The Drugging Of America Summarized In 19 Mind-Altering Facts

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The American Dream blog,

The American people are the most drugged people in the history of the planet.  Illegal drugs get most of the headlines, but the truth is that the number of Americans that are addicted to legal drugs is far greater than the number of Americans that are addicted to illegal drugs.  As you will see below, close to 70 percent of all Americans are currently on at least one prescription drug.  In addition, there are 60 million Americans that “abuse alcohol” and 22 million Americans that use illegal drugs.  What that means is that almost everyone that you meet is going to be on something.  That sounds absolutely crazy but it is true.

We are literally being drugged out of our minds.  In fact, as you will read about below, there are 70 million Americans that are taking “mind-altering drugs” right now.  If it seems like most people cannot think clearly these days, it is because they can’t.  We love our legal drugs and it is getting worse with each passing year.  And considering the fact that big corporations are making tens of billions of dollars peddling their drugs to the rest of us, don’t expect things to change any time soon.  The following are 19 statistics about the drugging of America that are almost too crazy to believe…

#1 An astounding 70 million Americans are taking legal mind-altering drugs right now.

#2 According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, doctors wrote more than 250 million prescriptions for antidepressants during 2010.

#3 According to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, nearly 70 percent of all Americans are on at least one prescription drug.  An astounding 20 percent of all Americans are on at least five prescription drugs.

#4 Americans spent more than 280 billion dollars on prescription drugs during 2013.

#5 According to the CDC, approximately 9 out of every 10 Americans that are at least 60 years old say that they have taken at least one prescription drug within the last month.

#6 There are 60 million Americans that “abuse alcohol”.

#7 According to the Department of Health and Human Services, 22 million Americans use illegal drugs.

#8 Incredibly, more than 11 percent of all Americans that are 12 years of age or older admit that they have driven home under the influence of alcohol at least once during the past year.

#9 According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is an unintentional drug overdose death in the United States every 19 minutes.

#10 In the United States today, prescription painkillers kill more Americans than heroin and cocaine combined.

#11 According to the CDC, approximately three quarters of a million people a year are rushed to emergency rooms in the United States because of adverse reactions to pharmaceutical drugs.

#12 According to Alternet, “11 of the 12 new-to-market drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration were priced above $100,000 per-patient per-year” in 2012.

#13 The percentage of women taking antidepressants in America is higher than in any other country in the world.

#14 Many of these antidepressants contain warnings that “suicidal thoughts” are one of the side effects that should be expected.  The suicide rate for Americans between the ages of 35 and 64 rose by close to 30 percent between 1999 and 2010.  The number of Americans that are killed by suicide now exceeds the number of Americans that die as a result of car accidents every year.

#15 In 2010, the average teen in the United States was taking 1.2 central nervous system drugs.  Those are the kinds of drugs which treat conditions such as ADHD and depression.

#16 Children in the United States are three times more likely to be prescribed antidepressants as children in Europe are.

#17 A shocking Government Accountability Office report discovered that approximately one-third of all foster children in the United States are on at least one psychiatric drug.

#18 A survey conducted for the National Institute on Drug Abuse found that more than 15 percent of all U.S. high school seniors abuse prescription drugs.

#19 It turns out that dealing drugs is extremely profitable.  The 11 largest pharmaceutical companies combined to rake in approximately $85,000,000,000 in profits in 2012.

In America today, doctors are trained that there are just two potential solutions to any problem.  Either you prescribe a pill or you cut someone open.  Surgery and drugs are pretty much the only alternatives they offer us.

And an endless barrage of television commercials have trained all of us to think that there is a “pill for every problem”.

Are you in pain?

Just take a pill.

Are you feeling blue?

Just take a pill.

Do you need a spark in your marriage?

Just take a pill.

And most Americans assume that all of these pills are perfectly safe.

After all, the government would never approve something that wasn’t safe, right?

Sadly, what most Americans don’t realize is that there is a revolving door between big pharmaceutical corporations and the government agencies that supposedly “regulate” them.  Many of those that are now in charge of our “safety” have spent their entire careers peddling legal drugs to all of us.

