As Russian Troops In The Ukraine Hit 16,000, US Department Of Defense Orders Them To Go Home

Tyler Durden's picture

While it has gotten to the point where the propaganda is so bad on both sides of the Ukraine crisis, that any numbers thrown about are ridiculous, made up gibberish more fabricated than anything the Chinese Department of Truth or US Bureau of Labor can possibly goalseek, it is worth pointing out that according to AP, Ukraine's ambassador to the UN said 16,000 Russian troops are now deployed in the Ukraine. This was "revealed" at the third emergency Security Council session meeting in the last four days, shortly after Ukraine's fugitive president requested Russian soldiers in the strategic Crimea region "to establish legitimacy, peace, law and order," Russia's U.N. ambassador said Monday, contradicting the president's own comments last week.

However, while Russian hypocrisy is to be expected - after all they are the "Evil Empire" to quote a famous actor and president - it is the humor from the self-appointed moral watchdog of all the world's evils, the US, that was the highlight of today's UN session:

U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power dismissed Moscow's contention that it intervened militarily in Crimea to protect the human rights of Russian civilians there as "baseless," insisting there is no evidence of any threats against ethnic Russians in Ukraine.

"One might think that Moscow has just become the rapid response arm of the High Commissioner for Human Rights," she told the council. "Russian military action is not a human rights protection mission."

Speaking of high commissioners for human rights, at least Russia never invaded a country using made up WMDs as pretext, and did not almost launch World War III to satisfy a nat gas-rich ally over a fabricated YouTube clip. Oh, and all that "innocent civilian casualty" drone stuff too.

So what does the world's most irrelevant organization do? They send in monitors:

  • OSCE MONITORS TO BE DEPLOYED TO CRIMEA TONIGHT, POWER SAYS
  • POWER CALLS ON RUSSIA TO ENSURE OSCE NOT BLOCKED IN CRIMEA
  • CHURKIN SAYS RUSSIA SUPPORTS UN OFFICIAL'S VISIT TO UKRAINE
  • CHURKIN DECLINES TO COMMENT IF RUSSIA SUPPORTS OSCE MISSION

Well, monitors did miracles during the Yugoslav war, maybe they will "work" this time too.

But the piece de resistance, regardless if the real number of Russian troops in the Ukraine is 1,000 or 100,000, was the following:

  • DOD CALLS ON RUSSIAN FORCES IN CRIMEA TO RETURN TO THEIR BASES

Wait, so the US Department of Defense, that of the United States if it was somehow unclear, suddenly has authority to control the troops... of Russia?

One wonders: did the US Department of Education tell Gazprom to maintain gas supplies to Germany no matter how many CIA agents are operating in Kiev?

Or did ACORN tell whoever is the current pre-countercoup Ukraine president to hike minimum wages?

Or maybe the Department of Justice is quietly trying to collect its Fedex guns sent "erroneously" to Ukraine mercenaries, having confused them with Mexican drug lords?

Whatever the confusion, we are confident that following this latest "escalation" in the US response narrative, that Russia will promptly CTRL-Z everything it has done in the Ukraine in the past two weeks, and say it was only kidding.

* * *

Tangentially, while it has been made abundantly clear just how terrified Russia is of NATO, of Europe and of the US, for an indication of what China thinks of the latter, the WSJ reports the following:

The departing U.S. ambassador to China, Gary Locke inspired mixed reactions during his two-and-a-half-year tenure. Though his unpretentious manner was widely praised, as the first American of Chinese descent to hold the job, criticism of him had a special bite... The state-run China News Service... published a derisive editorial late last week (in Chinese) that described Mr. Locke as “a banana, with yellow skin and a white heart.”

Because when America respects itself and its symbolic headpiece, the president, so very much how can the rest of the world not follow?

The Rise of the Quasi-Fascists
The Dark Side of the Ukraine Revolt
by CONN HALLINAN
“The April 6 rally in Cherskasy, a city 100 miles southeast of Kiev, turned violent after six men took off their jackets to reveal T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Beat the Kikes” and “Svoboda,” the name of the Ukrainian ultranationalist movement and the Ukrainian word for “freedom.”

–Jewish Telegraphic Agency, April 12, 2013

While most of the Western media describes the current crisis in the Ukraine as a confrontation between authoritarianism and democracy, many of the shock troops who have manned barricades in Kiev and the western city of Lviv these past months represent a dark page in the country’s history and have little interest in either democracy or the liberalism of Western Europe and the United States.

“You’d never know from most of the reporting that far-right nationalists and fascists have been at the heart of the protests and attacks on government buildings,” reports Seumas Milne of the British Guardian. The most prominent of the groups has been the ultra-rightwing Svoboda or “Freedom” Party.

And that even the demand for integration with Western Europe appears to be more a tactic than a strategy: “The participation of Ukrainian nationalism and Svoboda in the process of EU [European Union] integration, “ admits Svoboda political council member Yury Noyevy, “is a means to break our ties with Russia.”

And lest one think that Svoboda, and parties even further to the right, will strike their tents and disappear, Ukrainian News reported Feb. 26 that Svoboda Party members have temporarily been appointed to the posts of Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Supplies, and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources.

You know, its all funny etc.

May be some of you wants Putin borrow one of his eggs to Obama, and there will be new and powerful America... I want only one: let them both LEAVE UKRAINE ALONE!!!

Yesterday I was spent my evening listening to ukraininan radio stations through Internet, then almost crying.

