No it's pretty clear that almost nobody on this site has done their homework or they wouln't be asking such fucking stupid questions, comments. Not terrorists but morons.
Are you trying to pump and dump, I am confused.
You've done more to drive people away from BitCoin than all the other posters here combined.
People who are curious about BitCoin look at your behavior, your immaturity and your passive agressive snarkiness and conclude that BitCoin is a churlish fad that will never become practical.
If you would grow up, conduct yourself like a man, and state an honest, objective case for BitCoin you'd have a lot more people interested in it.
We all thank you, fonestar, for demonstrating to all of us here just how lacking in intellect and ethics the garden variety bitcoin cultist troll tends to be. Your arguments in support of your beloved bitcoin are so twisted, illogical, and removed from reality that they have exactly the opposite effect you intend. Not only that, your dementia provides a much needed, kind of therapeutic, comic relief to ZH readers. It's a win-win for those of us that have avoided falling down that rabbit hole you are so very lost in.
You are delusional. Many ZH'ers have scoffed at bitcoin because it is idiocy at it's finest. When the SHTF what will you do with your intangible internet based digital crap then? If unsure, just look at the photo of the 2 pathetic geeks with this article. They are so very stupid that they think that sitting there with their signs accomplishes something other than displaying their stupidity to the world. It's absolutely hysterical!!
First scenario: Dollar doesn't collapse. Bitcoin tries to compete with the dollar and gets crushed.
Second scenario: Dollar callapses. Nobody gives a shit about internet coins.
USD 4Eva
Your "SHTF" scenarios are a joke, which might be funny if it weren't for the fact they were coming from grown adults. If things got that bad, my guess is the posters here would be the first ones to go.
Must be nice to be so perfect.
Agreed. Let the dust settle from the MtGox crap and things will stabilize more than they were before. Already on the upswing. A few weeks when gox is forgotten we won't see the ZH story about a recovery. Only if it falls again...
I hear ya. I'm surprised there aren't more people like that on ZH. BTC makes a good discussion about how a monetary system works, which is what initially brought me to ZH in the first place.
I think people in general are sick and tired of ponzi's and fiat's... Just saying.
You are so full of kaka!! The MSM is plastered with bitcoin/mtgox headlines and the vast majority are negative.
"The funny thing is the mentally vacant posters here actually think Bitcoin is in trouble because they get their news about Bitcoin from Zerohedge. Go over to Reddit, BTC Talks, anywhere else and this isn't even news."
You mean if we go over to those echo-chambers where any negative comments about Bitcoin are heavily moderated you'll have trouble hearing about these recent events?! Shocking!
That is a dumb thing to say. Even seasoned bitcoiners used GOX, if only for the arb.
Serious question: If it happened to one exchange, can it happen to all exchanges?
Theoretically, yes. Businesses come and go. This actually shows the resiliance of Bitcoin to the world, an exchange goes dark and business carries on like usual.
https://btc-e.com/
Serious question: Where can I go collect my Bitcoins so that I may bury them in a secure location?
Use the [Withdraw] button.
https://www.bitaddress.org/ has a paper wallet feature which can be used for this purpose. It also supports encryption. I recommend you use the offline version with a Linux live CD such as TAILS, to be extra safe.
You could also explore other types of cold storage.
It happens to crypto exchanges all the time. Several more have failed very recently. You can read every day about crypto owners getting scammed by exchanges.
The difference here is that Mt.Gox is big enough to make the mainstream news.
This is just the kind of news that opens the door for do gooder elected fucktards to legislate ownership of crypto currency out of existence. I don't have a dog in this fight but I must admit that anything that fucks with their little human farm is fine by me. But then I have to ask why they have not intervened yet if it is such a threat? Which makes me wonder who is the main driver if they are letting it float? to what ends? If it is such a threat to their collection racket they would have been all over this lke white on rice, so fuck it, I'm tired of thnking about it.
Silver is trying to breakout agreed. Also my caption entry is "one bitcoin equals how much mana on which landscape?/?"