We have become a nation of drugged out zombies, and it is all perfectly legal.  The funny thing is that many of these “legal drugs” have just slightly different formulations from their “illegal” counterparts.

If more Americans understood what they were actually taking, would that cause them to stop?

Perhaps some would, but for the most part Americans are totally in love with their drugs and giving them up would not be easy.

Just ask anyone that has tried.

Putting aside the fact that voting is a waste of time in the current environment, I find it amusing that people still feel the need to 'blame' Obama voters. As if any other 'choice' would have been better. All roads lead to misery, voting is just us selecting our transportation.

So please stop blaming people. If the Bush/Florida, Obama/dead voter thing has taught you anything, it should be that there is a fucking script. And they are going to follow it. No matter what.

Check out the magical anti-addictive abilities of ibogaine.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibogaine  The simple fact that ibogaine is illegal implies a vast, conspiratorial war on human consciousness.  One can only conclude that:

-They want people addicted, because it brings misery, crime, dependency, and wrecked families.  All of these things lead to a desire for stronger government.

-It is best to have people addicted to something that is profitable to the NWO.  Think pills, CIA smack, CIA crack, and booze (which is indirectly profitable because it helps people not think about why their jobs suck).  Health problems and private prisons are also profitable to NWO cartels.

-All the NWO drugs will teach you nothing.  This isn't a coincidence.

-Psychedelics are illegal because they reveal deeper truths which the puppetmasters would rather keep hidden.  This goes for ibogaine too.  It's a bit like a heavy acid trip.

Alcohol was illegal in the 1920s and people were so bored that sitting on flagpoles became a common activity. Do you really want to go back to the drug free days of sitting on flag poles or wanting to die so badly that people would stand in line to join wars?

There's a new speed-like drug that is being marketed to financial types and others with high stress, performance oriented jobs that put in long hours. It's called NuVigil and I have been hearing ads for it on the radio when they have finacial programs airing. The wife of a friend who has a script for NuVigil and is currently getting another college degree claims it has most of the advantages of speed but you can eat and sleep fairly normally. I pointed out to my friend that his wife, who has gradually become a psycopath with sudden and unpredictable outbursts of uncalled for bitchiness, might need to discuss her anger management problems with the doctor who prescribed NuVigil. He said "good luck trying to get her off that crap".

I'm a paramedic as some of you know.

By far the biggest bunch of dopers on the planet are the elderly.  Every single fat woman I pick up is on fentanyl, oxycodone, oxycontin, xanax, and a host of other heroin/morphine narcotic derivatives.  Old people are the generation that do whatever the doctor tells them.  Americans are also impatient and lazy and want pills to fix their problems.  They're not happy if they pay a copay and leave the doctor without a prescription.  doctors get huge incentives to write prescriptions.  Gov't pays for the prescriptions goes straight to big pharma.  shit's all fucked up.  But we got this guy, named "Not Sure"

Yes, Mrs. Cog, and, as you probably know, the same sources of major funding of those mainstream schools have been working for more than a Century to deliberately produce the resulting distortions.

What happened to hemp is the most extreme example of what you described. It was as if there were some kind of time and space warps that took effect after the criminalization of cannabis. All public sources and displays regarding the knowledge of that herb were systematically perverted. Old textbooks, written before the criminalization, even allowing for how obsolete and old-fashioned their level of knowledge of plants in general was back then, are still often better than any textbooks written after the insane huge lies, backed up with coercions, took control of our culture, and manifested their expression throughout almost every kind of public discussion or display of the pot plant.

THE SAME PATTERN APPLIES EVERYWHERE ELSE! The political processes allowed the profit from fraud to be partially reinvested in more frauds, causing runway systems in a society almost totally dominated by frauds. The people making the most money from their lies were able to systematically direct how civilization developed. Follow the money to its SOURCE!

Hemp is being allowed, as is marijuana. A little here, a little there. Things are changing. It is normal for change to be slow and to only appear in widely dispersed areas. Eg. Hemp growing in Germany. Smoking Marijuana in ACT, Australia and California. I by no means think things are going backwards or following old trends of prohibition and nonsensical legislation.