People in Ukraine discuss how to make theirs life better, how to make anti-corruption laws working, how to make the oligarchs refund their money back into the country. They still believe that they won at Maidan

Meanwhile Yatseniuk sells their souls and lives to IMF (not his, his is already sold), Turchinov appointing governors (i.e. oligarchs) in most "fat" regions, and the bill to abolish the punishment of neo-Nazi propaganda is still in Rada.

In the East, the situation is different: subsidized and unprofitable, but still alive miners, along with yet profitable, but also still alive metallurgists stormed regional councils, demanding autonomy or self-determination (while all plants are dominated by a few people who are in no way want to switch to Russian jurisdiction - they know that for them it will be primarily the loss of power and property).

In Ukrainian history was the period called "the Ruin" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ruin_(Ukrainian_history) - it here again.

I'm crying on Ukraine.

@ Hohlick,

It gives even more urgencies for Ukrainian to rejoin with the Mother Russia, it has been proven they are unable to take care themselves, they need some competent strong hand to reorganize and revitalize their lives and economy... they need the nurture from the Mother Russia.

Otherwise just watch out the NAZI thugs destroy the people there while the self-installed puppet govt sell out the Ukrainian people to the BANKSTERS AND J OLIGARCHS.

In today's context of EURASIA or CAUCASUS, a fully independent Ukrainian is just illusion, it's unreal, UNREALISTIC. The banksters through its ZATO bogeymen will always attempt to hijack the people's interest there from time to time...

Yes, i have to agree.

But, there still no such strong hand in Ukraine, even no compromissed persone. Riun is coming to my homeland.

All we can is just look and all we have is just a hope. I do believe that ukrainians could solve some of the problems themselves. But there are too much "help" from outside the borders. Now Ukraine is just torn to pieces in different directions

Of course, Putin's titanium eggs becoming a legend just now, but from here and now I can't see the good end.

That is a good one.

The first article is just lingo that gives no conclusion. Goes as far as claiming that nazis patroll Kiev armed with bats when they have superior weaponry like AKs when walking around.

The second article speaks of miscalculations.

The 'american' ganglord (the US) wished to access to his trusted lieutnants'(UK, Germany, France) demand: delegation of more power.
The 'american' lieutnants to the ganglord were charged in preparing the case in Ukraine. They bottled it.
This is where the miscalculation lies. Backing off? Yes but to state that the US did not fail, Europe did.

Putin ends army exercise, Russian markets rally despite Ukraine tension

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/04/us-ukraine-crisis-idUSBREA1Q1E...

(Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin ordered troops involved in a military exercise in western Russia back to base on Tuesday in an announcement that appeared intended to ease East-West tension over fears of war in Ukraine.

Russian financial markets rebounded after sharp falls on Monday, and the euro and dollar rose in Japan, though Moscow's forces remained in control of Ukraine's Crimea region, seized bloodlessly after Russian ally Viktor Yanukovich was ousted as Ukrainian president last month...

...Both sides have avoided bloodshed, but the market turmoil on Monday highlighted damage the crisis could wreak on Russia's vulnerable economy, making it harder to balance the budget and potentially undermining business and public support for Putin.

Ukraine called up reservists on Sunday after Putin's action provoked what British Foreign Secretary William Hague called "the biggest crisis in Europe in the twenty-first century".

NATO allies will hold emergency talks on the crisis on Tuesday, for the second time in three days, following a request from Poland, a neighbor of Ukraine.

EU foreign ministers held out the threat of sanctions against Russia if Moscow fails to withdraw its troops from Ukraine, while offering to mediate between the two, alongside other international bodies.

EU leaders will hold an emergency summit on Thursday.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, or OSCE, said it was trying to convene an international contact group to help defuse the crisis after Germany said Chancellor Angela Merkel had persuaded Putin to accept such an initiative.

Switzerland, which chairs the pan-European security body, said the group could discuss sending observers to Ukraine to monitor the rights of national minorities.

"There will be very, very broad consensus for that monitoring mission. We call on Russia to join that consensus, make the right choice and pull back its forces," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland told OSCE envoys in Vienna.

Classical move by 'americans' here. They have been hijacking humanity since 1776, July, 4th so they speak of behalf of humanity to determine what a human rights infringement is.

Just like owning slaves was no human rights infringement (since negroes were no human beings and therefore had no human rights), nazis chasing around russians, beating them down hard enough to require medical care in a hospital is no infringement on human rights. Why? Because 'americans' say so.

That is the miracle of 'americanism'. This is how it works.

The miscalculated move is that nazis in Ukraine are not modernized, americanized nazis. They are old school nazis who dont deny to be nazis. They act as nazis and they depict themselves as nazis. Very different kind from the 'americanized' nazis who are nazis by acts but keep denying they are nazis.

That is the big miscalculation. No closet nazis in Ukraine. Not learned that lesson from 'americans' yet.

And they posted videos, pictures on themselves beating down russians, exhibiting their captives as a trophy. Good old nazi style, sincere and straightforward.

Those required more 'american' education because even they even forced the free press to report the pics, the vids.

The free press did it the 'american' way, no problem about that, that is 30 seconds dedicated to that, the 23 hours 30 seconds remaining dedicated to paint the russians as the bullies, including denying involvement of nazis in Ukraine.

Not enough though, the evidences are here. Given by the Ukrainian nazis themselves. Time to send them to an 'american' re education camp so they can learn the necessary duplicity 'americans' require from them.
