Russian Ships Carrying Soldiers Said To Be En Route To Sevastopol

Tyler Durden's picture

Those tracking the developments in the Ukraine, and specifically the Russian response to this weekend's coup, will be interested to note that according to the Russian flot.com website, the large landing ship Nikolai Filchenkov, previously known for its participation in the Syrian naval arms build up, is expected to arrive in the Crimean port of Sevastopol carrying 200 armed soldiers, sent from the nearby Black Sea town of Temryuk.

From Flot.com

Today at 12:00 from the Russian port of Temryuk should arrive in Sevastopol, the large landing ship "Nikolai Fil'chenkov" with 200 soldiers on board. This was reported today by the chairman of the Ukraine "Freedom" faction Oleg Tyagnibok citing sources in the Crimean.

"I can show you the text message" - said Tyahnibok and read: "Today at 12:00 is expected the arrival from the port of Temryuk in the Russian Federation in the city of Sevastopol large landing ship Nikolai Fil'chenkov from the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation. It will bring about 200 armed soldiers from the 328th Marine battalion, who are based in Temryuk and 10 BTR-80."

He also noted that "on February 22-23, ... IL-76 flights airlifted from Kubinka (Moscow region) to Anapa, personnel from the 45th Airborne Special Forces unit and additional divisions were relocated via four Il-76 flights from Pskov to Anapa. And from Sochi to Anapa were transported six Mi-8 helicopsters"- said Tyahnibok.

This appears to not be an isolated move as the naval build up seems to be escalating. In a concurrent release, Izvestia Kiev reported that out of Kubinka, four ships carrying special forces, are being relocated to Anapa. From there, in four hours, they will depart fo Sevastopol at a speed of 10-15 knots, citing "Izvestia in Ukraine" as a source.  According to the source, the redeployment is "qualitative, not quantitative" and that the Ukraine is following these developments.

It remains to be seen if the Ukraine, or its brand new NATO BFFs, will respond in kind.

“Treating masked men armed with Kalashnikov rifles, who are now circling Kiev, as a government – we would find it difficult working with such a government.”

Agree, and also agree should these be masked men carrying AR-15's, circling your house, and wearing uniforms that say "police".

Sevastopol is where the allied British, French and Ottoman landed their troups and set siege during the Crimean War of the 1850s. Remember the famous and idiotic change of the light brigade at Balaklava? Though ostensibly about protecting the holy land's access to Christians (Catholic French versus Russian Orthodox), one of the objectives at that time was to halt the spread of Russian influence and deny them a warm water port. This conflict has been going on for a very long time.

Indeed! In the long historical run, the west has dreamed of pushing Russia back off of the shores of the Black Sea. Britain in particular, now the USA. Of course Russia defeated the Turks to take this coast. So Turks want them out as bad as anyone. World War One saw Turkey and Russia fight heavily over Black Sea. Russia used naval forces to shppt up Turkish coal shipping and coal loading ports. Turkey bombared Savastopol to start the war, using a German Battle Cruiser.

One thing I know for 100%, Sevastopol has large and heavily armed defenses on shore, and some special undersea tricks as well.

Now I won't argue that point, and Assad is a ruthless dictator, but someone please tell me again just what McStain was doing when he was shot down over North Vietnam?

Yes! Large land army. Traditional force structure for ex soviet Army. Navy too, but not so large, mostly ex soviet warships, many based on Svastopol. Both Russian and Ukrainian navies are centered on Sevastopol. This could be interesting, but not all Ukrainian military are pro Western, or from west Ukraine, very many are ethnic Russians, or pro Russia. So Ukranian military has a big problem internally.

Russia has natural resources, computer programmers and their factories are getting better rapidly.  They are building a variety of cars for Euopean and Asian car companies and the quality is good.

Russian Threat Of War Over Ukraine Stuns Obama Regime

Bullshit they're stunned.

The East of Ukraine and the Crimea were never going to roll over for the NWO coup.  The question is what will the US/NATO do to prevent democracy and self-determination in the eastern and southern parts of ukraine that want to go their own way.

This is the correct way to look at the matter...  the US/NATO has been meddling and playing offense here.  The've fomented protests using far right wingers, and now they have 2 problems.