'will not work for btc'
Rumors are circulating that a fatal flaw in bitcoin has allowed as much as $300 million in bitcoins to be stolen over the past several years.
http://www.news24.com/Technology/News/Bitcoin-exchange-site-dissapears-after-theft-20140225
The entire system is so riddled with flaws and exploits that its going down in flames right in front of us.
It is very possible. The issue has existed for years. Estimated 744,408 BTC lost. See:
http://glcbitcoin.com/2014/02/25/mtgox-bitcoins-first-fractional-reserve...
clearing exploits, poss merchant side expoits and newer strategies to undermine; if major credit cards and/or banks were attacked like BTC...it's not just hackers and scammers subverting BTC...
No, it was MtGox's wallet (or sorry excuse for one). Bitcoin is fine. Just buy more Bitcoin.
You drink the Bitcoin Jim Jones Kool Aid.
I'll stick to reality.
fonestar's PAL was actually born a few days before the Kool Aid.
Fonestar's pal Elmo?
Really?
Reality would dictate that if this issue was widespread, MtGox wouldn't be the only exchange now in serious trouble.
You don't need to underscore just how deluded some bitcoin fans are, even when reality hits them in the face over and over.
So what is the reality? Bitcoiners have a much higher IQ than gold stackers. That's a screaming fact by looking at the comments.
You've got terrible comprehension skills.
That "flaw" has not been fixed in the bitcoin protocol. It's still there, it's well documented and almost everyone could abuse it. Bitcoin would be dead within minutes.
But the truth is, an attack possibility, which can be exploited only via social engeneering, known for years and even well documented on a website owned by Karpeles, was used as an excuse for losing 750k coins over many years without noticing? Come on, this fish stinks from its head.
They are going to have to put digital ridges on them sumbitches....

Mt Gox blue plate special.
We will gladly pay you Tuesday, for a hamburger, today.
Anyone who bought the dip this morning is up 20% in a few hours.
I'm still looking at close to 200% returns so far at current prices.
"Anyone who bought the dip this morning is up 20% in a few hours."
And anyone who bought at ANY time during the previous 94 days is STILL underwater and by as much as 58%. BUY BUY BUY!
Oh, you're a trader not a holder, so you'r allowed to cherrypick timeframes? Tell that to the folks who the pumpers want to sell the concept to. You know, those other 7,999,900,000 people. "Get your wages denominated in Btc and watch your buying power plummet!" Catchy slogan, but it won't play in Peoria. In Fonestar's mom's basement? Maybe.
OK, but can you actually cash out? Have you tried? Only the complete and utter greater fools would be buying at this point.
I can cash out in minutes. Gox is hardly the only exchange.
Time will tell if buying now is foolish or not. I believe this is a buy-in opportunity on the same level as the $1,900 to $1,250 takedown on AU.
Operation "load the truck at $480" successful, so far... Last: $540
...and Operation "unload the truck" closed at $570 for $0.00 lost and 1 BTC gained.
An observation on the photo in the article. Dip on the left is wearing Google Glass (I guess?), Dip on the right has an Apple and a fancy looking camera. They probably are not hurting that much...
Maybe, maybe not.
I have plenty of friends who all have the latest tech gear but almost zero disposable income otherwise.
and you're probably the last friend who's giving them a loan to keep buying i-shit
I was wondering why the guy on the left had a cable running from his glasses...assuming that's a charging/data cable?
+1 for having the balls to venture down that virtual mineshaft....
It has nothing to do with gold; and you should be ashamed of yourself; don't you know how to think straight?
I almost bought one at 750 and I said no. Thanks for taking one for the team. Good fortune will find you. I'm sure there are folks who lost much more.
Good one WB7!

Well, that expalins the deafening silence surrounding the whole ultracoin absurdity. Pretty embarassing I guess.
oh that's good !!!
There goes the Mt.Gox mobile making their get away!
Poor do chen._u my fav u know. And fonestar i think most here are having fun with mt.Gox not being affected lol. I teased max keiser about trading card type easter eggs in each bitcoin as an inducement to the masses unaware at the time of the origin of mt.Gox. But now i grew abit.Lol
I'm not fonestar, he is.