Sun, 02/16/2014 - 21:59 | 4443663 Radical Marijuana
Radical Marijuana's picture

Yes, 15horses1donkey, marijuana appears to be headed towards being "legalized" (in the worst possible ways) while growing hemp is now something that the individual states can, sort of, allow to be done. The problem is NONE of that is being done on the basis of more radical Hemp Truth, only ONLY being done on the basis of bad compromises with all the same old-fashioned lies.

The same social pyramid system that was able to completely criminalize cannabis cultivation on the basis of nothing but huge lies is gradually being forced by changing political opinions to allow some return of the potential of the pot plant. However, that is actually happening in ways which are too little, too late, and too trivial to matter.

I tend to dispise the mainstream marijuana movements, because they regard it as politically practical to compromise with the old lies, rather than assert more radical truth. It is the fundamental structure of the social pyramid systems that is the PROBLEM. All of the other issues were merely symbolic symptoms of the root cause, which was the ways that the death controls operated through the maximum possible deceits, which backed up the debt controls operating through the maximum possible frauds.

The only genuine solutions would require more radical truths, on deeper and deeper levels, to understand how and why some drugs were criminalized in the first place. Those more radical truth require understanding how the combined money/murder systems operated, and why there must necessarily be some money/murder systems.

The established money/murder systems operated on the basis of the maximum possible frauds and deceits, and it was within those established systems that the war on (some) drugs got started, as yet another war based on deceits, designed to advance the overall debt slavery systems. Legalizing drugs which does not address those deeper problems is to put another bandage cosmetically over a probably fatal illness.

Actually, as far as I can tell, our society is terminally sick and insane, and therefore, I doubt that there will be any recovery in my life time. However, nothing less than radical truth has a chance for amelioration. Any other kind of practical "legalization" of marijuana, or again allowing farmers to cultivate hemp, is going to still be too little, too late, and too trivial to matter, as long as the basis for that are compromises with the huge lies that were the basis of those laws in the first place!

That is the same as one aspect of the bigger picture, that NOTHING can enable any economic recovery, as long as the privatized fiat money, made out of nothing, as debts, system is the foundation of everything else. The real problem is WAY BIGGER than any superficial solutions, and any such "solutions" are necessarily too little, too late, and too trivial to matter.

there was a day when herbals were understood to have many side effects, science purified herbals to reduce side effects, improve wanted effects and avoid contaminents,, but some how Herbals are now safer and more effective than quality medications (mislabeling and outright fraud as to contents) becomes an issue. buy your herbals from those you trust and good luck getting what you paid for. ANY agent that effects the human system if taken wrongly is a poison, nothing is safe, when used unsafely..even the herbals, who's source and verification are many times dubius. many herbals are mislabled, and adulterated ..useless or worse true poisons.

Since the system is largely trying to downplay or ignore such old-school pagan ideas as natural medicine, there is no author-ity to tell us what to take when or how much. It requires caution, some research, a bit of experimentation and the will to learn. Most of all, it calls for lots of common sense.

Try Mountain rose herbs. Excellent source of organic herbs. As for your comment, science purified herbals- that is complete and utter bullshit. Science has done nothing but work to belittle and create paranoia concernng botanicals. Science is the idiot riding the wave of monopoly and ignorance. Science has concentrated components in dangerous amounts which the body is not accustomed to processing. This is why vitamins are useless.

Of course, you need to understand the effects of any botanical, that is what herbalism is for, to produce appropriate dosage tables and extract regimes. This information is available as are well educated practitioners.

You can also GROW your own botanicals. A sampling of about 35 different herbs will resolve almost any ailment. See, "The Backyard Herbalist".

~25 yrs back I contracted a mosquito born virus on a rainforest trip and got very ill, but was slowly recovering and my hot jewish girlfriend gets me a herbal remedy due to the intense pain I'm still in. So goes to a Chinese herbalist and buys Gin-Sing. I regarded it wearily and didn't want to use it and didn't for a week. I don't like using anything like that or prescriptions, or illegal drugs. But I was a lead guitarist on weekends and had this gig so when I got home my hands killed, so tried the herbal remedy with a coffee, in the recommended amount. 30 mins later I'm in hospital and feeling quite close to death. I suffered mind-blowing levels of sensory overload. I could hear a basket-ball bouncing half a mile away at a basket ball court, no one else could hear anything. These were not audio hallucinations, I was really hearing lots of normal sounds, but from a long way off, and clear as a bell, lots of them, and all at once. Whatever function in the body the limits and filters sensitivity of senses had stopped working and every sense was set to '11'.

