Ukraine Acting President Says Russia Has Invaded Ukraine, As 2000 Russian Troops, Military Jets Arrive

Tyler Durden's picture

Here we go:

  • UKRAINE ACTING PRESIDENT TURCHYNOV STARTS BRIEFING
  • UKRAINE LEADER SAYS RUSSIA STARTS AGGRESSION AGAINST COUNTRY
  • UKRAINE SAYS RUSSIA INVADED UKRAINE UNDER GUISE OF EXERCISE
  • UKRAINE LEADER SAYS RUSSIA TRYING TO PROVOKE CONFLICT
  • UKRAINE LEADER SAYS RUSSIA SEEKING TO ANNEX CRIMEA
  • UKRAINE'S TURCHYNOV SAYS WILL DEFEND ITS INDEPENDENCE
  • UKRAINE ACTING PRESIDENT ACCUSES RUSSIA OF WORKING ON A SCENARIO LIKE BEFORE WAR WITH GEORGIA

From AFP:

Russia has sent "several hundred" troops into Ukraine's Crimea region, US defense officials said Friday, after Kiev called on Moscow to withdraw its forces from the peninsula.

"It looks like they’ve moved several hundred troops there (into Crimea)," a senior defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

The comments marked the first confirmation from President Barack Obama's administration that Russia had launched an incursion into Crimea.

The Russians had not given the US government advance notice of the action or explained its intentions since the operation was launched, officials said.

But Pentagon officials stressed Washington was focused on diplomacy, and there was no serious consideration being given to any US military action.

"It is now in the realm of diplomacy," said a second defense official, who asked not to be named.

Officials also said they were not aware of any request from Ukraine for military assistance.

More from Interpretermag.com:

“Under the guise of military exercises, Russia has brought troops into the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. And not only have they seized the parliament of the Crimea, the Council of Ministers of the Crimea, they are trying to take civilian buildings under control, communications, and trying to block places where Ukrainian soldiers are based,” he said in an appeal to the nation.

“They are provoking us to military conflict. According to information from our intelligence, they are working out scenarios that are completely analogous to Abkhazia, when after provoking a conflict, they began annexation of territory,” the acting president emphasized.

At the same time, Ukraine Pravda is reporting that Russian military planes are now landing in the Crimea.

Russian airplanes are landing in Crimea from the direction of Russia, and a column of APCs is heading from the east toward Simferopol.

There are reports of at least 5 large IL-76 planes landing in the district of the military airfield in the town of Gvardeyskoye.

Various sources are reporting that a column of 10 Russian APCs is heading from Sevastopol toward Simfereopol.

Interfax Ukraine reports that all air traffic is halted at the Belbek Airport in Sevastopol due to the seizure of the landing strip by unknown persons.

“There are about 400 people now in the Belbek airport. They have occpuied the landing strip and any movement of planes is stopped,” said a source.

And another video of the Russian APCs: considering the number of journalists standing by, it is as if they are on parade:

Finally. AFP reports:

  • 2,000 RUSSIAN SOLDIERS LAND IN CRIMEA IN ARMED INVASION, KIEV OFFICIAL SAYS -- AFP

And more airplanes:

Some are using makeshift barricades and checkpoints to defend themselves: via Kyiv Post:

Is it starting?

Kerry would be smart to get Nuland out of the State Dept. now before there is a backlash against Neocons in Wash. His wife with experience at the UN and accomplished linguist would be a huge improvement. Her late previous husband Sen Heinz was a gentleman compared to the likes of McCain

Yes and No.   Its like the next step in the evolution/devolution depending how your read it.

Not that I support or agree with these comments...they are like ground facts, or facts of life in the Ukraine.

1. The Spice must flow (fuel for Europe, 25% food for Russia from Ukraine).

2. Ukraine has $80B debt and desperately needs a sugar daddy whiile they reset or get bailed out.

3. Europe and US will let Russia be the sugar daddy while the Ukraine is bankrupt and gets their reset (bankrupt) or bailout (finance without reset).

