Farage Blasts "Bullying Brussels", Cheers Swiss Immigration Curbs Bill

Tyler Durden's picture

Switzerland's surprise decision in favor of curbing EU immigration, was greeted by UKIP's Nigel Farage as "wonderful news for national sovereignty and freedom lovers throughout Europe." With 50.3% of Swiss voters backing the "Stop Mass Immigration" bill proposed by right-wing populists, AFP reports that Farage (who has been outspoken over immigration and sovereignty problems in Europe) added "a wise and strong Switzerland has stood up to the bullying and threats of the unelected bureaucrats of Brussels." As we noted previously, with the EU elections rapidly approaching non-centrist status quo parties are quickly gaining attention as 'the protest vote' gains traction.

Via AFP,

The leader of Britain's main eurosceptic party hailed "wise" Swiss voters Sunday for backing curbs on EU immigration, saying it would encourage others across the continent.

Nigel Farage, the head of the UK Independence Party, said Switzerland had stood up to "bullying" from Brussels and that it was "not a matter of race but of space."

"This is wonderful news for national sovereignty and freedom lovers throughout Europe," said Farage, who is a member of the European parliament (MEP).

"A wise and strong Switzerland has stood up to the bullying and threats of the unelected bureaucrats of Brussels."

Final results from a referendum showed that 50.3 percent of Swiss voters had backed the "Stop Mass Immigration" proposal pushed by right-wing populists, threatening to ignite a row with Brussels.

UKIP has led calls for similar calls for a cap on immigration, a touchy issue in Britain since Bulgarians and Romanians were given full rights on January 1 to free movement within the European Union.

Farage added: "It is a great thing to be welcomed that the Swiss people now have the freedom to decide the number and skill level of the people who they wish to invite to work or stay in their country."

"It is not a matter of race but of space, of numbers and of skills," he said.

Of course this move is a blow for a Europe "run by big banks, big business, and big government" as Farage has described it in the past but we thoght this brief discussion from the UK (Boston, Lincolnshire) was useful in summing up the rising tensions from both the people and non-status-quo politicians looking for change...

It would seems to us that one 'event' that no one is discussing as a catalyst is the EU elections and here, from El Pais, is a very enlightening graphic showing the considerable growth in "Extreme Right" parties across the entire European region:

Whether, as Farage has warned in the past, we remain on the verge of social unrest is unclear but for sure this is not the poltical union that Barroso pitches it to have become...

Wrong, wrong and wrong!  I've lived in SoCal all my life.  The Mexicans may come up for the work, but they also come here for the free schools, which provide free breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner, free Food Stamps for their Anchor Babies.  Free Babysitting money, to the tune of over a $1,000 a month, via CALWORKS and a host of other free programs, including MediCAL, etc.  Each of their moron, third-world peasant non-english speaking kids, cost the Los Angeles Unified School District, nearly $13K a year.  Their typical family is 2.9 kids, so round it up to three and you have the Taxpayer, paying $39K a year for each family.  Take a look at the graduation rate too, it's pathetic.  Oh and they don't want to assimilate.  There are hosts of Spanish newspapers, radio and TV.  Everything is now bilingual, even in the announcements at the Home Improvement stores.

And what do we get out of it, besides cheap labor?  Overcrowding, crime, poverty, low graduation rates, a high demand for City and County Services.  Hey Leaf, go look at the LA County Budget.  Two Thirds or 66% of it, goes towards Health Services, Social Services and Police and Fire Protection.  Not for fixing potholes, taking care of the infrastructure, etc, but supporting a huge poverty-ridden population of fast breeding, low IQ, Service Workers.

Thanks for the downvote dickhead!  The truth, must piss you off.  You should come down here and see how crowded the roads and freeways are.  The norm now, is two to three families per house and there is no parking on the street period.  See for yourself, oh foolish one, or you can believe in your utopian liberal fantasy and be highly disappointed later on!

And the Mexicans hordes will conquer your conquered lands.

You can huff and puff in your schizoid reality how that is not fair, but fuck you,  the Free Fighters of Mexico have the right to attempt to outbreed you in your "conquered" lands, so that lands become Mexican lands.