I understand people won't believe that, but that's what occurred. I was going out of my mind from all the sensory input. Of course I didn't take any more of it, I showed the brown gin-sing powder to a doctor and left it with him. But my ears rang every day since then. 4 days later I'm on the cardio bed shaking uncontrollably and convulsing (no heart attack but severe chest pain) due to the very same symptoms which the one use of gin-sing triggered.

All my senses had gone of the scale again and it was impossible to take things in and cope. The sound of the old fridge clicking on was horrific and just the vibration alone I was feeling from the aircon's engine was too much to bear. All I could do was stay in a quiet dark room. It took about two weeks before I was sure I was going to be OK. My girlfriend was of course mortified, she confronted the Chinese herbalist and wanted an explanation, and none was forthcoming. There are no warnings, there are no guarantees, there are risks, and there is no upside if it goes bad. If you are sensitive to drugs or don't like taking stuff then don't, getting permanent tinnitus from that was something I could have done without. And the most annoying part was the pain from the virus lasted for months and came back several times even after that. Some mosquito viruses just take you down hard.

Your story is a useful one, in terms of what you should NEVER do. I'm sorry to hear you had this problem and without more information, it is impossible to resolve. Still, you never let someone else get you medicine. The herbalist should have required that they see you personally. If for no other reason than to do pulse and tongue analysis and discuss your original complaint.

Two, know your source for herbs. Because of ginseng's high value, it is often sold in adultered forms.

Three, even herbs have to be checked for counterindications.

Finally, would you just take any pill someone handed you?

While I have never heard of ginseng causing any of the problems you suffered, I have heard of poisons causing them. Fairly certain, that is the cause of your problems. If you played rock guitar, tinnitus is to be expected.

Lastly, there are no guarantees with pharmaceuticals either, just the possibilty of suing them for damage already done.

Yeah, many times I said to my girlfriend that she worried me taking Chinese pills that she could not even read what was on the bottle and getting them via the same herbalist and them arriving in the mail. Being from a geo background I was pretty skeptical but she was reading books about it as an interest. I thought it was all a bit dicey.

Would I take a pill someone gave me? No, though my girlfriend had studied medicine a few years and was keen for me to try it. Yup, I should have refused, but I knew she would be disappointed. You know how it goes.

It was rock guitar though I had zero issues until that day and good hearing now otherwise.

Poison did cross my mind especially when it came back even worse than the initial effect. In the end good hits of diazepam eased the convulsive shakes and got me over the worst. I had the impression of what must occur to an insect if spayed with pesticide. Can you say what sort of poison might do that and make the senses go off the scale?

btw, thanks for that reply.

The drug situation is the most personal, and overall, the aspect that causes the most individual suffering, because the triumph of the distortions of the Profit from Disease Systems, and Profit from Junk Food Systems causes the most intimate personal suffering, in the worst ways, for the most people. This situation regarding "drugs" in America was the result of the application of what this recent article said:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-02-15/guest-post-merger-state-and-com...

The Merger Of State And Commerce

"The ultimate overarching rigged system in the US is the effective monopoly by two private political cartels sharing the same basic agenda, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.  As a consequence of these two faces of modern fascism, the nation and its liberty has been for sale for more than two generations now."

Almost all of the successful and surviving politicians have become the banksters' puppets. Each short-term increment of the triumph of controlling society with frauds backed by force became a feedback that overall drove that society to become increasingly insane. More and more, people live in a Bizarro Mirror World, where there is an inverse correlation that the drugs which are treated as being the most illegal tend to be some of the best drugs, while the drugs that are treated as being the most legal are some of the worst drugs. That was NOT "an accident!" America was the society in which controlling people with lies backed by violence was raised to become the most scientific that it could be. However, the paradoxical result is then the final failure from too much success at controlling society that way.