1] the upcoming secession of East Ukraine and the request by them for Russian troops

2] Many of the protesters in the west of ukraine will resume protests once they figure out they're being sold down the river by the usual suspects... only a minority will be the same far right wingers, but all of these secondary protests  will be smeared as terrorists, nazis, right wing, etc. etc.

Mark my words...  since Western Ukraine might not be able to handle a serious secondary uprising Obama et al will have to find a way to get NATO troops in.

Guaranteed advanced troops, combat control, CIA specials, are already there.

Secondary revolutions/protests have happened a lot lately.

The hypocrisy and warmongering of the Obama regime is boundless.    You can count on the MSM to frame this  as more or less the exact opposite of what's actually happened - the aggressor playing the role of victim or 'advocate for democracy' could only work this well on a dumbed-down, brainwashed population with a fairly tightly controlled media.

If Ukraine turns decisively West, it may well find that it is forced to leave Crimea behind.

Putin Orders Troops To Crimea Passes, Warns NATO Of War Will Putin Seize Crimea? The battle for Kiev may well be over, but is the battle for Crimea about to begin?

"Things that go bump", Yes indeed, that is an interesting question. The USA/NATO have been on a roll lately. They find it easy to help locals revolt, as governments in most of these places are corrupt beyond words. Syria, Ukraine for two. I have kept up a bit on Ukraine developments over the last decade. And it is a sad tale, the only people more corrupt that the former Ukraine leaders was the government before them. They were so bad this last government defeated them in a fair open election, the EU sanctioned that result.

Ukraine is a hopeless case of corruption, greed and oligarcy. Normal people across Ukraine are fed up. But they are not united by any means. The divide is historic, you can read about it 500-400-300 years ago, and it exists still today.

Ukraine is a basket case, and they are caught between Germany on the march East. They invaded Ukraine in 1918 and in 1941, both times defeated and forced out. Germany is most intersted in Ukraine for economic purposes, they would like to manage it with their corporations. But the broader NATO and USA want it for purposes of NATO march to the east. Miltiarily NATO craves to hold all of Ukraine. We all know historically Russia will fight over Ukraine. Crimea, for certain, if the revolutionary government in Ukraine attempts to enter Crimea, it will be attacked and defeated. They know as much.

East Ukraine will not accept the new Ukrainan governement. Civil war would break out if the revolutionary government heads east.

One last time I will say what I think is best, it is only my opnion. So try and stay rational!

East and South Ukraine should petition to join the Russian Federation. Crimea as well. West Ukraine should join the EU, join NATO and coopertate with transition to German management of their economy. They obviously can't do it by themselves. And German corporations have wanted in for a long time. If you really want peace, then this is your best bet. If you want war, then admit it.

Those damn NAZIS only lost Germany in '45 and moved to the US & other parts of Europe.

What is our National Security reason to undermine Ukraine with neo-nazis and hooligans?

None.

From Libya onwards, this country is a captured operation. I do not know who, exactly, but Americans are going to be in for a holocaust of our own if we do not man up and kick these scumbags out!

This reminds me of Hitler suborning revolution in Czechoslovakia, arming NAZIs in the Sudetenland, then forcing Benes to concede power to Germany. It is the same game plan. America is NOT run by Americans anymore, and people had better wake the fuck up before Bath House unleashes the Department of Homo Security and its 3 zillion rounds of ammo on joe dude. Screw it. I am sleeping with Two Pistols tonight. We are in the freaking twilight zone, like some evil, demon force has taken over our country.

Encouraging or helping local/regional revolts along is not necessarily going to give them the results they desire, I don't care what their calculations and models say. It is equally likely to have an end result even more inimical to their interests such as what happened after the coup that ousted the legally elected Mohammad Mosaddeq and brought the Pahlavi Shah to power. The Shah, of course, was everything they wished, but the Iranians managed to get rid of him and everything they wanted has been out of their reach ever since. Are they going all in because they have nothing in hopes that any shake up is to their benefit?

I don't think the EU wants Ukraine, now that the numbers are showing up.  They didn't think it through.  There are probably EU regulations that guarantee citizens get heat in winter.  The EU will wind up paying that gas bill.

It was never about the EU, it's financed by the US anyway, this is an age old dispute between two nations, Ukraine and Russia.  Plus they will never forgive Stalin and the commies:

"In the early 1930s, to force peasants into joining collective farms, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin orchestrated a famine that resulted in the starvation and death of millions of Ukrainians. Afterward, Stalin imported large numbers of Russians and other Soviet citizens—many with no ability to speak Ukrainian and with few ties to the region—to help repopulate the east."