And what does Mexico have to offer?  Isn't it one big gigantic shit hole of a country, awash with millions of peasants and only a handful of rich families?  Where corruption is the norm?   Of course, you'd like your children to go to a school, where the Cartels might've dropped off some severed heads in bags, by the gate?  Or maybe on the drive to work, see a few bodies swinging from the overpass?  You are a fucking idiot.  Why don't you either go back (dick) or assimilate, (dumbass), but I doubt you have the intelligence to do the later.  Che Guevera is probably your hero, but I'd bet, he'd shoot you dead, just for the fun of it.

PS: Don't feel bad that you're an inferior fuck, just deal with it.

We would prefer to dismantle the welfare state so we stop getting the shittiest type of people.  But that doesn't really seem to be in the cards, so closing the borders might be a good stopgap.

Also, the natives tried quite hard to stop the anglos.  They murdered them, stole their livestock, and kidnapped their children.  The result of such policy was extermination.  Sad, but hardly the fault of the settlers, much less people who happen to share their skin color a few hundred years later.

Your math works the other way too.  Only 24% voted against.  But that probably hurts your feelings, so maybe we shouldn't talk about that :(

There are virtually no "neoconservatives" here - this tells me you don't know what the term means.

Ditto for neonazis, who are far closer to the neoconservative movement than the average American patriot or nationlist.

No, the Swiss, after allowiing massive immigration for years and years into their small country, decided to put curbs on it, finally, as is their right.

In essence, you think that white European countries should let in every immigrant who wants to get there or it's "neonazism".  apart from raping the English language, such an assessment is absurd, and actually based on hate of Europeans.

It is very easy to be generous with the property of another... very easy to tell another people that they have no right to preserve their identity as a people.

You're not only a dumb fuck, my man, you're actually at heart a racist.

I lived in Australia for a few years and multiculturalism is a bad joke.People form into ghettos, insular, refusing assimilation. The elderly refuse to learn the new language, and the young seem to yearn to return to the homelands to carry a rifle (Bosnia,Lebanon).

Aside from the odd ethnic pride parades, all those billions have been wasted.Everyone sees that clearly now.Just Google the police prescence at some of the ethnic soccer games in Melbourne or Sydney. They hate each-other before the games. After the whistle they want to kill each-other.There is your cross-cultural understanding.....

The "handouts" are controlled (largely) at the local level, the parasite looters are known by sight and name, and their handouts (which can include both unattractive strings and shame) are paid by their own neighbors so we have to vote to raise our own taxes or cut our own benefits (my town has about 2,000 people). Also Swiss citizenship isn't a birthright based on geography, and if you aren't a citizen and you want be one, you have a find a town whose people will offer you citizenship (as opposed to non-voting residence/asylum).

(Which explains why the freeloaders and criminals congregate in the major cities of Geneva and Zurich)

Sometimes the "extreme right" is actually right.

This is one of those times.

No nation, not even European ones, are obligated to become minorities in their own homelands in order to avoid being called racists and xenophobes by people, often not even of that nation, who are motivated, precisely, by the destruction of that national homeland, often while claiming that their nation and culture have the right to self-preservation.

The average person, not being a gifted thinker, tends to think in binaries - left/right, dem/gop, and multiculturalism/racist.

These are false dilemmas.  One does not to have to hate foreigners, or reject controlled immigration to be against open borders {particularly in welfare states} and those who keep presenting this false dilemma are either stupid, or being deliberately deceptive.

The notion that the open borders crowd is doing it out of love for humanity is lamentably naive.  Such people, often privileged, see human beings as chattel - cheap labor, government dependents, and cannon fodder for the next profitable war.

While the SVP is a regional party, it is the largest party in the Swiss federal legislature, so wile it may be right wing (and more right wing than I like) it is NOT extremist, it is mainstream Swiss.

this is moronic:

"This is wonderful news for national sovereignty and freedom lovers throughout Europe,"

Farage is a populist cheering another brick in the road to serfdom. I really fail to see how curbing free flow of free people will do enything good for freedom. immigration control just like capital controls are totalitarian tools used to keep population in check without fixing real issues. why don't they cancel the peg? EU immigrants wouldn't have much to look for in Switzerland.

immigration was the cornerstone of US, Australia and many other lands that used to endorse freedom. it helps economies where local benefits-fed population doesn't really feel like working. but when benefits pool shrinks, immigrants are first to be blamed for troubles. "oh no sir, it wasn't socialism, it was immigrants who steal our jobs! jobs that we didn't actually want to do anyway.."