Wheat is a:drug. Its digestion produces peptides that stimulate the same receptors that opiates do. Most of the calories it provides represent a quick blood sugar bomb, providing, gram per gram, more glucose to the blood stream than table sugar. It is very cheap to produce. It is versatile. It stores very well.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, two-hundred and ninety people in the United States are killed by prescription drugs every day."

So, simplistically I know, 400,000 people are killed by smoking cigarettes, and 783,936 killed by doctors, so going to a doctor is twice as dangerous as smoking cigarettes.

Narcotic prescription overdose is a leading cause, but just plain doctor fuck-ups are right there near the top too.

You want to know whats a drug? Sugar. Yes, plain old white sugar. That is in just about any food you can find: Cereal, deserts, BBQ sauce, soft dinks, etc. Let me tell you something from personal experience. You stop eating 95% of things that contain either sugar and/or white flour (a real bad combination) and you will solve most of your health issues incl. obesity. Yes, its that freakin simple. No need to buy exercise machines, join a club and so forth. Although there are added benefits to doing that. Sweden in the only country who's government officially endorses a low carb life style. You should think about that. The AMA and the American Diabetes Foundation are in collusion with the food manufacturers by promoting blatently unhealthy blood sugar levels as the actual good levels can never be attained without cutting the carbs! The food pyramid is a joke! First they make us fat then they sell us the meds that combat diseases caused by obesity but nobody dares mess with the sugar lobby.

I know it ain't good fer ya (weed is WAY better for you, even if smoked), but honestly - I've averaged a little over a litre of wine a day for five years (sometimes more, sometimes less, for extended periods) and I can maintain 3 sets of 15 bodyweight dips (bodyweight is ~220lb) and a VO2Max of 47 (as measured by a Cooper run-test) at the age of 49. My "bloods" (liver & kidney function etc) are in ranges that are good for healthy folks half my age.

I can't do many chinups, so maybe that's down to the Demon Drink - although my gym buddies give me little lectures in BroScience, telling me it's because I'm vegetarian. (Maybe the veggie-ness offsets the booze).

Maybe they mean that folks tell their alcohol to go fuck itself. They need to change brands.

I can say this much about the antibiotic Ciprofloxacin.  This doctor I had never been to before(because I never got to any doctors and it had been 16 years) prescribed it and and that I would need at least will need at least two weeks worth.  I was in pain to begin with and have been for some time.  It was not that bad of pain though.  So I started taking that crap and maybe a few of you recall me bitching about on Thursday.  By Thursday night I was down for the count.  I had quit taking the pills despite instructons of not stopping the dose without consulting a physician.  I think these doctors are just guessing anyway and I have been to two of them

Mrs. M asked what was the matter with me because I had not been drinking any alchohol for days.  That's when she said I need to use probiotics to counteract the anti-biotics.  No woman, I need a lot of water to drink to get this garbage out of me.  I do not know about you guys but if I don't take a shower for two I usually start to smell quite male.  Nope, Cypro killed off all of the good bacteria.

Cipro is a mind altering drug all-right.  It forces you to think about whether you are going to vomit or shit your guts out instead of sleeping.  I must have drank two five gallon pails of water over the last 48 hours.  I finally got some sleep and slept right through the US-Russia hockey game.  That was a big sportsing deal to me.

I'm feeling better finally but now, I missed it and Russia is bitching about their goal disallowed goal.  Mrs. M will not talk to me even like it was all my fault.  I didn't even see the play live.  I've tried looking for that series of plays on the zone play.  I have been to a lot of hockey games but I have never seen a goalie kick the post before.  If he did kick it off it is because it is someone ran the goalie through the crease.  I have read some Canadian sites and they are saying that the rubber plugs had something to do with it in that those plugs were too small.

We can just end the speculation right here though.  The score was tied at the end of the game.  Another 5 minutes was played with no scoring and a shootoff occurred.  Looks to me like some kid came to Warroad, Minnesota to learn how to play hockey when he was young, ended up playing collegiate at ND, and got drafted.  I told Mrs. M that Team Russia would end up having to deal with Minnesota and it is far from over.  Nice work by Quick though too.