4. The previous Ukraine leader will be reinstated (he is Russia's pick).

5. There never was a strong or serious democracy because of all the various factions and economic interests in the historically contested region.

Everyone will survive another day, and maybe democracy can gain a foothold later.

There will be no war, no fighting, no thing to note, except Ukraine may become another officially recognized Russian government-state.

China may run similar moves in the South China Sea.    There will be less need for a strong omnipresent US Navy.   It will be worse for the afflicted countries.

Wow, overthrowing the elected Ukrainian government (with elections scheduled for early next year) by force of arms and giving money and possibly weapons to neo-Nazi West Ukrainian crazies may not have been such a good idea?

US (Nuland), the French, Germans and Poles have really f*ucked up what was a stable Europe. Fools.

Exactly! The amatuers in the White House thought they were going to stir up shit on Putins doorstep and deliver the Ukraine unto Wall Street.

What they did was divide the country and provide Putin with the perfect excuse to annex the Crimea.

Sheer fucking genius I tell ya - sheer fucking genius. Once again, Obama shows that he has no fucking clue what he's doing. Putin is slapping his bitch ass around.

Cui Bono? Russia. Why do we still suspect the EU/US to have funded West-Ukrainian crazy "Neonazis" to overthrow Yanu? Last I heard, Yanu is safe and sound in Russia. Again, there is everything to gain for Russia, not a hell of a lot to lose for the EU/US. lets bring in some history here

do you know who Peter the Great was ? many will say he was the most prominent leader in Russian history because he created russian naval fleets and opened up to Russia both Baltic and Black Seas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_campaigns_%281695%E2%80%9396%29

Now knowing all that do you think russians will leave Crimea to NATO? They will die for it without hesitation.

Putin is from St. Petersburg city - the city that Peter the Great has built as a window to the Baltic Sea for Russia, the city that has not fallen to the Nazis during WW2

The other place as important as St.Petersburg is Crimea - a window to the Black Sea for Russia

This is no brainer to see that the WW3 is just around the corner

Just trying to be logical here but... wouldnt you think it would be better for Crimea to join Russia? They dont have any problem with it there and the Ukrainian acting president isnt currently legitimate legally so... I dont see what all the hubub is about. The Crimeans are ethnically Russian and they were part of the Soviet Union up until twenty years ago so it isnt like this is a new scenario to them. Also, if I'm not mistaken, arent a majority of the protesters in Kiev pretty heavy into neo-nazism? I wouldnt want any part of that either. No wonder the Crimeans are welcoming the Russians with open arms.

The last time I checked, the US has 200 W78's and 350 W87's RV's, each about 300kt yield.  Scratch off the 500 largest Rissian cities, and ask the Russians if they call that destruction.  You can make roughly the same argument for Russia of the US.

ran across this interesting bit on RT-

Russia’s Consulate General in Simferopol, Crimea, will start issuing Russian passports for officers of Ukraine’s recently disbanded Berkut special security force, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow says.

The Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Simferopol was instructed to promptly take all necessary measures to start issuing Russian passports to troops of the Berkut unit,” the ministry said in a message on its Facebook page.

anyways, Moscow has made it's play and they say Crimea is theirs now, as expected.

the UN is powerless to do anything no matter how many "extraordinary sessions"  they might hold in the hours, days and weeks to come. the only response that matters now is NATO's, will the West go to war over Crimea?

I guess we are about to find out just how psychotic our circus freak show "leaders" in DC really are...

Good point. For several years, Russia has issued Russian passports to any Ukrainians wanting one. Naturally most are in the east and ethnic Russians. This is a great idea, as it gives the right to protect under international law to Russia. Crimea would be smart to issue anyone wanting one a valid Russian passport. That is what i would do, were I Russian government.