Volkodav, I see you know your history. It is a myth of the west that the USSR was Russian, the revolution had many of it's leaders and few were Russian. Stalin's leadership had few if any Russians, Molotov was kept only because Stalin needed to show he at least had one Russian. The only popular Russian communist under Stalin was killed by Stalin for being a Russian and being popular with the St. Petersburg people. That was Kirov. NKVD Terror was not run by Russians. We know who the communists were, by name and nationality, they sought to destroy Russians.

Ukraine has every reason to not trust Russia, but they will get what they deserve if they chosse to side with the globalist West to try to encircle and destroy Putin's Russia. West Ukraine should stay  away from being used for such purposes. Russia has no choice but to stop the Ukraine from allying with the US zionist globalists. They have no chopice. 200 is enough to provide security for the base in a more or less friendly environment.  If the Russians intend on taking any ground, you're talking Brigade or Division level numbers.

200 soldiers running 33% security, you're talking 66 guns defending the base.  Not very substantial.

So who exactly do they have to defend it from?

Let's try this again- they are landing in a place that has roots back to Russia over 300 years long. The only reason it isn't part of Russia today is becauswe of a major mistake by Khruschev.

Russians overwhelmingly feel it is part of Russia - as does the popluation of Crimea. They aren't going to freak about the troops; they will treat them as defenders to protect them from the euro whacks in Kiev.

The base provides employment for the population. They aren't going to protest keeping their jobs.

I'm sure you were a great NCO . . .

That's a good question.   Maybe they're beefing up security because they're planning something else (sanctions), could be just an element of their  CONOPS (concept of operations) to do something else.

The other possibility is that they've got an element of Spetznaz to go in and destabilize the US state department boys (CIA) inside a masking or diversionary operation (this).

They could also be trying to reinforce their hold on the base.  If the Russians value the base so much, they may have decided to reinforce it with fresh infantry regardless of the possibility it would be overrun.  They probably didn't expect Ukraine to destabilize so quickly, so maybe they're just hedging their bets.  I have no idea.  It would make sense if they were expecting to do anything or anything to happen you'd want troops staged in a FOB (forward operating base) to send out by helo or armor (pipeline defense).

It would be interesting to know what is going on behind the scenes of mother Russia, if they're beginning to mobilize other units, e.g. armor, scouts, air cav, logistics, etc.

They are perhaps reinforcing security in order to bring in more forces.

Also, Russians should be using their intel to ID the spies/provacateurs and have Speznaz liquidate them along with plainclothes operatives.

No, we are still love in that fantasy of 'modern' warfare, devised by those a-holes at the Pentagon and elsewhere.  You can't fight wars and win them with numbers under a million.  It's military history, Putin is a dictator and theocratic thug.  He only trumped Obama the idiot with a warship standoff re: Syria. which was as a proper warfare standoff.  Obama folded.  200 troops is nothing, Ukraine is not a friendly environment for Russia read about their history.

Yes, it's possible for hundred of thousands of Russian soldiers to be mobilized in the weeks to come.  This would be an interesting play,  Vlad then checks Stalin's/Hitler's rulebook, decides to starve them off, then sends in thousands of Russians.  It worked last time.  But, then Obama and Europe step in an arm Ukrainian with everything they've got.  Then we would have a major conflict starting.

Do the bosses of the US/Anglo Empire really understand how dangerous this all is? Do they care?

Soon the Russian and US nuclear forces will be on full alert, if they aren't already. Nuclear weapons and electronic warfare technology have been evolved to strongly favor a first strike - by design - necessitating local control and fire-on-warning protocols.  The US has reclassified "small" battlefield nukes as conventional, removing the firebreak to escalation at the nuclear threshold.  We've been reading about the grave command and control problems in the US Strategic Forces and of a whole rash of c&c officers being fired.  The state of the Russian nuclear forces is not known, but we know that both countries are majorly afflicted by corruption.

Our "leaders", in creating and pushing this crisis, seem to have gravely misunderstood Putin, who must know how badly this can end for Russia yet shows no sign of backing down. They should go watch the Soviet-era movies on the Russian resistance to the Nazi invasion, movies that Putin and his whole generation were raised on, to better understand how they see it.

Then they should back the hell off.