Hey DoChen I respect you Brother. You are a voice of reason in this insane world but please, please, please do not start referring to yourself in the third person. It appears the habits of some here cost you a few bux don't start talking like them (well actually one in particular) as well.
I get it. Phrasing your post that way was quite clever just don't start doing it in earnest. And no I didn't red you. I am quite shocked at the number who did though. But BTFBCD I don't think so.
How am I suppose to get laid

fonestar has already told you he has never traded on MtGox or even used them.

Yeah science, bitch!
A lot of people don't understand the main pillar of freedom; responsibility.
If you want freedom with your money, you need be responsible for it. If you have gold bullion and store it in the front seat of an unlocked car and it gets stolen does that mean something is wrong with gold?
What happened with Mt.Gox is exactly what happens in a free market. You had a lot of people who did not do their due diligence and gave an entity their money that they shouldn't have. You should never store your bitcoin on ANY exchange. You buy it and put it into cold storage. In a free market the bad apples get pushed away...Mt. Gox is a bad apple and they are gone. A BETTER system will replace Mt. Gox and in fact there are companies like Second Market who are coming out with a US based exchange shortly.
If people want FREEDOM with their money they need to accept RESPONSIBILITY for their money and actions.
So for all the bitcoin bashing liberty loving posters on ZH...you can go fuck yourself. No one in this market got a tax payer funded bailout and as a result a more robust ecosystem will move forward. The rot has been swept away just like it should have been.
"Capitalism without bankruptcy is like Christianity without hell"
Thanks for the great comment.
Everything you said applies not just to money, but various aspects of life in general. The issue today is no one accepts responsibility for their actions and poor decisions, and even worse expects others to make up for any preceived differences from what they have to what they think they deserve. From what I've read America used to have an attitude of pulling oneself up through hard work and determination, but sadly I see little of that in my generation.
"Capitalism without bankruptcy is like Christianity without hell".
Bad analogy. Bankruptcy is foregiveness. Economic systems WITHOUT bankruptcy are like hell. Debtor prisons are the alternative to bankruptcy.
Still, your main point about responsibility is valid. Deposit insurance and bailouts are moral hazards that lead to bank failures. (Bank owners are not lending their own money, and depositors do not subject banks to sufficient scrutiny).
"Bad analogy. Bankruptcy is foregiveness. Economic systems WITHOUT bankruptcy are like hell."
...capitalism IS an economic system
So good analogy?

I don't get this Bitcoin shit. Yeah it may seem like a good alternative but that governement kill switch has to make you feel uneasy. Atleast with gold, silver, ammo, and seeds, you can defend it with honor. I don't think you will like the feeling of willing to die for a 4 GB flash drive with the possibility of a whole bunch of 000000000000's.
What government has a kill switch on the entire global internet?
The US is pretty close. They have control over the root DNS servers, so they could shut down name resolution. It also seems likely to me that those NSA "taps" aren't one-way and likely have remote management capability, meaning they could at a minimum fracture the internet into dozens of regional subnets with a few commands.
Bitcoin P2P network uses IP addresses. Go ahead and take away all the DNS servers. The decentralized Bitcoin computer will keep on processing uninterupted on top of a network designed to withstand a nuclear winter.
wow, simply wow
Yeah, that will work past DNS, but it won't work if anyone pops the higher-level BGP routers off.
There are plenty of instances where that's happened as well, and you end up with a very broken internet. Kill the DNS and 99% of the people won't be able to get anything to work, and the 1% will get taken out with the router blocks.
Perfect example would be ZH. Many of us here keep the ZH IP address around in case there is a DNS-level attack (last time I checked it didn't work due to an IP to hostname redirect on the ZH side, though that can be fixed with a hosts file entry). The approach would be useless if the BGP routers were taken out on the US or Swiss side.
The internet as it exists today is nothing like the IP packet goes anywhere it wants, damage resistant network it started as. If it were Netflix wouldn't have needed to dump cash on broadband ISPs to keep them from fucking with their packets.
There is really only 1 government. You should know what happens when countries think they are independent of the system. When the men behind curtains say turn it off, its going to be lights out online. These fucks will do anything to keep their scams going at all costs. Do not underestimate the enemy. Bitcoin is sticking around because it is no threat. it will never be allowed to be a currency unless the central banks of the world are behind bitcoin.
Keep using dollars.
I know those two guys wish they could ha ha
All governments have a kill switch, even in the third world...
Just wait until my beanie babies are the last remaining and accepted store of value.
Then we shall see who laughs last ha, ha, ha, haaaaaaaa
+>+[<->] : Slinging Brainfuck @ MtGox
What bollocks. The guy on the right was on the news crying because he had 211 bitcoins.
'They were worth $211,000 and they've all gone'
He looks geeky enough to have got them for cents on the dollar.
So how much is he actually down? Probably answer fuck all.
Get A Life ... or better yet get some phyzz.
nothing wrong with bitcoin.. its just flush with scammers like any hot market. How's that paper gold market doing with the price of your phyzz?
its a lot easier to avoid scammers than the gov/banker cronies
Allowing me to buy at a price I prefer. :)
Caption: I lost $211,000 in BTC @ Mt. Gox and couldn't come up with a better sign...
or..."Mt. Gox took over 211,000 in bitcoin from me and all I got was this lousy sign"
Serves the google glass wearing idiot right. Cry me a fucking river assclown.
Let's all pitch in and get them a Japanese Love-bot as I am sure they are both still virgins and a real woman would make them download in their shorts.