Switzerland is a blatant currency manipulator with 2% youth unemp. compare it to Spanish 55% youth unemp. surely Switzerland is better managed fiscally and aconomically but this result is primarily won by constant devaluation and thus "stealing" competetivness from others by means of monetary tricks. since Germans won't allow Spaniards to fight back with printers, young ppl flock to Switzerland for the jobs that they "stole" them. and now The Swiss blame them!

Perhaps you should look at a historical chart of unemployment in Switzerland. A 100 year chart would take you back to the founding of the US Fed in 1913, or you could go back to the founding of SNB in 1907 (and the basis of the Adlrich Report), or the introduction of the Swiss Franc in 1850, or the end of the last civil war in 1847. It's a pretty fucking flat and boring line. In fact- the 100 year average of the unemployment rate in Switzerland is under 4%, despite the fluctuation of the CHF.

Go blame yourself or local kleptomaniac for losing your jobs, but don't come looking for them in Switzerland because it didn't "magically" move here, otherwise there would be negative unemployment.

Governments across the world are trying to destroy the middle classes by opening their doors to immigrants.   They flood in putting downward pressure on wages and overwhelming social programs.

The end game is that third world living is coming to the first world.

Okay; I have read all 4 pages of opinions and they range from Deragned to Brilliant.

The Tree is a Troll; but the troll often has a point that is obvious; hence the reason he draws such hatrated and vitriol attacks. He keep saying the mexicans are taking over. Listen Leaf of Tree the Minorties in the country combined are the Majority now. That stament alone should; make all wonder. Then how come it aint working? How come they just can't get it through?  Hmmm. Maybe they don't want to be over ran either lol.  That's the real truth of the matter; you can take that to the bank.

Glad you can see the subtleties in some of my comments.

The true spirit of ZeroHedge is lost if everyone agrees with the likes of JackBurton-I'm-in-love-with-Putin and his crowd.

Or the dumb moronz shouting "gold bitchezz" or "bitcoinz for ze geekzz".

With the new owners ZeroHedge goes to shit and it will only attract racist fucks who need to vent their frustrations online, because telling it face to face to Jose that just moved down the street is way too dangerous.

I agree man that things will attract the most vitriol of the bunch. I can't take reading infowars dot com comments any longer; they have some of the most hateful people in the world now on there forums. I hate to say it; but they are going to introduce this net id thing because of these people. If they would just police these people; and stop letting them live in anarchy it would be alright.

About 30% of the people can't rule themselves at this damn stage of development/evolution. They need policing! I learned this in the Military the hard way, When I was assigned Master at Arms in bootcamp.

I thought that were all adults and everything should be fine. Hell no, it don't work that way; after getting my ass handed to me by the Company Commander a few times because of my fellow recruits; I started policing there azzes. It worked, most of the BS stopped. I learned that if you let the 30% get out of hand; they quickly gain followers on there rein of terror.

Much of the third world immigration into the US is planned as future divide and conquer. Diversity is our strength ya..... In Minnesota, the Lutheran Brotherhood orchestrated an invasion of 50,000 to 60,000 Somali's.

In the past you were the ones doing the divide-et-impera to the native americans.

Now it is done to your white asses.

Can't handle it? And what is wrong with some competition at McDonald's or Dell?

Who is stopping your fat asses to become great engineers and conquer the galaxy and discover new shit that will greatly improve your capitalistic system?

Why so fearful of that mexican mechanic that got you fired and only takes home 25k a year, instead of your 45k? Thought your job was for life??

Congratulations to the Swiss for fighting for their own sovereignty and for giving the finger to the industrialists who want to pit workers against workers to drive down wages.

Calling this a "Right Wing" issue is the same tactic being used by some to smear the Ukrainian protest movement against the Pro-Putin current Ukranian President Viktor Yanukovych.

This is populist.  This is not fascist.  Calling it right wing or fascist is to say that all movements that look to the benefit of the national constituency is somehow a movement that wishes to deny individual liberties.  Not so.

But the lies will go on as the funders of such have an unlimmited budget.