To be honest, I do not know the current situation as regards Crimea. I find that RT is covering some aspects of the story in Crimea, but has said little about Russian moves into Crimea. I would not be surprised if Russian troops are entering right now. I saw the helicopter video a few posts back, these were gunships, they pack a punch, they are what you bring to a shooting war. I am certain that Putin and Russia will not let NATO take Crimea. That much I feel 100% sure of, even if shooting is required to make their point. In history of the last few hundred years, and that IS what counts, Crimea has been Russian and real part of Russia. We all know a Ukrainian cummunist leader of the USSR gave Crimea to HIS republic as a gift. That gift of one Ukrainian to another is now about to be revoked. This is no business of the EU or USA. They have conquered half the world in the last decade. Now they want Crimea too?

My guess is Ukrainian Russian forces, i.e. Ukrainians of Russian descent, are activated. The pics we saw earlier - pretty sure, although granted certainly not positive, weren't Spetzies...  and why not at this stage rely on Ukrainian proxies?

They may be in Crimea beyond the base, but that isn't clear yet.

McCain's admiral pa and admiral grandpa were also stooges for the NWO.  When the USS Liberty was being attacked - LBJ told Admiral McCain to recall USN F-4 fighter bombers from protecting the USS Liberty during the attack.

Admiral McCain then steamed US Navy ships slowly to assist the Liberty.  The Russian navy arrived first and offered first aid and help but were turned away by the  Liberty.

His whole family have been sell outs.

It is all farce...

The deal was made between US, EU and Russia long before, that Russia will give up puppet Yanukovich and will use the "overthrough" as pretence to annex Crimea back under Russian Federation.

Crimea was gifted to Ukraine by former communist leader, who had no doubt USSR will be forever.

The deal with new Ukranian goverment will be, continuation of Russian money and business flowing, but Crimea will be the price to pay.

On the news last night (CTV) they ended the story with 'Yanukovych has emerged in Moscow like a Russian submarine.' You can't make this shit up, they know that Russia is keeping Crimea and war is the game.

CTV is Bell's puppet reporting whatever it is being fed, like any other MSM. There will be no war, in today's world everything is planned well ahead and the new Ukranian government was well aware of the arrangement.

CTV and other MSM will keep it looks like escalations here and there, but at the end the game plan was already written (even for what to feed MSM each day) and everything will go according to it. They can even "farce the war" for few days to save Ukranian face, so would not surrender like Paris. (ooops, sorry my French friends)

On CTV legitimacy, I strongly believe Lloyd Robertson left the station upon Bell's takeover, cause he has never expressed his personal opinion on the facts he was reporting and would not agree to do otherwise.

No it means "checkmate dude"! The US have become completely powerless. They create virtual realities, like ready-for-TV "revolutions" while the Soviets play for real. You piss them off with with a bunch geeky lackeys, the Russians send troops. REAL troops. Virtual/TV news reality vs good old display of power, no need to say who's goona win.

How can Russia invade Crimea, when Crimea is Russian. It is a fiction that Crimea is Ukrainan. As long as Kiev left Crimea alone, Russia was happy to leave it administered from Kiev. Well, no election took place in Kiev, it was an armed revolution by a select group of west Ukrainans being paid by the EU to revolt. Each rioter got 30 Euro a day. Now EU says to Russia, do not involve yourself in idependent Ukraine. Ha! Ha! That is a joke, right? Crimea has announced a vote in May on independence. What is wrong with that, Russia must guard that place until the vote, then the people decide, not the revolutionary government in Kiev, which has not gotten one vote in an election, it was a gunfire election. Care to dispute that NSA trolls?

The revolt was paid and sponsored by Putin to annex Crimea. This was well thought plan when Putin helped to get Yanukovich elected, knowing he was stupid enough and will not hold power for long as greedy as he was. Revolt was in cards to give Russia a chance to annex Crimea back.

As a next step in geopolitics, Turks should plan ahead, as Crimea was annexed from them by Russia :)

raping was also metaphorical. during soviet period the policy was to dissolve the population via (forced) immigration of russians into annexed soviet states. maybe not the exact case with crimea, but for example some baltic state still have 90% of ethnic russian population(with russian federation passports) in some of their eastern cities. soon they could also start to demand a referendum or a liberation from the eu?
