was Walter Rothschild. Other directors included Daniel Davison of JP Morgan Chase, Richard Tucker of Exxon Mobil, Daniel Roberts of Citigroup and Marshall Schwartz of Morgan Stanley. [2]

(2) Tragedy and Hope: Professor Carroll Quigley
TRAGEDY AND HOPE: A HISTORY OF THE WORLD IN OUR TIME (1966) by CARROLL QUIGLEY
Somehow one of the most revealing books ever published slipped through the editorial of offices of one of the major publishing houses in New York and found it way into the bookstores of America in 1966.
Professor Quigley was an extraordinarily gifted historian and geo-political analyst. The insights and information contained in his massive study open the door to a true understanding of world history in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a work of exceptional scholarship and is truly a classic. The author should have received a Nobel Prize for his work.
In 1961 Carroll Quigley published "The Evolution of Civilizations". It was derived from a course he taught on world history at Georgetown University. "Quigley coupled enormous capacity for work with a peculiarly "scientific" approach. He believed that it should be possible to examine the data and draw conclusions. As a boy at the Boston Latin School, his academic interests were mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Yet during his senior year he was also associate editor of the Register, the oldest high school paper in the country. His articles were singled out for national awards by a national committee headed by George Gallup.
At Harvard, biochemistry was to be his major. But Harvard, expressing then a belief regarding a well-rounded education to which it has now returned, required a core curriculum including a course in the humanities. Quigley chose a history course, "Europe Since the Fall of Rome." Always a contrary man, he was graded at the top of his class in physics and calculus and drew a C in the history course. But the development of ideas began to assert its fascination for him, so he elected to major in history. He graduated magna cum laude as the top history student in his class.

Read also the short book by W. Cleon Skousen titled: "The Naked Capitalist," written as a commentary on a 1300 page tome by Dr. Carroll Quigley (Bill Clinton's mentor!) It will tell you all you need to know about how the current imperium was put on this path of inevitable destruction. When Quigley wrote the book in 1969 he felt safe in publishing it because he thought there was no turning back by then. Quigley died in 1977. From the way things are going, he may very well have been right.
Carroll Quigley's 'Tragedy and Hope: A History of The World in Our Time' and W. Cleon Skousen's 'The Naked Capitalist' plus few other Quigley's venerable, hard to find works, all in good quality now come in bundle.

I thought this was a terrible article. The US should stay out of the affairs of ALL other countries, Ukraine and Iran included.
"Iran obtaining nuclear weapons however, is a different story all-together. Here we have a state that has actively called repeatedly for the destruction of the state of Israel. Iran has recently used weapons of mass destruction via its vassal in Damascus against the Syrian opposition. We are on the brink of a major arms race and nuclear escalation in the Middle East."
Government shill. Change Iran to Saudi Arabia via Al CIAda on the weapons of mass destruction line and you have an accurate statement.
This article is completely biased. Why should America and the West have a say in the affairs of Ukraine and Russia cannot? Half of Ukraine has relatives in Russia and vice versa. Theres way more cultural/historical ties between Russia and Ukraine than arguably between any other two countries. Americas imperialistic agenda is to split Ukraine in half and put Nato troops in Western Ukraine, but they'll never take KIEV. The whole Euromajdan protest, is funded by the west and is full of neo-nazi radicals. I'm becoming a little dissapointed with the quality of articles being placed on zerohedge regarding Ukraine. As someone from Ukraine, (my homeland) this is really biased.
Ukraine has a chance to be "free" country, not Russian vassal. Russians must understand Ukraine is separate country, but blinded by imperealistic desires, they do not. You want Ukraine to be 'Russkoi okrainoy" forever? that what name Ukraine means.
Russian people do not have a chance to get out of fear and must obey despot goverment at least for now. I have a hope for the Ukraine to break the chains, even though it will get itself into EU chains, the smaller the evil the better. If that is to happen, Ukraine would be able to talk to Russia as a partner not as slave.
I'm from Ukraine and I view Ukraine and Russia as the same thing. Not a vassal, but as the same country and I believe they should be together as one country. A lot of Ukrainians feel that way. So stop dictating from the west that we are a vassal and should be free. A lot of people here want to be reunified into one country.
A lot of Ukrainians, including myself, would actually like to see the unification of Ukraine and Russia, and be one single unified nation again. Obviously, this is not what Western Ukraine wants, but they can split of and make Lviv their capital!
Dime-store author writing foreign policy?
We are definitely circling the toilette bowl, of course in this case he is very correct.
I nominate this for the worst article ever posted.
chopper pilot and bond trader................ foreign policy expert???????
hey a cab driver from the ukariane had the exact opposite opinion...
what would he know he only lived there adn got out when he could to excape the fate Putin has in mind for the ukraine...
West on one side, East on the other. Ukraine should choose East. EU "subsidies" (the dole) gets less the further towards China you get. (By law the "new" colonies of the UK)