Made me laugh out loud...
DaddyO
Dad told me I'd end up in the gutter.
Exchanges will come and go. My bitcoin, bought on MtGox and immediately transferred my own wallet, is still worth fifty times what I paid. I sold a few on bitstamp.net yesterday to pay my property tax.
Counterparty risk motherfuckers. Store it yourself, and btc is more defensible than gold.
It is interesting that those guys are not sitting down... does it hurt?
Long Flooz and Bitcoin. Oh and Amazon Coins
Bitcoin and other digital currencies are the vinyl blow up dolls of the world of women.
Take away all the hot air and lube, and you got nothing.
Stick to physical. Pussy, Silver and Gold.
Good logic except that argument was used at 1900 and 49 bucks. As your heads were rolled down the stairs to 1180 and 18 bucks - you disappeared. Only to return here at the perceived bottom to maximize the next pump phase.
hopefully you're right this time..
The big question is
Will you have the balls or the forsight to sell at the next event horizon...
I doubt it.
"Stick to physical. Pussy, Silver and Gold."
And dollars. Because I don't think you used your pussy, silver or gold to buy your last meal.
If you don't have it in your hand it ain't yours.

The moral of this story is simple
Beware of geeks with an idea.
geeks are really fucking stupid..
Yeah those same stupid geeks that built the first home computers computers , the internet , design apps and bitcoin. Without them how would you write such a message ? I call Hypocrite.
People didnt stop using USD after Lehman, MF Global....
Correct. The Fed has the ability to PRINT to cover any losses.
BTC exchanges can do sweet fuck all. But thanks for playing.
reminds me of gold drones at 1900 and 49 dollar silver
more like Germany waiting for their gold
If "B of A" was on those signs, and they were camped outside a branch, the stormtroopers would have beaten and hauled them away a long time ago.
I quess Mt. Gox never hired lobbyists.
The handful protesters actually were dispersed by Japanese police after a few days upon complaints by the locals.

Kirk's indignant blog-du-jour: I continue to be amazed at how well hypocrisy thrives not just in the fiat economy, but on a libertarian website like ZH also. Specifically...
1. Mt. Gox is just an Unregulated Free-Market exchange. In this case, it happens to be (have been?) one of several exchanges for a decentralized, free-market virtual asset named Bitcoin.
2. For all the sheep-like bleating, bitching, complaining, moaning and whining about how fucking Regulated, Centralized, Manipulated the large markets are, you'd fuckin' think that these libertarians/Libertarians would simply acknowledge that "this is what happens in a libertarian economy -- where it takes some time for the Market to ID and cleanse incompetent and/or crooked players". But, hell no!
3. It turns out that there are tons of phonies, fair-weather, pseudo-libertarian assholes out there -- who just LOVE to fucking pile on anything that makes their otherwise shitty and useless lives less so.
4. Having said this, there are no doubt a bunch of Gov.Trolls here, posing as being "anti-bitcoin" for all sorts of bullshit reasons -- just so they blend in with the Mountain.Trolls.
May the REAL libertarians please stand up and be counted. -Kirk out.
